Eva Pusc
Eva M. Pusc, age 95, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died January 30, 1999, at her home in Little Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN, on February 2. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Eva was born April 15, 1903, in Ripley Township to the late Adam and Lillie (Dreher) Kohl. She grew up and attended School District 108 in Ripley Township through the eighth grade. Her mother passed away when she was 15, leaving Eva to take care of her younger sisters and brothers until the age of 19. Eva moved to Minneapolis, MN, and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for a few years. She was united in marriage to Herman D. Pusc on November 17, 1926, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN. The couple farmed in Fort Ripley Township. Herman passed away January 7, 1980. Eva moved to Little Falls where she resided until her death. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie. She enjoyed crocheting, braiding rugs, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Rakow and husband Dale of Pierz, MN; brother, Harry Kohl and wife Dorothy of Fort Ripley, MN; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herman January 7, 1980; son, Dalles Pusc December 11, 1981; brothers, Emil, Clifford, Clarence, Gervis and Edward Kohl; sisters, Ella Tomberlin, Helen Schlicting, Germaine Rausch; infant brother Adam Kohl and infant sisters, Ida and Rose Kohl.

Pallbearers were Neil Rakow, Kevin Rakow, Corey Rakow, Chris Pusc, Larry Pusc, Leroy Pusc and Latha Rakow.

Evelyn Branson
Evelyn C. Branson, age 78, died at Edina Heritage Nursing Home on January 13, 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held January 16 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN, with Rev. Father Steven O’Gara officiating. Interment was at Lakewood Cemetery.

Evelyn was born December 1, 1920, in Lastrup, MN, to Bernard and Katherine (Ellering) Athmann. She went to Minneapolis at age 16 to do housework and waitressing. She married Oscar Branson May 1, 1945. He passed away November 28, 1982.

Survivors include her children, Eileen Bunn, Michael (Linda), David, Kenneth (Dawn), Carol and Warren Wehmes; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Irene Gaebel and Norbert Gaebel, both of Lastrup, Edward of Pierz, Bernard of Little Falls and Bernadine Loidolt of Pierz and Alice Poser of Milwaukee, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Irwin, Cel, Virgil, Victor and Alex and her sister, Marie Banach.

Casketbearers were Michael, David and Ken Branson, Warren and Chris Wehmas, John Bunn and Marvin Loidolt.

Loretta Heath
Loretta Heath, age 86, a recent resident of Plymouth, MN, and longtime resident of Little Falls, MN, died January 30, 1999, in Plymouth.

Private services were held February 3 with Father Harold Kost officiating.

Loretta was born August 28, 1912, to Joseph and Anna (Muehlbauer) Wegertseder in Little Falls. Loretta was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Little Falls. After her graduation from high school in 1929, she felt lucky to find employment with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where she worked for many years, both as a switchboard operator and service representative. She was a member of the Communication Workers of America, Telephone Pioneers and WWI Women’s Auxiliary. She loved quiet days on the North Shore of Lake Superior, listening to classical music on MPR in her beloved home, enjoying nature in her yard and surrounding countryside, and watching the Vikings.

Survivors include her daughter, Gretchen Heath of Plymouth; godson, Martin (Jack) Thommes of Ashland, OR, along with her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, Anna and Joseph; sisters, Anna, Helen and Isabel and brother, Joe Wegertseder.

Edith Spoo
Edith Mae Spoo, age 78, a resident of Litchfield, MN, died January 25, 1999, at her residence in Litchfield.

Funeral services were held January 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Reverend Anthony Bertram officiating. Interment was at Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.

Edith was born February 4, 1920, in Judith Gap, MT, to Weldon M. and Myrtle G. (Horkey) Yaple. She attended school at Medford, OR, but after the death of her parents when she was 15, she moved with her brother to Sequim, WA, where she graduated in 1939. Edith married Henry E. Spoo in Arcata, CA, on January 21, 1940. Together they lived in Arcata until 1942 when they moved to Estherville, IA. In 1957 they moved to Upsala, MN, where they lived until Henry retired. After retiring in 1981, they moved to Sauk Centre, MN, until 1996 when they moved to Litchfield where they lived at the present time. Edith was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, participating in the quilting and church circles, the Lutheran Women Missionary League and the church women’s Bible study.

Survivors include her husband, Henry; two daughters, Linda Spoo and Judy Spoo, both of Litchfield; one son, Gerald Spoo and wife Sherry of Elk River, MN; one grandson, Shawn of Elk River; two granddaughters, Tammy Spoo of St. Francis, MN, and Heather Spoo of Elk River; one brother, Glenn Yaple of Klamath Falls, OR; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and -nephews and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon and Myrtle Yaple; five brothers, Lawrence, Vern, Harold, James and Walter and one sister, Genevieve Wordal.

Norman Borg
Norman Borg, age 75, a resident of Little Falls, MN, passed away February 2, 1999, in McAllen, TX, while on vacation.

Mass of Christian Burial was held February 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Royalton, MN.

Norman was born on September 27, 1923, to Emil and Nora (Berry) Borg in Solana, MN. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Norman was united in marriage to Mary Ann Smieja on May 2, 1950 in Royalton. He was a telegrapher for the Soo Line Railroad for a number of years. Norman then became an operator for Soo Line Railroad and then a dispatcher. His first wife Mary Ann passed away on May 28, 1985. Norman was later united in marriage to Leona Burggraff on December 28, 1986 in Upsala, MN. They retired, making their winter home in Texas and returning for the summer to Little Falls. Norman is a past member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Leona Borg of Little Falls; son Michael Borg of Milwaukee, WI; daughter Karlene Olsen and husband Lynn of Woodbury, MN; sisters Marge Culpeper of Truth or Consequences, NM and Beatrice Borg of Apple Valley, MN; stepsons Butch Burggraff and wife Carolyn of Centerville, MN; Tom Burggraff and wife Janice of Clear Lake, MN; Elmer Burggraff and wife Denise of Richmond, MN; and Daniel Burggraff and wife Julie of Upsala, MN; stepdaughter Marlene Lange and husband Kenneth of Upsala; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and eight great step-children.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ann; parents; and brothers Henry, Victor, and Herbert.

Casket Bearers were Dean Lange, Shawn Burggraff, Douglas Zimmerman, Justin Olsen, Michael Andrews, and Roger Danielson.

Lawrence Otremba
Lawrence John Otremba, age 73, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died February 3, 1999, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Harold Kost and Father Kenneth Brenny concelebrating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Little Falls American Legion Post 46, Little Falls, VFW Post 1112, and the Forty & Eight.

Lawrence J. Otremba was born September 18, 1925, in Pierz, Morrison County, MN, to the late Joseph, Sr., and Marion (Lintner) Otremba. As a young boy his family moved to Little Falls, where he grew up, the eldest of 10 brothers and sisters. After his schooling Lawrence joined the United States Navy. He entered into active duty on December 19, 1943, and received an honorable discharge on April 18, 1946. During his service years, vessels and stations he served on were NTS, Farragut, Idaho, USS Doyen in the South Pacific, where his duties were in navigation and making ice cream for his fellow crew members and NAS, Minnea-polis, MN. He was united in marriage to Cecelia Denzen on June 10, 1947 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, MN. Follow-ing their marriage, Lawrence and Cecelia lived in Little Falls where he worked as a bookkeeper for the Morrison County Highway Department. That was the beginning of his life long work building roads, both as a foreman for C.L. Stodalka Company and then as a partner in Tri-City Paving, Inc., of Little Falls. Lawrence loved his work. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, Knights of Columbus, Little Falls American Legion Post 46, Little Falls VFW Post 1112 and the Forty & Eight.

Survivors include his wife, Cecelia; daughters, Barbara Madden and husband Michael of Maple Grove, MN, Kathleen Krupke of St. Cloud, MN, Joyce Beadling and husband Rich of Rochester, MN, Joan Dubbin and husband Dan of Little Falls; sons, Lawrence, Jr., of St. Cloud, Timothy and wife Sherrie of Little Falls; sisters, Rita Reis of Little Falls, Marcelline Paycer of Little Falls, JoAnn Kroll and husband Clarence of Richfield, MN; brothers, Clem of Verndale, MN, Marcellus and wife Barbara of Staples, MN, Romie & wife Kathy of Palm Springs, CA, Urban and wife, Carol of Little Falls, Joseph Jr. and wife Anita of Bowlus, MN and Allan of Little Falls; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Casketbearers were Chris and John Madden, Scott, Brad and Brian Krupke, Ben, Eric and Adam Beadling, Dan Dubbin, Michael and Matthew Otremba.

Violet Schneider
Violet Josephine Schneider, age 84, a resident of Flensburg, MN, died February 2, 1999, at her home in Flensburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg with the Rev. Raymond Donnay officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Violet was born December 17, 1914, in Wilton, MN, to the late Charles and Mary (Block) Maness. When Violet was a little girl, her mother died and she moved to St. Cloud, MN. At the age of seven years she was adopted by Cyril and Frances Zilkowski. She grew up and attended school in Flensburg. After her schooling, she lived and worked with her adoptive parents, the Zilkowskis. Violet was united in marriage to Stanley J. Schneider on April 25, 1934, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg. Following their marriage Stanley and Violet made their home in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, MN, near Swanville where they farmed. In 1975 the couple retired from farming and moved to the City of Flensburg. Stanley died February 25, 1991. Violet continued to live in Flensburg, residing there until her death. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Rosary Sodality and the Little Falls V.F.W. Auxiliary 1112. She enjoyed gardening, reading and embroidering.

Survivors include sons, Adrian and wife Mary of Little Falls, MN, Jerry of St. Paul, MN, Dennis of Maplewood, MN, Stanley, Jr. and wife Diane of Royalton, MN, and Charles of Flensburg; daughters, Joyce Karnowski and husband Don of Maplewood, Mary Anne Haselkamp and husband Herb of Little Falls, Judy Rudenick and husband Arnold of Forest Lake, MN, Dianne Broughten and husband Jim of Princeton, MN, Karen VanHeel and husband Dave of Swanville and Doreen Mackedanz and husband Greg of St. Cloud; brother, John Zilkowski and wife Marcey of Little Falls; sisters, Carol Theis and husband Clyde of Buckman, MN, Bernie Gruber and husband Ernie of Pierz, MN, Alyce Muncy and husband Clifford of Buckman, Laverne Schneider and husband Alois of Little Falls, Sharon Kirchner and husband Dave of Minnetonka, MN, Betty Gibson and husband Chuck of Sioux Falls, SD, and Joan Zilka and husband Ed of St. Louis Park, MN; 30 grandchildren and 33 great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Joseph in 1938; parents, Charles and Mary Maness; adoptive parents, Cyril and Frances Zilkowski; brother, Leonard Pawlletta and sisters, Lorraine Miller and Agnes Maness.

Casketbearers were Kevin, Anthony and Allen Schneider, Shawn and Michael VanHeel, Chris Broughten, and Bob and Mark Empey.

Bruce Lepinski
Bruce Lepinski, age 46, a resident of Rice, MN, died February 2, 1999.
Funeral services were held February 6 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice, with Rev. David Maciej officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Bruce was born July 24, 1952, in Little Falls, MN, to Clarence and Frances Jean (Tylman) Lepinski. He married Mary Dirkes on June 7, 1975, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls. He lived in Rice for the past 19-1/2 years, and was a welder at Park Industries in St. Cloud, MN. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rice Knights of Columbus Bishop Busch Council 9138, Little Falls American Legion Post 46, and was an usher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Rice; children and their spouses, Carla Gronau and Chad of Waite Park, MN, Michael Lepinski of Rice and Laura Lepinski of Rice; parents, Clarence and Frances Jean Lepinski of Little Falls; brothers, Mark Lepinski of Sauk Rapids, MN, Alan and Wayne Lepinski of St. Joseph, MN, and granddaughter, Kalley Gronau of Waite Park.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
