Emmi Buss
Emmi Buss, infant daughter of Gregory and Kimberly (Bzdok) Buss, East Bethel, MN, was born and died on January 22, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN.
Survivors include her parents; sister, Celka Buss; grandparents, George and LaVerne Bzdok of Little Falls, MN, and William and Carolyn Buss of Pequot Lakes, MN.

Marcia Yugend
Marcia Yugend, age 66, of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Little Falls, MN, passed away.
Funeral services were held at the Beth El Synagogue in St. Louis Park, MN.

Marcia was a mentor, facilitator, activist and advisor. Her world encompassed so much and her influence touched so may. She was truly a bringer-together of people.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Jerry; devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Dana Yugend-Pepper and Larry Pepper of Minneapolis, Cantor Julie Yugend-Green and Dr. Warren Green, Oak Park, IL; loving “My My” of Micah, Sophie Mae and Ari Pepper, Ell and Rachel Green and many other relatives and so many friends.

Orville Hedin
Orville (Barney) Hedin, age 80, a resident of Long Prairie, MN, died February 7, 1999, at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held February 10 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie. Father Gerald Dalseth and Deacon Mark Zenner officiated. Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Long Prairie.

Orville was born January 30, 1919, in Pillsbury, MN to Louis and Mary (Caine) Hedin. He grew up and attended Swanville School. During the summer he worked in the C.C.C. camps. On March 28, 1941 he married Lorraine Gossler in Chicago, IL. He held many jobs in several different locations such as Chicago and Alaska where he did construction work in Skagway and the Aleutian Islands. He finally retired from Mammouth Industries in Plymouth, MN. Among the things he enjoyed doing was cutting and selling wood, working and living in his cabin on Long Lake, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of Long Prairie; children, June (Rocky) Elmes of Long Prairie, Karen (Herb) Till of Hudson, WI, and Joan (Russ) Niskanen of Alexandria, MN; brothers and sisters, Kenneth, Edward, and Gene Hedin all of Swanville, MN; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Mary; son Gary in 1968; brothers, Nub and Donald Hedin.

Casketbearers were Gary, Christopher and Andy Niskanen, Susan, Joe, Patrick, and Andrea Elmes, and Douglas and David Till.

Jordan Walcheski
Jordan J. Walcheski, 3 months, of Pierz, MN, died February 5, 1999, at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
Funeral services were held February 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morrill, MN, with the Rev. Laurn Virnig officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Jordan Walcheski was born November 4, 1998 in St. Cloud, MN to Darin and Brenda (Sobania) Walcheski.

Survivors include his parents; brother Aaron at home; grandparents Albert and Marge Walcheski, Pierz; Roger and Linnea Sobania of Foley, MN; great-grandparents Pauline Sobania of Foley; Harold and Orvella Babineau, Columbia Heights, MN and great-great-grandmother Clara Gehrke of Annandale, MN.

Stanley Lonsky

Stanley (Stosh) M. Lonsky, age 78, a resident of Columbia Hiehgts and North Minneapolis, MN, died January 31, 1999.

Funeral services, conducted by Father Gregory Tolaas, were held at the Malone Funeral Home in Minneapolis. Interment was at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in New Brighton, MN.

Stanley was born April 1, 1920, in Minneapolis. He and his wife, Elizabeth, had a cabin on Peavey Lake in Richardson Township, MN, for 35 years. He was a charter member of Good Time Charlies.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Sandy, Tom and Pat, Mike and Lynn; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Helen, Marie and Catherine; and, brothers John and Ben.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Pallbearers were Roger, Tom, Mike, Jeff, Jim and Christine Lonsky.

Carney S. Werner
Carney S. Werner died January 19, 1999.

Memorial services were held January 24, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington, DE. Interment was in Bethesda, MD.

Carney Werner was born in Stearns County, MN, on December 25, 1918, to Henry and Margaret (Smith) Werner. He attended schools in Little Falls, MN. He spent four years in the Second Marine Division in the South Pacific during World War II. After discharge he attended college in Washington, DC and was employed with the Department of the Interior.

Survivors include three brothers and two sisters, Leslie Werner, Little Falls, Robert Werner, Inver Grove Heights, MN, Thomas Werner, Danbury, WI and Brownsville, TX, Jean Withers, Little Falls and Margaret Blumer, Eureka, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Eleanor; daughter, Sandra; second wife, Christine; and sisters, Elizabeth Teitgen and Ellen Silva.

Frank Polesak
Frank A. “Fred” Polesak died February 6, 1999.
Mass of Christian Burial was held February 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alexandria, MN. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Alexandria.

Frank was born January 1, 1905, to George and Josephine (Yasgar) Polesak in Swan River Township. He attended school and graduated from St. Stanislaus parochial school in Sobieski, MN. Anne Geris and Frank were united in marriage in February of 1932. Two children were born to them—a son, Fred, and a daughter, Patricia. Frank worked for the Sooline Railroad and then later for the Great Northern Railroad until his retirement. Anne and Frank resided all of their married lives in Alexandria. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; children, Patricia and Fred; brother, Leo and wife Helen of Sobieski; sister-in-law, Eleanor (Louis) Polesak of Farmington, MN, and grandsons, Tom, Chad, Jeff and Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Josephine and brothers, George and Louis.

Kenneth Hayes
Kenneth Franklin Hayes, age 73, a resident of Pierz, MN, died March 1, 1999, at his home in Platte Township, Morrison County, MN.
Funeral services were held March 4 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN, with the Rev. Jan Boseman officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Military rites were conducted by Little Falls VFW Post 1112.

Kenneth was born March 15, 1925, in Platte Township, Morrison County, to the late Frank and Cora (Sween) Hayes. He grew up in Platte Township and attended a country school. After his schooling, Kenneth lived at home and helped his parents farm. He entered the United States Army on January 22, 1945, and received an honorable discharge on November 23, 1946. While in the military, he earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Kenneth was united in marriage to Inez M. Gorton on March 15, 1947, in Brainerd, MN. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in Platte Township where he resided until his death. He also worked for Bolister’s in Pierz. Kenneth was a former Platte Township Supervisor, life member of the Little Falls VFW Post 1112, past member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association and was a current member of the Minnesota Water Fowl Association and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Inez; son, Craig and wife Glenda of Brainerd; daughters, Geraldine “Geri” Hines and friend Jim McLennan of Cushing, MN, and Donna Hinnenkamp and husband Thomas of Little Falls; brother, Gene Hayes of Brainerd; sisters, Lillian Swaser and husband Leo of Pierz, Dorothy Ernst and friend Tony Bruno of Brainerd, Eleanor Young and husband Mike of Pierz, Esther Knopik and husband Bud of Pierz and Dorine Olson of Brainerd and friend Mel Boser of Pierz; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Patrick Fabro.

Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Hayes, Paul Tatro, Mel Boser, Alan Keehr, Gene Kapus, Carman Hebler and Harry Dircks. Casketbearers were Carry Swaser, Wes Young, Kevin Hayes, Doug Olson, Kevin Dircks and Lonny Swaser.

John Dominick
John H. Dominick, age 79, a resident of Pierz, MN, died February 25, 1999, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held March 1 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Kenneth Brenny officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

John was born July 25, 1919, in Hillman Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Albert and Caroline (Chastek) Dominick. He grew up in Hillman Township and attended District 97 school. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1937. John entered the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1941 and served as a B-17 bombardier stationed in England. He was honorably discharged from active duty in December, 1945, but continued in the Air Force Reserve until retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1968. John was united in marriage to Donna M. Schroeder on January 7, 1947, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. He worked as an independent insurance agent in the Pierz area until he sold the agency to Willie Schommer in 1984. John also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier from 1952 until retiring in September, 1978. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, playing cards and coffee time at the Old Bank. John was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, Pierz American Legion Post 341 and the Anniversary Club.

Survivors include his son, John “Jay” Dominick and wife Kathy of Pierz; daughters, Nancy Juetten and husband Herb of Pierz, Cindy Zamzow and husband Dennis of Glenwood, MN, Wendy Young and husband Dave of Harding, MN, and Laurie Janson and husband Jerry of Pierz; brother, Russell Dominick and wife Evelyn of Pierz; sisters, June Gau of Pierz, Ora Posner of Centerville, UT, and Ettie Super and husband Al of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, John Schotl, Christopher and Amanda Juetten, Shannon, Amy and Nicole Young, Shawn, Nathan and Scott Janson, Katera, Andrew and Kim Nieman and Kari Dominick and great-grandson, Tannor Boxwell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna on June 25, 1997; parents; brother, Bruce Dominick and two grandchildren, Michael Schotl and Katie Dominick.

Honorary pallbearers were Lee Meyer, Ray Solinger, Harold Meyer, Jim Shaft, Marne Nagel and Ron Nagel.

Pallbearers were John Schotl, Gary Jutz, Adam Libby, Brad Dominick, Kim Gau and Shawn Janson.
