Lorraine Banick
Lorraine Banick, age 84, a resident of Harding, MN, passed away March 8, 1999, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial was March 11 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross Parish Cemetery.

Lorraine was born on May 19, 1914, to John and Catherine (Tretter) Donek in the rural Pierz area. She was united in marriage to Stanley Banick on March 30, 1933, in Harding. Shortly after, they moved to Flint, MI, where Stanley worked for General Motors Corp. They later moved back to the Harding area where they farmed until Stanley’s death on November 23, 1977. Lorraine then moved to a house in Harding where she lived until a few weeks before her death. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Her pastimes included raising beautiful flowers, gardening, knitting mittens and socks, sewing, doing outdoor things in the summer, and playing cards. She also very much treasured visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include sons, Archie Banick of Harding, Jerald Banick and wife Bernice of Harding, Gary Banick and wife Christine of Pierz, and Dennis Banick and wife Kathleen of Little Falls, MN; brother, Reinhard Donek of Pierz; sisters-in-law, Lonah Donek and Janeice Donek of the Pierz area and many precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; parents, John and Catherine Donek; sister, Alma Zapzalka and brothers, Louis, Herb and Alfred Donek.

Casketbearers were Lowell, Brad, Todd, Terry and Kevin Banick and Lee Aultman.

Honorary casketbearers were Eleanor Skochenski and Lonah and Janeice Donek.

Robert Thomas, age 82, a resident of Hillman, died at his home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 12 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 13 at the Lakeview Community Church in Hillman. Funeral arrangements are through the Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz.

MaryLou Garretson
MaryLou Garretson, age 73, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died March 8, 1999, at her residence in Little Falls.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 12 at the Brenny-Simonet Funeral Home (East Chapel). VFW Auxiliary Prayer Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. and a Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the time of service on Saturday.

Funeral services March 13 at the Brenny - Simonet Funeral Home (East Chapel) in Little Falls with Reverend Martin Langemo officiating. Burial at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery.

She was born on December 24, 1925, to Alfred and Eva (Young) Richner east of Little Falls, MN. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Little Falls and attended the country school there. As a young girl, she worked at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls and later at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd. While working at her sister’s restaurant in Tillamook, OR, she met and later wed Adron (Chuck) Garretson on October 30, 1944. The couple raised their five children in Richfield, MN. Chuck and MaryLou have made their home in Little Falls since 1986. MaryLou was a member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary and enjoyed the functions there. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, reading, dancing, and playing card games. MaryLou loved sewing, tending to the houseplants and collecting owls.

Survivors include her husband Chuck Garretson of Little Falls, MN; sons, Butch Garretson and wife Barbara of Richfield, MN and Wayne Garretson and wife Patty of Savage, MN; daughters, Barb Carlson and husband Loren of Little Falls, Carol DeCroix and husband Alain of Paris, France, Kathy Hutchins and husband Ed of Spokane, WA, and Wanda Smith and husband Luther of Nellis, West Virginia; brother, Howard Richner of Little Falls; sisters, Edith Olson of Little Falls, Louise Wood of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Ella Moran of Little Falls; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Sonny and Harvey; sisters Evelyn and Ethel; and grandchild Shane.

Donald Zoren
Donald Joseph Zoren, age 67, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died March 8, 1999, at his residence in Little Falls.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at the Brenny Funeral Home (West Chapel) in Little Falls. Christian Mothers Prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. parish Prayers at 6 p.m., and Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead Prayers at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the time of service at the Brenny Funeral Home (West Chapel) on Friday morning.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, March 12 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Little Falls VFW Post 1112 and the Flensburg American Legion.

Donald was born on March 17, 1931, in Little Falls to the late Isadore and Stella (Vnuk) Zoren. Donald entered the United States Army on July 18, 1952, and received an honorable discharge on July 10. 1954. He served in the Korean War in the 726th T.T. Co. He was united in marriage to Norma (Theis) Zoren on June 9, 1956. They resided in Little Falls, where he worked at Hennepin Paper Company. He retired in July 1995. He was a life member of the Little Falls VFW Post 1112, and belonged to the VFW Cooties and longtime member of the honor guard. Flensburg American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Donald enjoyed walking, bowling, playing cards, doing volunteer work and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Little Falls; son, Jim Zoren of Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Mary (Mark) Polasek of Sobieski, MN, Bart (Tom) Ernster of Fridley, MN, Sandy (Gary) Wesselman of New Brighton, MN, and Marlys of Heidelberg, Germany; four grandchildren, Neil Polasek, Sarah and Rachel Ernster and Emily Wesselman; brothers, Edward and Harold Zaren of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, Gertrude Peternell of Milwaukee, WI, Lorraine Woald of Wittenberg, WI, and Adeline (Frank) Yasgar of Little Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and David and three infant brothers, Richard, Raphael and Frannie; twin sister, Donna; and one infant sister, Marlys.

Casketbearers were Warren and Francis Zaren, Tom, Jerry and Jeff Yasgar and Brian Larson.

Eugene Caughey
Eugene L. Caughey, died February 2, 1999, in El Sobrante, CA.
A memorial service was held March 2 at Wilson and Kratzer Funeral Home of Richmond, CA. A graveside service will be March 19 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery south of Brainerd, MN, with Reverend Dwight Johnson officiating. Memorials may be made to Riverside Cemetery Association.

Eugene was born April 24, 1918, in Brainerd, MN, to Fr. Preston and Martha (Hohensee) Caughey. He grew up in Brainerd and graduated from Washington High School. He served two years in the Army Corps of Engineers in the states and overseas. He married Ethel (Warner) Olson on December 20, 1975, in El Sobrante, CA.

Survivors include his wife Ethel; two sons, Ron and wife Kathy of Tacoma, WA, Curtis and wife Kelly of Troy, OH; five grandchildren, Theresa, Mark Sue Ann, Megan and Sarah; two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Sarah; three brothers, Norman and wife Betty of Brainerd, MN; Francis and wife Evelyn of Minneapolis, MN, Bill and wife Alice of Brainerd, MN; four sisters, Kathleen (Milo) Buehler of Fort Ripley, MN, Marion Siegel and Lois (Marvin) Siegel both from Brainerd, MN, Bonnie (Lynn) Olson of Alexandria, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Marjorie and one brother-in-law, LeRoy Siegel.

Margaret Super
Margaret Super, age 84, a resident of Willmar, MN, died March 19, 1999, at the Rice Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held March 23 at the Church of St. Mary with Father Brian Mandel officiating. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

She was born on May 24, 1917, in Flensburg, MN, the daughter of Michael and Pauline Wojciechowski. She grew up and received her education in Flensburg. In 1937, she was married to Simon “Sam” Super and they made their home in the Little Falls and St. Cloud areas. In 1974, they moved to Willmar. Sam died in 1980. In September of 1987, she entered the Bethesda Heritage Center where she has lived since. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, Sandra and Art Hesse of Glenwood, MN, Carol Messelt of Willmar, and Ronald and Karen Super of Royalton, MN; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Hall of Winter Garden, FL, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

Michael Osberg
Michael Francis Osberg, age 20, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died as a result of a car accident at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls on March 18, 1999.

Funeral services were March 20, 1999, at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, with Pastor Dave Steffenson officiating. Burial was in the Gethsemane Lutheran Cemetery in Upsala, MN.

Michael was born on October 6, 1978, in St. Cloud, MN, to William and Zena (Vanikotis) Osberg. He lived in Little Falls, and graduated from Little Falls Community High School in June of 1997. Michael attended Brainerd Community College, and then transferred to St. Cloud State University in 1998. He loved boating, downhill skiing, water skiing, and his work. He was employed with the family business, “Bill’s Decorating and Contracting”. Michael was very active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and rose to the rank of “LIFE”. He made his “TEC” in March of 1996, and the family hopes you make yours soon.

Survivors include his parents, Bill and Zena Osberg of Little Falls; grandfather, William E. Osberg of Upsala; grandmother, Bee Osberg of Edina, MN; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; his dog “Gunnar” and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Francis and Anna Johnson, and Bert and Laura Ramlo; and his grandparents, Minas and Kathryn Vanikiotis.

Casketbearers were Erik Osberg, Tracy Peterson, Andrew Francis, Minas Smitchger, Ryan Dobis, Jesse Oothoudt, Cory Dierkhising, and Kyle Johnson.

Honorary casketbearers were his classmates and Boy Scout Troop 51.

Memorials will be used to establish a scholarship in Michael’s name.

James Klisch
James R. Klisch, age 62, a resident of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Elmdale, MN, and Upsala, MN, died March 12, 1999.

Funeral services were held March 17 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in St. Paul. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

James was born June 10, 1936, in Bowlus, MN, to Edward and Theresa (Jendro) Klisch. He worked at St. Paul Plastics for 43 years.

Survivors include wife, Kathy; father, Edward Klisch of Bowlus; son and daughters, Al, Chris, Andrea Fox and Maggie of St. Paul; Marcie of Little Falls, MN; Patricia of Buffalo, MN; Cathy of Hamel, MN; Lois of Bowlus; Alice of Zimmerman, MN; Jane of Anoka, MN; Jean of New Brighton, MN; Karen of Holdingford, MN; Annie of Blaine, MN; and Mary of Shoreview, MN.
