Henry Drywa
Henry A. Drywa, age 85, died January 31, 1999, at his home in Fountain Hills, AZ.

A private service was held in Fountain Hills, AZ, on February 5. A memorial service and interment will be held in July at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church in Platte Township, celebrated by Rt. Rev. Henry Meus, assisted by Bill Dix.
Henry was born on November 23, 1913, in Serakowice, Poland. He was formerly employed as a foundry stone mason.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Bednark of Fountain Hills; daughter, Gertruda Kryza of Poland; stepchildren, Karen Jones of Tulsa, OK, Dan Bednark of Scottsdale, AZ, Cheryl Andrea and Donna Young of Pierz, MN, John and Greg Bednark of St. Cloud, MN, and Robert Bednark of Gresham, OR; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Krebs; brothers, Karl Bialke, Franz Bialke and Erwin Bialke, all of Dortmund, Germany.

William Rassler
William Rassler, age 68, a resident of Cushing, MN, died suddenly at his home February 15, 1999.

Funeral services were held February 20 at the First Baptist Church in Pillager, MN, with Reverend Bob Osell officiating. Burial was in Gill Gall Cemetery in Rail Prairie Township. Military rites were performed by the Brainerd American Legion Post 255.

William was born August 2, 1930, in Winthrop, MN, to Arno and Clara (Madsen) Rassler. William worked as a grain shoveler at Archer Daniels. In 1951, he joined the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. Upon his return from the war, he became a millwright at Archer Daniels. On July 10, 1953, he was united in marriage to Harriet Marie Wilson. William joined the Millwrights Local 548 in 1967 and retired in 1994. He was a member of the Pillager VFW, the Brainerd American Legion and a board member in Rail Prairie Township. He was active in the restoration of the Gill Gall Cemetery and loved to garden, hunt, fish, read and travel.

Survivors include his wife, Harriet; children, Pam (Tim) Klosner of Lindstrom, MN, LeAnne (Tim) Braulk of Mora, MN, Teresa (Farron) Hall of Alamosa, CO, Alan (Teresa) Rassler of Baxter, MN, Sherri (Chris) Dobson of East Gull Lake, MN, Gary (and friend Amy) of Pillager and special nephew Jim (Deb) Wilson of Redwood Falls, MN; 21 grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Donna) Rassler of White Sulpher Springs, MT, and Darwin (Delores) Rassler of Townsend, MT; sisters, Shirley (Luther) Koon of Garrison, MN, and Cheryl Stately of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rassler of Litchfield, MN; brother-in-law, Melton Wilson of Staples, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arno and Clara; brother, Kenneth and sisters, Lavonne Osborne and Muriel Wilson.

Verta Hoogheem
Verta Hoogheem, age 86, a resident of Motley, MN, died February 14, 1999, at the Greater Staples Care Center.
Funeral services were held February 19 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, MN, with Reverend Les Crider officiating. Burial was in the Motley Public Cemetery.

Verta Mae Hoogheem was born on April 17, 1912, in rural Browerville, MN, to the late Ross and Mary (Frank) Sarff. She married Bert Hoogheem on October 3, 1933, in Motley. The couple moved to New Richmond, WI, where they farmed for several years before moving to Clarissa, MN, and then Motley. She had resided at Sunny Pines in Motley since 1984. Verta was a member of the Motley Free Methodist Church, where she was active in Sunday School and served as treasurer for several years.

Survivors include a son, Donny (Leona) Hoogheem of Spokane, WA; a daughter, Lorna (Nick) Lee of Motley; two sisters, Beulah Ford of Staples and Lillian Noble of Veradale, WA; two brothers, Duley Sarff of Idaho, and Harold Sarff of Spokane; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert, in 1991; two sisters, Dehlia and Una; and two great-grandsons, Gene and Aaron.

Ella E. Oliver
Ella E. Oliver, age 77, a resident of Burleene Township, rural Eagle Bend, MN, passed away February 15, 1999, at her son’s home, under Hospice Care, in Leslie Township, Todd County, MN.
A funeral service was held February 17 at the American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, MN, with David Sorensen officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie.

Ella was born February 3, 1922, in Little Sauk Township, Todd County, to Paul and Etta (Wheeler) McNeal. She married Edward A. Oliver on January 1, 1942, in Reynolds Township. She resided in Todd County her entire life. She and her husband farmed in Long Prairie Township 23 years, in Burleene Township until 1977, moved to Pillsbury, and then to her present home 10 years ago. She was a 4-H member, winning several trips to the State Fair. Her hobbies included working on the family tree, quilting, embroidery, fishing, playing cards, gardening, flowers and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie.

Survivors include seven children, Dennis (Betty) Oliver, Long Prairie, Adeline (Geoffrey) Stumpf of Banning, CA, David (Martha) Oliver of Swanville, MN, Leroy (Leila) Oliver, Long Prairie, Norman (Brenda) Oliver of Browerville, MN, Jimmy Oliver of Grey Eagle, MN, and Linda (Henry) Tesch of Grey Eagle; two brothers and one sister, George (Marilyn) McNeal of Long Prairie, Herb (Wanda) McNeal, Mountain Iron, MN, and Bertha (Rodney) Westergren of Bertha, MN; 18 grandchildren; and, three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, March 11, 1998; daughter, Hazel Oliver; granddaughter, Renee Oliver; one brother, John, in infancy and one sister, Mary Zager.

Casketbearers were Dennis, David, Leroy, Norman and Jimmy Oliver and Henry Tesch.

Beatrice O. Peterschick
Beatrice O. Peterschick, age 89, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Randall, MN, died February 10, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held February 3 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Randall with Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parker Township.

Beatrice O. Peterschick was born December 7, 1909, in Parker Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late George and Mathilda (Tweet) Oothoudt. She grew up and attended country school in Parker Township. Following her schooling she worked at the Randall Hotel. She was united in marriage to Albert A. Peterschick on February 15, 1930, in Detroit Lakes, MN. The couple lived in Parker Township until their retirement in 1960 when they moved into Randall. During this time, Beatrice was a devoted housewife and mother to her five boys and looked after the farm while Albert was working away from home. The couple also owned and operated the cafe in Randall. Beatrice lived in Randall until February 1996 when she and her husband entered the Lutheran Care Center. Albert died on July 14 1996. Beatrice enjoyed gardening, quilting, and reading. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family.

Survivors include her sons, Robert G. Peterschick and wife Iola of Oakdale, MN, Richard K. Peterschick and wife Kay of Randall, Douglas D. Peterschick and wife Jackie of Sartell, MN, Gerald J. Peterschick and wife Loretta of Randall; sister, Maxine Bjornoos and husband Alfred of Randall; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mathilda (Tweet) Oothoudt; husband Albert A. Peterschick; son, James Peterschick; great-granddaughter, Alexa Ann Peterschick; brothers, Glen, Andrew and Woodrow Oothoudt; and sister, Zorah Fox.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Brian, Chad, Jason, Kallan, Shane and Kernan Peterschick.

Warren S. Reese
Warren S. Reese, age 74, a resident of Rice, MN, formerly of Freedhem, MN, died February 10, 1999, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services were held February 13 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Loren Olson of First United Church in Little Falls officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Hancock, MN.

Warren S. Reese was born on October 9, 1924, in Hancock, MN, to the late Levi and Sena (Benson) Reese. He grew up on a farm in the Hancock area and graduated from Hancock High School. Following his schooling, he farmed with his family. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Haley on June 19, 1949, in Glenwood, MN. He then began working for creameries in the Minneota, Hancock and Marshall areas. He moved to Freedhem in 1959 where he managed the creamery. He also worked at the creamery in Pierz, MN, from 1972-1974. He then moved to Rice where he worked at the creamery until his semi-retirement in 1981. Following his work at the creamery he farmed on his hobby farm in Watab Township near Rice. Warren enjoyed reading and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Dennis Reese of Rice; daughters, Judy Reese of Rice, Joan Williams and husband Ray of Randall, MN, Barbara Seelen of Little Falls, and Nancy Jerde and husband Ron of Rice; brothers, Kenny Reese and wife Alice of Hancock, Dean Reese and wife Mona of Minneapolis, MN, Roger Reese and wife Betty of Alexandria, MN, and Herb Reese and wife Myra of Hancock; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Sena (Benson) Reese; sons, David Reese and Richard Reese; brothers, Eldon, Frank and Roy Reese; and grandchildren, David Williams, Nicole Seelen, Ronnie Jerde and Michael Jerde.

Robert W. Bloom

Robert W. Bloom, age 63, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died February 10, 1999, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital.
Memorial services for Robert were private. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls.

Robert W. Bloom was born June 21, 1935, in Brookings, S.D., to the late Walter and Lois “Dano” Bloom. As a young child, Robert moved with his family to the Little Falls area where he attended Hawthorne and Washington Schools. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 23, 1958 and was honorably discharged May 20, 1960. He worked for Les Benusa Construction in Little Falls from 1960 until 1970. Robert worked for Smith Construction in Grand Forks, ND. He worked for Lake State Construction from 1970 until retiring in 1994. Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, the outdoors, leatherwork and collecting pocketwatches.

Survivors include his brother, Milo Hendrickson and wife, Mary Ann of Little Falls; sisters, Lillian Saulter of Little Falls, Dorothy Manlick of Little Falls, Lois Thoms and husband Clarence of Oregon City, OR; Leona Nelson and husband Richard of Little Falls and Rosemary Lamp and husband, Lester of Cushing, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lois Bloom.

Richard Schreiber
Richard Schreiber, age 74, a lifetime resident of Little Falls,MN, died April 24, 1999, at his home, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial was held April 27 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Military rites were provided by Little Falls VFW Post 1112.

Richard was born June 28, 1924, in Little Falls to Julius and Pauline (Zurowski) Schreiber. He graduated from Little Falls High School, and then entered the United States Navy on December 25, 1942. He served during WWII on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. San Jacinto. Richard was united in marriage to Rose Wielinski on October 15, 1946, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was employed by Hennepin Paper Co. for 40 years, beginning his journey as a fifth-hand and retiring as a tour foreman on July 30, 1986. After retiring, Richard served one term on the Little Falls City Council and became active on the Mainstreet Committee. He was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, serving on the parish council for three years, and cleaning and serving for funeral Masses. He was very active and served on the board of directors of the Little Falls Senior Citizens Center and presently was their president. Richard was also a life member of VFW Post 1112. Richard enjoyed life fully, bringing laughter and smiles to everyone he encountered. His life centered around service to his family, community and nation. Richard’s wife, Rose, their children and 17 grandchildren were the focus and joy of his life. The Little Falls Senior Center was his passion. Early Thursday mornings, you would find him up to his elbows in doughnut making. Once a month, he would beat the griddle flipping pancakes for Pancake Sunday. Richard was instrumental in writing and obtaining numerous grants to fund improvements for the center. Currently, he was leading a fund-drive for a new addition to the center. As a lifelong resident of Little Falls, he was an advocate in promoting the beauty of the city. Richard was instrumental in bringing crafts to the west side of the city during the September Arts and Crafts weekend. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. The last few weeks of his life were a battle for him, but through it all he continued to smile and keep his faith and humor. Through his courage and great faith, he gave his family a wonderful gift—himself. “And now abideth faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (I Corinthians 13:13).

Survivors include his wife, Rose of Little Falls; sons, Ken Schreiber of St. Joseph, MN, and Dennis Schreiber and wife Lou Ann of Rochester, MN; daughters, Julie Czech and husband Don of Little Falls, Margaret Kalis and husband Dan of Buffalo, MN, and Patricia May and husband Jerry of Waconia, MN; brother, Donald Schreiber and wife Gen of Little Falls; sisters, Bernadine Motsko of Little Falls and Joanne Casey of New Hope, MN; son-in-law, Don Asselin of St. Cloud, MN, and 17 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Mary Asselin.

Casketbearers were Adam and Noah Czech, Chris and Brian Kalis, Anthony and Robby Schreiber and Terrence and Jason Asselin.

Honorary casketbearers were members of the Hennepin Paper Company.
