Florence Larson-Carter
Florence Larson-Carter, age 83, a resident of Apple Valley, MN, died February 22, 1999, after a three year battle with cancer.
Private services were held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A memorial service will be in May at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing, MN.

Florence was born August 12, 1915, in Waseca, MN, and lived in Rochester, Bloomington, Brainerd and Motley, MN. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Marcy (Jerry) Otto; son, Dave (Lin) Carter; grandchildren, Sue Schiffman, Steve Otto, Dan, Emilie, Andrew and Leslie Carter; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Ethan Schiffman and two brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Harold A. Carter; second husband Earle V. Larson; two brothers; and one sister.

Loretta Welle
Loretta Welle, age 72, a resident of Lastrup, MN, died February 24, 1999, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be March 1 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery by Camp Ripley, MN.

Visitation will be from 4 until 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz, MN. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday morning at the Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz.

Loretta was born May 4, 1926, to George and Anna (Held) Tretter in Lastrup where she was raised and attended school. She worked at the Brainerd Hospital in housekeeping, at St. Mary’s Villa and St. Cloud Poultry & Egg. Loretta was united in marriage to Leo Welle on January 19, 1948. Leo died on December 2, 1997. Loretta had been living at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz for the past five years. She enjoyed crossword books, puzzles and loved to play cards.

Survivors include her sons, Clarence Welle and wife Kim of Lastrup, Joseph Welle and wife Pam of Little Falls, George Welle and wife Marlys of Sauk Rapids, MN, and Leo Welle and wife Karen of Little Falls; daughters, Barbara Welle of St. Cloud, MN, Theresa Waytashek and husband Dennis of Effie, MN, Rose Kowalzek and husband Adrian of Pierz and Ella Kowalzek of Sauk Rapids; sister, Alice Smude of Pine Center, MN; 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and four sisters.

Casketbearers will be Scott Welle, Kevin Welle, Jonathon Welle, Daniel Welle, Scott Waytashek, Luke Kowalzek, Harlan Kowalzek and Mark Kowalzek.

Agatha Wollack
Agatha Annette Wollack, age 91, a resident of Sartell, MN, died February 23 at the Country Manor Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held February 27 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN, with the Rev. Simon Bischof O.S.B. officiating. Burial was in the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Royalton.

Agatha Wollack was born January 3, 1908, in North Prairie, MN, to Frank and Lucy (War-zecha) Trettel. She attended Royalton High School and graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College in 1927. She taught at elementary schools in Benton and Morrison Counties for nine years. She married Edward A. Wollack on August 18, 1936, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in North Prairie, MN. They lived in Milwaukee, WI for two years before moving to St. Cloud in 1938, where they lived for 58 years. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Augustine Christian Mothers, and was a Red Cross volunteer. Agatha was a teacher, nature lover and talented grower of flowers. She will be remembered for her kindness, quiet presence and will be an inspiration to all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Edward of Sartell; children and their spouses, Edward Francis and Donna Wollack of Woodville, WI, Joseph A. and Susan Wollack of Corcoran, Mary M. and Richard Lindmeier of Sartell, Lorraine R. and Richard Ring of Carmel, CA; brothers and sisters, Albert Trettel of Apple Valley, MN, Dr. Raymond Trettel of Merritt Island, FL, Cele Josetti of Brookfield, WI, and Jeanette Metz of Westminster, CA; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Regina Trettel; sister, Florence Krystosek; brothers Alphonse Trettel, Sylvester Trettel, Fr. Jerome Trettel of Maryknoll Missionaries, and Clarence Trettel; and grandson Douglas John Ring.

Harry N. Brummer
Harry N. Brummer, age 68, a resident of Hillman, MN died August 21, 1997 at his home.

Funeral services were held August 23 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman, with Father Nathan Packard officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Harry was born August 28, 1928 in Lastrup, MN to Lawrence and Annie (Kinkan) Brummer. He was united in marriage with Mary Kruschek on May 2, 1950 at St. Rita’s Church in Hillman. They farmed and lived in the Hillman area all their married life. Harry was an avid sportsman who was well known for his baseball and softball interest. He also loved hunting and trapping.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Andy and wife Debbie of Hillman; daughters, Peggy Pomrenke of Nome, AK, Deana Hoefler and husband George of Pierz, MN, Lisa Hulsing and husband Gearold of Onamia, MN; sisters, Isabelle Perkins of Onamia, Angeline Janson of Lastrup and Katie Poland of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren, Hannah Hulsing, Jerry Luke Hulsing, Casey, John and Josi Hoefler, Emmy Lou, Andrea, and Jessica Brummer, Jodi Brummer Dumbeck, Dustin and Brent Wacker, and Niki Pomrenke; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jody; grandsons, Joshua and Luke; and five brothers.

Casketbearers were nephews, grandchildren and sons-in-law.

Cacimier “Elmer” Langner

Cacimier “Elmer” Langer, age 78, a resident of Bowlus, MN, died August 20, 1997 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held August 23 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Holdingford, MN with Rev. Gerald Mischke officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Elmer Langner was born March 3, 1919 in Holdingford, to John C. and Francis (Herman) Langner. He married Emma Heitzman on July 3, 1946 in Holdingford. He owned and operated 4 Corners Bar, Bowlus, from 1954 to 1958. He was a truck driver for Opole Creamery and then for Albany Creamery, retiring in 1983. He served in the Merchant Marines and, prior to his marriage, was a member of the old time band “Slim & Spud”. He was a member of St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Holdingford, Bowlus American Legion Post #642 and Holdingford Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife, Emma; daughters and son, Louise Adolph, Holdingford, Marlin Langner and wife, Donna of Plymouth, MN, Sharelin Biniek and husband, Dennis, Bowlus; brothers and sisters, Clements Langner, Avon, MN, Veronica Yell, Alexandria, MN, Peggy Harlander, Chisolm, MN, Ger-maine “Jerry” Langner, Hunting-ton Beach, CA, Dorothy Whiteley, Lomita, CA, Caroline McIllhenny, Millbrae, CA, Virginia Pintok, Troy, MT, Genevieve “Genny” Pintok, Aurora, OR, Benjamin Langner, Williamsburg, VA; five grandchildren, Shawn and Jeremy Langner and Derek, Trent and Dustin Biniek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Frank, Stan and Theo Langner; Marie Anderson, Clara Bandimere and Emily Solarz.

Richard Carlson

Richard K. “Bill” Carlson, age 75, a resident of Clarissa, MN, died August 20, 1997 at his home.

Funeral services were held August 22 at the Little Falls Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls.

Richard K. “Bill” Carlson was born on March 8, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Emil and Anna (Haak) Carlson. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis North High School. Bill worked for his brother as a butcher before entering the U.S. Navy where he served from 1942 until 1946. He was united in marriage to Jean Nelson. The couple made their home in Minneapolis for a few years before moving to Clarissa to farm. After his retirement, Bill continued living on the farm and took on a variety of jobs including driving a transport vehicle for senior citizens, delivering Sunday papers, and janitorial work. Bill’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, planting trees, coffee with friends and playing cribbage. He was also an active grandfather to his seven grandchildren. He was a member and past commander of the Clarissa American Legion and Immanuel Lutheran Church now known as Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Jean Carlson of Crystal, MN; sons, Richard and wife, JoAn of Waconia, MN and Corey and wife, Paula of Kasson, MN; daughters, Cheryl Wersal and husband, Greg of Golden Valley, MN and Trudy Larson and husband Mark of Little Falls, MN; brother, Emil Carlson of Brainerd, MN; sisters, Lillian Hanson of Olivia, MN and Marge Parsons of Greenfield, MN; and, seven grandchildren, Crissy, Josh and Dusty Larson, Nathan and Alissa Wersal and Ashley and Evan Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Carlson.

Pallbearers were Don Anderson, Don Lindig, Vernon Holmquist, Wayne Stuckmayer, Hollis Dickinson and Gordy Johnson.

Erma Tufte
Erma M. Tufte, age 83, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died December 3, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Services have been scheduled for Sunday, December 6, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall, with Reverend Terry Stumbo officiating. Burial will follow at the Scandia Valley Cemetery.

Erma Marie Tufte was born July 12, 1915, in Cooperstown, ND, to the late Charles and Margaret (Hammeral) Louden. She grew up and attended school in Cooperstown. As a young lady, she moved to the Twin Cities with her sister, Gladys. She married A.M. “Andy” Tufte in 1936. She worked at National T, Northland Ice Cream, and the Thunderbird Hotel, where she was the head housekeeper for many years. The couple raised their family in Minneapolis, and, in 1964, purchased a cabin on Lake Alexander in the Cushing, MN area. There they spent their summers with their children. In 1992, Erma moved to her home in Little Falls, but she spent all of her free time at the lake and was known widely as a great fisherwoman. In May of this year, she moved into St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Survivors include one son, Dave Tufte of Cushing; one daughter, Janice Anderson of Cushing; two sisters, Shirley Hebert of Spokane, WA and Vannis Painter of Lincoln City, OR; three grandchildren, Cathy Holden and Jesse and Molly Anderson; and two great-grandchildren, Mathew and Jacob Holden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers, and two sisters.

Joyce Tretter
Joyce Elaine Tretter, age 55, a resident of Onamia, MN, died at her home on December 1, 1998.

Funeral services were held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia on December 3 with Father Ray Steffes officiating.

Joyce was born in Minneapolis, MN, on November 8, 1943, to Berthel and Erma (Romans) Johnson. She grew up in the Milaca, MN, area and graduated from Milaca High School. She was united in marriage to Duane Tretter on May 8, 1962, at the Little Flower Mission near Vineland. The couple has resided in the Onamia area for nearly 30 years. Joyce will always be remembered for the many lives she touched through her day care, as well as raising extended family members. Joyce enjoyed making cakes, playing cards, collecting dolls and adoring her grandchildren and dog, Charlie.

Survivors include her husband, Duane of Onamia; daughters, Lori and husband Bob of Brainerd, MN, Denise of Osseo, MN, and Kim and husband Tony of Crosby, MN; twin sons, Richard and wife Wendy and Adam and wife Darlene, both of Hillman, MN; grandchildren, Ryan, Tiffany, Brittany, Michael, Emily, Danielle, Abbey, Krista, Rachel, Claire and Rebecca; sisters, Jani Mains and husband Dick of Princeton, MN, and Alice and husband Don of Bock; brother, Carl and wife Barb of Texas; stepmother, Kris Johnson of New Ulm, MN; half brother, Robert Johnson and wife Peg of California; half sisters, Elaine Baker and husband Tom of Kirkhoven, MN, and Linda Kochler and husband Doug of Hanska, MN; step father, Bob Eckhardt of Ogilvie, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Berthel and Erma, and brother, Wayne.

Casketbearers included Jim Tretter, Harry Tretter, Bruce Tretter, David Tretter, Barney Kowalzek, Del Gave and Jeff Falconer. Honorary casketbearers were George and Marie Betlach, Ross and Donna Kutil, Bill and Jennie Miller, Jim and Mary Ann Miller and Wally and Margaret Young.
