Urban Poser
Urban Poser, age 74, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz, MN, died December 5, 1998, at St. Mary’s Villa.

Mass of Christian Burial was held December 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Ken Brenny officiating and Father Greg Poser con-celebrating. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Pierz. Military rites were provided by the Pierz American Legion.

Urban was born January 5,1924, to the late Herman and Theresia (Zierer) Poser in Buh Township, MN, where he lived his entire life. He was united in marriage to Zita Welle August 17, 1954, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. Urban started Poser Oil in the 1960s, retiring in January of 1986. He became a resident of St. Mary’s Villa in August of 1996. Urban loved gardening, woodwork, fishing, playing cards, bowling, and playing his harmonica. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz and a member of Pierz American Legion where he served as past Commander.

Survivors include his wife, Zita of Pierz; daughters, Julie of Forest Lake, MN, and Mary and her husband, Gene Aitkens of Cumber-land, WI; sons, Allen and his wife Jeanne of Pierz, Charlie and his wife Debbie of Pierz, Gary of Forest Lake, MN, Brian and finance, Lisa Girtz of Pierz, and Bruce and his wife Margie of Little Falls; six grandchildren, Chad, Melissa, Amanda, Mike, Kelly, and Scott Poser; two sisters, Alma Littlefield of Mason City, IA, and Adeline Przybilla of Brookfield, WI; four brothers, Edmund and Leonard of Pierz, Ben of New Berlin, WI, and Arnold of West Allis, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters.

Casketbearers were Sev Poser, Trevor Poser, Gene Poser, Ernie Poser, Dennis Welle, Clarence Welle, Mike Welle, and Leo Welle.

Harry Chuba
Harry Chuba, age 93, a resident of Upsala, MN, formerly of South Elmdale, MN, died December 6, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held December 9 at South Elmdale Congregational Church in South Elmdale with Reverend Terry Wilkinson officiating. Burial was at South Elmdale Congregational Church Parish Cemetery.

Harry was born September 11, 1905, to the late George and Helen (Warhol) Chuba in Elmdale Township. He grew up in South Elmdale and attended school in Holdingford, MN. After graduation he attended the University of Minnesota. Harry was united in marriage to Gladys Johnson on July 15, 1933, in South Elmdale. Together the couple farmed. They moved to Upsala in 1988. He enjoyed traveling, card playing, and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Gladys of Upsala; son Roger Chuba and wife Mary Jayne of Upsala; daughter, Shirley Clear and husband Bob of Holdingford; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen; brothers and sisters, George, Helen, Jack, Ann, Al, Dan, Irene, and Leo.

Casketbearers were Rodney, Mark, and Michael Chuba; Lynn Depa, Robin Maciej, and Robb Clear.

Edwin Thoma
Edwin J. Thoma, age 89, a resident of Chicago, IL, died December 7, 1998.

Mass of Christian Burial was held December 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN, with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church cemetery.

Edwin was born March 23, 1909, to Albert and Mary (Blechinger) Thoma in Little Falls. He was a graduate of the Little Falls Community High School, and went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota. He was employed by the United States Postal Service. Edwin served for five years with the United States Army in the Pacific at the time of World War II. He was a kind and gentle man whose material needs were few and simple. He gave generously to charity. Edwin had a great love for books and learning throughout his life and, in an effort to share that love, encouraged his five sisters to join with him in establishing the Thoma Family Trust for the purpose of supporting the Little Falls Community Schools.

Memorials preferred to the Thoma Family Trust.

Survivors include two sisters, Genevieve (Thoma) Young and husband Robert of Walnut Creek, CA, and Celia (Thoma) Hix of St. Paul, MN, and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Thoma and three sisters, Carolyn (Thoma) Odegard, Florence (Thoma) Kelso and Louise Thoma.

Hazel M. Christianson
Hazel M. Christianson, age 63, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died December 9, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls on December 12, with Rev. Hal Spann officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls at a later date.

Hazel was born July 3, 1935, in Freedhem, MN, to Alfred and Marceline Zimbrick. She grew up and attended school in Freedhem. In 1959, Hazel moved with her children to Clearfield, IA, returning to Little Falls in 1972. She was united in marriage to Donald Christianson on August 12, 1977, in Pine Grove Park in Little Falls. The couple made their home in Little Falls where Hazel worked as a nurse’s assistant for 22 years at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls. Donald passed away in 1995 and Hazel continued living in Little Falls. Hazel retired in January of 1997. She enjoyed dancing, going to garage sales, gardening and attending to her plants, spending time with her family and her dog, Cuddles, and, decorating for the holidays.

Survivors include her mother, Marceline Zimbrick and friend John of Little Falls; sons, Larry Merrill and fiancée Sherri of Flensburg, MN, Dale Merrill and wife Toni of Little Falls, Jeff Merrill and wife Laura of Swanville, MN, David Merrill of St. Paul of St. Paul, MN, Rick Abarr of Little Falls, Gary Abarr of Kansas City, MO, Bob Merrill of Kansas City, MO; brothers, Harley Zimbrick and wife Isabelle of St. Bonifacious, MN, Ron Zimbrick and wife Joan of Lindstrom, MN, and Walter Zimbrick of St. Paul, MN; sisters, Anette Zimmerman of Little Falls, Pamela Zimbrick of Anchorage, AK, Melody Pierce of Port Angelas, WA; friend, Les Schaffer of Little Falls, and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and husband Donald.

Ervin Carl Haberkorn
Ervin Carl Haberkorn, age 61, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died December 10, 1998, at his home in Belle Prairie Township, Morrison County, MN.

Funeral services were held December 14 at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Martin Langemo officiating. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie, MN.

Ervin Carl Haberkorn was born September 19, 1937 in Long Prairie, MN, to the late Erich and Meta (Schmekel) Haberkorn. He grew up in Long Prairie and attended the Long Prairie Schools, graduating in 1956. Following his schooling, Ervin drove milk truck and farmed with his parents in Hartford Township, Todd County, MN. Ervin and his parents later sold the farm and moved to a farm in Belle Prairie Township, where he resided until his death. He served in the Army National Guard for 11 years, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a brother, Norman and wife, Shirley of Long Prairie, MN; sister LuVern Farber and husband Roger of Little Falls; seven nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Harriet.

Casketbearers were John Brutscher, Jerry Januschka, Sharon Farber, John Haberkorn, Mark Lange and Roslyn Mogard.

Harold W. Crawford
Harold W. Crawford, age 88, a resident of the Cambridge Health Care Center in Cambridge, MN, formerly of Swanville, MN, died December 14, 1998, at the Cambridge Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held December 7 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville with Rev. John Grein officiating. Interment was in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Swanville.

Harold W. Crawford was born on October 25, 1910 in Paddock, NE to the late Floyd and Gracy (Haynes) Crawford. He grew up in the Paddock area where he attended country school through the eighth grade. He farmed with his father and was united in marriage to Zelna Rose Henifin on August 10, 1935 in Winner, SD. The couple made their home in Spencer, NE until 1937 when they purchased and moved to a farm in the Lake Beauty area near Swanville. The couple farmed there until their retirement in 1990 at which time they moved to Browerville, MN. In 1994, they moved to the Twin Cities area to be near their children. Zelna died on October 27, 1998. Harold became a resident of the Cambridge Health Care Center in November, 1998 where he resided at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville. He enjoyed gardening, raising horses and whittling diamond willow canes.

Survivors include his son Ty Crawford and wife Carol of Princeton, MN, and Les Crawford and wife Phyllis of East Bethal, MN; daughters, Leota Carlson of Hoyt Lake, MN, and Bonita Zarns and husband, Jim of Isanti, MN; step-mother Thirza Crawford of Verdigre, NE; brothers Veldon Crawford and wife Betty of Douglas, WY, Ronald Crawford of Riverton, WY and Virgil Crawford and wife Mary of Hudson, WY; sisters, Helen Lewis of Cody, WY, Ollie Sheppard and husband Herb of Newport, WA, Clara Truax of Norfolk, NE, VaLaura Tarr and husband Bill of Battle Creek, IA and Velma Cassidy and husband, Ted of San Diego, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Zelna Crawford; parents; brothers Theodore Crawford and Lawrence Crawford; sister Louise Hartland; son-in-law Cyrus Carlson and grandson, Randy Carlson.

Pallbearers were Rockie Carlson, Jeff Crawford, Dan Czech, Kevin Henifin, Keith Henifin and Kris Henifin.

Waldemar Molitor
Waldemar “Wally” Zeno Molitor, age 65, a former resident of Cushing, MN, died December 16, 1998, at his daughter’s home in Rice Lake, WI.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 19 at St. James Catholic Church in Randall with Fr. Al Quade officiating. Burial fol-lowed in the St. James Cemetery.

Waldemar was bom October 3, 1933, at Pearl Lake, MN, son of the late Albert and Magdalena (Brauch) Molitor. On October 12, 1960, he married Lucille Fuchs in Melrose, MN. The couple farmed in Sauk Centre, MN, for 12 years. Then Wally moved his family to Randall, MN, where they lived for the next nine years. During that time, he did security at Pine Grove Park and also worked for the County Highway Department and Landy’s Meatpacking Company. The couple owned and operated Molitor’s Tavern at Cushing, MN, for 18 years and retired this past April. Wally was a charter member of the Randall-Cushing Lions Club and a Cushing Community Club member. He liked music, playing the concertina, hunting and fishing. Through the years, he especially enjoyed visiting with the people he met at his business.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth (Tami) Molitor of Essex Junction, VT, and James (Jolee) Molitor of Rogers, MN; two daughters, Shirley (Michael) Magee of Rice Lake and Donna (Dale) Wippler of Ramsey, MN, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Alfred, Elmer and Ambrose.
