Mary Perlinger
Mary Katherine Perlinger, age 90, a resident of Fort Ripley, MN, died February 26, 1999, at Woodland Good Samaritan Village.
Funeral services were held March 2 at St. Mathias Catholic Church with Father Paul Fruth officiating. Burial was in St. Mathias Cemetery.

Mary was born April 20, 1908, in Minneapolis, MN, to Michael and Katherine (Kirschbaum) Wally. She was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church, St. Mathias Ladies Aid and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed praying the rosary. She never missed a grandchild or great-grandchild’s birthday. She liked to crochet, garden, grow flowers and sew.

Survivors include her husband, Andrew Perlinger; sons, Larry Perlinger of Brainerd, MN, and Gary Perlinger of Waseca, MN; daughters, Margaret Lightner of Brainerd, Ann Namyst of Woodbury, MN, Clara Perlinger of Minneapolis, MN, Elaine Doucette of Winslow, AZ, and Joan Thesing of Fort Ripley; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brothers, John Wally of Little Falls, MN, and Michael Wally of Minneapolis; sisters, Betty Wally of Minneapolis, Marie Kraklau of Brainerd and Ann Whalen of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Gangestad; sisters, Margaret Ryan and Martha Wally and a brother, Frank Wally.

Elma Cowles
Elma C. Cowles, age 86, a resident of Waseca, MN, died February 25, 1999, at her home.
Services were held March 6 at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca with the Rev. Katherine Horn officiating. A spring burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian, MN.

Elma was born January 2, 1913, to Charles and Lilly (Dehn) Sutter in Waterville, MN. She attended country school and Waseca High School. She married Norbert “Bill” Cowles January 1, 1941, at Blooming Grove Methodist Church in Waseca County. They lived in Elysian for a few years before moving to Waseca. She was employed by Brown Printing and J.C. Penney’s in Waseca. They lived in Lake Havasu City and Yuma, AZ, from 1968 to 1996. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 228.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Nancy Krueger of Middleville, MI, Shirley Mittelstaedt and husband Dale of Waseca and Ruth Ann Miller and husband Donald of Burnsville, MN; two sons, Robert and wife Bonnie of Apple Valley, MN, and Art and wife Mary of St. Paul, MN; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandson and seven brothers.

Ann Scheeler
Anne Scheeler, age 83, a resident of Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, MN, formerly of Swanville, MN, died February 25, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial was held March 1 at the Brenny Funeral Home (West Chapel) in Little Falls, MN, with Father Thomas Meyer officiating. Burial was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish Cemetery in Swanville.

Ann was born January 3, 1916, to Mathius and Eva (Truth) Korang in Havlock, ND. She was united in marriage to Raymond John Scheeler on November 5, 1934. They moved to Minnesota in 1956 from Dickenson, ND. Raymond died December 24, 1977. Ann spent most of her life as a homemaker, then in later years worked at the Corner Cafe in Swanville until she retired.

Survivors include sons, Maurice Scheeler and wife Helen of Coon Rapids, Ellsworth Scheeler and wife Barbara of Raymond, MN, and Raymond L. Scheeler and wife Paula of New Florence, MO; daughters, Elvera Gessell and husband Duane of Coon Rapids and Joyce Richwine and David Miller of Becker, MN; sisters, Mary Urlacher of Denver, CO, and Christine Koltes of Hettinger, ND; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; parents; brothers, Frank, Peter, Mike and Nick and sisters, Barbara, Elizabeth and Agnes.

Casketbearers were Mike Scheeler, Bill Gessell, Nick Scheeler, Steve Scheeler, David Scheeler and Will Scheeler.

Honorary casketbearers were Gabriel Richwine, Jordan Scheeler and Tony Shelton.

Mabel E. Zimbrick
Mabel E. Zimbrick, age 102, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died March 4, 1999, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held March 6 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Roland Jennings and Rev. Melvin Lundeen officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.

Mabel Elizabeth Zimbrick was born November 28, 1896, in Forest City, IA to the late Axel and Betty (Aspland) Anderson. At the age of 13, her family moved to the Freedom area where she attended school. After her schooling she worked in Minneapolis for a few years. Mabel was united in marriage to Emil Zimbrick on April 20, 1918, in Little Falls. Following their marriage, Mabel and Emil lived in Brainerd, MN, four years and then moved back to Freedhem where they farmed. In 1952 the couple moved to Little Falls where Mabel worked for a few years at St. Otto’s Care Center. She became a resident of the Alverna Apartments in Little Falls and, in 1995, moved to St. Otto’s Care Center where she resided until her death. Mabel was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Little Falls.

Survivors include her son, Robert and wife, Novella of Brooklyn Center, MN; daughters, Ruth Freeberg of Maple Grove, MN and Betty Setterstrom of Little Falls; ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; brother, Arnold Anderson; sisters, Anna Johnson and Ruth Lindbergh; two sons-in-law and two great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Joe Hoehn, Douglas VanOrsdel, Russ Jongwaard and Gaylan Olson.

Casketbearers were Gene, Keith and Bruce Setterstrom, Brad Hoffman, Devlin Shaw and Lester Michels.

Brian Meldaus
A Memorial Service for Brian Meldaus will be held on Saturday, March 13, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Schad-Patton Funeral Home in Grey Eagle, MN.
A luncheon will follow the service at the Burtrum Community Center in Butrum, MN.

Lawrence Wasner
Lawrence M. Wasner, age 67, a resident of Rice, MN, died November 16, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.

Funeral services were held November 19 at the Dingmann Family Funeral Chapel in Sauk Rapids, MN. Burial was in Langola Cemetery, Rice.

Lawrence Wasner was born July 5, 1931, in St. Cloud to Mathias and Justina (Reisinger) Wasner. He married Minnie Diddens on November 21, 1953, in St. Joseph, MN. He had lived in Rice since 1962. Prior to that he lived in Sartell, MN. He farmed from 1954-1998. He was a former member of Rice American Legion Post 473. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany for one year.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Rice; children, Ronald and Diane Wasner of Westmoreland, TN, Jeanette and Duane Beto of Little Falls, MN, Roger Wasner of Rice, David and Ann Wasner of Rice and Linda Fussy and her special friend Terry of Foley, MN; sister and brothers, Caroline Roering of St. Joseph, Hubert of Holdingford, MN, and Sylvester of Rice; half sister, Mary Schneider of Waite Park, MN; half brother, Celestine Pierskalla of Cold Spring, MN, and 17 grandchildren.

Herbert G. Beseman
Herbert G. “Herb” Beseman, age 74, a resident of Swanville, MN, died November 13, 1998, at his home.

Funeral services were held November 16 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville with Rev. John O. Grein officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Herb Beseman was born April 1, 1924, in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Charles and Mary (Rahn) Beseman. He grew up and attended country school in Culdrum Township. He graduated from the Swanville High school in 1942 and began farming. Herb was united in marriage to Annice M. Dreckman in 1950 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville. The couple farmed in Culdrum Township for 11 years. In 1961, they moved to Upsala where Herb worked as a technician for Consolidated Breeders Service. In 1965, they returned to the Swanville area where Herb worked at Conoco Oil until retiring due to health problems in 1973. The couple has resided in Swanville Township since 1970. Herb enjoyed deer hunting and had not missed deer season for 54 years. He also enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting, fishing, traveling and watching all sports. Herb was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the Swanville Sportsman’s Club.

Survivors include his wife, Annice M. Beseman; daughter, Kathy Hartwig and husband Wayne of Swanville; brother, Lloyd Beseman and wife June of Swanville; sisters, Eleanor Olson of Swanville and Angie Olson of Deer River, MN; three grandchildren, Cari, Brian and Laura Hartwig, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Willie and Ervin Beseman.

Pallbearers were Tom and John Beseman, Doug Welinski, Troy, Jon, Ed and Randy Olson.

Lem Larson
Lem Larson, age 99, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died November 12, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held November 15 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Loren Olson officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Lem Larson was born April 13, 1899, in Little Falls, to the late Bengt and Mary (Joranson) Larson. He grew up and attended school in Little Falls. Upon completing his schooling, Lem began working for Minnesota Power Light in Little Falls and was later transferred to Mobridge, SD. He was united in marriage to Mildred C. Nelson on May 24, 1930, at the Congregational Church in Mobridge. Lem studied accounting in his spare time. In the 1930s, the couple returned to Little Falls where he began working for his brother, Paul, at the Larson Boat Works in the accounting office. In 1942, Lem began working for the U.S. Government as an accountant on building projects for the war effort. The couple lived in Washington, Nebraska, Utah, Montana and Nebraska while working for the U.S. Government, returning to Little Falls in 1944. Lem then worked for the C.L. Nelson Construction Co. as an accountant for three years. In 1947, he returned to the Larson Boats Works and was vice-president of Marketing and Sales until retiring in 1958. Lem enjoyed fishing, playing cards and small game hunting. He was an avid Twins fan and recorded the box score of all the Twins games for over 25 years. Lem was a member of the Little Falls Rotary Club and the Little Falls Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; son, Karl Larson and wife Sharon of Maple Grove, MN; two grandchildren, Kyle Larson and wife Stacy and Kraig Larson; sister-in-law, Lillian Larson of Little Falls; and, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Paul, Roy and David Larson; sisters, Naomi and Ruth Larson and Esther Nelson.

Pallbearers were Daniel Larson, Richard Larson, Bodie Larson, Norman Hansen, Jerry Wiczek and Russell Sod.
