Irene Rudnitski
Irene E. Rudnitski, age 82, a resident of Rice, MN, died January 5, 1999, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held January 9 at SS. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church, Gilman, MN. The Rev. Ray Schulzetenberg officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Irene Rudnitski was born January 17, 1916, in Elmdale, MN, to Thomas and Caroline (Carrollpeka) Selinsky. She married John Rudnitski on November 11, 1940, at SS. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church, Gilman. She graduated from the St. Cloud Teachers’ College in 1937 and taught school in Benton County School District 63. She had lived in rural Benton County all of her married life.

Survivors include her sons and daughters, Norman of Blaine, MN, Carl and Debbie of Blaine, Jacqueline and Robert Preston of Minnetonka, MN, Delrita Rudnitski of St. Cloud, MN, and Leeann and Amde-Michael Habte of Shoreview, MN; sister, Susie Rye of Minneota, MN; brother, Matthew Selinsky of Minneapolis, MN; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John in May, 1968 and brothers, Clarence, Arnold and Carl.

George Thomson
George E. Thomson, age 83, a resident of Motley, MN, died January 5, 1999, at the Greater Staples Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held January 9 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Motley with Fr. Robert Landsberger officiating. Burial followed in the Motley Public Cemetery.

John A. ‘Jack’ Dulude
John A. “Jack” Dulude, age 83, a resident of Plymouth, MN, passed away April 29, 1999.

A memorial service will be held May 2 at 1 p.m. with visitation with the family one hour prior at the Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Avenue S., Edina. Memo-rials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
Dulude was the Superintendent of Schools in Swanville, MN and the Business Administrator at Little Falls Public Schools.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret; children, Robert (Georgia) of MA, Mary (Tom) Milbrandt of Plymouth, John of St. Cloud, MN, and Katherine (Clark) Lamm of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Nancy) and William (Barbara); and a sister-in-law, Marian Brower.

Gerald J. Suess
Gerald J. Suess, age 65, a resident of Hillman, MN, died April 27, 1999, at his home near Hillman in Lee Township, Morrison County, MN.

Funeral services were held on May 1 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman.

Gerald J. Suess was born July 14, 1933 in Buckman, MN, to the late George and Rose (Herung) Suess. He grew up and attended school in Buckman. Following his schooling, Gerald worked for 40 years at NAPCO in Hopkins, MN, until retiring in 1995. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman. He was a drummer, enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, playing cards and gardening.

Survivors include sons and daughters, Larry of Buffalo, MN, Jeff and wife Pamela of St. Louis Park, MN, Mary Kay Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Terry Brausen and financé Bob Dean and Renee Norsten all of Cambridge, MN; brother, Leander Suess of Anoka, MN; sisters, Alvina Knopik and husband George of Little Falls, MN, and Esther Poser of Pierz, MN; companion Diane Sanborn of Hillman; special children, Lisa Poser and husband Brian of Pierz, MN and Gene Sanborn of Hillman; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Gary Suess in 1974; brother, George Suess, Jr.; sister Betty Jutz and grandchildren, Jessica Brausen and Jeff Mark Suess, Jr.

Casketbearers were Ralph and Robin Boros, Robert Suess, Richie Held, Ernie Poser and Bill Sullivan.
Mary Ella Wilken
Mary Ella Wilken, age 81, a resident of Onamia, MN, died April 25, 1999, at the Mille Lacs Hospital in Onamia.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 28 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia with Rev. Raymond Steffes officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mary Ella was born on July 1, 1917, in Princeton, MN, to the late Frank and Margaret (Trabant) Albrecht. In 1921, the family moved to Mudgett Township where she attended country school District #19. She married J. Ross Wilken on October 15, 1941, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia. The couple farmed in Dailey Township, South of Onamia. She also worked at Cohen-Fellman coat manufacturing for several years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Mary was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of the St. Anne’s Society.

Survivors include her son, Bob and wife Ann Wilken of Onamia; brother Joseph Albrecht of Onamia; two grandchildren, Kevin Wilken of Onamia and Tim and wife Dina Tabbert of Pequot Lakes, MN; a great-grandchild, Lexi Jo Tabbert; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Wilken in 1972; daughter Diane Tabbert and son-in-law Bill Tabbert; parents Frank and Margaret Albrecht; infant brother Andrew Albrecht; sisters, Agnes Albrecht, Gertrude Beck, and Ruth Lueck.

James Packert
James P. Packert, age 39, a resident of Pierz, MN, died April 12, 1999 at his home.

Services were held April 16 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Popple Creek, with Rev. Harvey Ehlers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

James Packert was born November 25, 1959, in St. Cloud, MN, to George A. Packert and Betty (Kiekow) Harding. He lived in the St. Cloud area his entire life and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Popple Creek. He was a painter and finisher for Britz Store Equipment in Buckman, MN.

Survivors include son and daughter, Justin and Kristen Packert of Sauk Rapids, MN; mother, Betty Harding of Sauk Rapids; sisters and brothers-in-law Connie and James Stanley of Sauk Rapids, Pat and Curt Smelter of Foley, MN, Kathy and Gerald Jacquemart of Foley, and Linda and Roger Gavanda of Foley; and special companion, Marilyn Girtz of Sauk Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his father, George A. Packert, on January 15, 1982; and stepfather, Don Harding, on January 27, 1998.

Clara A. Petersen
Clara A. Petersen, age 88, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died April 13, 1999 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held April 18 at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Reverend Sanna B. Reinholtzen officiating. Burial was at the Elmdale Lutheran Cemetery.

Clara was born on January 21, 1911, in Swan River Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late George and Mary (Rasmusen) Wolters. She went to school in District 25 for eight grades and boarded in Little Falls for the ninth grade. She was united in marriage to Philip O. Petersen on August 28, 1928 at her home in Swan River Township. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Swan River Township northeast of Elmdale, from 1928 thru 1956. They rented the farm to son James and acquired a hardware store, Petersen Hardware, in Randall, MN. In 1972, she moved to an apartment in Little Falls. She has been a resident of the Lutheran Care Center since January 1994. Clara loved to make quilts. She made them for her family and church missionaries. She loved knitting mittens for everyone. She also enjoyed playing cards and games, especially Scrabble. She was the family historian, keeping scrap books of family events such as kindergarten, graduations, weddings and funerals. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, Ruth Circle, Quilters Circle and V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 1112 of Little Falls.

Survivors include her sons, George Petersen and wife Jean of Little Falls, Otto Petersen and wife Joan of Long Prairie, MN; daughters Leona Soltis and husband Wallace of St. Cloud, MN, Myrna Schrupp and husband Kenneth of Pine River, MN, Selma Glende and husband, Roger of Winona, MN; daughter-in-law Loretta Petersen of Bowlus, MN; brother Noah Wolters and wife Mary Jane of Little Falls; sister-in-law Elsie Nelson of Bowlus, MN; brother Noah Wolters and wife Mary Jane of Little Falls; sister-in-law Elsie Nelson of Bowlus; 31 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Philip in 1968; son James; infant daughter Carol Marie; brothers Hans, Nels, Walter, Christ, Peter and Paul Wolters; sisters Anna Petersen, Lillie Olson, Carrie DeNio; infant grandson Steven Bollin.

Pallbearers were Rick Bollin, Joey Soltis, Bruce Petersen, Keith Petersen, Judith Kaiser and Doreen Volcke.

Laura Gilson
Laura Mae Gilson, age 84, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Fort Ripley died, April 14, 1999 at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held April 17 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN, with Rev. Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Laura Mae Gilson was born February 15, 1915, in St. Mathias, MN, to the late Eugene and Amelia (DeRosier) Magnan. She grew up and attended school in the St. Mathias area. She attended Brainerd Teachers College, graduating from there in 1936. She taught in the Brainerd area school system. She was united in marriage to Joseph Gilson June 27, 1939 in St. Mathias Catholic Church. Joe and Laura purchased a farm in the Fort Ripley area where they raised their 5 children. The couple purchased a home in La Feria, TX in 1978 where they would spend the winter months. Joe and Laura moved to the Alverna Apartments in Little Falls in 1993 where they resided until her death.

Laura was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Belle Prairie, and St. Ann’s Christian Mothers. She enjoyed quilting, dancing, painting, playing cards and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Gilson of Little Falls; sons Allen Gilson and wife Sue of Little Falls, Jerry Gilson and wife Geri of Coon Rapids, MN; daughters Sandy Frasl and husband Bud of Fort Ripley, MN, Joann Mason and husband Tom of St. Paul, MN, Renee Schubel of Brainerd, MN; sisters Anne Soper and Claire Gilson of Los Angeles, CA; Lorraine Wolvert of Brainerd; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Pallbearers were Laura Mae’s grandchildren.

Donald Schwartz
Donald Schwartz, age 51, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died April 9, 1999, at the Mississippi River in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Harold Kost officiating. Burial was at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Eagle Bend, MN.

Donald was born on June 22, 1947, to Walter and Minnie Schwartz at Bertha, MN. He was a very loving, caring, and honest person. Donald loved to fish and dance. The area kids called him the “Candy Man” because he always had a treat for them. Donald worked at Crestliner, the Morrison County Record, drove truck and worked for Rich Brenny.

Survivors include his wife Irene Schwartz of Little Falls; daughters Charlotte, Linda, and Ashley Schwartz, all of Little Falls; step-daughters Pamela Maleski of rural Little Falls and Amy Kohl of Little Falls; step-son Ronnie Block of St. Cloud, MN; brother Maynard Schwartz of Dalbo, MN; sisters Marlys Lindberg of Banning, CA, June Schwartz of Las Vegas, NV, and Shirley Fimon of Clarissa, MN; and grandchildren Bryan Maleski, Joshua Maleski, Lane Holtslander, Heather Kohl, Greg Kohl, and Hailey Allord.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Minnie Schwartz and brother Ronald Schwartz.

Casketbearers were Thomas S. Pryor II, Ronnie Block, Cory Holtslander, Tom Yasgar, Eric Allord, Roger Maleski and Thomas S. Pryor III .
