Russell Lillemoen

Russell Lillemoen, 88, of Wendell, formerly of Windom, died May 30, 2002, at Broen Memorial Home.

Services were held Monday at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Elbow Lake with Rev. Dan Cole officiating.

Interment was at the church cemetery.

Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Russell Lillemoen was born March 11, 1914, to Ralph and Agnetta (Vigen) Lillemoen near the Grant-Otter Tail county line north of Wendell. The oldest of four children, Russell spent the first third of his life working as a farmhard on several area farms, a mechanic for several area shops and a route driver for the Wendell Creamery.

In the early 1950s, he moved to the San Francisco Bay area and in 1954 met and married Ruth Van Gerpen. He worked as an auto mechanic in the Bay area for 24 years while Ruth provided day care to local children.

Russell and Ruth were charter members of a Sons of Norway Lodge in San Mateo, Calif.

In retirement, the couple returned to their roots during the early 1980s, living in Wendell and Windom before moving back to Wendell.

Ruth died in October 2001.

They were members of Rock Prairie Lutheran Church. Russell was also a member of the Wendell Lions Club.

In addition to his wife Ruth, Russell was preceded in death by a sister, Ivydell Koeplin, and a brother, Harvey Lillemoen.

Survivors include his son, Roger (Ellen) Lillemoen of Roseville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; an adopted son, Kenneth of Redwood City, Calif.; a foster son, Bruce (Donna) Balsan of Pensacola, Fla., and their two children; and a brother, Clifford Lillemoen of Spokane, Wash.

Joan Engler

Joan Engler, 67, of Windom died June 1, 2002, at Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom.

Services were held Monday at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with Rev. David McDonald officiating.

Special music was provided by Linda Staples, organist.

Casketbearers were Debbie McCarthy, Diane Severtson, Connie Johlfs, Monica Grunewald, Laurie Bringle and Darla Jurgens.

Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery near Windom.

Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Joan Philippina Sell was born Feb. 4, 1935, to Rudolph and Grace (Pietz) Sell in Windom. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers and later confirmed at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom.

She grew up in rural Windom and received her education from Windom Schools, graduating in 1953.

In 1962, Joan married Eugene Engler at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. The couple lived in Windom, where Joan worked for Mix Bakery, then Fingerhut and finally The Toro Company. She worked at Toro for 14 years before retiring in 1985.

In 2000, Joan became a resident at Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom.

Joan was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce; and a brother, Orvis Sell.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene of Windom; sisters, Leora (Eugene) Cole of North Mankato and Irene (Rodney) Wahl of Fulda; a twin sister, Jean (Phillip) Potter of Shoreview; a brother, LaVerne (Marilyn) Sell of Nevis; and a sister-in-law, Rita Sell of Windom.

Joanne Simonson

Joanne Mary Simonson, 53, of Hayfield, formerly of Windom and Mt. Lake, died June 23, 2002, at St. Mary’s Emergency Room in Rochester.

Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with Rev. Stephan Sandness officiating.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
Czaplewski Family Funeral Home of Hayfield is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Joanne Mary Hildreth was born Aug. 8, 1948, to Dean and Grace (Klinger) Hildreth in Mt. Lake.

She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. degree in business education and went on to work for St. Paul schools and the Walnut Grove School District.

In 1970, Joanne married Neil Simonson in Windom.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, where she was the church secretary for 10 years. She was also a member of Friendship Circle, WELCA and the Hayfield Library board.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Neil Simonson and two sons, Charles Simonson and Theodore Simonson, all of Hayfield; two brothers, James (Retha) Hildreth of Fallbrook, Calif.; and Paul Hildreth of Rosemount; and one sister, Marian (Thomas) Sackett of Wayzata., S.D.

Glenda Miller

Glenda D. Miller, 44, of Delft died June 16, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Rev. John Classen officiating.

Interment will be at Jeffers Cemetery in rural Jeffers.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home in Windom. Visitation will continue Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at the church in Windom.

Olav Hedman

Olav Hedman, 90, of Storden died June 19, 2002, at Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Lamberton.

Services were held Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden with Rev. Alan Buresh officiating.

Special music was provided by Gladys Herding, organist; and Elizabeth Johnson, vocalist.

Casketbearers were Shawn Hedman, Brian Hedman, Tony Cariolano, Peter Meyer, Nathan Olson and Todd Hedman.

Honorary casketbearers were Olav’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter.

Interment was at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Storden.

Olav Lewis Hedman was born July 22, 1911, to Lewis and Sophie (Olson) Hedman in Storden Township of Cottonwood County. He was baptized and later confirmed at Old
Westbrook Lutheran Church in rural Storden. He received his education in District 41 of rural Storden.

In 1933, Olav married Grace Lee in Walnut Grove. They farmed in the Storden area for many years until retiring and moving into Storden in 1973.

For many years, Olav and Grace were members of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church in rural Storden until moving into Storden and becoming members of Bethany Lutheran Church, where Olav served on the church council.

He enjoyed all sports, especially watching the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed mom’s cookies, visiting and his dogs.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Osland, Mildred Looby and Martha Matthews.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Hedman of Storden; children, Patricia Hedman of Coon Rapids, Wallace (Colleen)
Hedman of rural Westbrook, Stephen Hedman of New Hope,
Diane (Marv) Meyer of Richfield and Mary Lynn (Richard) Olson of Roseau; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Edna Nelson of Colorado and Eleanor Skjervold of Columbia Heights.

Irene Kalkbrenner

Irene Kalkbrenner, 70, of Jackson died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at her home in Jackson.

Services were held Thursday at Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home in Windom with Rev. Ed Wenger officiating.
Casketbearers were Douglas Herman, Jeff McDowell, Nathan Voigt, Eugene Herman, Mike Voigt and Chad Voelz.
Honorary casketbearers were all of Irene’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment was at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Windom.

Irene Lacey Jones was born March 5, 1932, to Henry J. and Francis (Schnelle) Jones in Peoria, Ill. She was baptized and confirmed in 1945 at Bird Island Methodist Church. She grew up in Bird Island and received her education in Bird Island Schools.

For many of her working years, Irene worked as a “linen engineer” throughout Minnesota.

In 1995, she moved to Alpha where she began working for Good Samaritan Home in Jackson as a “linen engineer”. In 2000, Irene moved to Jackson and continued to work at Good Samaritan Home.

Irene was very active in the Memorial Gardens at Good Samaritan Home in Jackson. She also loved anything that had to do with owls.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Dearald Jones.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda (Ron) Voigt of Litchfield; four sons, Michael (Karen) Herman of Clodis, Calif., Robert (Betty) Herman of Wilder, Ernest (Sandy) Herman of Bingham Lake and Frank (Chris) Herman of St. Michael; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara (Glenn) Ireland of Sauk Rapids..

Marvin Klapprodt

Marvin Klapprodt, 81, of Windom died July 27, 2002, at his daughter’s home in Mountainair, N.M.

Services were held Monday at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Rev. Stephen Norby officiating.

Special music was provided by Carol Vought, organist; and Rosemary and Jack Greene, vocalists.

Casketbearers were Joel Klapprodt, Jeremy Klapprodt, Joshua Klapprodt, LeNai Klapprodt, Jason Sonnenberg and Eric Nelson.

Honorary casketbearers were LeAnn Walhof, Tara Nelson and Tonia Nelson-Moore.

Interment with military honors provided by Windom American Legion Post 206 was at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.

Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home of Windom was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Marvin Edwin Klapprodt was born Feb. 17, 1921, to Fred and Mary (Remillard) Klapprodt in Humboldt, S.D. He was baptized at an early age in Humboldt and confirmed in Windom in 1938. As a young boy, Marvin moved with his family to Windom and received his education in the Lonesome Valley and Mead Schools

In 1941, he entered the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Maryland and Florida during 4˝ years of service. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Windom.

In 1946, Marvin married Bonnie Wilson at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. The couple farmed in Amo Township for several years before moving north of Bluffton where they continued to farm until the early 1960s.

The family returned to Windom, where Marvin began working as a welder at The Toro Company in Windom until 1983 when he retired.

Marvin and Bonnie spent winters in Texas until 1999.
Marvin enjoyed fishing, hunting pheasant and deer, dancing, playing cards and traveling.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Windom; children: Paul (Phillys) Klapprodt of Arlington, S.D.; Rosemary (Jack) Greene of Mountainair, N.M.; Frederick (Donna) Klapprodt of Keller, Texas; and Marleen Nelson of Westford, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
