Mary Ann Miesen, 76

Mary Ann Miesen died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at the St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, N.D. Visitation will also be held at the church Monday, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday, at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lidgerwood, N.D.

She is survived by her sisters Marcella Miesen, Wahpeton, N.D. and Helen (Robert) Hanson, Denver, Colo.; a brother John (Grace) Miesen, Schertz, Texas; a sister-in-law Mary E. Miesen, Wahpeton, N.D. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter A. and Anna. C. Miesen, and a brother, Mark P. Miesen.

Claude Emmerich, 70

Claude Emmerich, a resident of Coon Rapids, died Sept. 1, 2010.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, at Epiphany Catholic Church in Coon Rapids. Interment was at Epiphany Cemetery.

Claude was the director of the VFW Horseshoe League, an avid softball player and sportsman.

Survivors include his children Christine, Jon (Leigh), Michael and Cynthia (Gary); grandchildren Misha, Madelynn, Cullin, Whitney, Roen and Cal; brothers and sisters Joanne, Don, Tony, Elaine, Lucy, Jackie, Bruce, Al and Larry; also many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sophie and a sister, Gwen Clark.

Memorials preferred.

Barbara Jacobs, 74

Barbara Jean Jacobs, a resident of Little Falls, died Sept. 5, 2010, in Little Falls, after a long battle with cancer.

A funeral service was held Thursday, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Barb was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Waterloo, Iowa, to the late Donald and Charlotte (Stark) Smith. She was united in marriage to Harlin Jacobs July 31, 1955, at the First Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. Five children were born to this marriage. Barb and Harlin lived in many different towns through their married lives finally locating in Little Falls, where they lived until the present time. Barb was a homemaker most of her life, but did work part-time at several places and also volunteered her time generously throughout her life. She was a wonderful baker, making many tasty baked goods along with many beautifully decorated cakes. Barb was known for her cinnamon rolls as well as her ability to put her special touch on everything. Barb knitted many dish cloths which she generously gave away to friends and family. She also had a special gift of visiting with anyone that came into contact with her. Barb was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many.

She is survived by her husband, Harlin Jacobs of Little Falls; daughters Dawn (Dave) Janson of Genola and Dara (Steve) Dulany of Redmond, Ore.; son David (Cathy) Jacobs of Little Falls; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother Russ (Margene) Smith of Waterloo, Iowa.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dyan Jacobs in 1986; and a son, Daryl Jacobs in 1984.

A special thank you to the Coborn Cancer Center for the wonderful care she received on her cancer journey.

William ‘Bill’ Denzen, 88

William “Bill” Denzen, a resident of Little Falls, died Sept. 3, 2010, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls. Interment was in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Little Falls.

William Frank Denzen was born March 18, 1922, in Buckman Township, Morrison County, the son of Peter and Barbara (Druschba) Denzen. He grew up on the family farm in Buckman Township and attended grade school at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Buckman. He was united in marriage to Marion Faust Nov. 22, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. The couple made their home on the family farm for a few years before moving to Little Falls. Bill was employed at Hennepin Paper in Little Falls for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, was an avid Twins and Vikings fan and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marion, of Little Falls; children Terry (Rolly) Bachman of Maple Grove, Jean (Tim) Hines of Avon, Joseph (Jackie Reineking) of Little Falls, Maria (Brian) Kelly of Apple Valley, Amy Denzen of Alexandria, Va., and Bill (Joan) Denzen of Big Lake; daughter-in-law Cindy Denzen of New Hope; sister Emma (Doyle) Wilson of San Clemente, Calif.; grandchildren Tim, Ellen, Jodi, Amanda, Paige, Katie, Jacob, Emma and Matthew; great-grandchildren Zachary and Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Peter; sisters Helen Boltz, Katherine Lochner, Marie (Sr. Virgil) Denzen and Cecilia Otremba.

Marguerite Carlson, 87

Marguerite I. Carlson, a resident of Little Falls, died Aug. 30, 2010, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held Friday, at Living Hope Assembly of God Church in Little Falls, with the Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Marguerite I. Carlson was born March 6, 1923, in Ames, Iowa to the late Joseph and Elisabeth (Vorsten) Alexander. She grew up in Ames and attended school there. Marguerite was united in marriage to Eugene F. Carlson Nov. 9, 1943, in Tacoma, Wash. She enjoyed singing, playing piano and organ, gardening, knitting, crocheting, spending time with family and friends. Marguerite had a deep love of God and family. She was a member of Living Hope Assembly of God Church in Little Falls.

Marguerite is survived by her daughters Marcia Carlson of Beloit, Wis., Karen (Danny) Good of Ames, Iowa, Shirley (Doc) Hildebrant of Little Falls and Rebecca (William) Peterson of Ivoryton, Conn.; sons Charles Carlson of Brooklyn Park, David Carlson of Little Falls, Sheldon Carlson of Little Falls, Joseph Carlson of Little Falls, John Carlson of Cross Lake, Ray Carlson of Brooklyn Park and James Carlson of Chaska; brothers Gregory and James Alexander both of Ames; sister Lois Sovey-Piper of Tacoma, Wash.; 29 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Marguerite was preceded in death by husband Eugene F. Carlson; daughter Pam Bengtson; grandson Jeremy Carlson; and brother Sonny Alexander.

Pallbearers were Charles Carlson, Matt Sufka, Bill Peterson, Eugene Sufka, Ray Carlson and John Carlson.

James R. Thesing, 78

James Thesing, a resident of South Long Lake, passed away Aug. 25, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.

James was born July 12, 1932, in Little Falls, to George and Gladys Thesing and raised in Clough Township, Morrison County. He was joined in marriage July 20, 1953, to Bernadine M. Stavish at Sacred Heart Church in Flensburg. He was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. James enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoring two cylinder tractors. He was a lifelong farmer in Long Lake Township.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadine; children, Sandra (James) Brisk of Little Falls, Sheryl (Darrel) Cronquist of Brainerd, Susan (Stan) Kobiela of Brainerd, Brenda (David) Eschenbacher of Brainerd and Daryl (Gina) Thesing; grandchildren Adam, Luke and Elizabeth Brisk, Chad, Craig and Cory Cronquist, Blake, Brandon and Brooks Kobiela, Aaron, Ashley (Tolle) and Andrew Eschenbacher and Katelyn and Jeremy Thesing; great-grandchildren Logan, Ellie, Jessica, Joshua, Hailey and Carley Cronquist; siblings George (Gert) Thesing, Marie Altrichter, Kathleen (Daniel) Reis, Elizabeth (Clarence) Koering and Roy (Connie) Thesing.

He will be greatly missed by everyone.

Ruth Ann Norton, 69

Ruth Ann Norton was a loving, generous woman whose glorious life ended Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010.

A memorial service was held Friday, at First Lutheran Church at 10 a.m.

Ruthie began her journey of life Sept. 10, 1940, in Randall, as the daughter of William and Clara (Carlson) Regnell. Ruthie was the youngest of eight children and known in the family as “Babe Ruth.” As a child, Ruthie lived on the family farm in Randall and attended District #69 country school in Cluff Township and graduated from high school in Little Falls in 1958. After graduation, Ruthie attended Vera and Dwayne’s School of Hair Design in Minneapolis. Ruthie went on to own and operate Upsala Beauty Salon in Upsala. In her later years, Ruthie was a day care provider in Rice and worked as a waitress at Pine Edge Inn and Jerry’s Supper Club and worked at Coborn’s before retiring in 2001. Ruthie met the love of her life Ken, while she was in high school. They were brought together by Ken’s stylish orange argyle socks. Their love sustained being separated by the U.S. Navy for four years and they married April 4, 1964, at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Little Falls. Ruthie enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading, going to the casino, taking cruises and being with friends and family. Ruthie touched the hearts and lives of the many whose paths she crossed. She was a woman who enjoyed a good time and had a strong belief in working hard.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Ken; daughters Karrie Norton Gorka and Kristy (Patrick) Lapos of Little Falls; grandchildren Richard (Krista) Schwendeman, William Schwendeman, Zebadiah (Jessica) Schwendeman, Mitchell (Lillie) Kersting, MacKenzie Kersting and Georgia Lapos; great-grandchildren Kyler, Benjamin and Klaira Schwendeman, Tiara Schwendeman and Aubrie Kersting; siblings Everett Regnell of Little Falls, Ione Mucha-Bredahl of Kensal, N.D., and Elaine (Edward) Opatz of Rice and special friend Connie Wiseth.

There to greet Ruthie in heaven is her beloved daughter Kelly Norton-Schwendeman; her parents and siblings Robert Regnell, Lyle Regnell, Arnold Regnell and Marlys Mucha-Peil.
