Thomas J. Steinke, 78

Thomas J. Steinke, a resident of Little Falls, died Sept. 28, 2010, at his home in Little Falls, after a two year battle with multiple myeloma.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Falls. Military rites were conducted by the Camp Ripley Honor Guard.

Thomas John Steinke was born in Richmond, Stearns County, April 22, 1932, to the late Joseph and Clara (Borgerding) Steinke. Raised in Eden Valley, he graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1950. Tom attended Dunwoody Institute for one year before serving in the U.S. Navy from May 28, 1951 to May 25, 1956, receiving an honorable discharge. While in the military, Tom received the Navy Occupation Medal and the National Defense Ribbon. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended St. Cloud State University and earned both a bachelor’s and masters degree in industrial technology. He was united in marriage to Ramona Miller, Aug. 29, 1959, at Assumption Parish in Morris. Their marriage would be blessed with five children. He began his teaching career in Grey Eagle, and taught there for three years before joining the faculty at Little Falls Community High School, where he established the first electronics program in the school. He was a past president of Central Minnesota Industrial Arts Association and was honored in 1980 as the State of Minnesota Industrial Arts Teacher of the year. He retired from teaching in 1991, and remained active in the community by serving as president of the Rotary Club, volunteering with “Let’s Go Fishing” and participating in many ways within the community and St. Mary’s Church. Tom loved the Minnesota outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. Tom loved his family and was a wonderful husband, a caring and loving father and grandfather, and he held a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his wife, Ramona; children, Beth (Glenn) Miller of Minnetonka, Mary Steinke of Little Falls, Tom (Marlene) Steinke of Columbia Heights, Joan (Thomas) Vitro of Naperville, Ill. and Will (Lottie) Steinke of Edina; 11 grandchildren, Jack Miller, Anne Miller, Joseph Miller, Juliana Steinke, Henry Steinke, Christopher Vitro, Catherine Vitro, Sarah Vitro, Sofia Vitro, William Steinke Jr. and Greta Steinke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Clara Steinke; siblings, Ernest Steinke, Cecelia Willis, Elizabeth Ruhland, Celestine Steinke, Sister Mary Celeste Steinke, O.S.F., Sister Mary Judith Steinke, O.S.F., Bernadette Mareck, Helen Foster, Catherine Laffin, Bernard Steinke, Joseph Steinke and David Steinke and a grandson, Piter Steinke.

Loyd Nystuen, 81

Loyd Howard Nystuen, of Rice, died Sept. 20, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Graham United Methodist Church, in rural Rice, with the Rev. Suzanne Maki and Rev. Don Mielke officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends and relatives may call one hour prior to the services Friday, at the church.

Loyd was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Newberg, N.D., to Reuben and Alma (Johnson) Nystuen. He married Anna (Zegstroo) Nystuen Jan. 11, 1960.

He is survived by his wife, Anna of Rice; daughters and son, Christina (Darrell) Coggins of Concrete, Wash., Loyd (Karen) Nystuen of Royalton, and Clarisa (Dan) Skudlarek of Rice; brothers, Ken Nystuen of Mt. Vernon, Wash. and Jack Nichol of Spokane Valley, Wash.; sisters, Frances (Bill) Walker of Alger, Wash. and Valdene Stout of Bellingham, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a uncle, Delmar Johnson.

Kenneth Felix, 88

Kenneth “Pat” Felix, a resident of Little Falls, died Sept. 26, 2010, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held Friday, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, with Rev. Blaine MacNeil officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Pat was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Little Falls, to the late Roderick and Mary (Kasper) Felix. He grew up in Little Falls and graduated from Little Falls Community High School in 1940. Pat entered into the U.S Navy in 1942, and served in the Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. St. Louis Cruiser for three years. He served his country proudly and was honorably discharged in 1945, when he returned to Little Falls and began working for Northwest Bell Telephone Co. Pat was transferred to Minneapolis in 1946. to work as an installer and repairman until retiring in 1983. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Anderson Sept. 22, 1962 in Minneapolis. Pat continued to reside in Minneapolis until October 2006, when he relocated to Little Falls. Pat was a member of the American Legion, VFW and 40&8 clubs. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid stamp collector.

Pat is survived by daughter, Sandra (John) Russell of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; brother, Donald Felix of Little Falls; granddaughter, Lynette (Matt) Zimmerman of Derry, Pa.; and great-granddaughters, Alexis and Isabella Zimmerman.

Pat was preceded in death by parents, Roderick and Mary Felix; wife, Marilyn Felix; and brother, Roderick Felix.

Debora Boyce, 58

Debora “Debby” Boyce, a resident of Barstow, Calif., died Sept. 24, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Pierz.

A private family service will be held in California at a later time.

Debora was born Sept. 18, 1952, in Artesia, N.M., to Thomas and Jodie (Roberts) Dillon. She attended high school and a few years of college in California. She was united in marriage to Dennis G. Boyce Nov. 7, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple made their home in Barstow. Debora worked in housekeeping for a number of years for the state veterans home. She enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved the computer and sitting down for a good scary movie and listening to music. Debora was the best mom and wife anyone could have asked for. She lived life like she was dancing as if no one was watching. She loved her family with everything she had. She will always, be in our hearts and memories. “Mom we will never stop thinking of you.”

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dennis; children, Jason Boyce and wife Samantha, Brandy McCutcheon and April McCutcheon; mother Jodie Caudle; siblings, Ted Dillon and wife Sandy, David Dillon and wife Terry and Rodney Bloomer; grandchildren, Justice, Hailee, Samantha, Jake, Darian, Natchell, Kristen and Camron.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Dillon and sister, Tonya Parker.

LeRoy J. Waninger, 79

LeRoy J. Waninger, a resident of Pierz, died Sept. 20, 2010, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup.

LeRoy J. Waninger was born June 23, 1931, in Morrison County, to the late Frank and Gesela (Voelker) Waninger. He was united in marriage to Karolyn Heigl Sept. 7, 1963, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman. LeRoy lived and farmed all his life in Platte Township. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup. LeRoy enjoyed playing cards, especially whist and smear, reading the newspaper, going for rides, work horses, deer hunting and spending time with his grandson, Ben.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karolyn Waninger of Pierz; children, Michelle Froelich and husband, Donald of Pierz, Clyde Waninger and wife, Kathy of St. Cloud; and grandson, Ben Froelich of Pierz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Evelyn Fiedler, 94

Evelyn Catherine Fiedler, a resident of Little Falls, died Sept. 16, 2010, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, with the Rev. Nicholas Landsberger and the Rev. Kenneth Popp officiating. Burial was in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery in Mayhew Lake.

Evelyn was born Nov. 19, 1915, to Peter and Mary (Mathieu) Schreifels on a farm three miles south of Cold Spring. Later, the family moved into the town of Cold Spring where she attended school until the 10th grade. A farm near Mayhew Lake was the next move for the family. Evelyn was united in marriage to Henry Leopold Fiedler Nov. 3, 1938, a rainy day in Mayhew Lake. The young couple farmed near Rice. In 1946, they settled on a farmstead north of Pierz, where they lived for 12 years. They moved their family to Little Falls, in 1958, when Henry became a partner in the John Deere Implement dealership. In 1961, they started Fiedler Cesspool Pumping. Evelyn provided the office and bookkeeping support for the business during the 18 years of ownership. They retired to Rice and lived there for 15 years before moving back to Little Falls. Evelyn was the gentle loving matriarch of the Fiedler family. She was a talented, prolific quilter and needle worker, who also enjoyed reading, traveling, genealogy, playing “500,” and especially spending time with family and friends. Evelyn was a member of the Christian Mothers and had a unfailing faith in her church.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Dorothy (Gerald) Johnson of Superior, Wis., Shirley Moen of Bloomington, Donald (Jacklyn) Fiedler of Pierz, David (Carol) Fiedler of Buffalo, Mary (Carl) Peters of St. Louis Park, Gerald (Dorothy Bachan) Fiedler of Little Falls, Phyllis (Jerold) Feia of Little Falls and Wanda Moen of Bloomington; grandchildren, Michael Johnson, David Johnson; Robert Moen; Scott Fiedler, Lucas Fiedler, Jessica Fiedler; Sister Redempta Fiedler, Jenny (Fiedler) Davenport, Molly (Fiedler) Lamb; Kimberly Lichy; Anthony Feia, Holly (Feia) Beers, Kendall Feia, Kelly (Feia) Bjerkaas; Gina Moen; great-grandchildren, Bradley Johnson, Zachary Johnson; Brian Johnson, Victoria Johnson; Rachel Moen, Ryan Moen; Benjamin Fiedler, Sara Fiedler; Leoria Davenport; Brenden Lamb; Katlynn McPhee, Tyler McPhee; Kaleb Feia, Allison Feia; Noah Beers; Madeline Moen; brothers, Sylvan (Elizabeth) Schreifels and Eldred (Clara) Schreifels: sisters-in-law, Alice Schreifels and Veronica “Fronie” Voigt. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry L. Fiedler (Nov. 14, 2004); brother, Alex Schreifels; sisters-in-law, Eileen Schreifels and Dorothy Schreifels; infant son, John and a grandson, Stephen Johnson.

Julius Rebischke, 94

Julius O. Rebischke, a resident of Little Falls, formerly of Randall, died Sept. 22, 2010, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Glen Leaf officiating. Burial will be in the Randall City Cemetery in Randall. Military Rites will be conducted by the Randall VFW Post #9073. Visitation will be 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Julius was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Randall, to the late August and Agnes (Patzke) Rebischke. He was united in marriage to Mary Josephine Fuller Oct. 8, 1951, in New Hampton, Iowa. Julius was a loving husband and father. He was a proud member of the United States Army and served in World War II and was a member of VFW Post #9073 in Randall. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Parker Township, Morrison County, retiring in 1968 and then moving to Randall. In 2002, the couple moved to Little Falls because of health issues. Julius was a Parker Township assessor for about 30 years. He enjoyed working with farm animals, country drives, carpentry, gardening, wood crafting, fishing, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with family and friends. He loved to tease loved ones, which could be detected by his quirky grin and twinkle in his eyes. We shall miss him.

Julius is survived by his daughters Katherine Wray of Little Falls and Helen (Larry) Mohr of Chaska; brother Herman Rebischke of Minneapolis; and sister Elfrieda Brown of Tacoma, WA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; parents August and Agnes Rebischke; brothers Herbert, August, Edward, Roland and Kurt; and sisters Alma and Hulda.

Casketbearers will be his nephews Marvin Kriefall, Michael Gohl, Dennis Rebischke, Gary Rebischke and Roger Rebischke.
