Anna Howard
Anna Mae Howard, 77, died on April 19, 2006 at her home in Fairmont.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Fairmont with Rev. Dan Fullerton officiating.
Interment was held Monday, at Assembly Area #4 in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Special music was provided by Harriet Tromanhauser, pianist and Glendon Olson, soloist.
Honorary bearers were Beth Slettedahl, Brenda Evans, Paul Slettedahl, Joel Evans, Cheryl Engeman and Nancy L. Engeman.
Casket bearers were Rob Engeman, Larry Engeman, Steve Sterling, Jim Engeman, Chuck Engeman and Dan Engeman.

Anna Mae Eleanore Moldestad was born May 25, 1928 to Abraham and Jennie (Lyslo) Moldestad in Delhi. She was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Belview. She attended and later graduated from Delhi High School in 1946. She went to Mankato State Teacher College and taught school in Beaver Falls rural school. While there she met Robert Engeman and they were married in Belview on September 5, 1948. They lived in the Redwood Falls area; Mt. Lake; and Armstrong, Ia. Anna Mae moved to Fairmont after Robert’s death on June 8, 1986.
She married Harvey Howard Sr. on July 27, 1991. He died on February 18, 2003.
She was a member of Fairmont Covenant Church and was active in many of their activities. Anna worked part time as a demonstrator at Hy-Vee, the Good News Bookstore and as a substitute crossing guard for the Fairmont Schools.
She enjoyed her large family, the Single Again Group, the autobiography group, writing poems, stories and being with her family.
Survivors include her six sons, Robert (Rob) Engeman and his fiancee, Cathy Ball of Mankato, Steven (Adrianna) Sterling of Dallas, Tex., Charles (Cheryl) Engeman of Brunswick, Ohio, Larry (Nancy) Engeman of Stockton, Mo., James Engeman of Winona and Daniel (Tammy) Engeman of Fairmont; two daughters, Beth Anne (Paul) Slettedahl of Wood Lake and Brenda Jean (Joel) Evans of Swea City, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Thompson of Murdock; two brothers, Arthur (Eunice) Moldestad of Redwood Falls, and Oliver (Eunice) Moldestad of Belview; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Sapp of Kansas City, Mo., and Marjorie Bushey of Minneapolis.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Robert Engeman and Harvey Howard Sr.; an infant daughter, Susanne Beth and infant son, Benjamin Paul; two brothers-in-law, Robert Bushey and Thorvald Thompson, and other relatives and friends.
Anna’s family prefers memorial to FCH Hospice, Covenant Building Fund, Current Seed Faith Fund and Salvation Army, in lieuof flowers.

Walter "Mike" Freitag
Walter J. “Mike” Freitag, 76, of Mt. Lake, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Windom Area Hospital in Windom.
Services were held Saturday at Community Bible Church in Mt. Lake with Pastor Darren Rempel officiating.
Interment was at the Mt. Lake Cemetery, with military honors by the Mt. Lake American Legion Post #389.
Arrangements were with Bjerum Funeral Home of Mt. Lake.

Walter J. “Mike” Freitag, the son of August and Louise (Tschetter) Freitag was born May 26, 1929, in Mt. Lake. He grew up on a farm south of Mt. Lake, where he attended country school. He loved being a farm boy, catching gophers, hunting and working hard.
On July 20, 1949, he married Edna Mae Menken. To this union four children where born — Steven, William, Debra and Bradley.
Mike served 18 months in the Army National Guard during the Korean War. When he was discharged, he went to work for George Rempel, a construction contractor in Mt. Lake.
In 1961, they moved to a farm on the north edge of Mt. Lake, where he also began his construction company. He retired at the age of 65. Mike had many hobbies, including gardening, woodcarving and woodworking, playing polkas on his concertina, and landscaping — building a rock garden and a brick gazebo for their home. He took pride in his brick laying. What he loved most were family picnics, pot lucks and teasing his grandchildren.
Mike was a builder not only of homes, schools and churches, but he also built a legacy of honesty and hard work that he passed on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Walter “Mike” gave his heart to the Lord in 2000. During the last year of his life, Mike enjoyed worship and fellowship at the Community Bible Church in Mt. Lake.
Survivors include his wife Edna Freitag of Mt. Lake; three children, William (Kirsten) Freitag of St. James, Debra (Rory) Cannon of Park Falls, Wis., and Bradley (Tamara) Freitag of Mt. Lake; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Freitag of Fairmont; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Minnie Paulson of Mt. Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Michael Freitag; a granddaughter, Sadie Mae Jane Freitag; a brother, Donald Freitag; and a sister, Luetta Falk.

John Teske
John Teske, age 84 of Fargo, N. D., formerly of Washburn, N. D., died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at his home in Fargo.
Funeral Services will be held today (Wednesday, April 26, 2006) at Washburn Baptist Church in Washburn, the Rev. Rick Torkelson officiating
Interment will be in the Mennonite Zion Cemetery in rural Arena, N. D.
John H. Teske was born March 24, 1922 in Mt. Lake, the son of Benjamin and Katherine (Wall) Teske, and attended rural school near Mountain Lake. John worked as a farm laborer in the area until 1957. He married Burnette Deckert on November 14, 1952. In 1957, they moved to Arena to live near Burnette’s family.
In 1959, they moved to Falkirk, N. D. where he worked as a farmhand. In 1963, they moved to Washburn. John was employed as a mechanic for the Standard and Amoco stations, as a custodian for the McLean County Courthouse, and operated his own business, John’s Lawn Care. He also did tree removal and load hauling.
In 2004, John and Burnette moved to Fargo to be closer to some of their children. John enjoyed reading, visiting with friends at Washburn café’s, and making wooden lawn ornaments.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Burnette Teske of Fargo; five children, Sidney (Karen) Teske of Minneapolis, Jenise Teske of Minneapolis, and Colleen Teske, Trent (Lisa) Teske and Dan (Bon) Teske, all of Fargo; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one nephew and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Faulk and Esther Teske.

Arnold Wall
Arnold Wall, 83, of Mt. Lake, died on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006 at his home in rural Mt. Lake.
Services were held Friday, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey, with Rev. James Lindgren officiating.
Interment was at the Springfield City Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home of Comfrey.

Arnold Clifford Wall was born March 18, 1923, to Oscar and Helga (Linde) Wall in Swift County, near Pennock. He attended school through the eighth grade in Pennock while living with his eldest sister Esther and her husband Walter Magnuson.
Arnold was baptized on October 14, 1923. In 1936 he stayed home in Comfrey, and on May 9, 1937 he was confirmed in his Christian faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Comfrey. In 1940, Arnold went to work as a carpenter for his brother-in-law John Nagle in Morris.
At the age of 19 (winter of 1942), he was inducted into the U.S. Army. Arnold served in the European Theater in Patton’s 3rd Army and received five battle stars. He was part of the first wave landing at Normandy. He returned home on December 3, 1945.
On April 10, 1947, Arnold married Clara Evers at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey. They farmed the Ed Wing farm north of Comfrey for six years. Arnie attended Vets Ag classes in Mt. Lake.
In 1953, they purchased their farm in rural Mt. Lake, where they have resided ever since.
Arnie loved farming and was honored as one of the top Minnesota hog producers in 1953. Arnie and Clara were active 4-H leaders for many years. They helped their children with many 4-H and FFA projects. They retired from farming in 1976. Arnold loved the outdoors — fishing, hunting and ice fishing. They took many fishing trips with family, including five trips to Alaska. Arnie loved having his grandkids visit the farm.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years Clara Wall of Mt. Lake; two sons, Robert (Marci) Wall of Eagle River, Ark., and Ronald (Nina) Wall of Dassel; two daughters, LaDonna Olson of North Branch, and Carol (Jerry) Booth of Ramsey; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Evers of Comfrey; a brother, Harold (Emma) of Balaton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Ronald Olson; a grandson, Jonathan Olson; four brothers, Walter, Arthur, Irvin and Marvin Wall; and three sisters, Ada Olson, Esther Magnuson and Clara Nagle.

Menno Schroeder
Menno Schroeder, 88, of Mt. Lake, died April 23, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake with Rev. George O’Reilly officiating.
Interment will be at the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Cemetery in Mt. Lake.
Arrangements are with Bjerum Funeral Home in Mt. Lake.

Menno David Schroeder, the son of David H. and Helena (Peters) Schroeder was born on February 6, 1918, in Carson Township, Cottonwood County. He received his education at Crossroads Country School, District #69, near his home, and having always wished for more education, Menno worked crossword puzzles and read daily newspapers.
On May 16, 1937, Menno was baptized upon confession of his faith and received as a member of Bethel Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake, where he remained an active lifelong member.
On June 15, 1943, he married Esther Elma Ratzlaff, and they made their home on Menno’s home farm, where he was a dairy, poultry and grain farmer. Esther died on October 25, 1950.
On July 8, 1951, Menno married Jean Marjorie Harms in Whitewater, Kan. They continued to make their home on the farm until moving into Mt. Lake, in 1974. After leaving the farm, Menno worked at the Gamble’s store and at Balzer Manufacturing.
Menno was a devoted husband, taking on household chores and caring for his wife as her health began deteriorating early in their marriage.
Menno struggled with many health issues, and in 1996, he and Jean moved to the Parkwood Place Apartments. Menno served in his church by singing in the men’s chorus, as a member of the church council, as Sunday school secretary and helping with Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) relief. He also served on the Co-op Creamery Board of Directors.
He liked working with wood. With simple power tools he built various knickknacks for his grandchildren and wishing wells for each of his children. Earlier this year Menno was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, which severely diminished his strength.
Menno is survived by his wife, Jean Schroeder of Mt. Lake; four children, Richard (Theora) Schroeder of Lakewood, Colo., Marilyn (Jay) Franz of Windom, Allen (Janice) Schroeder of Mt. Lake, and Donna (Ron) Neufeld of Mt. Lake; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline (Raymond) Balzer of Whitewater, Kan., and Edna (John) Nickel of Mt. Lake; and a sister-in-law, Glendeen Schroeder of Mountain Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Esther (Ratzlaff) Schroeder; a brother, Robert Schroeder; and a sister, Louise Balzer.

Melvin Wolle
Melvin Wolle, 83, of Darfur, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom.
Funeral services were held Saturday, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Darfur with Pastor Troy Jacobs officiating.
Burial followed at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Darfur.
Funeral arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home of St. James.

Melvin Carl Wolle was born December 31, 1922 on the Boynton Ranch, west of Truman, to parents Henry and Eva (Urban) Wolle.
He was baptized and confirmed into the W.E.L. Faith. He attended parochial school at St. Paul’s in St. James. On December 19, 1953 he married Ilah Koenig at Sioux Falls, S.,D. Melvin farmed his entire life. He retired in 1991 and moved to Darfur.
He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed putting together puzzles, playing cards, and tending his garden and flowers. He also enjoyed mowing the grass and keeping up the cemetery and church lawns for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters Ilah Jane Henze and Nancy Parsons; son Jerry Flaming; granddaughter Brandi Flaming; brothers Martin, Julius and Wilmar; and sisters Helen and Esther.
Survivors include his wife Ilah Wolle of Darfur; sons Donald (Barb) Wolle of Lake Crystal, Doug (Shirley) Wolle of Darfur, Charles (Charlene) Wolle of Mt. Lake, James (Carol) Flaming of Mt. Lake and Rodger Flaming of LaMesa, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; son-in-laws Dale Parsons of Wisconsin, and Harvey Henze of South Dakota; sisters Eldora Froslan of Tempe, Ariz., and Wilma Anacker of Darfur; sister-in-laws Cecelia Wolle of St. James and Donna Wolle of Millwauke, Wis.
