Mary Ann Bell
Mary Ann (Trelstad) Bell, 59, St. Paul, died Friday, May 21, 1999 at home of cancer.

She was born Feb. 7, 1940, to Art and Myrtle (Magnuson) Trelstad. She grew up in the Spring Garden area.

She is survived by her husband, Ron; son LeRoy (Donna) Prine, Omaha, NE; stepchildren Duane Bell, California, and Cheryl (Rick) Ellingson, Hugo; 12 grandchildren and step grandchildren; brothers Arlen (Carol), Montrose, IA, and Mel (Nancy), Red Wing, and many loving friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 27, at 11 a.m., at Hope Lutheran Church, 1340 North Hazel, St. Paul. Pastor Conrad Warren will officiate. Memorials are preferred to hospice.

Olive Krueger

Olive Krueger, 82, Waconia, formerly of the Dennison area, died Friday morning, February 26, 1999 at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

Constance Olive Shirley Svien Krueger was born on September 11, 1916 in Dennison, to Olaus J. and Carrie Bestul Svien. She was baptized and confirmed at Vang Lutheran Church. Olive attended elementary school in Dennison before going to school in Kenyon for a few years, then graduated from Northfield High School. After graduation, she attended St. Olaf College in Northfield for two years then went on to the Pepin School of Fashion in Minneapolis. On December 16, 1939 she was united in marriage to Roger Krueger at Vang Lutheran Church. They lived in LaCrosse, WI, in the early 1940s, moved to Bismarck, ND, later moved to St. Cloud, where they lived for 17 years. After St. Cloud they lived in New Richmond, WI, and Faribault before moving to Waconia.

With her love for fashion, Olive worked as a clothing model for various clothing stores. Included in her love for fashion, was a passion for hats. While living in LaCrosse she operated a Hat Shop which was connected to the Three Sisters Store.

Olive loved her husband, children, sons-in-law, grandchildren and also was an animal lover. She was ahead of her time as she taught her children the value of an education and how to be free thinkers.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Roger, of Waconia; five children, Karen Messmer (Charles) of Scottsdale, AZ, Kris McGlathery of Dallas, TX, Kathy Gilkey (Robb) of Montevideo, Pete Krueger of Minneapolis and Dede Rose (Roger) of Waconia; three grandchildren, Leah Messmer of San Diego, CA, Nate and Marit Gilkey of Montevideo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hendrick J. Svien, sister Marion Mogren and one son in infancy.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 1 at Vang Lutheran Church with The Rev. Gerry Gengenbach officiating. Interment was at Vang Lutheran Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Pete Krueger, Nate Gilkey, Charles Messmer, Roger Rose, Robb Gilkey and Rik Svien.

Sally Ziemer
Sally Lee Ziemer, 47, Randolph, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 26, 1999 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

She was born on April 19, 1951 in Farmington, the daughter of DeWayne Ernest and Dorothy May (Ehrky) Ziemer. Sally grew up in Randolph and attended school in Cannon Falls.

Sally was employed by Grist Mill in Lakeville since August.

Taking care of her grandkids was her main interest. She was willing to help out anyone who needed it. Sally looked at people from their beauty within, and not from their outside appearance.

She liked "Oldies Rock & Roll," and was a big Elvis fan. Sally had been to Memphis, TN to visit Graceland. She enjoyed ceramics, especially ceramic unicorns.

She is survived by two daughters, Tyra Ziemer of Cannon Falls and Rebecca Ziemer of Randolph; two grandchildren, Dustin and Austin; stepmother Teri Ziemer of Randolph; brother Earl (Peggy) of Welch; sister Michelle Ziemer of Randolph; two nephews, James Ziemer of Randolph and Roger Ziemer of Welch; niece Roxanne Ziemer of Welch, and many aunts and uncles.

Preceding her in death was an infant son, Jackie A., and her parents.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 2 at the Church of Christ in Cannon Falls with Pastor Kenneth Larsen officiating. Burial was at the Lakeside Cemetery in Randolph.

Memorials are preferred.

Pallbearers were Jon Ziemer, Roger Ziemer, James Ziemer, Antonio Carter, Ronny Nygaard and Danny Duncan.

Sally will be sadly missed by her many friends and family.

Arrangements by Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.

Susan Thurmes
Susan A. Thurmes, 88, died Thurs., Feb. 25, 1999, at Regina Nursing Home in Hastings, where she had resided the last six years.

She was born Nov. 23, 1910 in New Trier, the daughter of Mathias and Anna Reinardy. She attended New Trier school, and married Henry Thurmes in 1930. They lived in Hampton, where Henry was a carpenter and Susan a homemaker, assistant mail carrier and clerk in the Hastings Coast to Coast store. Henry died in 1962.

She is survived by three sons, Myron of Hampton, Eugene of Farmington and Gerald of Fargo, ND; three sisters, Kate Thurmes of Hampton, Dora Kasel of Vermillion and Lucy Ashbaucher of Hastings; sister-in-law, Francis Reinardy of Hastings; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, and one infant son.

Funeral services were held Sat., Feb. 27, at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Hampton, Rev. Fr. Valerius Messerich officiating. Interment was in St. Mathias Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dan, Gene, Mark, Peter, Jim and Patrick Thurmes. Honorary pallbearers were Florence Giefer, Madeline Giefer, Donna Trenary, Lee Endres, Pat Thorsen and Irene Nicolai. Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marie Sunderman
Marie Doris Sunderman, 85, Covington, Ohio, died Tues., Jan. 23, 1999, at the medical center in Troy, Ohio.

She was born Jan. 23, 1914, in West Hope, Ohio, daughter of Herman and Dora Sunderman. She attended St. Johns Lutheran School in Freedom Twp. and was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Covington.

Marie was employed as a private home caregiver, at Sharpes Nursing Home in Napoleon, OH, and at the Campbell Soup Co. in Napoleon.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Florence Sunderman, Dennison, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and James Wenzl, Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister, Mela Norden, Avilla, IN; brother, Herman Sunderman, Napoleon, OH. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ferd; four sisters, Ida Rohrs, Emma Norden, Dora Otte and Ella Kruse.

Funeral services were held Fri., Feb. 26, at Pearson-Jackson Funeral Home in Covington. Burial was in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Memorials are preferred to the St. Johns Lutheran Church Stephan Ministry Fund.

Elven Nelson
Elven Nelson, 86, New Brighton, and formerly of Cannon Falls, died on Feb. 26, 1999.

Elven and his wife Helen moved to Cannon Falls in 1962, when they bought the Dairy Queen. They went independent in 1965, renamed the restaurant the Dairy Inn, and ran it for 14 more years.

They retired in 1978. He was active in the Commercial Club, and a member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church. He was active in the senior citizens group and was a past president.

They moved to New Brighton in 1986 and Helen died in 1988. Elven later moved in with his daughter, Kay, and her husband.

He died at a New Brighton hospital Friday after a brief illness.

He is survived by two daughters, Kay (Gene) Christenson, and Nita Nelson; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Monday, March 1, at Bricelyn Lutheran Church, Bricelyn, MN, and Tuesday, March 2, at Atonement Lutheran Church, New Brighton.

Bill Honecker

William "Bill" Mark Honecker, 55, Wasioja, in rural Dodge Center, died on Thursday morning, March 18, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, due to heart and lung failure with a complication of pneumonia.

Bill was born in Minneapolis on October 27, 1943 to Frank and Mary (Miles) Honecker. At age 12, he became a foster child of Ed and Clara Esterby of rural Wanamingo. He graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1962 and served in the Army National Guard from June 1962 through April 1970. He also worked in the Wanamingo area for the Bombay Elevator.

Bill was united in marriage to Diane Galbraith on October 19, 1969 in Montezuma, IA. To this union, three children were born and raised in Wasioja. He was a 30 year employee of IBM Rochester, retiring in April of 1997. Following his retirement, he was a bus driver of RSB Coaches in Rochester. Most recently he was a milk hauler for Hernke Transfer in Cannon Falls. Bill became ill in January, 1999.

He was a member of the Urland Lutheran Church in rural Cannon Falls, the Kasson American Legion Post, as well as a supporter of the Lowell Lundstrom Ministry and Crystal Cathedral Ministries. He was a very faithful supporter of his family's hopes and dreams and enjoyed his collection of toys. His fascination of airplanes brought him to his wife who was a stewardess for Ozark on a flight to St. Louis in 1968.

He was preceded in death by his father; one sister; and his foster father. He is survived by his wife, Diane of Montezuma, living at the Galbraith farm they recently purchased; three children, Mark of Wasioja, Avin (fiancé Brad Sherman) of Winona and Aaron at graduate school in Ames; his mother, Mary; foster mother, Clara Esterby; brother, David; and twin sisters, Jeanne Worley and Jayne Kastiro.

A memorial service was held on Monday, March 22 at Urland Lutheran Church, with Pastor Scott McLaughlin officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date at the Sheeley Cemetery of rural Montezuma in the center of their farm.
