Gloria Skog
Gloria Maxine Skog, 62, Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday afternoon, April 6, 1999 at the Fairview-University Hospital, Minneapolis.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Phillip Ruud officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.

William May Sr.
William N. May Sr., 93, Vermillion, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Regina Medical Center, Hastings.

He was born Dec. 21, 1905, in Castle Rock Township, the son of Margaret and Peter May. He was a self-employed farmer and was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Aid Association.

He is survived by a daughter, Celine (Chuck) Faber, Perham; son, William (Anita) May Jr., Farmington; sisters, Rose Doffing and Marie (Greg) Wollmering, Hastings, and Delores Kimmes, Cannon Falls; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; foster son Daniel Smith, brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 5, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Vermillion. Burial was in St. Mathias Cemetery, Hampton.

Pallbearers were Joe May, David Kimmes, Jim May, Mindaugas Bubliauskas, Kenneth Lorentz, James Wollmering, William Lorentz and Eugene Kimmes. Honorary pallbearers were Bernard Moes, Vincent Rother, Gregory Rother, Clarence Rother, Joyce Lankow, Mary Jane Sickler, Norbert Kuhn, Allen Hoffman, James Cysiewski, Peter Marschall, George Brockman Jr., and Clarence Schwegman.

Mathilda Ludwig
Mathilda C. Ludwig, 93, Farmington, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Ebenezer Ridges Care Center.

She was born June 20, 1905, the daughter of Catherine and John Pasch. Mathilda was a homemaker, and she loved gardening, quilting and collecting sea shells. She was a longtime member of St. Anne's Society of Vermillion and St. Therese's Society of New Trier.

Survivors include a son, Donald (Jane) Ludwig, Cannon Falls; daughters, Mary (Lawrence) Brockman, Farmington, and Luella Leifeld, Hastings; sons, Hubert (Susan) Ludwig, and Nick Ludwig, both of Farmington; daughter-in-law, Lois Ludwig, Red Wing; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Ludwig; son, John Ludwig; brothers, Henry, John, Phillip, Peter, Math and Casper Pasch; sister, Katherine Moes.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Vermillion. Interment was in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery, Hastings. Pallbearers were Grant Leifeld, Richard Jensen, Francis Ludwig, Richard Ludwig, Robert Brockman and Gerald Brockman.

Michelle Classen

Michelle Marie Classen, 39, Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 29, 1998 at her home.

Beloved wife of James Classen and precious mother of twin daughters Sara and Amy; beloved daughter of Vernelle Varno of Minneapolis; cherished sister to Mark and Mona Varno of California, Greg and Marilyn Varno of New Brighton, Sheila and Ron Glocke of Belle Plaine, Brian and Denise Varno of New Mexico and Renee and Tim Turgeon of Richfield; dearly loved daughter-in-law to Donald and Dorine Classen of Richfield; and sister-in-law to John, Jerry and Joe Classen and Ellen Dotson, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father Roy Varno and a few close friends and relatives who all walk together now in heaven.

She was born on February 28, 1959 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Roy and Vernelle (Franson) Varno. Originally from South Minneapolis and a graduate of Southwest High School, Michelle and her family moved to Cannon Falls in 1988. She was a 10-year employee of Kid Duds, Inc. Her professional style and heart-warming personality won her the respect of her industry as well as many, many friends throughout the community. From her loving family to all her friends from Cannon Falls and the Twin Cities, she will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls with Pastor Dean Lundgren officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Mark, Greg and Brian Varno, John and Joe Classen and Mark Kapala.

Connie Grisim
Constance Raphael "Connie" Grisim, 59, Cannon Falls, died on Saturday, August 29, 1998, at her home.

She was born on December 28, 1938 in Red Wing, the daughter of Conrad and Mildred (Anderson) Rapp.

Connie recently retired from Cenex after 23 years of employment. She was happy to be a part of the Vasa Lutheran Church, and to be active at the Stonehouse and Our Lady of the Angels Care Center. She was always there to offer a ride to anyone who needed one.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by five children, Shelley (Tom) Nygaard, Rodd (Cindy) Wangen, Cory Wangen, Jody Wangen and Jason Grisim; grandchildren Andy and Wade Nygaard, Samantha Bradley, Jacob Bottoms and Anna Wangen; three sisters, Nancy (Bruce) Faacks, Andrea (Nick) Weis and Susan (Gerald) Clare; two brothers, Conrad Jr. (Joyce) Rapp and Todd (Amy) Rapp; and many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Vasa Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Dobbins officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.

Memorials are preferred to the Vasa Lutheran Church, the Stonehouse and Our Lady of the Angels Care Center.

Pallbearers will be Rodd and Cory Wangen, Jason Grisim, Tom and Andy Nygaard, Conrad Rapp Jr. and Todd Rapp.

Allen G. Ward

Allen Gordon Ward, 82, died on August 23, 1998, at the Dilley Unit in Northfield.

He was born on April 20, 1916 in Valley, Nebraska, son of Allen W. Ward, Sr. and Agnes Sheen.

They moved to Avon, N.Y. and lived there nine years. Then they moved to Farmingdale, S.D. where Allen attended public school, and Farmingdale became their home thereafter.

Allen graduated from high school in New Underwood, S.D. He worked several years in Minneapolis making building transformers for the war effort.

He married Agnes Sudinski on June 30, 1946 at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis. After taking radio repair training in Omaha, Nebraska in 1948, he opened Ward's Radio Service in Cannon Falls in the fall of 1949 which lasted 38 years.

His great hobby was amateur radio. He talked with people in many parts of the world such as, Sweden, France, Germany, and many other countries. After several strokes, Allen's home became the Dilley Unit in Northfield.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes, of 52 years, many members of her family, and many friends.

A memorial service was held at St. Pius V Catholic Church on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. with Fr. David Shannon officiating.

He was laid to rest in the church cemetery in Cannon Falls.
