Diana Jezewski

Diana J. Jezewski, age 20, of St. Paul, MN died on May 20, 1999 after her courageous 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. She was a graduate of Highland Park High School and Captain of the volleyball team.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Eugene Jezewski, Agnes Barry and Roy Curtis and special great-aunt, Evelyn Weickert.

Survivors include her parents, Gary and Deb; sister, Kristi and brothers, Brian (Kayla) Logan and Matthew. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, other relatives and special friend Joey "Mr. Joe" to those who didn't know him.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, St. Paul. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery with arrangements by the O'Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home, St. Paul.

Memorials preferred to CCRF (Children's Cancer Research Fund) U of M.

Josephine Bond

Josephine Sydney Bond died Friday, May 14, 1999, at her home in Leavenworth, at 87 years of age.

She was born February 10, 1912 in Leavenworth, the daughter of Joseph and Gertrude Edgell Biltz.

She married Harry John Bond on May 27, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1978.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Nancy Arntz of Lawton, OK; sister, Kathryn Wallace, Leavenworth; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and son, Harry E. Bond.

Funeral services were held at the Davis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. William T. Nowlan officiated at the service. Burial was at the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.

David "Paul" Vogt

David "Paul" Vogt was born on August 8, 1924. He passed away on April 27, 1999, at the age of 74. Paul attended school in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. After high school, he went on to complete his education at the Hemphill Diesel Engine School in Long Island, New York. Paul used this knowledge in his career as a truck driver for the remainder of his life.

Paul served in the United States Marine Corps and participated in the occupation of China in 1945 and 1946. At the time of his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of Corporal.

Fishing, telling truck driver stories, listening to old-time gospel music and preaching were Paul's favorite pastimes. He was actively involved in a trucker ministry, and also corresponded with men in prison to encourage them in their new-found faith in Christ. Paul attended the Perham Assembly of God with Reverend Larry Refsland, pastor.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Vera. He is survived by one brother, step-children, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 6 at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Cemetary, Lake Elmo, Minnesota.

Schoeneberger Funeral Home of Perham, MN was in charge of the arrangements.

Rose Krebs

Rose E. Krebs, 72, of Richville passed away Sunday, May 2nd at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls after a brief illness.

She was born August 29, 1926 near Galchutt, ND to Theodore and Laura (Wold) Jacobson. She graduated in 1944 from the Wahpeton High School and then moved to Minneapolis where she worked at the Walker Chemical Company.

On August 17, 1946 she married Ralph Krebs in Minneapolis. They lived in Aberdeen, SD, Watertown, SD and then in Eureka, SD for 17 years. In 1965 they moved to Whapeton, ND, then later to Otter Tail Lake and for the past 11 years have lived at Pickerel Lake near Amor.

She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star while living at Eureka, SD. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. she enjoyed playing golf, bridge and bird watching. She was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker and had a wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph; daughters, Deb (Wayne) Bergerud of Perham and Sandy Klosterman of Detroit Lakes; a son, Steve (Audrey) Krebs of Breckenrdge; four grandchildren, Jason, Elizabeth, Matt and Brandon; a sister, Thelma (Mirko) Podgornik of Mesa, AZ and a brother, Lyman (Claire) Jacobson of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and a sister.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Amor. Rev. James Gronbeck officiated. Interment was in the Amor Cemetery.

Glende-Johnson-Nelson & Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake, MN took care of the arrangements.

Arline C. Keating

Arline C. Keating, 86, of Perham, MN passed away on Saturday, May 1, 1999 at Perham Memorial Home. She was born on March 17, 1913 in Minneapolis, MN. She married Elmer O. Johnson on July 11, 1931. He passed away on July 1, 1950. She married Joseph Keating on August 28, 1967. He passed away January, 1982.

She is survived by one son Elmer O. Johnson (Babs) of Aitkin, MN. Four daughters; Pat (Gary) Hagen of Ottertail, MN; Sandra Olson, Diane Johnson both of Minneapolis, MN; Linda Markham of Anchorage, Alaska. One step son, Mike Keating of Ramsey, MI. Seventeen grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Three sisters; Ruth Richard, Ellamay (Tom) Grey, Betty Lou (Ben) Rosin all of Minneapolis, MN.

Funeral service will be held at Golden Valley Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, MN.

Edna Hoyhtya

Funeral services were held for Edna Hoyhtya on Tuesday, June 8, 1999 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New York Mills, MN with the Rev. John Krueger officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation with a solo performed by Barbara Hoyhtya, accompanied by Tim Johnson.

The pallbearers were Howard Tolkinen, Bob Tolkinen, Melvin Helmrichs, Brian Maki, Harley Karvonen and Lowell Johnson. Interment was in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, MN.

Edna Amelia Hoyhtya was born March 7, 1915 at home in Newton Township, rural New York Mills, MN. Her parents were the late Charles and Anna Greta (Pitaho) Mattson. Edna was baptized on March 27, 1915 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills and confirmed at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 15, 1931. She graduated from the New York Mills High School with the Class of 1935. After graduation, Edna worked in Detroit, Michigan for two years and then moved back to New York Mills, where she worked as a receptionist for Dr. E.C. Hanson for two and a half years. On August 14, 1941 Edna was united in marriage with Arnold Hoyhtya at the First English Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN. After their marriage they made their home in Minneapolis for five years. In 1946 Arnold and Edna moved back to New York Mills where Edna went back to work for Dr. Hanson until her retirement.

Edna and Arnold celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991. Arnold passed away on January 2, 1993. Edna was a faithful member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, belonging to the Women's Circle and the Altar Guild. She was also a volunteer in the arts and crafts department at the Elders' Home in New York Mills.

Edna passed away on June 5, 1999 at the Elders' Home at 84 years of age.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Arnold; and many of her sisters and brothers.

Survivors include two sisters, Sarah Lahti of Roseville, MN and Mary Ann Neva of Oakmont, PA; also many nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

Arrangements were provided by the Karvonen and Son Funeral Home of New York Mills, MN.

Edward Kasma

Funeral services were held for Edward Kasma on Monday, June 7, 1999 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, MN with the Rev. Don Salo officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janet Tumberg at the organ.

The pallbearers were Jack Hendrickson, Robert Mursu, John Pilegaard, Wilho Jaaska, Kenneth Rimpila and Donald Maunumaki. Honorary pallbearers were all of Edward's grandchildren. Interment was in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, MN.

Edward Carl Kasma was born on August 16, 1908 at home in Deer Creek Township, rural New York Mills, MN. His parents were the late Charles and Ida (Karjalainen) Kasma. Edward grew up on the family farm where he learned about farming from his father, Charles. The Kasma family moved into New York Mills, and then returned to the farm after two years, where Edward continued farming.

On June 20, 1928 Edward was united in marriage with Florence Hilma Nampa in Fergus Falls, MN. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Edward and Florence farmed their entire lives beginning at the Kasma farm and then purchasing the Nampa homestead. They retired from farming in the late 1950's and moved to Golden Valley, MN where Edward worked at Kenny's Gas Station. In the early 1960's Edward and Florence were caretakers of a business complex for four years in Burnsville, MN. They returned to New York Mills to live on the family farm. Edward worked at Hi-Way Auto for several years. He was a devoted farmer and loved nature, whether it was taking care of his crops or watching a deer run across his field. He also enjoyed reading and listening to comedians.

On June 4, 1999 Edward passed away at the Perham Memorial Home in Perham, MN at 90 years of age.

Preceding him in death were his parents; six sisters; three brothers; daughter-in-law, Mae Kasma; and son-in-law, Elmer Schwartz, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Florence Kasma of New York Mills, MN; daughter, Joyce Schwartz of Seville, OH; two sons, Kenneth Kasma of Buffalo, MN and Clinton (Jana) Kasma of Lady Lake, FL and Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; three sisters: Adeline (Ernie) Sadewasser of Naselle, WA, Darlene Oliver of St. Paul, MN and Alyce Kirchen of Vancouver, WA; brother, Lester Kasma of New York Mills, MN; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Arrangements were provided by Karvonen and Son Funeral Home of New York Mills, MN.
