Arthur L. Nordness
Arthur L. Nordness was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Rushford to Josephine and Gilbert Nordness.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two children, Donny Nordness of Springfield, Ore., and Judy (Boris) Dobrotin of Valley Center, Calif; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters - Alice Gudmundson and Gilma Ekern; and a son, Danny Nordness.
Mr. Nordness was retired from ARCO refinery. He and his wife made their home in Klamath Falls, Ore., for 20 years and he was an active member in the Bonanza Lion’s Club.
Funeral services were Oct. 19, 2004 with burial in Westminster Cemetery, Westminster, Calif.

Richard Glenna
Richard Glenna, 85, of rural Lanesboro, died Friday (Oct. 22, 2004) at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
He was born May 19, 1919, in rural Peterson to Bernard “Bennie” and Mary (Thorud) Glenna. He attended country school and the Peterson School. From 1940 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Army as a welder. During that time, he served 2 1/2 years in North Africa of the Mediterranean Theater. After his return, he was united in marriage to Marion J. Bremseth on Oct. 26, 1945, at the Mabel Lutheran Parsonage.
They farmed in Newburg Township, Fillmore County, for four years before buying a farm in Amherst Township. In 1976, they moved just down the road, but have continued to help his son, Toby, with the farm work.
He was a member of Highland Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, the Mabel American Legion, and the Mabel Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed welding, building bird houses, listening to polkas, playing cards and his daily trips to Highland.
Mr. Glenna was survived by his wife Marion; a son, Thoben (Bonnie) of Lanesboro; four daughters, Susanne “Sue” (Kenneth) Okada of Lime Springs, Iowa, Sara (Michael) Onsager of Decorah, Iowa, Sherida (Tom) Newgard of Mabel and Sandra (Gene) Goodman of Kasson; 14 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; three sisters, Ovedia Ellefson of Rushford, Norma Haslerud of Roseau, and Muriel (Carlton) Thomson of Austin; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers, and a son-in-law.
Funeral services were Oct. 27 at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Lanesboro, the Rev. Paul Johnson officiated. Burial was at Highland Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by the Mabel American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Audrey Marie Colbenson
Audrey Marie (Barney) Colbenson, 74, died Oct. 21, 2004, at Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth.
She was born Aug. 5, 1930, to Albert and Helen (Gilbertson) Barney in Rush Creek, Fillmore County. She attended Tenborg Country School and Rushford High School. She had lived in Duluth for 20 years.
She is survived by five children; three sisters, Deloris Kopperud, Beatrice Rislove, Gladys Iverson, all of Rushford; nieces; nephews; grandchildren; and many friends in Duluth.
A memorial service was at the William Lobermeir Funeral Home in Duluth, Oct. 24. Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Duluth.

Carl Robert Bassler
A private family service with military honors was held Oct. 17 at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville for Carl Robert Bassler, 60, of Park Falls, Wis. The Rev. Jon Grama officiated.
Mr. Bassler, formerly of Stewartville and rural LeRoy, Kasson and Rushford, died Friday (Oct. 15, 2004) in Marshfield, Wis. following a long illness.
Mr. Bassler was born Mar. 1, 1944, in Laurel, Md., and grew up on the family farm in rural Clarksville, Md. He attended school in Clarksville until the family moved to farm in rural LeRoy. He attended LeRoy High School, where he was a member of its wrestling team until enlisting in the Army in 1963. He served in Hawaii and Alaska, and as a paratrooper in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
In 1965, he married Bunny Schmidt of Spring Valley in Clarksville, Tenn. They were later divorced. On Sept. 17, 1999, he married Kathy Kelly in Park Falls, Wis., and she survives.
Following his first marriage, he farmed in rural Kasson until moving to a farm in rural Rushford. He also worked as a carpenter. Following his divorce, he moved to Stewartville, where he lived until moving to Park Falls, where he had lived since.
He was a former member of LeRoy Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed his family, the North Woods, Lake Superior and hunting.
Survivors include his mother: Irma Bassler of Stewartville; three sons, Matthew (Kathy), Joseph (Jennifer) and Chad (Tanya, all of Hutchinson, Minn.; two stepsons, Kyle and Keenan Kelly, both of Park Falls; seven grandchildren; a brother: Clarence (Joan) of Taneytown, Md.; five sisters, Millie Moore of Quarryville, Pa., Dora (John) Bush of Indianapolis, and Ruth Bohlen, Irma Frederickson and Mary (Paul) Brekke, all of Stewartville. He was preceded in death by his father, an infant brother and a grandson.

James Edgar Otis
James Edgar Otis, 85, died Saturday (Oct. 16, 2004) at Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles.
He was born March 8, 1919, to Roy S. and Ruby (May (Lampman) Otis in Rushford. He attended school in Rushford and served honorably in the Army during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He married Elsie Dingfelder and was divorced, then married Thelma Corine Phillips on March 10, 1956.
Mr. Otis was a lifelong resident of Fillmore and Winona counties. He held various jobs in farming, factory work and transporting people around the area.
Mr. Otis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushford and a member of the Rushford American Legion.
He enjoyed horseback riding and gardening.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann (Mrs. Sam) Otis-Green of Burbank, Calif.; one grandson; a sister, Grace Heublein of Rushford; a brother, Byron (Mrs. Elsie) Otis of Belvidere, Ill.; two brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma Corine on Feb. 12, 1992; and two sisters, Virginia Garness and Lillian Rasmuson.
Funeral services were Oct. 20 at Hoff Funeral Home - Rushford Chapel, the Rev. Robert Drier officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Rushford.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

David Anthony Johnson
A memorial service for David Anthony Johnson was Oct. 20 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, the Rev. Kerry Eversole officiated.
Mr. Johnson, 61, of Lanesboro, died Sunday (Oct. 17, 2004) at his home.
Born Sept. 22, 1943, in Lanesboro, he graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1961 and from Winona State University. On June 5, 1965, he married Diane Borgen at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro. Mr. Johnson taught in Spring Valley schools for nine years and then did substitute teaching. He worked in sales for Kuehn Motors in Rochester and worked in the insurance business. He had been president of the Lanesboro Golf Course the past two years, announced for Lanesboro varsity football games for many years and played the trumpet for military services. He was a Packers fan.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jill (Michael) Johnson of Harmony and Jane (Jim) Holien of Hydaburg, Alaska; four grandchildren; a brother, Allen of Rogers, Ark.; and four sisters, Lois (Norman) Larson of Las Vegas, Julia Borgen of Lanesboro, Esther Schlee of Rochester and Martha (Clarence) Quanrud of Preston.

Doris Tillman
Doris Tillman, 97, of Grand Rapids, Minn., died Sunday (Oct. 10, 2004) at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids.
She was born May 16, 1907, to Carl and Edith (King) Johnson.
On July 10, 1937, she was united in marriage to Emil Tillman. They lived in Grand Rapids and later in Rochester.
She was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Tillman was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Rochester. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a fine Christian woman who had a gentle, compassionate and loving spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
Mrs. Tillman is survived by her son Gene of Grand Rapids; one sister, Ruth Ibsen of Iowa City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at East Grace Cemetery in Peterson.

Alice Charlotte Halvorson
Alice Charlotte Halverson, 97, of Spring Grove, passed away Thursday (Oct. 7, 2004) at Tweeten Health Services, Spring Grove.
She was born June 13, 1907 in Spring Grove to Andrew and Christine (Olstad) Ness. She was a lifelong Spring Grove area resident, attending the Storlie School in District 55, rural Spring Grove.
On June 30, 1939, she married Jon C.A. Halverson. The couple farmed in Spring Grove Township until Jon’s death on Feb. 27, 1978. Alice then moved to Spring Grove.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, and a very active member in its women’s groups, delivering Meals on Wheels for many years.
Mrs. Halverson was a member of the County Extension Homemakers group in Spring Grove for more than 50 years.
She loved flowers, especially roses, and was an excellent cook and baker.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice (Duane) Brekke of Hanska and Carol (Curtis) Rustad of Winona; three grandsons; two sisters-in-law, Borghild Blegen and Margaret Ness, both of Spring Grove.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jon, she was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Jetson, and her brother, James Ness.
Funeral services were Oct. 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Spring Grove, the Rev. Zane Anderson officiated. Burial was in Trinity Church Cemetery.

Carolyn Jane Wulff
The funeral service for Carolyn Jane Wulff of Rushford was Oct. 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, Preston. Branch President Steven Voigt officiated. Interment was in Alden Cemetery, Alden, Minn.
She died Tuesday (Oct. 5, 2004) at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis. She was 67 years old.
She was born Aug. 4, 1937, on Douthard’s Creek, Pocahontas County, West Virginia, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Hefner) Sharp. She met her future husband, Bruce Wulff, on a blind date in Washington, D.C. They were married Aug. 9, 1957, and resided in Norfolk, Vir., and then spent most of her life at Albert Lea. They moved to Rushford about five years ago.
Mrs. Wulff was active in her church. She enjoyed traveling by motorcycle across the US and Canada. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, and genealogy.
Mrs. Wulff is survived by her husband, Bruce, of Rushford; two daughters, Meka Byrne and her special friend Mark McGrady of Guerneville, Calif., Karen Snodgrass and her husband Joseph of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Joe and Marla Sharp of Vinton, Vir.; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
