Robert Dana Hanson
Robert Dana Hanson, 50, died Thursday (April 29, 2004) at his home in Rushford.
Mr. Hanson was born on Jan. 12, 1954 in Rushford to Robert K. and Willa (Hinckley) Hanson. He was a life-long resident.
He graduated from Rushford High School in 1972 and received his Master’s Degree from Winona State University in 1980.
He was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church. He was a bicycling enthusiast, which included his longest trip of 3000 miles. Mr. Hanson was a history buff and enjoyed classical and Dixieland music.
He is survived by one sister Catherine Hanson and a niece of La Crosse, Wis.; and an aunt Gertrude Hanson of Rushford. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were May 4 at the funeral home in Rushford. Burial was in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Maynard Eiken
Maynard Eiken died peacefully at the age of 90 on Saturday (May 1, 2004) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Mr. Eiken was a farmer all his life. He was born Oct. 18, 1913, to Henry and Clarinda (Jenson) Eiken in Yucatan. He married Hilda A. Ferden on Aug. 8, 1936. They had two children and five grandchildren.
Mr. Eiken lived and worked with his wife on his family farm in Bratsburg.
As a farmer, he took great pride in his herd of beef cattle while attuned to the miracles of nature around him. He loved the fast pace of fiddle music, dances in Choice and holding babies. His sense of humor was only surpassed by his love and devotion to his friends and family.
He was a lifetime member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in Fillmore County.
Mr. Eiken is survived by his wife, Hilda Eiken; a son, Everett (Kim) Eiken; a daughter, Kaye (Allan Skalet) Eiken; five grandchildren; a brother, Wallace Eiken; two sisters, Helen Olson and Thora Lou Doblar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Talfourd and Joseph Eiken.
Funeral services were May 5 at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, the Rev. Wade Davick officiating.
Memorial funds have been set up at the American Cancer Society and Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in his honor.

Patricia J. Hungerholt
Patricia J. Hungerholt, 56, died Sunday (May 2, 2004) at her home in Rushford.
She was born Nov. 19, 1947 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to Dalton B. and Ellen (Mathers) Patterson. She married Dan Hungerholt on May 5, 1990 in Rushford.
Mrs. Hungerholt worked for TRW in Rushford for many years. She also had been a waitress for several supper clubs in the area over the past years. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Rushford.
Mrs. Hungerholt was an avid Vikings Fan, excellent baker, enjoyed sewing and gardening and collected cookie jars and salt and pepper shakers. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Dan; three daughters, Karmen (Todd) Baker, Cindy (Dan Kleist) Hungerholt and Amy (Scott) Steinfeldt all of Rushford; ten grandchildren; one brother, Dalton E. “Joe” Patterson of LaCrescent; and four sisters, Martha Lensing of Garwin, Iowa, Frances (William) Andrist of Stewartville, Dorothy (Patrick) Schulte of Caledonia, and Jackie (Hugo) Bakken of Elkland, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (May 8) at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Rushford with the Rev. Douglas Heuiser officiating. Burial will be in the Hungerholt Cemetery in rural Lanesboro.
Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Clarence M. Sorum
Clarence M. Sorum, 79, of Rushford died on Wednesday (April 28, 2004) at Winona Community Memorial Hospital in Winona.
Mr. Sorum was born on July 6, 1924, in Rushford to Carl and Mabel (Grinde) Sorum. He was raised in Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1943.
On June 18, 1949, Clarence married Margaret Haedtke in Wilson, Minn.
He farmed in the North Prairie area for 23 years, and then in 1972, Clarence and Margaret moved to Rushford. He worked at Himlie Construction for a short time in Rushford. Clarence then worked at Froedert Malt Company in Winona for over 16 years. He enjoyed Polka Dancing as well as traveling. Clarence was always on the go, keeping busy in his garden and around the house.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; two brothers: Glen (Pat) Sorum of California and Paul (Esther) Sorum of Rushford; four sisters: Lois Barthelme of Stewartville, Minn., Carrol (Jane) Franzen of Waukon, Iowa, Everett (Betty) Johnson of Lanesboro, Minn. and Richard (Marlys) McCallson of Lanesboro, Minn.
Funeral services were May 3 at Rushford Lutheran Church, the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiated. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Lillian O. Holland
Lillian O. Holland, 79, of Peterson, died Thursday (April 22, 2004) at the Lake Winona Manor in Winona.
She was born on June 13, 1924, in Hawley, Minn. to Ludvig and Olga (Haarstad) Kvamme. She was raised in Hawley, and moved to Minneapolis where she worked as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital. On October 6, 1945 she married Silas A. Holland in Hawley.
The Hollands lived in Forrest City Iowa from 1951 to 1957. They then moved to the Peterson and Lanesboro area where they farmed for many years.
Mrs. Holland was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, Minn. and was on the church council there. She was a member of the Peterson Garden Club, Peterson Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed family, travel, playing dominos and was known as a social butterfly.
Mrs. Holland is survived by four sons: Ellsworth (Karla) Holland of Rushford, Luther (Karen) Holland of Winona, David (Dixie) Holland of Winona, and Daniel (Leanne) Holland of Blooming Prairie; one daughter, Julie (Gerhard) Heier of Spring Grove; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; two brothers: Carlton (Kathy) Kvamme of Elbow Lake, and Kermit (Grace) Kvamme of Goodyear, Ariz.; two sisters: Stella Ann Swiggum of Golden Valley, Minn. and Renora Paulson of Washburn, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson and one brother.
Funeral services were April 26, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, the Rev. Ronald Warnes officiated. Burial was in the Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to be directed to Grace Lutheran church or Arendahl Lutheran Church. Hoff Funeral Homes-Rushford Chapel assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Joseph E. Jonsgaard
Joseph B. Jonsgaard, 87, of Winona and formerly of Rushford, Minn. died on Thurs. (April 22, 2004) at the Sauer Memorial Home in Winona.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1916, in Fremont Township of Winona County to Andrew and Margaret (Stinson) Jonsgaard. Joseph was raised in the Fremont area and attended the Fremont School. On June 17, 1941, he married Lela Edwards in Hart. Joseph farmed in the Bratsberg area until 1958, when he moved to Rushford. He worked at the Rushford School as a janitor and a bus driver until 1983. In November of 2002, Joseph moved to the Sauer Memorial Home. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and his grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by four sons: Gary, (Carol) of Winona, Bob (Rosie) of Winona, Dale (Diane) of Rushford and Gerald (Lynn) of Aurora, Colorado; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; one brother, Roy (Eleanor) Jonsgaard of Utica, and one sister, Seldie Bartelson of Winona.
He was preceded in death by his wife, infant daughter, six sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were April 26 at Rushford Lutheran Church, the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiated. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Vernon G. Carlson
Vernon G. Carlson, 66, died Monday (April 26, 2004) at his home in Bloomington, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jeanette Carlson.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janice; three sons - Eric (Monica) of Savage, Kurt of Beaumont, Tex., and Leif (Deena) of Eagan; three grandsons; a brother Leroy (Kerstin) of Denver Colo., and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Carlson was a graduate of Rushford High School and the University of Minnesota. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Olstad, in 1960. He was a Marine Corps reservist, active in several civic organizations, and a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church.
He retired in 2001 after 37 years with Lutheran Brotherhood and began to fully enjoy his cabin on Big Sandy Lake with family and friends. He loved being a husband, father, and professional grandpa. He was an avid bicyclist, hiker, skier, and private plane pilot. He and his wife, Jan, were proud to complete several 150-mile charity bicycle rides and one of his last activities, arranged by loved ones, was a flight over his lake cabin.
Services will be held Friday, April 30, at 11 a.m. the St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 8400 France Ave. S., Bloomington, with Pastor Keith Magnuson officiating. Burial with a graveside service will also be Friday at 4 p.m. at the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery in Rushford. Visitation will be Thursday, April 29th from 5-8 p.m. at the Gill Bros. Funeral Chapel, 9947 Lyndale Ave. S., Bloomington. Memorials preferred to St. Stephen Lutheran Church.

Dean F. Johnson
Dean F. Johnson died early Tuesday evening (Apr. 13, 2004) in a one-car accident on Stagecoach Road in Evergreen, Colo.
He was born Nov. 15, 1949, in Rushford. He was the second son born to Earl L. Johnson and Marian L. (Braatz) Johnson.
He graduated from Rushford High School in 1967. He attended Rochester Junior College and Brown Electronic Institute in Minneapolis.
Mr. Johnson served four years in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed most of his military time in the Philippines working as a meteorologist.
Mr. Johnson worked in construction and carpentry in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area before moving to Colorado in 1977. He was currently in the cement/construction business.
He married Kim Howard on May 30, 1980. They were blessed with two children - Krista and Dalton. His son, Dalton, died July 7, 2003, in a traffic accident at the age of 16.His wife, Kim and his daughter Krista and her fiance Trey, all of Evergreen, Colo., survive Dean. He is also survived by his father, Earl L. Johnson of Rushford, a brother Gary (Christine) Johnson of Lakewood, Colo., and a sister, Lisa (Steve) Anderson of Rushford; niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Dalton and his mother Marian.
A memorial service was held Apr. 17 in Evergreen, Colo.

Donald L. Erickson
The funeral for Donald L. Erickson was held Apr. 28 at First Lutheran Church of Highland in rural Lanesboro, the Rev. Paul Johnson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Erickson, 91, of Lanesboro, a longtime farmer and former sales commission employee, died Sunday (Apr. 24, 2004) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, where he had lived since Sept. 2001.
He was born May 15, 1912, in rural Lanesboro, grew up there and attended Gribbon Valley country school. On Nov. 28, 1936, he married Martha Berge in Peterson. She died Dec. 2, 1996.
Mr. Erickson farmed in rural Lanesboro for 50 years, and after moving to town worked at the Lanesboro Sales Commission for 12 years. He farmed with 24 horses. He enjoyed mechanical work, horses and playing bingo.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell (Elaine) of Rushford and Alton (Delaine) of Preston; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, He was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and four sisters.
