Marietta A. Johnson
Marietta A. Johnson, 75, of Wilson, died Monday (Mar. 15, 2004) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Rushford.
She was born July 10, 1928, in Winona to Ben and Florence (Koenig) Rolfing. She married Robert Johnson on Dec. 1, 1951, in Winona.
She is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wilson, WWCW and had been involved with the church’s Kitchen Committee.
Mrs. Johnson was also a member of the Leon J. Wetzel American Legion Post No. 9 Auxiliary, Wilson Fire Department Auxiliary, was a Red Cross Volunteer Caller and a member of the Winona Health Auxiliary and the Merchants Bank Premier Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on July 7, 1990; parents; brother, Frank Rolfing and grandson, Troy Crouch.
She is survived by sons Keith (Joan) Johnson and Kevin Johnson, both of Wilson; twins, Bruce (Jean) and Brian Johnson, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; twin daughters, Joan Hanson, San Diego, Calif., and Jean (Steve) Crouch, Rushford; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl (Alice) Rolfing, Long Beach, Calif., Roger (Mary) Rolfing, Winona, and Bernard (Barbara) Rolfing, Wilson; six sisters, Rita Thill, Winona, Lorine (Jim) Thorn, Blooming Prairie, Lillian (Gerald) Abts, Fountain City, Wis., Elizabeth (Paul) Matton, Minneapolis, Celestine “Sally” Reitz, Minneapolis, and Audrey Rolfing, Minneapolis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Mar. 20 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wilson, the Rev. Shawn Haremza officiated. Burial was in Immaculate conception Cemetery, Wilson.
Casketbearers were Todd and Tyler Crouch, Jared, Kyle and Joshua Hanson and Jerome Gardner.

Orval Marlen Loven
Orval Marlen Loven, 83, died at his home on Friday (Mar. 19, 2004) of a cancerous brain tumor.
He was born Jan. 13, 1921 to Henry and Clarice (Hendrickson) Loven in Glenwood Township of Winneshiek County, Iowa, and baptized Jan. 30, 1921 at Glenwood Lutheran Church where he was confirmed May 19, 1935.
He attended the Rocksvold one-room school house for eight years; and graduated with the class of 1939 from Decorah High School. Following high school, he remained at home and farmed with his parents.
He enjoyed playing softball with the Glenwood team as a catcher that resulted in some championship games. He drove his “Indian” motorcycle down to Texas in 1948 and ’49 for the winter months.
On June 22, 1950, he married Lois Marie Blume at Belle Plaine, Minn. He continued farming with his dad until they moved to the Peterson area in March 1955.
He worked at various jobs besides farming and was a member of the Highland Prairie dartball team until they disbanded. He attended Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson where he was a member of Lutheran Brotherhood and was financial secretary for many years. In 1989, they joined St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hart where he served as trustee, LLL and LC Extension Fund representative, and was a member of the evening Bible study group. He enjoyed the annual chicken and ham supper where he cut many pies.
Besides farming and raising his family, he enjoyed going to auctions, wood working, making unique canes, gardening and visiting. He had a collection of mini-farm machinery.
He is survived by his wife Lois, seven sons: Mark (Kathy) Escondido, Calif.; Paul, West Brook, Maine; Joel (Julie) of Lanesboro; John (Charlene) rural Decorah, Iowa; James (Bev) LeRoy; Daniel (Kathy) Trumansburg, New York; and Philip (Michele) Omaha, Neg.; two daughters: Ruth Cranley, Rushford; and Elisabeth (Keith) Alexander, LeMars, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and one brother Lloyd (Susie) Dallas, Tex.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn daughter; a sister Vivian Niemann, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Loven.
Funeral services were Mar. 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart. Burial was in East Grace Cemetery, Peterson.

Ruby Tona Millie
Ruby Tona Millie, 87, of Winona died Friday (Mar. 19, 2004) at Lake Winona Manor.
She was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Houston County to John and Gelena (Jore) Doblar. She was baptized at Houston Lutheran Stone Church and confirmed at the Money Creek Methodist Church. She attended the Money Creek School.
On June 22, 1944, she married Orrin Millie of Flushing, N.Y., formerly of Rushford.
Mrs. Millie was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Flushing, where she was active in the choir, Altar Guild and Ladies Aid. She worked for many years for Louelle Photographers in New York. Since 1976, she had been a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona.
She is survived by her husband, Orrin of Winona; daughter, Marsha (Kenneth) Fischl of Chicago; two grandsons; one sister, Hazel Olstad of Rushford; and one brother, Ralph Doblar of LaCrescent.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Archie; sister, Myrtle; and one nephew, John Doblar.
Funeral services were Mar. 23 at Central Lutheran Church, Winona. Burial was at Highland Prairie Cemetery, Peterson.

Harlon P. Northouse
Harlon P. Northouse, 86, of rural Winona, died Monday (Mar. 15, 2004) at his home.
He was born April 21, 1917, in Newburg to Leonard and Mathilda (Veider) Northouse. He married Louise A. Mohney on Nov. 9, 1946, in Spring Grove.
He grew up in the Mabel area, working as a farm hand and for Mabel Creamery for 10 years. In 1948, the couple moved to their current homestead in Warren Township of Winona County to pursue his love of farming.
Mr. Northouse enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and visiting and reminiscing with friends.
He was a member of Garness Lutheran Church in rural Mabel.
Mr. Northouse is survived by his wife, Louise; a son, Duane (Jane) Northouse of Comfrey, Minn.; a sister, Mavis Jenson of Rushford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl and Robert.
Funeral services were Mar. 18 at Garness Lutheran Church, rural Mabel, the Rev. Mary Waudby officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Carl A. Dietrich
Carl A. Dietrich, 90, of Winona, died Tuesday (Mar. 16, 2004) at the Lake Winona Manor.
He was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Cedar Valley, Winona County, to Emil and Minnie (Sampson) Dietrich.
He married Gladys M. Malewicki on Apr. 15, 1939, in St. Thomas Pro Cathedral, Winona.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and Harvest House. Mr. Dietrich worked at Rochester Dairy and then at Watkins Products until he retired in 1976. He later worked part-time with wife, Gladys, at the Sterling Motel for several years.
He loved playing cards, his winter trips to Texas, camping and seeing and listening to Twins baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys of 65 years; children, Carl (Shirley) Dietrich of Peterson, Robert Dietrich of Winona, Martha (Bob) Wenger of Lake City, Wayne Dietrich of Minnesota City, and Kathleen (Carrol) Hager of Lake City; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rudy (Eleanore) Dietrich of Winona, and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Elsie and Martha.
A Eucharistic celebration of his life was held Mar. 22 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with the Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Entombment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Gusta J. Highum
Gusta J. Highum, 92, of Rushford, died Friday (Mar. 12, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1911, in Rushford to John and Ida (Laumb) Bratland. She grew up in Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School.
On February 26, 1931, she married Arthur Highum in Rushford.
Mrs. Highum was the head cook at the Rushford Schools for many years and also worked at the Rushford Bakery. She lived in her home until 10 months ago when she moved to the nursing home. Her interests included flowers, crocheting, quilting, and especially her church and her family. She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church and the ladies aide there.
She is survived by three daughters: Ione (Myron) Olson of Bloomington, Minn., Eileen (Orley) Koljord of Lanesboro and Audrey (Sam) Sands of Mission Viejo, Cal.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were Mar. 15 at the Rushford Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Carl J. Boehmke
Carl J. Boehmke, 96, of Rushford, died Wednesday (Mar. 10, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
He was born on May 1, 1907, in Hart Township of Winona County, to Lewis and Mary (Heusmann) Boehmke. He attended the St. John’s Lutheran School in Hart and also the Washington Kosciusko School in Winona, Minn.
On Sept. 22, 1928, he married Hazel Feine at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart.
Mr. Boehmke worked as a farmer in the Hart area until 1960, then he did carpentry work until the mid 1990s. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church where he had been on the church board and was on the Tri-County Electric board in Rushford as well.
He enjoyed gardening, especially roses, hunting, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Mr. Boehmke is survived by three sons: Robert (Maxine) Boehmke of Rushford, Charles (Marilyn) Boehmke of Rushford, and Louis (Marlene) Boehmke of Port St. Luci, Fla.; three daughters: Shirley Bublitz and Marcella Boehmke both of Henderson, Nev. and Roberta Anderson of Rushford; 23 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Gertrude Eggert and Erna Engrav; Daughter, Ellen Marie; two sons-in-law, Kenneth Anderson and Milton Bublitz; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today (Mar. 18) at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, with the Rev. Frederick Buth officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Brand Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on today at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to be directed to the St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Rosemary Jeresek
Rosemary Jeresek, 81, of Winona, died Sunday (Mar. 14, 2004) at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.
She was born on July 21, 1922, in Red Wing, to John A. and Ruth (Hawkinson) Carlson. She married Edward Jeresek in Memphis, Tenn.
Mrs. Jeresek received her registered nurse degree from Kahler Methodist School of Nursing in Rochester. She worked at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona, from 1949 to 1968. She served as the director of nursing at the Watkins Methodist Home from 1968 to 1975. She was an instructor of nursing at the Winona Technical College from 1975 to 1981, when she retired.
She served on the Polish Heritage Society Board, Westfield Women and the Shrine auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid bridge player and loved her rose garden.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Sandee) Jeresek, Rushford, Mary (Jeff) Stangl, Buffalo City, Wis., and John (Kris) Jeresek, Libby, Mont.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Anne Marsolek; and her parents.
Funeral services were Mar. 17 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, the Rev. William Becker, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiated. Entombment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.
