Ethel E. Feine
Ethel E. Feine, 75, of Hart, died Monday (Jan. 26, 2004) at the Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis., following a three-month battle with cancer.
She was born on Oct. 12, 1928, in Hart to Arnold and Etta (Heiden) Sievers.
On Oct. 30, 1948, she married Vernon Feine at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart. She lived all of her life in the Hart area.
She was a 1947 graduate of Rushford High School. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, and was a very active farm wife. Mrs. Feine was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart where she was in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was a member of the Rushford Community Clinic Board.
She is survived by her husband Vernon, three sons, James Feine of Winona, Glen (Marcie) Feine of Rushford, and Randy Feine of Winona; four grandchildren; three brothers, Darold (Alice) Sievers of Rushford, Charles Sievers of Preston, and Wayne (Diane) Sievers of Fallbrook, Calif.; two sisters, Lois (John) Torgerson of Rushford; and Betty Klawiter of Lompoc, Calif.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Feine was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Norman.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart with Rev. Frederick Buth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel and one hour.

Arnold Everett Grimsrud
Arnold Everett Grimsrud, 87, of Rushford died Wed. (Jan. 14, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1917, on the Grimsrud farm in Coon Valley, Wis., to Arndt and Elida (Bjelland) Grimsrud. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lower Coon Valley Church. He graduated from Gale College Academy in 1935.
On April 7, 1945, he married Helen Signe Holmes. After years of farming, he went into business becoming assistant manager at the Wanamingo Grain Elevator, and later, manager at the Kenyon Farmer’s Elevator. The couple moved to Rushford in 1977, remaining active in business, community and church.
Mr. Grimsrud treasured spending time with family and friends and sharing his faith. He enjoyed North country fishing and hunting trips with his sons and grandsons. Often with Helen, he loved scenic countryside drives around the hills of Rushford or on the winding roads of Coon Valley, or traveling across country to see family and grandchildren.
Mr. Grimsrud was a member of Lower Coon Valley Church, his home church in Wisconsin; Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Kenyon, Minn.; Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, Minn.; and in later years, the Root River Community Church in Rushford.
He is survived by his sister, Rebecca Grimsrud of Westby, Wis.; four children: Ruth (Steven) Bendson of Minneapolis, Minn., Ann (Lee) Dumond of West Richland, Wash., Daniel (Mary Jo) Grimsrud of Rushford and Steven (Kayce) Grimsrud of Missoula, Mont.; a brother-in law, Carlton (Alice) Holmes of Montello, Wis.; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one niece, three nephews, and the Grimsrud cousins.
Mr. Grimsrud was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, Halfdan, and one sister, Magdalene.
There was a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Sat. (Jan. 17) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel in Rushford with Pastor Les Nelson and Pastor Duane Agrimson officiating.
Burial was in the Highland Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in rural Peterson.

Vivian A. Humble
Vivian A. Humble, 85, of Rushford died Saturday (Jan. 17, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Mrs. Humble was born on August 12, 1918, in Highland to Rudolph and Lilly (Skalet) Johnson. She was raised in Highland and attended the Highland School through the eighth grade. She then attended and graduated from Lanesboro High School.
On September 5, 1937, She married Lloyd Humble at the First Lutheran Church of Highland. She was a very active member of the Rushford Lutheran Church. There she was involved in the ladies aide, circle and quilting group. She taught Sunday school, and played the piano and organ for church services. Many enjoyed sharing her favorite activity - going for pie and coffee. She also appreciated the time she spent with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd; one son, Cortland (Laurel) Humble of Rushford; three grandchildren; four great-granddaughters and two brothers, Erlyn and LaVerne Johnson.
She was preceded in death by one sister: Raphany Ferden.
Funeral services were Jan. 20 at the Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating.
Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Dennis G. Stennes
Dennis G. Stennes, 57, of Peterson, died Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) at the Lewiston Villa, in Lewiston.
Mr. Stennes was born on Sept. 1, 1946, in Lanesboro to Jerome and Mildred (Hilden) Stennes. He was raised in the Tawney area north of Mabel.
He graduated from Mabel High School in 1964. On June 10, 1967, Dennis married Lynda Christopherson, they were later divorced.
Mr. Stennes worked at the Rushford Creamery as a milk hauler; Schueler’s Mink Farm; United Building Center; Bakken Ready Mix; Carlson Ready Mix; and Riverside Electronics, all in Rushford. He enjoyed rides in the country, antiques, Country and Western music, and most of all spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by three sons: Jim Stennes, Gary (Kristine) Stennes and Eric Stennes, all of Rushford; one daughter, Nichole Stennes of Rushford; three grandchildren; two brothers: Mervin (Pat) Stennes of Rushford and Russell (Joyce) Stennes of Mabel; one sister, Diane (Bill) Hanlon of Harmony; and his former wife and very special friend, Lynda Stennes.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Jan. 22) at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service today at the church.
The family prefers memorials to be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Milton Emery Jacobson
Milton Emery Jacobson, 82, of Prior Lake passed away Jan. 17, 2004 at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville.
He was born Aug 28, 1921 in Lanesboro. He married Clariet (Clement) on Aug. 25, 1951 in Minneapolis.
Mr. Jacobson is survived by his wife Clariet; children: Michael Jacobson, Janet (Tom) Davis, Judith (John Williams) Jacobson, Jill (Larry) Schommer, Stuart (Kim Matson) Jacobson, Paul Jacobson; brothers Lyle Jacobson, William “Red” Jacobson; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a godson Robert Jacobson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Oscar and Mabel; brothers Orval and Donald; sisters Marjorie, Violet, Maxine; and a niece Dawn Luedke; and one grandson, Nathan Davis.
Mr. Jacobson enjoyed a 48-year career as a Furniture Manufacturer Sales Representative. Some of his accomplishments include: Past President of IHFRA, two term President of NCHFRA. He was a graduate of U of MN, was U of M Big 10 Welter Weight Champ, WWII Navy Vet and Golden Gloves Champ, made All District 1 Football and Basketball in 1939 and 1940. He was an active Member of MN Golf Assoc., MN State Handball Assoc., MN K of C, Zeta Psi Frat Alumni, and New Prague Country Club.
Mass of Christian Burial, was Jan. 22 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Prior Lake. Pallbearers were Luke Schommer, Michael Jacobson Jr., Matthew Davis, Nicholas Schommer, Jacob Schommer, and Jesse Davis. Interment was at Credit River Cemetery.

Inez Steolyn Olson Evavold
Inez Steolyn Olson Evavold, 93, passed away Monday (Jan. 19) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, in Rushford. The youngest of nine children, she was born to Edward and Anne (Halvorson) Olson at Vining, Minn., on May 23, 1910. She attended elementary school in Vining, and graduated from Henning High School. She then attended Park Region Lutheran College in Fergus Falls, and began teaching in rural Otter Tail County schools in 1929. Her marriage to Ephraim M. Evavold took place at the Vining Lutheran Church on June 10, 1934.
After their marriage, they lived at Wood Lake Farm in Eagle Lake township, and enjoyed their summer home on Eagle Lake. After retirement, they bought a home in Evansville, followed by several years at the Senator in Alexandria. They were residents of Mill St. Residence in Fergus Falls for one year, before moving to Good Shepherd in 2001. They also enjoyed winters in Johnson City, Texas for 25 years.
Mrs. Evavold continued her teaching career after her children entered school. She also completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of MN, Morris, and

Olga Marie Kjos
Olga Marie Kjos, 92, of Lake Winona Manor and formerly of Rushford, died Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2004) at Lake Winona Manor.
She was born Aug. 24, 1911, to Ben and Mathilda (Paulson) Iverson in South Fork Valley, Fillmore County. She was baptized and confirmed in the South Fork Lutheran Church and also attended school in that area. On Aug. 24, 1944, she and Clifford Kjos were united in marriage at North Prairie Lutheran Church. Together they farmed near rural Rushford. For many years, she taught Sunday school and was active in ladies aid and circles at the Rushford Lutheran Church. In Winona she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, cooking, reminiscing and was an enthusiast of domestic birds and animals.
She is survived by one sister, Ella Thiele of St. Paul; one son, Clifton (Sharon) Kjos of Winona; three grandsons; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were Jan. 10 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Winona, the Rev. Vincent Bain officiated. Interment was in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Maynard C. Peterson
Funeral services for Maynard C. Peterson were Jan. 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, the Rev. Mark Rieke officiated, and Jan. 14 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., the Rev. Timothy Wenger officiated. Burial was in Rest Lawn Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
Mr. Peterson, 84, of Caledonia, died Sunday (Jan. 11, 2004) at Gundersen Hospital in LaCrosse.
He was born June 1, 1919, near Choice and attended South Fork School.
On Oct. 4, 1941, he married Viola G. Jorgenson. They farmed in rural Mabel and near Forestville before moving to Wisconsin Rapids. Mr. Peterson began working at Consolidated Paper in Wisconsin Rapids in 1957 and continued there for 25 years. His first wife died Dec. 17, 1980. On June 7, 1982, he married Lorraine M. Schroeder, and they had lived in Caledonia since 1991. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Concordia Society, both in La Crosse, and enjoyed fishing, yard work, flowers and landscaping.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon (John) Koschak of Wisconsin Rapids and Lori Koran of Middleton, Wis.; a son, Carroll (Mary) of Wisconsin Rapids; a step-daughter, Jolene Sabo; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother Lowell (Arlene) of Rochester; and a sister-in-law, Violet Jergenson. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Ida E. Rasmussen
Ida E. Rasmussen, 87, of Rushford died Tuesday evening (Jan. 6, 2004) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home from complications of a stroke.
Ida Evelyn was born in Clifford, N.D., on Sept. 16, 1916, to Ole and Clara (Pladson) Ambroson. She married Alvin Rasmussen in Rushford on Oct. 28, 1939. They farmed near Money Creek and Lewiston until moving to Rushford in 1969. Mr. Rasmussen died August 1971.
Mrs. Rasmussen was employed by Rushford Public Schools as a cook from 1972 until her retirement and also enjoyed re-upholstering furniture. She liked gardening, country music and reading cookbooks. She was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church and its women’s organizations.
She is survived by one son, Allen (Barb) Rasmussen of St. Charles; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Rasmussen of Stockton; seven grandchildren; seven great-granddaughters; one brother, Carl (Ruth) Ambroson of Mayville, N.D.; two sisters, Ragna (Marvel) Gutormson of Portland, N.D., and Leona Oglesby of Dundee, Fla.; two sisters-in-law Elaine Ambroson of North Mankato and Gene Ambroson of Grand Forks, N.D.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Ardell, in 1981; granddaughter, Rachel in 1983; and six brothers and five sisters.

Janette Eide
Janette Eide, 63, of Rushford, died on Monday (Jan. 5, 2004) at the intensive care unit of Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born on July 21, 1940, in Winona to Victor and Elizabeth Kellog Orlikowski. She was born and raised in the East End of Winona.
She married Ronald Eide on Jun 14, 1958, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Parish. She later moved to Rushford where she and her husband raised their family.
Mrs. Eide worked at several places including Rush Products, Baron’s Manufacturing, Judy’s Cafe, Woody’s Cafe, Chat ‘n Chew, and the Lewiston Rec Bar and Grill.
She enjoyed dancing, bingo, camping, card playing and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Eide is a member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Rushford.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald; two daughters, Barb (Michael) Soppa of Peterson and Melanie (Jerry) Przybylski of Keystone, S. D.; a son, David Eide (Peggy Sveen) of Winona; seven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; four foster grandsons; four brothers, Raymond “Botcha” Orlikowski, Winona, Victor “Choppa” (Norma) Orlikowski, Milwaukee, Wis.; Arthur (Mitzie) Orlikowski, Texas; and Roger “Hootie” (Mary) Orlikowski, Winona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Linda Eide; and brothers, Richard and Donald Orlikowski.
Services were Jan. 9 at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, the Rev. Wade Davick officiated. Burial was in Highland Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
