Douglas K. Marin
Douglas K. Marin, 44, of Hart died Friday (Jan. 2, 2004) at his farm after a six-month courageous battle with lymphoma
He was born Oct. 7, 1959, in Winona to Stanley and Marcy (Volkman) Marin. He was raised in Hart and graduated from Rushford High School in 1978. Since then he has farmed with his brothers west of Hart.
He enjoyed farming especially caring for the cows. He recently had been working toward building a larger dairy set-up.
He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle, on which he traveled to Sturgis, S.D., in 2001. One year later he married his soul mate, Kelly Miller, in Sturgis on Aug. 6, 2002.
Mr. Marin is survived by his wife, Kelly; his parent, Stanley and Marcy Marin of Rushford; two daughters, Holly Marin of Winona and Dakota Marin, at home; one step-daughter, Kelsey Miller, at home; two brothers, Jerry (Patty) Marin and Glen Marin, both of Rushford; a very special great-aunt, Olga Feine of Winona; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services were Jan. 6 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, the Rev. Frederick Buth officiated. Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Lana M. Everson
Lana M. Everson, 57, of Onalaska died at her home Friday (Dec. 26, 2004).
She was born in LaCrosse on June 3, 1946, to Leon and Catherine (Magnuson) Rostvold. She was known as a free spirit to her family and friends, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Barry of Stillwater, and Billie Jo Barry of Sun Prairie, Wis.; one son, Jeffrey (Kris) Barry of Trempealeau, Wis.; three grandchildren; her mother, Catherine Rostvold of Houston; one sister, Gloria (Elroy) Peterson of Red Wing; and two brothers, Gary Rostvold and Lee Rostvold, both of LaCrosse, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leon, in 1997.
A memorial services was held Jan. 2 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, La Crosse. The Rev. Lane Zaffke officiated.

Esther I. Tuff
Esther I. Tuff, 71, of Rushford, died Sunday (Dec. 28, 2003) at her home.
She was born Nov. 19, 1932, to Elvin and Ida (Edwardson) Tuff in Rushford. She was raised in Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1950, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended St. Olaf College for one year and then went to the Minnesota School of Business.
Miss Tuff attended Winona State University and received her B.S. degree in education in 1956. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, while at Winona State University. She taught fifth grade in Lewiston and Rochester for 11 years.
In the late 1960s she returned to the family farm in Rushford to help on the farm and care for her parents.
She is survived by one brother, Ernest Tuff of Rushford; one sister, Doris Smelser of Citrus Heights, Calif.; one nephew; and one niece; four great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Herbert.
Funeral services were Jan. 3 at Rushford Lutheran Church, the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The family prefers memorials be directed to Rushford Lutheran Church.

Frederick ‘Fritz’ P. Eide
Frederick “Fritz” P. Eide, 88, of Peterson, died Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004) at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis.
He was born May 22, 1915, on the family farm in Grover to Gilbert and Julia (Dahl) Eide. He grew up in Grover and attended Grover School and Boyum School through the eighth grade.
On Dec. 8, 1944, he married Wanda Johnson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Peterson.
Mr. Eide was a dairy farmer and a turkey farm in the Peterson area for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was an easy going man, who loved telling stories, visiting with friends and most of all spending time with his family.
He was a lifetime member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.
Mr. Eide is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, David (Theone) Eide of Utica, and Donald (Diane) Eide of Peterson; one daughter, Julie (James Stevens) Eide of Rushford; four grandchildren; and one sister, Clare Bremmer.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Gilman, Julian, Carl and Milford; and three sisters, Olga, Evelyn and Emma.
Funeral services were Jan. 7 at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, the Rev. Ronald Warnes and the Rev. Janet Warnes officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

James H. Roberton
James Hollister Roberton was born Dec. 20, 1908, the son of James G. and Antoinette Roberton of Rushford. He was raised in Rushford and died at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004) of kidney failure.
Although he had not lived in Rushford for many years, he was faithful to his home town, visiting annually with his extended family and friends, and he retained his membership in the Masonic Lodge in Rushford since 1931.
Roberton was a teacher and public servant. He was a graduate of Rushford High School and Carleton College in Northfield in 1930; received a law degree from the University in Michigan in 1937; and a masters degree in international administration from Columbia University in 1944. He taught English at Christian mission schools in China from 1930-33 and practiced law in New Concord and Winona from 1937-43.
Roberton was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the military occupation of Korea until 1946 and briefly as Judge Advocate for the 9th Naval District in Great Lakes, Ill. After his discharge from the Navy, Jim taught political science at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., for two years and in 1948 began a 20-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency, serving in Poland, New Zealand, and China. He was in the last group of American officials to leave mainland China in 1950. Following his retirement from the CIA in 1968, Jim taught history at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, for six years. Jim was an active member of the Fossils Club-a retiree organization in Maryland-since his retirement in 1974.
Roberton was a member of Chevy Chase (Maryland) United Methodist Church since 1955, and he and his late wife Margaret served the church in various capacities during that time. Jim and Margaret, who was a native of Waseca, were married 59 years, having met while she was teaching at Rushford High School. They were married in Waseca on June 14, 1935. Margaret preceded Jim in death on June 4, 1994.
Friends are invited to pay their respects and greet family members at Hoff Funeral Home today from 5-8 p.m. Jim will be buried in Rushford’s Oak Grove Cemetery, alongside Margaret, tomorrow morning..
Roberton is survived by three sons - James C. Roberton (and wife Karen) of Montgomery Village, Maryland; Douglas T. Roberton of Chevy Chase; and Craig L. Roberton (and wife Fran) of Derwood and three grandchildren.
He is also survived by a nephew, Theodore S. Roberton Jr., of Rushford; a niece, Terry Roberton Nelson, of Payson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Lois Roberton, of Rushford; four grand-nieces and nephews; and four great-grand nieces and nephews.
A brother, John Lewis Roberton, died in 1939; and a brother, Theodore S. Roberton, died in 1990.
The family has requested that any memorials in Jim’s honor be made to Chevy Chase United Methodist Church, 7001 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD, 20815.

W. Homer Eggen
W. Homer Eggen, 79, of Bloomington died Dec. 31, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Eggen was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. At age 23, he was the youngest mayor in the State of Minnesota, serving as mayor of Rushford. He also served as a deputy sheriff of Fillmore County. Mr. Eggen was a 31-year employee of State Farm Insurance.
He was an active member of Woodlake Lutheran Church, Richfield, as a Stephen Minister and in the Meals-on-Wheels program. He was past president of 459th Bomb Group Association, U.S. Air Force. He was an active volunteer in all of the communities in which he lived.
Mr. Eggen is survived by his wife, Mary (maiden name Sherry); sons, Eric Eggen; Peter (Maria) Eggen; Paul (DeDe) Eggen; daughter Kathy (Tim) Gundlach; five grandsons; a brother, Paul Eggen of Post Falls, Idaho; and an uncle, Luther Tollefson of St. Charles.
Funeral services were Jan. 3 at Woodlake Lutheran Church, Richfield. Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Woodlake Lutheran Church or the Minnesota World War II Memorial

Dolores L. Feine
Dolores “Dollie” Lorraine Mierau Feine, 83, of Rushford died Monday (Sept. 8, 2003), at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1919, at home in Winona County, to Charlie and Ella (Neeb) Mierau. She grew up in the Money Creek area and attended school there. In her teen years she worked as a nanny in the Hart and Winona areas. During WWII she worked and lived in Milwaukee, Wis. where she was an inspector in an Allis Chalmers Supercharger Plant.
She married Louis Feine on December 15, 1945. Dollie and Louis farmed in the Hart area until their retirement in 1978, when they moved to Rushford.
Mrs. Feine was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hart, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide. Over the years she was a member of Band mothers, a 4-H leader, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In July of 2001, Mrs. Feine moved to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Apartments.
She is survived by her three sons: Dale (Lori) Feine of San Diego, Cal., Roy (Pat) Feine of Blaine, Minn.; Thomas W. (Ellen) Feine of Rushford, Minn.; two daughters: Marcia (Dale) VanVreede of Maple Grove, Minn. and Shelly (Craig) Cornell of Spring Valley, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother: Melvin (Marcie) Mierau of Rushford; three sisters: Arlene (Elmer) Todd of Winona, Barbara Vander Zanden of Kaukauna, Wis., and Loretta Kahoun of Winona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louis; sister Elsie Ledebuhr; brothers, Arthur (Bob) Mierau, and Ray Mierau; and a great-grand-daughter, Madeline Hellie.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Sept. 11) at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, the Rev. Frederick Buth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Emma A. Thompson
The funeral for Emma A. Thompson was Sept. 7 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, the Rev. Kerry Eversole officiated. Burial was in Whalan Lutheran Cemetery in Whalan.
Mrs. Thompson, 95, died Thursday (Sept. 4, 2003) at Harmony Healthcare Center in Harmony, where she had lived since 1998.
Emma A. Hasleiet was born to Charles and Mary (Ramsey) Hasleiet on Oct. 14, 1907, in rural Whalan. She attended Diamond Creek School through grade eight. Her first husband, Peter Hareldson, died Mar. 21, 1928. Her second husband, Alfred Thompson, died Nov. 25, 1965. She lived in rural Whalan and moved to rural Lanesboro in 1936. She worked for the egg and poultry company in Lanesboro for 34 years.
Survivors include two sons, Duane (Elvie) Thompson of Newark, Ohio, and Arnold (Minerva) Thompson of Caledonia; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many local nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers - Nervin, Ben, Alvin and Alfred and three sisters - Gunda, Cora, Selma.

Mildred L. Agrimson
Mildred L. Agrimson, 87, of Peterson, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 20, 1913, at Pilot Mound to Alexander and Mary McConochie. Mildred was raised at Pilot Mound.
She married Jerome Agrimson on Sept. 18, 1937, at North Prairie. She and Jerome ran the Arendahl store for a few years. The couple then an the Agrimson family farm for many yeas, where Mildred lived until moving to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
She was a member of the Arendahl Lutheran Church.
Mildred is survived by one daughter: Donna (Dave) Heyer of Winona; two brothers: Hugh (Melva) McConcohie of Pilot Mound, and Don (Mary Louise) McConochie of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome, who died in 1965; three sisters: Kathryn Whetstone, Dorothy Hanson and Buehla McConochie.
Funeral services were Jan. 27 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel in Rushford, Peter Huggenvik officiated. Burial will be in the spring at Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery.
