Cheryl L. Helleland
Cheryl L. Helleland, 53, of Rushford died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on March 16, 1949, in Rushford, to Louis and Helen (Gielow) Kingsley. She was raised in Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1967. She married Leon Helleland in Money Creek on Nov. 25, 1967.
Mrs. Helleland worked in various places in Rushford up until the time of her illness in 1996. She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford where she was active on the church council and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Federated Women for the Arts in Rushford. She enjoyed crafts, reading, her family and especially children.
She is survived by her husband, Leon; her mother, Helen Kingsley of Rushford; one son, Brian (Lisa) Helleland of Scottsdale, Arizona; one daughter, Michelle (Chris) Vitse of Peterson; four grandchildren plus one grandson who will be born any day; four brothers, Edward Kingsley and Roger (Mary) Kingsley, both of Houston, Ronald Kingsley of LaCrosse, Wis., and Randy Kingsley of Rushford.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Ray.
The funeral service was June 28 at Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Marion J. Witt
Marion loved roses. The wild roses were blooming in Root River bottoms the day she was born and the roses in her yard were in bloom the day she died, July 12, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Home, Houston.
Marion Johanna Mason, 97, was born June 30, 1905, to Arnold B. and Augusta Nelson Mason in a log cabin on the Buell Farm in Lower Looney Valley, Houston Township, Houston. Her childhood was lived on the Buell Farm and she attended the Lower Looney Valley Brick School for seven yeas. She then walked three miles to Houston for four years where she graduated from Houston High School; she was the last member of the Class of 1922.
She then attended Winona State Teachers College and began her rural school teaching career in the brand new brick Swede Bottom School. This was followed by school terms in Storer Valley, Crystal Valley, Loretta School-South Ridge, Upper Looney Valley, and Pine Creek where she was teaching when she married Arthur D. Witt on December 31, 1929. To this union were born three sons, Mason, Arnold, Mark and one daughter, Rachel. She later taught in the Yucatan Store School and the Badger School.
After being a successful teacher and farm wife, she entered the business world as an antiques dealer and enjoyed the occupation very much for almost 40 years. Doing her last antique show at the Nordic Fest in Decorah, Iowa, at age 90. Besides these activities she enjoyed reading and writing poetry, painting, and flower gardening for pleasure in her later years. She was a charter member of the Iris Garden Club, a life member of the Houston County Historical Society, the Looney Valley Homemakers Club, and a leader of the Silver Creek Rustlers 4-H Club. But, her greatest enjoyment was her family.
She is survived by two sons, Mason and Mark (Kathryn) Witt, both of Houston; one daughter, Rachel (Glen) Ukkestad of Rushford; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Johnson of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Alice Kleinbach, LaCrescent, and Adeline Witt, Mineral Wells, Tex.; numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Shirley Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; one son Arnold; her parents; two brothers, Arnold and Herbert Mason; and three sisters, Elizabeth Vamvas, Helen Lee, and Edith Mark.
Memorial services were July 16 at Houston Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Norman Witt officiated. Burial followed at Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Houston.

Clarissa I. Klinski
Clarissa I. Klinski, 88, died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Clarissa Irene Nelson was born April 1, 1914, in Spring Grove to Peter and Hannah (Gran) Nelson.
On October 3, 1935, she married Luverne Klinski in Caledonia. She worked for Rush Products until retiring in 1985. Mrs. Klinski was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson and its Sarah Circle.
She will be remembered for her love of crocheting, bird watching, quilting with her circle at church and her love for her family. She had been a resident at the nursing home for four years and considered the nursing home staff and residents as part of her family.
Survivors include three sons, Kermit (Shirley) of Plumb city, Wis., Jerome (Beverly) of Peterson, and Douglas (Hazel) of Black Hawk, South Dak.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene (Charles) Baker and Evelyn Harpstrieth, both of LaCrosse, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Orinda Nelson of LaCrosse; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband - Luverne, one brother - William Nelson, and one infant brother.
Funeral services were Aug. 5 at Grace Lutheran Church, Peter Huggenvik officiated. Burial was in the West Grace Cemetery in Peterson.

Mary Alice Kryzer
Mary Alice Kryzer, 95, died Sunday, August 4, 2002, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.
She was born June 1, 1907, in Wiscoy Township, Minn., to William J. and Bridget Delia (Nagle) Guiney. On June 12, 1929, she married John Kryzer in Winona. He later died March 11, 1991.
Mrs. Kryzer was a life-long homemaker who enjoyed gardening, embroidering and sewing. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rushford and its Altar Society. She was a past member of St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church in Hart. She was also a 4-H leader.
Survivors include four children, Lucille (Raymond) Dvorak of Houston, John (Darlene) Kryzer Jr. of Minnesota City, Mary (Clarence) Mueller of Utica, and George (Betty) Kryzer of Rushford; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin brother - George, sister - Mabel, and two infant brothers.
A funeral mass was offered Aug. 7 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rushford, the Rev. James Hennessy officiated. Burial was in the St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Hart.
Pallbearers were grandsons.

Hilda J. Olson
Hilda J. Olson, 96, died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Hilda Josephine Eggebakken, a life-long area resident, was born Oct. 1, 1905, in Fillmore County. She grew up in the Highland area and attended Grebin rural grade school.
On January 20, 1926, she married Ingvald T. Olson at the Lanesboro parsonage. They farmed in the Peterson-Rushford area and moved to Peterson 1949.
She entered Good Shepherd in Feb. of 2000.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, WELCA and the Sarah Circle, and American Legion Auxiliary, Post 526 of Peterson. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, eating at McDonald’s and shopping at K-Mart.
Survivors include three sons, Palmer (Rosella) Olson of Rushford, Gordon (Karen) Olson of Rochester, and Donald “Lewie” (Beverly) of Peterson; three daughters, DeLores (Mrs. James) Wagner of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Jean (Mrs. Carl) Allen of Minneapolis, and Pat (Mrs. Gary) Schultz of Canton; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one half-sister Benita Johnson of St. Paul; one step-sister Petra Hanson of Chatfield. She was preceded in death by husband Ingvald on July 1, 1949, and four brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services were Aug. 6 at Grace Lutheran Church, Peter Huggenvik officiated. Burial was in East Grace Cemetery in Peterson.

Delores Moham
Delores Moham, 60, of Lewiston, died Monday (Aug. 5, 2002) afternoon in a one-vehicle automobile accident one mile west of Lewiston on Highway 14.
She was born Nov. 23, 1941, in Wisconsin to Raymond and Mary (Christ) Moham. She lived in the Lewiston her entire life. She worked for TRW of Rushford for many years.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Stockton.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura (Steve) Larimer of Lewiston; one grandson; three brothers, Harold Moham of Winona, Leonard Moham of Johnson City, Tenn., and Robert Moham of Cokato, Minn.; five sisters, Doris Zimmerman of White Bear Lake, Mary Lou Sim of McMinnville, Tenn., Virginia Moham of Stewartville, Susan Moseman of Oregon and Heidi Anderson of Tracy, Minn.
A stillborn daughter, her parents, one brother Richard, and a sister Charlotte preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Aug. 9 at Grace Lutheran Church in Stockton.

Leslee Lynn Fischer
Leslee Lynn Fischer, 43, died Monday (Aug. 12, 2002) at her home in Sheldon.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1958, in Chicago, Ill., to LeRoy and Arleen (Babiash) Fischer. She moved with her family to LaCrescent at age 10.
She graduated from LaCrescent High School and lived in LaCrescent until moving to Sheldon five years ago.
She had currently been employed at Riverside Electronics in Rushford.
She was a very devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her paternal grandmother, Vivian Lutkat; father, LeRoy Fischer, of LaCrosse, Wis.; mother, Arleen (Ronald) Nelson of LaCrescent; one son, Gregory Charles (Jackline) Fischer of Sun Prairie, Wis.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Michael Fischer of LaCrosse, Wis. and Mark Fischer of Kankakee, Ill.; two sisters, Cathy Fischer of Minneapolis, and Leann (Brian) Kruger of Waupun, Wis.; and by her fiance, Bob Knutson of Sheldon.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents and her paternal grandfather.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel, the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Crucifixion Catholic Cemetery in LaCrescent. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel.

JoAnn D. Rislove
JoAnn D. Rislove, 54, of Rushford died Saturday (Aug. 17, 2002) at her home.
She was born on November 27, 1947, in Caledonia, to Melvin “Bud” and Dolores (Bolduan) Schmidt. She was raised in Caledonia until the sixth grade when she moved with her family to Rushford. JoAnn graduated from Rushford High School in 1965. She had worked at Rushford State Bank since 1966.
On May 19, 1973, she married Doug Rislove in Rushford. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Rushford where she was a member of the Board of Stewards and was treasurer for three years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was in the past presidents group of the auxiliary.
JoAnn’s family was the center of her life. JoAnn was a devoted wife, mother, and aunt. She also enjoyed following Rushford-Peterson athletic events.
She is survived by her husband, Doug; mother, Dolores of Rushford; two daughters: Ellen Rislove of Hopkins and Leah Rislove of Rushford; two brothers: Richard (Amy) Schmidt of Sommerset, Wisc. and Jerry Schmidt of Waterloo, Iowa; one sister JanDeen (Mitch) Bublitz of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services were held Wed., Aug. 21, at the Rushford Lutheran Church with Rev. William Mueller officiating. Burial was at the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Roger H. Otis
Roger H. Otis, 69, of La Porte City, Iowa, died Monday (Aug. 19, 2002) at Methodist Hospital in Rochester from complications of leukemia.
He was born May 31, 1933, in Rushford, the son of Vernon and Verna (Kleist) Otis.
He married Muriel J. Iverson on Aug. 20, 1956, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was the manager for the La Porte City Telephone Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1998. He was also a former member of the La Porte City Chamber of Commerce, volunteer & EMT for the Fire Department and American Lutheran Church Council member.
He was a devoted father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Muriel; one son, David J. (Karen) Otis of Plymouth, Minn.; two daughters, Julie (Gib) Glasson of Billings, Montana, and Valarie L. (David) Reiter of La Porte City; two brothers, Don (Myrtle) of Houston and Dale (Linda) of Rochester; four sisters, Velma Himlie of Rushford, Jean (Donald) Wanek of Rochester, Amy (Richard) Schmidt of New Richmond, Wis., and Linda (Bruce) Hovland of Rushford; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Vera Bunke.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday (Aug. 23) at the American Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the West View Cemetery, both of LaPorte City. Visitation will be today 4-8 p.m. at Huisman Funeral Home of La Porte City, and one hour before services on Friday.
Memorials may be directed to the church.
