Sheila A. Keith
Sheila A. Keith, 44, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and formerly of Rushford, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at the Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born on Sept. 1, 1957, in Newport News, Virginia. She was raised in Newport News until age 10 when she moved with her family to Hawaii. She and her family moved to Connecticut when she was a teenager. In the mid 1980’s she moved to Rushford.
She had worked at the D.N.R. office in Rochester as a receptionist and was currently a student at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma.
Sheila was married and later divorced.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart where she enjoyed teaching the young children in Sunday school, as well as being in the church choir and was on the committee for the 125th anniversary celebration.
Her interests included reading, music and crafts.
She is survived by her parents John and Barbara “Glenda” Erdmann of Rushford; one brother, William (Julie) Chapman; grandmothers, Barbara Jackson-Davis and Esther Erdmann; grandparents, William Floyd and Dina Green; one nephew and one great-nephew; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, William Harley and Clifford Walker, and Willie and Effie Lee Green; and grandfathers, Carlton Jackson and Elmer Erdmann.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. today at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, the Rev. Frederick Buth will officiate.
Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel from 4:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, and also one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the St. John’s Lutheran Church entrance fund.

Evelyn L. Benson
Evelyn L. Benson, 67, of Kenyon, died Monday (Jan. 7, 2002) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Funeral services were Jan. 11 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon with Rev. Guy Redfield officiating. Burial in Meadow Ridge Memorial park in Faribault.
Evelyn Luelle Schlobohm was born May 16, 1934, to Walter and Esther (Bauer) in Faribault. After graduating from high school in 1952, she attended a College of Cosmetology and worked at the House of James in Minneapolis.
On Apr. 21, 1956, she married Sherman O. Benson (he is formerly from the Rushford area) in Medford. They lived in Rochester until he re-enlisted in the Air Force. They retired after 20 years in the Air Force.
Survivors include her husband; children; four sisters; two brothers.

Alma Olive Johns
Alma Olive Johns, 83, of St. Anne Hospice and formerly of Rushford, died Thursday (Jan. 17, 2002) at St. Anne Hospice.
She was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Arendahl Township of Fillmore County to Ole and Marie (Sande) Rue. She attended Arendahl grade school and is a graduate of Peterson High School.
She married Donald W. “Jake” Jons on March 11, 1939, at the church parsonage in Peterson. He preceded her in death Aug. 22, 1995.
Mrs. Johns is a past member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona, and its women’s organizations. She currently is a member of the Wilson Sunshine Club. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, flowers and her friends.
She is survived by one son, Donald “Buster” (Char) Johns of Lewiston; daughters, Marilyn (Ilot) Soland of Whalan, Barbara (Donald) Hatlevig of Winona, Bonnie (Richard) Buddin of Englewood, Colo., and Jolaine (Robin) Bowman of Waconia; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services were Jan. 21 at Rushford Lutheran Church, the Rev. David Watson officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Rushford.

Lillian E. Howe
Lillian E. Howe, 79, of Winona, died on Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2002) at the Intensive Care Unit of Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1922, in Yucatan Township, Houston County, to John and Gina Glenna Paulson. She married Roy J. Howe on May 4, 1940, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church.
She is a member of Central Lutheran Church and the BPOE #327.
She worked for Winona Monument Company and retired from J.C. Penney in 1984.
Mrs. Howe is survived by her son, James (Monique) Howe, La Crescent; daughter, Gloria (Romaine) Ashelin, Winona; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and special friend, Carl Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers - Joseph and Maurice Paulson, sisters - Doris Paulson and Myrtle Gravos, and granddaughter, Tracey Howe.
Funeral services were Jan. 19 at Central Lutheran Church, the Rev. Duane O. Salness officiated. Burial was at Highland Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Central Lutheran Church.

Ethel B. Golish
Ethel B. Golish, 93, died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Rushford, where she had been a resident since 1997.
She was born Sept. 17, 1908, in Pickwick to Marshall and Nancy Gates Cox.
She married Charles A. Goetz Nov. 24, 1926; he passed away April 4, 1943. She married Harry Golish July 14, 1950. He passed away March 17, 1990.
She worked at many jobs to support her eight children. She was a nurse and worked at Miller Waste Mills in Winona. She also helped to gather iron for the war effort.
Mrs. Golish made wedding dresses and wedding cake. She also made candy during Christmas. Her hobbies included gardening, raising rabbits and chickens, and crocheting.
She was a member of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Ethel is survived by her eight children, La Vonne (Leo) Schnieder, Charles (Arlene) Goetz, Frederick (Verlie) Goetz, Christina (Cecil) Decker, Sarah (Lennie) Turnmire, Joyce (Archie) Malone, Winifred (Richard) Unnasch, and Dennis (Dianne) Goetz; 35 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edson; sister, Edith; and great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Rose Goetz.
Memorial services are today (Jan. 24) at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Timothy Dost officiating. Burial will be in Pickwick Cemetery.
Visitation will be after noon today at the funeral home.

Milton Kenneth Bublitz
Milton Kenneth Bublitz, 70, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at Bates Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Hart to John and Linda (Gielow) Bublitz.
He and his wife, Shirley, moved to Bella Vista five years ago from Winona. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Bentonville, Ark. He was a baseball pitcher for 17 years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and hunting. He was a master carpenter and a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bublitz of Bella Vista; two sons, Michael (Selma) Bublitz of Winona and Mitchell (Jan Deen) Bublitz of Houston; three daughters, Susan (Jim) Brett of Houston, Stacy (Mark Frederickson of Winona, and Shannon Turley of Batavia, Ill.; two brothers, Marlin “Bud” Bublitz of Winona, and Karroll Bublitz of Winona; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Aug. 1 at Faith Lutheran Church, Bentonville, with the Rev. Todd Jones officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Braille Workers Inc., P.O. Box 5000, Yucaipa, Calif. 92399-1450 or to the American Diabetes Association, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock Ark. 72205.

Sharon Karlson
Sharon Karlson, 68, South Range, died August 2, 2000, at her home in South Range, Wis.
She was born on December 12, 1931 to Robert and Elizabeth Brannan. She attended St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School and graduated from the former East High School in 1950.
She graduated from UW-Superior in June 1954. She married John C. Karlson on June 17, 1954, and lived most of her life in Rushford, Minn.
Sharon was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake, was an avid reader and a lover of crossword puzzles.
She taught elementary school for 19 years in Houston, Minn. and following her retirement, she became a volunteer for RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program).
She is survived by five sons:, Jeffrey (Joy) Karlson, St. Michael, Minn, Robert (Valerie), Richfield, Minn., Rick, Rushford, Minn., Steven (Susan) Anoka, Minn., and Ted (Joette), River Falls, Wis.; one daughter: Laurie Johnson, Richfield, Minn.; seventeen grandchildren and two sisters: Nancy Bergstrom and Peggy Sislo, both of South Range, Wis.; one Brother: Charles (Sue) Brannan of Whiting, Indiana, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents; and three sisters: Roberta, Mary Lou and Betty Kay.
A rosary service was Aug. 6 conducted by Rev. Fr. Dean Buttrick. A Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 7 in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Sat., Aug. 12, 2000, in Rushford Minnesota.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Lisa Anderson, Daniel Karlson, Jana Karlson, Amy Karlson, Tricia Karlson and Kris Karlson. Honorary Pallbearers will also be her grandchildren: Kayla, Mandy, Ashley, Rachel, Peter, Trenton, Trevor, Bridgette, Kallie Ben and Kit Karlson.
Arrangements by the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home.

Vern L. Malmin
Vern L. Malmin, 76, passed away at his home on July 27, 2000.
Mr. Malmin was born in Peterson on March 2, 1924, to the late Carl and Bertha Malmin and was one of 14 remarkable children. He had lived in Racine since 1953. He was united in marriage to the former Elaine Konetchy in Peterson on July 12, 1947.
Mr. Malmin served in the United States navy during World War II. Mr. Malmin was a member of V.F.W. Post #1391 and the Moose Lodge of Racine. He took special pride in his work as an Electrician.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; two sons, Tom and Brad; one daughter, JoAnn; two grandsons; one granddaughter; four sisters, Barbara (Barney) Bishop, LaVaughn (Regis) Nolan, Jeanette Ruschmann, and Dian (Lew) Rossum; three brothers, Lincoln (Evaughn) Malmin, Robert Malmin, and Lowell (Jan) Malmin; and his special pal, Molly. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Craig; five brothers, Karl, Donald, Claire, Allan, Milford, and Curtis; and by one sister, Joyce.
Funeral services were at Wilson Funeral Home on July 30, the Rev. Jerry Anderson officiated. Memorials to Hospice Alliance or the Salvation Army have been suggested.
