Geraldine ‘Geri’ Overton
Geraldine “Geri” Overton, 68, Rushford, died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
She as born on July 19, 1932 in Rutherfordton, N.C., to Eliga and Mary (Goldsmith) Kuykendaal.
She married Larry Overton on June 5, 1967, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They moved to Minnesota in 1967.
Mrs. Overton worked at Rush Products in Rushford. She retired in 1994. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson and the church circle there. She was also a member of the Byron American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 119.
Mrs. Overton is survived by her husband Larry of Rushford; children: Judy Caudell of Chatfield, Gail (Gerald) Trocinski of LaCrescent, Debbie (Larry) Vomhof of Chatfield, Cindy (Ron) Lund of Chatfield, Sam (Karen) Harrison of Lewiston, David Harrison of Chatfield, Jeff (Cindy) Harrison of Winona, Tina (John) Williams of Rushford, and Mike (Connie) Harrison of Winona; step children: Terry (Forrest) Sullivan, Denise (Jack) Nave, Esther Overton, all of Fredricksburg, Vir., and Stephen (Patsy) Oveton of Murphysboro, Ark.; 24 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;; nine step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren; brothers: Charlie Bass, Linbergh Byers, Jack Crain, and Sam Newton; sisters: Josephine Smith, Tinsy Starnes, and Dollie Rae Wishon; and special friend: “like a sister” Joyce Waters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Mark, Tom and Floyd Bass.
Funeral services were May 22 at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Lanesboro, the Rev. Norman W. Wahl officiated. Burial was in the West Grace Lutheran Cemetery.

Doris Brunner
Doris Elaine Brunner, 70, of Rushford, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
She was born Nov. 2, 1930, in Winona, to George and Ella (Golish) Buege. She married Harvey Robert Brunner on May 27, 1950.
Mrs. Brunner retired from Lake Center Industries in Rushford.
She is survived by two sons, Bruce (Sherryl) Brunner of Veneta, Ore., and Brian (Sherrie) Brunner of Lakeville, Minn.; two daughters, Jeanette (Bob) White of Mankato, Minn., and Paula (Rick) Pruka of Winona; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Everett (Clara) Buege of Orangedale, Calif., Ray (Lorraine) Buege of St. Charles, and Glen (Rosie) Buege of Winona; two sisters-in-law, Lorna Buege of Anchorage, Alaska, and Bernice Buege of Winona; and very special friends Pat and Dan Corcoran of Rushford.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, sister, Violet Malsker; and brothers, Wayne and Hank Buege.
Funeral services were May 25 at Hoff Funeral Homes - Cook Rushford Chapel, the Rev. William Kulas officiated. Burial was in the Oak Grove City Cemetery in Rushford.

Hubert R. Prudoehl
Hubert R. Prudoehl, 87, of Rushford, died Sunday, (June 10, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
He was born on February 5, 1914, in St. Charles, Minn., to Berthold and Elizabeth Prudoehl. He was raised in St. Charles, served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Prudoehl married Phyllis Larson on October 8, 1948 in Rushford.
He worked for Roverud Construction Company for many years.
Mr. Prudoehl was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church, Murphy - Johnson American Legion, and the V.F.W. in Rushford. He enjoyed card playing with his buddies over the years, as well as fishing, collecting antiques, and feeding birds.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Rushford; two daughters: Ann Prudoehl of Plymouth, Minn., and Jane (Manish) Nandy of Romania; and two granddaughters. One brother and one sister preceded Hubert in death.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Murphy - Johnson American Legion Post.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday, at the church. Hoff Funeral Homes - Cook Rushford Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Kenneth Severud
Kenneth Severud, former Lutheran Brotherhood Corporate Secretary and a former member of its Board of Directors, died May 2 at North Ridge Care Center in New Hope.
He was born in Fountain, Minn., and was a 1929 graduate of Rushford High School. He received an economics degree from Macalester College in 1933.
He joined the Lutheran Brotherhood staff in 1934 and held several positions before becoming Corporate Secretary in 1955, a post he held until 1975. He served on the board from 1971 to 1982.
Survivors include his wife Helen, of New Hope; sons Peter of Brooklyn Park, James of Plymouth and Robert of Greenwich, Conn.; daughter Susan of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; and two grat-grandchildren.
Services were held May 7 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4100 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis.

Grace Edna Busian
Grace Edna Busian, 89, of Good Shepherd Home in Rushford died Thursday (Mar. 29, 2001) at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Saratoga Township of Winona County to Frank and Harterowe (Cox) Gerry. She graduated from Winona State Teachers College and taught country school for seven years. She and Edwin Busian were married Sept. 15, 1938. They farmed south of St. Charles before moving to town in 1958 to own and operate the St. Charles Greenhouse until their retirement. They lived in Winona for several years. Mr. Busian died in 1996.
Mrs. Busian has lived at the Good Shepherd Home for the past three years.
She belonged to the St. Charles United Church of Christ where she was organist. She was active in the Sunshine Chapter #98 Order of the Eastern Star in St. Charles and was organist for them. Mr. and Mrs. Busian traveled extensively to Hawaii and to Europe. They were well known for their annual ‘Busian Breakfast’ in their home, a tradition still continued at their church.
A sister, Mary Ellen Ann Coulson of St. Charles, and nine nieces and nephews survive. In addition to her husband, a brother Reuben Gerry, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Apr. 3 at St. Charles United Church of Christ, the Rev. Paul Wissink officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Saratoga Cemetery.

Milton S. Helleland
Milton S. Helleland, 75, died March 27, 2000, at Grandview Care Center in Blaire where he resided since February. He was born in Rushford on April 13, 1924, to Inga (Magnuson) and Rasmus Helleland.
He married Virginia Czapiewski. They were later divorced. He married Marian Foss Kopp on November 28, 1968.
Mr. Helleland worked as a plumbing construction worker for American Plumbing in Winona. He retired in 1987.
Mr. Helleland resided in Trempealeau, Wis., where he was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; son, Maynard (Susan) of Trempealeau; daughter, Bonnie (Raymond) Durnen of Winona; stepson, Larry (Mary) Kopp of Trempealeau; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and one step-grandson; one brother, Wallace (Vonnie) of Rushford; and three sisters, Madelyn Rustad of Rushford; Sylvia Youman of Fridley, and Idella Moore of West Covina, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
Funeral services were Mar. 31 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, the Rev. Jerry Hanson officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Centerville, Wis.

Arthur H. Kulsrud
Arthur H. Kulsrud, 91, of rural Lanesboro, died Friday (March 31, 2000) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
He was born May 13, 1908, on his family’s farm in Carrolton Township, Fillmore County, the son of Henry and Inger ‘Jennie’ (Hendrickson) Kulsrud. He farmed with his family until purchasing the farm in 1952 remaining there until his retirement in 1998.
He married Lilija ‘Lily’ Bredeis on Sept. 18, 1955, in Minneapolis. The couple made their home on the farm and wintered in Yuma, Ariz. Mrs. Kulsrud died Sept. 17, 1988. He became a resident of the Bremmer Suites in Rushford in Dec. 1998.
He was a lifelong member of Union Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro and served on the church council and cemetery board. He also served on various boards and organizations in the community.
He is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Apr. 3 at the Tauwald Funeral Home, south chapel in Preston.

Olive Loftesnes
Olive Helen Loftesnes, 88, Minot and Granville, N.D., died Tuesday (Mar. 27, 2001) in a Minot medical center.
She was born June 19, 1912, to Carl and Helen (Benston) Skarstad in Fillmore County, where she attended school and spent her early years. The family moved to North Dakota in 1927, eventually settling in Norwich.
She married Clarence Loftesnes Dec. 10, 1930, in Fargo. They farmed in the Granville area. Mr. Loftesnes died in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter Corinne (Eugene) Keyes, Towner, N.D.; sons, Howard (Jenell), Bismarck, N.D., Everett (Betty), Warrenton, Ore.; daughters-in-law, Frances of Minot, Christel of Aurora, Colo., and Sandra of Eau Claire, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Hatleli of Rushford and Ardis Lee, Minot.
Funeral services were March 30 at North Prairie Lutheran Church, Simcoe, with burial in the church cemetery.

H. Jeanette Reps
H. Jeanette Reps, 72, of rural Utica, passed away Saturday (Mar. 31, 2001) at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, a week after suffering a heart attack.
She was born June 29, 1928, to G. Robert and Helen (Nuszloch) Randall. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1946. Jeanette and Paul Reps Jr. were married on Aug. 28, 1948, in Winona. Mrs. Reps was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ/Evangelical Church in America of Lewiston. She and her husband farmed in the Fremont area their entire married life. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and most of all spending time with her family.
Mrs. Reps is survived by her husband Paul, two sons Randy (Lori) of Lewiston, Dean (Kristi) of Utica; two daughters, Leann (Ordell) Jacobson of Rushford, Lonna (Dave) Benson of Lewiston; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law.
Her parents, two brothers, an infant son, and an infant grandson preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Apr. 4 at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles (due to the current construction of St. Paul’s Church). Interment was in the Lewiston Public Cemetery.
Grandsons were pallbearers.

Ervin W. Haedtke
Ervin W. Haedtke, 71, of Route 2, Winona (Wilson) died Wednesday (April 5, 2000).
He was born march 5, 1929, in Warren Township, to Herbert and Helen Warnken Haedtke. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict in 1954-55.
He farmed in Wilson Township. He lived in Winona county his whole life.
He married Karen Christopherson Aug. 16, 1958, in Winona. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church; he was a member of the National Farmer’s Organization for many years and served as its treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Lewiston American Legion Post No. 90 and served on the Board of Frank Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Helen (Ron) Philipps of Witoka, Cindy (Dave) Loberg of Red Wing, and Randy Haedtke of Wilson; four grandchildren; brothers, Willard (Elayne) Haedtke of Winona and Jack (Carole) Haedtke of Paso Robles, Calif.; sisters, Doris Hanson of Winona and Arlene Prinzing of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Giversen; and a brother, Vernon Haedtke.
Funeral services were April 10 at Grace Presbyterian Church with Rev. Hugh Drennan officiating. Burial was in Frank Hill Cemetery.
