Memorial services were Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 for Catherine F. Blackowiak, 67, of Excelsior. She died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born Jan. 27, 1937 at Laketown Township, Carver County, Minn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Koehnen (Katherine M. Vogel). On Aug. 27, 1955 she married Chester F. Blackowiak at St. John’s Catholic Church in Excelsior.
She was a member of the Excelsior Legion Auxiliary. She liked fishing and traveling. She loved her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents George and Katherine Koehnen, brothers Dave Koehnen, and Val Koehnen, sister Leona Latterner, sisters-in-law Fairy Koehnen and Ana Koehnen.
She is survived by husband of 49 years Chester, son and daughter-in-law Randy and Alison Blackowiak of Chanhassen, daughter Jill Zipf of Waconia, grandchildren Dani, Carly and Chris Blackowiak, Samantha Zipf, sisters Vernice Weiland of Waconia, Lois Bauer of St. Bonifacius, Mildred Gothmann of Waconia, Jane Lisle of Houston, Texas, brothers and sisters-in-law George and Eilleen Koehnen of Excelsior, Dale and Mary Koehnen of Zephyr Hills, Florida, Lee Koehnen of Victoria, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill and Diana Blachowiak of Minnetonka, Stan and Sandy Blackowiak of Circle Pines, James and Geri Blackowiak of St. Louis Park, Sharon and Bob Dalen of Pierz, Fairy Mae Okermann of Little Falls, Angie Mohler of Little Falls, George Blackowiak of Merrifields. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial service was Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, the Father Joseph Gallatin officiating.

Arlen Lee Dostal, 73
Arlen Lee Dostal, 73, of rural Lester Prairie, MN, died early Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at his residence.
He was born July 17, 1931 in Silver Lake, MN, the son of Frank and Anna Komer Dostal.
On Aug 27, 1952, Arlen L. Dostal and Grace M. Kosek were married in Glencoe, MN. Arlen was employed for 39 years at Lester's Building Systems. Following his retirement he fixed bicycles. He enjoyed John Deere tractors and working with wood.
he is survived by his wife, Grace M. Dostal; children Debra (Jerry) Strauss and Sherry Paschke and fiance' Darryl Kieser, all of Winsted, MN, and Kim Dostal of Montevideo, MN and fiance' Sandy Johnson; four grandchildren, Matt Strauss, Dena (Bill) Fiske, Brian Paschke and Nicholas (Amanda) Dostal; a great-grandchild, Megan Benecke; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom (Bev) Kosek of Norwood/Young America, MN, Mike (Diane) Kosek of Waconia, MN, Mary Ann (Ronald) Vanderlinde of Norwood/Young America, Barb (Wayne) Quast of Winsted; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxanna Blankenhagen, and by his parents, Frank and Anna Dostal.
A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 20 at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. Pastor Gerald L. Boldt officiated. The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.

Woodrow M. “Woody”Hecksel, 85
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 for Woodrow M. “Woody”Hecksel, 85, of Watertown, Minn. He died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at his home in Watertown, Minn.
He was born April 30, 1919 at Hollywood Township, Carver County, Minn., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hecksel (Minnie Lange). He was baptized May 4, 1919 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted and confirmed April 9, 1933 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township. On Sept. 18, 1940 he married Ardis A. Guetzkow at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany. Woody and Ardis were married for 64 years. He was always very family orientated loving his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted for 55 years, having served many church offices as board member of Oak Lake School in Watertown, Woodland Township Board, Wright County Board in Hollywood and Watertown Townships and then buying a farm in Woodland Township. He moved to Watertown in 2000. He enjoyed his Belgian horses raising and selling them. He also used them to haul wedding couples around and gave hay rides. He also did custom work for other farmers.
He was preceded in death by daughter Janice Barfnecht, son Lennis Hecksel, grandson Darwin Barfnecht, parents Henry and Minnie Hecksel, brothers Raymond and Wallace Hecksel, father-in-law and mother-in-law Gustav and Lena Guetzkow.
He is survived by wife Ardis, children and spouses Marlin and Marlene Hecksel of Watertown, Eldron and Sharon Hecksel of Watertown, Eldron and Sharon Hecksel of Winsted, June and Gerald Gongoll of Waverly, Joyce and Ronald Schmidt of Maple Plain, Jane and Ronald Dressel of Maple Plain, son-in-law and wife Donald and Diane Barfnecht of Watertown, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Luella Hecksel of Winsted, Vernice Narr of Watertown, Mervanna and Clinton Spomer of Watertown, nieces, nephews, other relatives.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Watertown, the Rev. Jeff Harter officiating. Interment at Watertown Public Cemetery, Watertown. Casketbearers were Godchildren Alan Hecksel, Jeffrey Hecksel, Marlow Hecksel, Ronald Jorgensen, Keith Spomer and Russell Lange.Honorary casketbearers were Godchildren Valeria Schubert and Oriel Wolff.

Alice H. Kubasch, 97
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 for Alice H. Kubasch, 97, of Watertown, Minn. She died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Elim Home in Watertown, Minn. She died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Elim Home in Watertown, Minn.
She was born June 24, 1907 at Hollywood Township, Carver County, Minn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Friedrich Strehlke (Margaretha Lutter.) She was baptized July 14, 1907 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township, and confirmed April 9, 1920 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township. On April 24, 1928 she married Walter O. Kubasch at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township.
Alice and Walter had 59 years of marriage. She was a very active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by husband Walter O. Kubasch, son-in-law George Grunklee, parents Friedrich and Margaretha Strehlke, sister Agnes Schumacher, brothers Walter and Martin Strehlke.
She is survived by children and spouses Glorianne Grunklee of Boulder, Colo., Donley and Janice Kubasch of Moscow, Idaho, John and Lanny Kubasch of Scottsdale, Ariz., grandchildren Ann Michele, Nancy and James McCarthy, Amy and John Gregg, Heather and James Hallows, Melissa and Chuck Kim, great grandchildren Dylan, Tyson, Michael, Joshua, Noah and Kalea, sister Cordella Spomer of Delano, sister-in-law Erma Kubasch of New Germany, caregivers Vernon and Darlene Strehlke of New Germany, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Watertown Township, Watertown, the Rev. Bill Hillyer officiating. Interment at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Watertown Township, Watertown.
Casketbearers were Donald Schumacher, Hilton Born, Gordon Kubasch, James Kubasch, Mark Strehlke, and Harold Kusske.

Russell S. Moe, 72
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 for Russell S. Moe, 72, of Carver, Minn. He died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, Minn. He was born July 25, 1932 at Hennepin County, Minn., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moe (Eleanor Bruhn.) He was baptized in the Baptist Faith. On July 13, 1968 he married Dorothy A. Jaekel.
He was a very caring husband. He was very helpful to his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Henry and Eleanor Moe, brother Donald Moe, baby sister Mary Ann Moe, father-in-law and mother-in-law Arthur and Viola Jaekel.
He is survived by wife Dorothy Moe of Carver, step son Cary Dean Vollrath of Nisswa, brothers and sisters-in-law Edward Moe of Waconia, James and Nancy Moe of Willow River, Ann Moe of Shorewood, sisters and brothers-in-law Shirley and Jay Gregg of St. Bonifacius, Ann and Dino Tumbuan of Calif., nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. from Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia, the Rev. Jeff Harter officiating. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Waconia.
Casketbearers were Cary Dean Vollrath, Dave Herzog, Martin Latzig, James Graham, Wayne Gregg, and Frederick Tumbuan.

Thomas M. Stacy, 63
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 for Thomas Michael Stacy, 63, of Excelsior. He died suddenly on Dec. 24, 2004 in Minneapolis.
He was born Aug. 6, 1941 in Green Bay, Wisc., the son of Benjamin and Ruth (Baenen)Stacy.
He was preceded in death by parents Benjamin and Ruth Stacy, brothers: Don Houghgreve and James Stacy, father-in-law Curtis Fields.
He is survived by wife of 42 years, Donna (Fields), son Tom Stacy II(Phetsamone); daughter Michelle Stacy, sisters:Betty Beck, Sheree (Charlie)Moore; brother, Richard; mother-in-law Syble Fields, sisters-in-law Eileen Houghgreve and Susan Stacy; brother-in-law Fred Beck, grandchildren: Savannah, Clarity, Alena, Marissa and Benjamin, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Victoria Catholic Church, Victoria.

Rosella A. (Sally)Weinzierl, 91
Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 for Rosella A. (Sally)Weinzierl, 91, of St. Bonifacius, Minn. She died Saturday, Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2004 at Beverly Healthcare in Excelsior.
She was born Feb. 18, 1913 at St. Bonifacius, Minn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Thesing (Katie Geyen). She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius. On May 24, 1932 she married Anthony J. Weinzierl, Sr., at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius.
She enjoyed gardening, working with her flowers, embroidering and quilting.
She was preceded in death by husband Anthony Weinzierl, Sr., grandchildren Terry Weinzierl, Andrew Jacques and Julie Jacques, great grandson Chris Weinzierl, parents Andrew and Katie Thesing, sisters Lorraine Logelin, Marie Goetze and Gertrude Segner.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Laura and Norbert Rademacher of Waconia, Marlys and Donald Jacques of Chaska, Myrene and Frank Whitaker of Hill City, sons and daughters-in-law Tony and Carol Weinzierl of St. Bonifacius, Jack and Marlane Weinzierl of St. Bonifacius, Jerry and Sue Weinzierl of Mayer, Rich Weinzierl and friend Leah of Waconia, 26 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, sisters and brother-in-law Irene Boll of St. Bonifacius, Susan and Milfred Moldenhauer of St. Bonifacius, Dorothy Fasching of Waconia, Ruth Boll of St. Bonifacius, Catherine Thesing of Waconia, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Evelyn and Lawrence Schuler of St. Bonifacius, Rose Logelin of St. Bonifacius, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Boniface Catholic Church, St. Bonifacius, the Father Joseph Gallitin officiating. Interment at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, St. Bonifacius.

Matthew Woodford, 27, and Logan Woodford
Matthew Woodford, 27, and his unborn son, Logan, of Norwood Young America died on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in Baldwin, Wisc.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. Interment was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were made with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
Survivors include wife Lora, daughter Madalyn, parents Douglas and Lucille Woodford of New London, brothers Lucas (Rebecca) Woodford, Joshua Woodford, parents-in-law Randall and Mary Lou Wroge of Norwood Young America.

Linus Clemens Westrup, 66
Linus Clemens Westrup, 66, of Grand Rapids, MN, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 14, 2004 at the Providence Place in Minneapolis, MN.
He was born May 13, 1938 in Winsted, MN, the son of Leonard and Anna Remer Westrup. Linus graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Winsted in 1956. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Linus was formerly employed at Red Owl Produce as a receiving clerk. He was a member of The Grand Rapids American Legion Post. Linus enjoyed snowmobiling and maintaining and managing snowmobile trails around Grand Rapids. He also enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by children, Julie A. Bodemer, Janet L. Westrup, Jeffrey L. Westrup and James A. Westrup; five grandchildren; his mother, Anna Westrup; sisters and brothers, Maryann Nelson, Helen Eckberg, Mona Fillar, Leona Irmiter, Kenny Westrup, Dave Westrup and Kathy Quast; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Westrup, and by a son, Jared Westrup.
A memorial Mass was held Saturday, Dec. 18 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant and inurnment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Urn bearers were Kenneth and David Westrup. The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.

Charles P. Kuebler
Charles P. Kuebler, 58, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian burial was held Nov. 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Maggie) of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Laura and husband Ron Horman of Clements, Lisa and husband Denis Berdan of New Ulm; sons, Brian and wife Lisa Kuebler of Lake Crystal, Dan Kuebler and fiancee Amanda Braun of Lake Crystal; grandchildren Nicholas, Samantha and Cody Horman and Hannah and Regan Berdan; sisters, Beatrice and husband Milton Witt of West St. Paul, Janet and husband Gilbert Hillesheim of New Ulm; Kathy and husband Frank Vogel of Sanborn; brothers, George and wife Esther Kuebler of Arlington, John and wife Delores Kuebler of St. James, Glen Kuebler of Sleepy Eye; aunt, Anna Weicherding; and uncle, Max Hoffmann. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Sellner.
Charles was born Aug. 15, 1941, in rural Springfield to George and Mathilda (Hoffmann) Kuebler. He attended country school and Sleepy Eye Public School. On April 8, 1967, he married Margaret Schreiner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He worked at West Side Garage, Brown County Co-op, and for the past 30 years he worked for the city of Sleepy Eye, most currently for the water department. He has lived his entire life in Sleepy Eye, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the New Ulm Area Sport Fisherman, the N.R.A., and was a past member of the Sleepy Eye Fire Department. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors.
