Leona M. Zarn, 88, of Sleepy Eye died Dec. 14, 1999 at Minneapolis. Services were Friday, Dec. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria and husband Dale Miller of St. Paul Park; sons, Daryl and wife Bonitta Zarn of Finlayson, Lannie and wife Bonnie Zarn of Sleepy Eye, and Leon "Red" and wife Sandy Zarn of Sleepy Eye; foster son, Melvin Brown of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Gladys Zarn of Sleepy Eye and Ollie Radloff of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, and her brother Elmer.
Leona was born Nov. 2, 1911 in Milford Township, Brown County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Gerholz) Radloff. While she was growing up, Leona attended country school in Milford Township and worked on the family farm. On June 18, 1935, she was united in marriage to George Zarn in New Ulm. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Sleepy Eye. Leona worked for Tony Downs Foods in St. James and also worked seasonally at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye.
Casket bearers were Jeff Zarn, Ryan Zarn, Sean Zarn, Randy Miller, Ricky Miller and Michael Zarn.

Veronica A. Windschitl, 101, of Sleepy Eye died Dec. 14, 1999 in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, Dec. 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughters, Dolores Johanson of San Diego, Calif., Alice Manderfeld of Mankato, Rita Fagen of Bountiful, Utah, and Bernice Gordon of Bloomington; son, James and wife Pat Windschitl of Virginia Beach, Va; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Haeny of Austin, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Alexander of Green Bay, Wis., Veronica Weicherding, Loraine Windschitl and Ann Deibele, all of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George on March 27, 1955; grandsons, Robert Manderfeld, Jr., Thomas Manderfeld, and Charles Manderfeld; sister, Dolores in infancy; brothers, Joseph, Leonard, Victor, Edward and Sylvester; sons-in-law, Joe Johanson, Robert Manderfeld, Murvine Fagen, and Bill Gordon.
Veronica was born Dec. 3, 1898, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, Minnesota, the daughter of John F. and Susan (Ludewig) Weicherding. Veronica was united in marriage to George Nicholas Windschitl on Sept. 10, 1919, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Sleepy Eye. Veronica has been a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center since 1992.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, and the Divine Providence auxiliary. She enjoyed growing flowers, especially African violets, playing cards and bingo.

Louis J. Geiger, 91, of New Ulm died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Services are Wednesday, Dec. 29 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Delores Geiger of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Jack Brush, Linda and Gary Watson, Diane and Ron Vonderharr, all of New Ulm, Betty and Mike Meinhardt of Friendship, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Shirley Geiger of New Ulm, son, Les Geiger and his special friend Jan Brewer, both of New Ulm; daughter-in-law, Lori Geiger of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rote of Janesville, Wis.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernice and Vernon Brey of Janesville, Wis.; 27 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Leroy "Lee" Geiger; great-grandson Bryan Geiger; brothers, Robert, Gerhardt and Walter Geiger; sister, Violet Nelson; and niece Patty Lingbeek.
Louis was born Oct. 20, 1908, in Albin Township, Brown County, to Louis and Elisa (Liesmann) Geiger. He married Delores Brey on March 14, 1940 at the East Sveadahl Lutheran Church in Nelson Township, Brown County. After marriage they lived in Sleepy Eye until 1952 when they moved to New Ulm. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1940 until 1962 when he was injured on the job and had to retire. Other part time jobs he held were janitor at the Maid Rite Cafe in New Ulm, gardener and groundskeeper for Don Dannheim in New Ulm, and other various jobs around New Ulm.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and had been a resident of the nursing home since Sept. 30, 1998.
Casket bearers are grandsons, Randy Geiger, Mike Geiger, Joey Vonderharr, Les Geiger, Jr., Kevin Watson and Mike Meinhardt, Jr.

Anthony "Tony" M. Schroepfer, 92, of Sleepy Eye died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Funeral Mass was Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his daughters, LaDonna and husband Alphonse Mathiowetz of Comfrey, Theresia and husband Ernest Kretsch of New Ulm, Sylvia Braun of Sleepy Eye and Kathleen and husband Richard Marcus of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sons, Rob and wife Linda Schroepfer, Dick and wife Lindy Schroepfer, Anthony Jr. and wife Shirley Schroepfer, all of Sleepy Eye; son-in-law, David Jensen of Bloomington; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Angie Sturm of Springfield and Frieda Haas of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Agnes Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye and Valaria Simmet of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Brigitta, daughter Barbara Jensen, three grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Louisa Zwaschka, Norbert and Leo Schroepfer, and Martha Windschitl, and brothers-in-law, Henry Haas and Mike Sturm.
Tony was born July 17, 1907 in Albin Township, Brown County, Minnesota, the son of Anton and Theresia (Prokosch) Schroepfer. He grew up in Albin Township, attending District 33 country school. After he completed his schooling, he farmed in Albin Township. Tony was united in marriage to Brigitta Soukup on Sept. 7, 1931, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They made their home in Albin Township where they farmed until 1969 when they retired and moved to Sleepy Eye.
Tony was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Aid Association and the Sleepy Eye Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards, old time music, dancing and visiting with friends and family.
Casket bearers are Brad Kretsch, Steven Jensen, John Mathiowetz, Brian Schroepfer, Dan Braun, Jason Schroepfer and Scott Schroepfer.

Helen R. Sellner, 75, of Sleepy Eye died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian burial was at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Dec. 31, with burial in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew; five sons, Tom and wife Kathy of Sleepy Eye, Dominic and wife Julie of Sleepy Eye, John and wife Vicki of Sleepy Eye, Andrew Jr. of Sleepy Eye, and Jim and wife Judy of Comfrey; four daughters, Jean and husband Lyle Turbes of New Ulm, Jeanette and husband Steve Lax of Sleepy Eye, Monica and husband Rick Lax of Sleepy Eye, and JoAnn and husband Ken Schumacher of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Greg, Kurt, Josh, Noah, Ashley, Kristin and Jennifer Sellner, Toni, Jodi, Lori, Paul and Alex Turbes, Jeremy, Mike, Mark, Melissa, Molly and Jonathan Lax, and William and Emily Schumacher; sister, Donna and husband Sylvan Schumacher of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Leona Seidl of Sleepy Eye and Georgeen Dietz of Arizona; brother-in-law, Philip and wife Catherine Sellner of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clarence Dietz; sister, Betty Dietz; and grandson, Christopher Lax.
Helen was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Kenosha, Wis., the daughter of Joseph P. and Louise (Schwinghammer) Dietz. At the age of five, her family moved to Springfield. Two years later, the family then moved to Sleepy Eye. Helen attended St. Mary's School and graduated in 1942. After high school, she worked at Pietrus Egg Drying Plant for several years and for a short time at Del Monte. On Oct. 7, 1952, Helen was united in marriage to Andrew Sellner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple then moved to the farm south of Sleepy Eye. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, knitting, crossword puzzles, and crocheting-in which she crocheted an afghan for each of her 20 grandchildren. Helen also enjoyed feeding and watching birds and spending time with her family.
Casket bearers were Doug Dietz, Michael Lax, Myron Seidl, Jeremy Lax, Lenny Seidl, and Phil Sellner.

Rosemary Wendinger, 94, of Franklin, and formerly of New Ulm and the Fairfax area died Friday evening, Dec. 31, 1999, at the Franklin Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, Jan. 4, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm.
Survivors include sons, Edmund Wendinger and his wife Doris of Sleepy Eye, James Wendinger and his wife Phyllis of Fairfax; daughter-in-law, Maryann Wendinger of Sleepy Eye; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; stepsister, Dorothy Gephart of New Ulm; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Eugene; one great-grandchild; and two sisters.
Rosemary Rubischko, the daughter of Felix and Marie (Fast) Rubischko, was born Oct. 27, 1905, in Renville County, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm and at a young age moved with her family to New Ulm, where she attended parochial school. She married Henry Wendinger June 12, 1927, in Fairfax. Together they farmed in Renville County until retiring in the late 1960s. Her husband died in 1974. She has lived in New Ulm for many years, and was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax.

Ronald James Hansen, 46, of Rogers, Arkansas, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at St. Mary Rogers Hospital. Services will be Thursday, Jan. 6, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Rogers, with interment in the St. Vincent Cemetery. Callison-Lough Funeral Chapel of Rogers handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Hansen of Rogers; his father, Harold C. Hansen of Rogers; and two sisters, Rita Hansen and Ruth Hansen, both of Rogers. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Ronald was born Aug. 11, 1953, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Harold C. and Charlene (Bunda) Hansen. He served his country as a Red Beret and pilot in the Vietnam Conflict and continued to serve his country in the years that followed. He served his community as a police officer and county deputy in Iowa. He held a degree in psychology and authored several published professional articles in the discipline. He married Kathleen Sellner of Sleepy Eye in 1973. He moved to the Rogers area in 1979 from Pocohanas, Iowa. Ron was an entrepreneur and businessman all his life. He was a leader in the field of computer technology. He was owner and president of Arkansas Technology Distributing Corporation, Air Tec Computers of Rogers, AT Transportation, NWANET, and N.W. Sail. He was an inventor, marketing his archery scopes as ATC Archery.
He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church of Rogers, the Rogers Area Chamber of Commerce, the National Rifle Association, the LDRS Rocketry Association, the Benton County Flying Tigers, the Rogers Kiwanis, and was a charter member and past president of the Rogers Exchange Club. He enjoyed farming, sailing, golf, archery, rifle and black powder shooting, scuba diving, photography, model planes and rockets, cooking, wine making, and making "spud guns." He will be remembered as a generous man who supported Youth Bridge, St. Jude's Hospital, and gave personal scholarships to many Rogers high school students. He strongly advocated a good education for local youth.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the American Heart Association.

Norbert L. Deml, 84, of New Ulm, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation continues from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday morning at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Deml of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Rose Deml; niece, Myrtle Wolf; nephews, Joseph Deml, and Leo and his wife Helen Zangl, all of New Ulm; and by great-nieces and great-nephews.
Norbert was born Aug. 1, 1915 in New Ulm to Joseph and Clara (Gales) Deml. He attended New Ulm Public School and later the Holy Trinity Catholic School. He married Marie Gales on Dec. 10, 1943 at Florence, South Carolina. He worked at the Eagle Roller Mills in New Ulm and then he worked for New Ulm Telecom in New Ulm for 27 years, retiring in December of 1979. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.

Baltos Entinger was born Jan. 6, 1909, on a farm near Iona, Minn., to Mathias and Theresa Wermerskirchen Entinger. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Columba School in Iona. Baltos farmed with his father until his father's death in 1930. Baltos then farmed with his brother and continued living with his mother and sisters. They moved into Iona in 1950. Baltos worked as a farm hand for many of his Iona neighbors. He moved to the Southgate Apts. in Slayton in 1990. Baltos became a resident of Slayton Manor in 1995 and died there on April 21, 2000, at the age of 91. He was a life member of St. Columba Church in Iona. Baltos enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers and music.
Survivors include two sisters, Sally Maiers of Sleepy Eye, and Dolores and husband Clarence Kremer of Worthington; and many nieces and nephews. His parents; five brothers, Aloysius, Raymond, Lawrence, Peter and Richard; and three sisters, Margaret, Elizabeth and Regina, preceded him in death.
Services were at St. Columba Church in Iona on Monday, April 24, with interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Entinger, Jerry Entinger, Dennis Sieve, Joe Cody, Loren Kremer and Donald Entinger.

Stanley Michael Sobocinski, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Sleepy Eye. Services were Monday, Jan. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye, with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Sleepy Eye; children, Stan Jr. and wife Sharon of Apple Valley, Mark of Hamel, Paul and wife Candy of Wabasso, Barbara and husband Mike Szostkowski of St. Paul, Thomas and wife Prudence of Leysin, Switzerland, Charles and wife Cindy of Barnesville, Robert and wife Lynn of New Prague, and Carole Steffl of Maple Plain; grandchildren, Tim, Dan, Brian, Megan, Chad, Sara, Mike, Karina, Paula Kaye, Steven, Scott, Riva, Sonya, Sophie, Hannah, Melissa, Matt, John, Emily and Kathryn; sisters, Mary Ostrowski, Rose and husband Charles Polkoski and Catherine Corno; and many nieces and nephews in New York. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen, Jenny, Sophie, and Tessie; and brothers, Charles and Bruno Sobocinski.
Stan was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Henry and Anna Sobocinski. He grew up in Long Island City where he attended and graduated from school in 1930. Stan worked for several years as a salesman and fuel oil delivery trucker for Petroleum Heat and Power Co. in Brooklyn. In April 1941, he entered the United States Army and was trained as an artillery mechanic. On Feb. 21, 1944, he was united in marriage to Margaret Zschetzsche at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Following their marriage, Stan returned to the European Theatre, including the Battle of the Bulge from 1944-45. After the war, the couple resided and farmed in the Sleepy Eye area. Stan retired from farming in 1976, and the couple moved into town in 1978. He was an active member of the National Farmers Organization, Minnesota Groundswell, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Aid Association. His hobbies included fishing and woodworking.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.

Lillian Caroline Schneider, 94, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of International Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, in Sleepy Eye. Services will be Thursday, Jan. 13, 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Robert and wife Zula Schneider of Roswell, N.M.; daughters, Doris and husband Robert Novotny of Sleepy Eye, Carole and husband John Irsik of Beaumont, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Carl Sagen of Sacramento, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brother, Edward; sister, Pearl; and grandson, Carl Novotny.
Lillian was born March 18, 1905, in Edmore, N.D., the daughter of Martin and Dora (Rye) Sagen. She grew up and graduated from Edmore High School. Lillian then attended normal school in Valley City, N.D., and later taught country school in Edmore. She moved with her family to International Falls where she worked at the Craig Hospital and earned her LPN. She later challenged the board and received her RN. Lillian married Raymond C. Schneider on July 4, 1926, in St. Paul. They made their home in International Falls and Lillian worked at the Falls Memorial Hospital and was an industrial nurse at the Boise Cascade Paper Mill. After retirement, the couple remained in International Falls, spending their winters in the southern states. They moved to Sleepy Eye in 1991. Raymond preceded her in death in March of 1996.
Lillian was very active in civil endeavors during her life. She was a past nobel grand of the local Rebecca Lodge, and a member of the Civic League and library board. She taught first aid to many organizations and was a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Falls Nurses' Association, the City Charter Commission, and the High School Planning Commission. Lillian was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid. She loved music and played piano for the silent movies. She and Raymond loved to travel. After they retired, they took a 75-day trip around the world, a three-month camping trip tour of Europe and spent their winters in Texas and Mexico. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing and square dancing.

Florian L. Turbes, 96, of Springfield, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. Mass of Christian burial was Jan. 19 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home of Springfield handled the arrangements.
He is survived by daughters, Kathleen and husband Sam Hauger of Springfield, Marilyn Roiger of Carroll, Iowa, and Mary Jane and husband Clarence Davis of Sanborn; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Matt and wife Eleanor Turbes of Sleepy Eye, Sylvester and wife Myrtle Turbes of Sleepy Eye, Victor and wife Doris Turbes of Maple Plain, and James and wife Cyrilla Turbes of Springfield; a sister, Loretta Wenisch of Springfield; and sisters-in-law, Mary Turbes of Sleepy Eye, and Annabelle Turbes of Redwood Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gertrude in 1990; daughter, LaDonna Driscoll in 1985; and brothers, George, Raymond, Leo and Ed.
Florian was born March 25, 1903, in Stark Township, Brown County, to Hubert and Mary (Grausam) Turbes. He attended country school and married Gertrude Wenisch on Feb. 25, 1930, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. They farmed in Brookville Township, Redwood County, for 40 years, retiring and moving into Springfield in 1970. He became a resident of Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye in 1998.
Florian was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield and a former member of the Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends, farming, listening to old time music, gardening, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Shawn Davis, Nathan Davis, Dan Petersen, Mark Hauger, Kevin Driscoll and Randy Zinniel.

Florian J. Helget, 88, of Springfield, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Services will be Thursday, Jan. 27, 10:30 a.m., at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Chapel in Springfield. There will be a men's rosary before the service at 10 a.m. at the church. Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Helget of Springfield; children, Kenneth and wife Sally Helget of Springfield, Lois and husband Ralph Schley of Kent, Wash., Betty and husband Gerald Kieper of Springfield, Joanne and husband Richard Groebner of Sleepy Eye, Marge and husband Randi Martinson of Fairmont, and Kevin and wife Sue of Franklin; 22 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; a grandson, Paul; brothers, Joseph, Edward, Wenzel, John, Clement, Leonard and Arthur; and sisters, Amelia Kral and Clara Helget.
Florian was born Aug. 4, 1911, in Stark Township, Brown County, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Neidecker) Helget. He married Leona Rothmeier on June 1, 1938, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple lived and farmed in Burnstown Township until 1959. They moved to Springfield and Florian worked at Hiers Feed Mill and Acolite Plant until he retired.
Florian was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, and the St. John's Catholic Aid Society in Sleepy Eye. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, old time music and working in the garage.
Casket bearers are Scott Helget, Curt Kieper, Mark Schley, Korey Kieper, Kevin Helget and Bill Pelzel.

Henry C. Rock, 90, of Belgrade, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at the Belgrade Nursing Home. Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade with Rev. Michael DeKraai officiating. Visitation is one hour before the service. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by his son, George and wife Pat Rock of Belgrade; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Logan of Sawyer, N.D., Lily Ahrandt of Redwood, Bessie Mathews of Stanley, N.D., Esther and husband Walter Kling of Minot, N.D.; brother, Albert Rock of the state of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lila, sisters, Rose Bruhn, Sarah Bruhn, Margaret Olson, and brothers, Harry, William and Clarence Rock.
Henry was born Oct. 17, 1909 in Bechyn, Minnesota, the son of John and Lena (Ahrendt) Rock. At a very young age, Henry moved with his family to Blaisdell, N.D. where he grew up on the family farm and attended school. On Sept. 10, 1933, Henry married Lila M. Schmidt in Jackson, Minn. Following their marriage they lived in Sleepy Eye where Henry owned and operated a trucking business until 1952. From 1953 to 1959 they farmed near Blaisdell, N.D. In 1960 they moved to Belgrade where they farmed. In 1975, Henry retired from farming. Lila died in 1980. Since 1988, Henry has been a resident at the Belgrade Nursing Home.

Nicholas B. Hillesheim, 86, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at St. John's Home in Springfield. Services were Tuesday, Jan. 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by his children, Sharon and husband Lester Malecha of Lonsdale, Ronald "Butch" and wife Nancy Hillesheim of Nashua, Iowa, Gary and wife Rosie Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Dean and wife Margaret Hillesheim of Minnetonka, Susan and husband Tom Schewe of Sleepy Eye; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Verna Rein of Shakopee and Rose Prokosch of Lamberton. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Veronica in 1997; brothers, Hubert, Herman, Henry, Edwin "Sam," Art and Leonard; sisters, Katherine Rubey and Margaret Busch; and brothers-in-law, Jerome Rein and John "Jack" Prokosch.
Nick was born May 20, 1913, in rural Sleepy Eye, the son of Joseph A. and Margaret (Mertz) Hillesheim. He grew up and attended Iberia country school. He married Veronica T. Marz on May 1, 1939, in Faribault. The couple made their home on Nick's family's home farm in Stark Township. They farmed there until retiring and moving to Sleepy Eye in 1975. Nick was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Sleepy Eye Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also served on the Stark Township Board, Iberia School Board and the St. Mary's Cemetery Board. Nick enjoyed farming, especially driving tractor, and traveling. He also enjoyed woodworking and had crafted many items for the churches, as well as many pieces of furniture for family and friends.
The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
