Leo F. Pelzel, 91, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his home. Services were Monday, June 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his sons, Robert and wife Mercedes Pelzel, Jeffrey and wife Susan Pelzel, and Douglas and wife Marlene Pelzel, all of Sleepy Eye; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Erwin Pelzel of Sleepy Eye, Melvin Pelzel of Sleepy Eye, and Ben Pelzel of Ludlow, Vt.; sisters, Leona (Braun) Lowinske of Sleepy Eye, Irene Meyer of Roswell, N.M., Marion (Mrs. Frank) Mueller of Marshall, Mo., and Lorraine (Mrs. Mel) Tauer of Morgan. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma, in 1994; daughter, Mary Ebenhoh; an infant daughter, Barbara; one great-grandson; brothers, Roman, Edward and Arthur; and a sister, Lucille Helget.
Leo was born June 17, 1908, in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, the son of Clement and Augusta (Engel) Pelzel. After he completed his schooling, Leo worked on the family farm. He married Emma Rothmeier on Sept. 21, 1931, in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in Albin Township for three years before moving to Leavenworth Township where they farmed for 50 years. They retired and moved to Sleepy Eye in 1983. Leo moved to Countryside Apartments in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Eagles Club. He received the C.O.F. 75-year pin in 1999. Leo was the Sleepy Eye city weed inspector for many years. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his family.
Casket bearers were Joe Ebenhoh, John Ebenhoh, Alison Pelzel, Bill Pelzel, Larry Pelzel and Mike Pelzel.

Carl "Bud" Eisenbacher, 75, of rural New Ulm died Monday, June 5, 2000, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Carl is survived by his wife, Kathleen Eisenbacher of rural New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Jacob Monono of Mankato, and Susan Achman of New Ulm; a son David Eisenbacher of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren, Michael Achman and his wife Tricia of Winthrop, Timothy Achman of New Ulm, Miriam Monono, Solange Monono, and Betty Monono, all of Mankato; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy By.re of Northfield, Ethel Alfeuby of Minneapolis, Charlotte and Lester Thompson of Long Lake, and Agnes Volk of Apple Valley; also by sisters-in-law, Vera Eisenbacher of New Ulm, and Donna Eisenbacher of Bovey. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Gary Lee; two brothers, Erwin Eisenbacher and Ralph Eisenbacher; and brothers-in-law Francis Byrne, and Lester Alfeuby.
Carl was born March 1, 1925, in Eden Township, Brown County, to Paul and Elsie (Koch) Eisenbacher. He attended country school in Eden Township, Brown County, and later attended Morgan Public School. On July 11, 1950, he married Kathleen Turbes at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. After marriage they farmed in rural Sleepy Eye for 10 years and then moved to rural New Ulm and farmed for the last 40 years. Carl was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the St. Mary's Knights of Columbus Council #3134 in Sleepy Eye, and the Farm Bureau in New Ulm.

Kjalmer (Jim) Finstad, 95, of rural St. James, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in St. James. Services will be Thursday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Pease Funeral Home in St. James, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; sons, Dennis and wife Mary Ann of Jackson, Kenneth and wife Fay of Hayward, Wis., Richard and wife Becky of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Howard and wife Sharon of St. James; daughters, Phyllis Johnson and husband Larry of Alexandria, and Colleen Kibbon and husband Ron of Hampton, Neb; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Oren and wife Mae of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Myrtle Finstad of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
Kjalmer was born Aug. 9, 1904, in Albin Township, Brown County, to John and Ingaborg (Enden) Finstad. He attended District 47 rural school in Brown County and also Mankato Commercial College. He was married to Florence Beckius on April 25, 1936, in Springfield. They farmed in Albin Township for many years. Kjalmer was a member of Albion Lutheran Church and had served as a trustee. He had also served on the rural school board. He enjoyed having his grandchildren visit, traveling, driving and reading. He became a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home in 1999.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Keith Finstad, Todd Johnson, Jeff Finstad, John FInstad, Charles Vakula and Matt Kibbon. The honorary pallbearers will be the remaining grandchildren.

Stanley "Stan" Bushard, 81, of New Ulm, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Mass of Christian burial was Wednesday, June 14, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella Bushard of New Ulm; daughters, Lois Schreyer of New Ulm, Connie Kloeckl of rural Hanska, and Judy Fullerton and her husband Rick of Chaska; sons, Greg Bushard and his wife Agnes of New Ulm, Gordy Bushard and his wife Connie of rural New Ulm; Ron Bushard and his wife Linda of New Ulm; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Berg of New Ulm, Gertrude Klaras of Webster, and Jeanette Domeier and her husband LeRoy of New Ulm; brothers, Walter Bushard and his wife Violet of New Ulm, and Edward Bushard and his wife Lorraine of New Ulm; and a brother- in-law, LeRoy Kaufman of Glencoe. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Randy Kloeckl; a sister and brother-in-law, Forella and Clifford Smasal; a sister, Arlene Kaufman; and by brothers-in-law, Alex Berg and Dick Klaras.
Stan was born Feb. 7, 1919, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to Joseph and Angelica (Seifert) Bushard. He attended school in St. George. On June 21, 1944, he married Marcella Hauser at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they farmed for four years in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, before moving to a farm in Courtland Township, Nicollet County. There they farmed for 24 years before retiring and moved into New Ulm. After farming, Stan worked for the Courtland Elevator for a short time before going to work for Forester Welding in New Ulm. There he worked until 1981 when he retired. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council. He had been a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center since the middle of March of this year.

Eugene A. Goblirsch, 69, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan. Services were June 13 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
Gene was born March 25, 1931, in Albin Township, Brown County, to Frank and Clara (Sellner) Goblirsch. He attended country school in Albin Township, and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye in 1948. Following graduation, Gene farmed the family farm where he enjoyed raising hogs and especially holstein cattle. Gene was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Aid Association. He enjoyed faming and reading. He had struggled with his health for the past nine years.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes of Sleepy Eye; son,Patrick of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Kathy Goblirsch of Medicine Lake, Sandy Goblirsch of Shakopee; brothers, Father Robert Goblirsch of Ortonville, Dennis and wife Lynn of Midwest City, Okla.; sisters, Sister Bertille Goblirsch of Duluth, Alice and husband Harry Dorn of Middleton, Wis.; sister-in-law, Adelle Goblirsch of Sleepy Eye; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edwin; and a brother in infancy.
Casket bearers were Stanley Bauer, James Goblirsch, Leo Ludewig, Clarence Goblirsch, Gary Goblirsch and Glen Goblirsch.

Helen Mae Arndt was born in Grantsburg, Wis., on Nov. 3, 1918. the daughter of Henry and Hattie Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and sister-in-law.
She is survived by her niece Marsha (Lee) Mabrito and her nephews, Douglas (Ann) Andersen, Paul (Christa) Andersen and Kirk Andersen. Also special family, Myrna (Marshall) Gardin, Meredith Gardin, Maryl (Tim) Jordahl, and brother-in-law, Harry Andersen.
Although she had no children of her own she was very close to her nieces and nephews and her 10 very special great-nieces and nephews. She loved them dearly.
On Jan. 11, 1944, she was married to Gordon K. Arndt of Sleepy Eye where the couple resided. A year following his untimely death at the age 36, she returned to Minneapolis where she worked as a secretary until she retired in 1982.
She joined Wesley United Methodist Church in 1968 and has been active through the years. She was a member of Minnehaha Eastern Star and Retired Professional Secretaries.
Her cremains will be interred privately with her husband's at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Johnny Reiniger, 22 months, of Mankato, died at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital on Thursday, June 22, 2000. Funeral services were on Saturday, June 24, with burial will in the Decoria Cemetery. Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home in Mankato handled the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the Johnathan Reiniger Memorial Fund at the Peoples State Bank of Eagle Lake.
Johnny was born on Aug. 3, 1998, in Mankato to William J. Reiniger and Heather Landgren.
He is survived by his parents of Mankato; sisters, Amanda Landgren and Rebecca Howard, both of Mankato; grandparents, Gary and Vicky Landgren of North Mankato, Theresa Reiniger of Sleepy Eye, Cleo Zeigler of the Twin Cities; uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, seven great-grandparents, one uncle and two aunts.

Mavis A. Fenske, age 58 of Lafayette, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services were Tuesday, June 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery. Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop handled the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Dean Fenske of Lafayette; sons, Darwin Fenske and his wife, Lori of rural Winthrop and Dave Fenske and his wife Deb of Hutchinson; daughter, Susan Fenske of Nicollet; grandchildren, Tylor and Cegi Fenske and Cindy, Brenda and Daniel Fenske; mother, Arlene Harder of the Sleepy Eye Care Center; brother, Marvel "Butch" Harder and his wife Brenda of Sleepy Eye; sister, Shirley Wendinger and her husband Gary of New Ulm; mother-in-law, Lillian Schrieber and her husband William of Winthrop; and also nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mavis was preceded in death by her father, Ernie Harder, in November of 1988; her brother ;and her father-in-Law, Herbert Fenske, in September of 1972.
Mavis Arlene Fenske was born Sept. 22, 1941, in Sleepy Eye. She was the daughter of Ernie and Arlene (Speckman) Harder. Mavis was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed on April 3, 1955. She grew up in the Sleepy Eye area where she attended school. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School on June 1, 1960. Mavis worked at the Pietrus poultry plant in Sleepy Eye for a number of years. She was united in marriage with Dean Fenske on April 7, 1962. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons and a daughter. After their marriage, Mavis and Dean lived south of Gaylord for five years. They moved south of Arlington for two years and they returned to Sleepy Eye for three years. While living in Sleepy Eye, Mavis held employment at Haas Press. In the fall of 1972, the couple moved to Lafayette. They farmed in Cornish Township, Sibley County. Mavis played a very active role in helping her husband with work on their farm. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She loved spending time with her family, especially her five grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and she loved all of her animals.

Curtis Clyde Crumlett, 74, of Eden Prairie, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Services will be at Pilgrim Lutheran Church at 3901 1st Ave. S., Minneapolis, on Sunday, June 16, at 1 p.m., with a reviewal one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; and two children, Brett and Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gloria; and a brother, Clinton.
Curtis was born April 12, 1926, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Frank Walter and Adeline Marie (Schroeder) Crumlett. He attended St. John's Evangelical Parochial School and attended Sleepy Eye Public School in 1944. He enlisted in the armed forces in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific from 1944-46. After World War II ended, Curtis began college, graduating from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. Afterwards, he attended the Minneapolis College of Law and received a bachelor of science law degree in 1953. In 1955, he graduated with a bachelor of law degree. Curtis was admitted to practice law in Minnesota and federal courts and became a member of the Minnesota and Hennepin County Bar Association. In 1969, the William Mitchell College of Law honored him with a juris doctor degree. During his work career, he worked in the corporate and private practice of law. On Dec. 26, 1951, Curtis married Jean Winifred Sawyer in Revere, Minn. During their married life, they lived in Minneapolis, Richfield and Eden Prairie.

Brandon M. Dummer, 11, of East Bethel, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at his home in East Bethel. Mass of Christian burial was Monday, July 10, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, with burial at a later date in the church cemetery. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Lisa and Rodney Sanow of East Bethel; father, Donn Steffl of Sleepy Eye; three sisters, Marissa, Krista and Sydney, all of East Bethel; maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Dummer of Fairfax; paternal grandparents, Leo and Grace Steffl of Sleepy Eye; step-grandparents, Frank and Cel Sanow of Marshall; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harley Dummer.
Brandon was born July 19, 1988, in Redwood Falls, the son of Lisa (Dummer) Sanow and Donn Steffl. He was baptized at the Redwood Falls Hospital. Brandon received his special education schooling at Cedar Creek Elementary, where he recently completed the sixth grade. He attended St. Pat's Catholic Church in Oak Grove. He loved spending time with his family, especially his sisters. He also enjoyed going to the lake, boating, watching videos and watching his "special light" that his mom would shine on the ceiling for him.

Orville G. "Bud" Fischer, 79, of rural Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, July 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Eden Methodist Cemetery in Eden Township. Nelson Funeral Home in Morgan handled the arrangements.
Orville G. "Bud" Fischer was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Henry and Minnie (Metag) Fischer. He lived his entire life in Eden Township, Brown County. He received his education at District 189, Eden Township school. He later farmed with his father. On Oct. 7, 1946, Orville was united in marriage to OraDell M. Krebs at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield. They lived and farmed in Eden Township, retiring in 1976, but continued to live on the farm. Bud was known as a quiet individual, but had a keen mind that was always working. For relaxing, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, OraDell of Sleepy Eye; two sons, Pastor Grant O. Fischer and wife Karen of Atwater, Robert H. Fischer and wife Marie of Morgan; and five grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, Amy, Diana, and Adam and a foster grandchild, Laura Angell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Eve Fischer.

Lorraine Frederickson, 69, of St. James, died Saturday evening, July 8, 2000, at the Madelia Community Hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday, July 12, at the La Salle Lutheran Church, with burial in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hanska. Firle Funeral Home in Hanska handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Marlowe of St. James; daughters, Beverly Olson and husband Darryl of Madelia, Sandra Braun and husband Marvin of Sleepy Eye, Darla Colebank and husband William of Hanska, Wanda Grunewald and special friend Don Schroeder of New Ulm,Tammy Boddy and husband Daniel of New Ulm, and Lori Sukalski and husband Chuck of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Joyce Luepke and husband Harold of Courtland; sisters, Marlene Distad of Franklin, Colleen Distad and husband Juleen of Fairfax; sisters-in-law, Inga Beltz of Fairfax, Dorothy Christensen of Sleepy Eye, Patsy Beltz of Brooklyn Park; nieces, nephews, and very dear friend, Inez Hoffrogge of Madelia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughters, Denise and Diane; grandson Christopher Sukalski; brothers Curtis, Harold, and Teach Beltz; and brother-in-law, Harold Johnson.
Lorraine, the daughter of Henry and Flora (Franke) Beltz, was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Home Township, Brown County, where she attended rural school. She worked for a time at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye and was united in marriage to Marlowe Frederickson Jan. 10, 1949, in Sleepy Eye. They made their home near La Salle. She worked for Tony Downs in Madelia until illness forced her retirement. The couple moved to St. James in 1990. She was a member of the La Salle Lutheran Church.

Martha Fritz, 89, of Hopkins, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, in Robbinsdale. Services were Wednesday, July 12, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Rogers, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by sons, Jerome of Pensacola, Fla., Robert of Maple Grove, and Richard of Golden Valley; daughters, Joann Schwartz of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Mary LeComte of Champlin; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad; sons, Paul, Donald and Joseph; and a sister, Veronica Bitney.
Martha Ebenhoh was born May 21, 1911, in Sleepy Eye. She married Conrad Fritz in Sleepy Eye in 1933. They started their family in Sleepy Eye, then moved to Brooklyn Park in 1944, then to Maple Grove in 1958. Martha's residence since 1996 was St. Therese Senior Apartments in Hopkins. She was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Rogers for 40 years. A perfect mom and a prefect grandmother, sweet, loving, caring and forgiving, Martha was well-loved by everyone and will be missed by her family and friends.

Michael L. Goblirsch, 87, of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Services were Saturday, July 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
Michael was born on Sept. 15, 1912, in Albin Township, Brown County, the son of Joseph and Mary (Mathiowetz) Goblirsch. He grew up and attended country school. Michael married Veronica F. Forster on Feb. 18, 1935, in Comfrey. The couple made their home in Albin Township where they farmed for many years. In 1971 they moved to Sleepy Eye. Michael was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings, farming and visiting with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Carol and Robert Cibuzar of Duluth, James and Jane of Sleepy Eye, Jerome and Lucy of Eagle Lake, Joan Meyer of Big Springs, Texas, Michael and Dianna of Coon Rapids, Gary and Judy of Bloomington, Charlene Forster of Sleepy Eye and fiance Mark Berdan of New Ulm, Lindy and Dick Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye, Roger and Cathy of New Ulm, Steven and Annette of Rochester, Susan and Ray Kral of Sleepy Eye, and Mary Jo and Robert Hille of Sleepy Eye; 37 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Turbes of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Marie and Everett Soukup of Sleepy Eye, Agnes Forster of New Ulm, Adeline and Bill Harpel of Glencoe, Delrose Chadderdon of Faribault and Jeanette Forster of Se1ah, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Veronica; sons, Joseph and Paul; brothers, Peter, Frank, Albert, George, Otto; sister, Katherine Hillesheim, son-in-law, Gib Forster; one grandson, Mikel; and one great-grandson, Peyton.
Casket bearers were Dan Forster, Jim Goblirsch, Jr., Greg Cibuzar, Scott Schroepfer, Tim Goblirsch, Brandon Goblirsch and Tom Goblirsch.

Kathryn A. Jensen, age 55, of Morgan died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. Funeral service was Saturday, July 8, at United Methodist Church in Morgan, with interment in the Morgan City Cemetery. Nelson Funeral Home in Morgan handled the arrangements.
Kathryn was born June 7, 1945, the daughter of Richard and Jane (Woodford) Jacobsen. She resided with her family in Morgan. She was baptized on Sept. 2, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Redwood Falls and later confirmed her faith at United Methodist Church in Morgan. She graduated from Morgan High School as salutatorian in her class of 1963. During high school she played saxophone and trombone and enjoyed music. She then attended Bemidji State where she graduated in 1967, cum laude with a degree in education. She played on the girls' basketball team in college. She taught at Hibbing for two years and on March 29, 1969, was united in marriage to Harold Jensen at the United Methodist Church in Morgan. They lived in Prior Lake and she taught in Shakopee for nearly a year, Kathryn later did substitute teaching and was a swimming coach. Her marriage to Harold Jensen ended in a divorce in 1986. She was very active in sporting activities and played on local softball teams. She loved fishing, camping and gardening. Kathryn was very interested in her children's activities and helped coach those activities and was very much a people person. From 1986 until 1990 she lived in the Twin Cities Metro area and lived on the farm with her mother in Morgan from 1990 until 1994. She most recently lived in the city of Morgan.
Kathryn is survived by two children, Nicole E. Andersen and husband John of Bloomington, and a son, Marcus A. Jensen of Prior Lake; a grandson Maxwell Andersen; and her mother, Jane Rasmussen and husband Paul of Sleepy Eye. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Judy Tompkins and husband Lloyd of Park Rapids, Alan Jacobsen of Morgan and special friend Sharon Anderson-Marso, David Jacobsen and wife Kathleen of Northfield, and Curtis Jacobsen and wife Lisa of Prescott, Wis.; numerous nieces and nephews; stepbrothers and sisters, Paul Rasmussen Jr. and wife Linda of Benld, Ill., Rita Gorman and husband Bill of Arcadia, Calif., Fred Rasmussen and wife Jane of Evan, Mark Rasmussen of Sleepy Eye, and Sandra, Johnson and husband Todd of Spokane, Wash. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Jacobsen in 1992, and a sister, Janice Marie in infancy.
