Donald E. Traphagan

CENTER - Donald E. Traphagan, 69, of Center, died at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at his home.

There will be no services. His body was cremated.

The Wilke Funeral Home in Center is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Traphagan was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Hannibal to Clifford L. and Dorothy Morgan Traphagan.

He was married to Thelma Drew. She survives.

Other survivors include one brother, Clifford Traphagan of New London; and two stepbrothers, Morgan Caldwell and Dwayne Caldwell, both of San Francisco, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Traphagan had worked for an electrical manufacturer in San Francisco for a few years.

Mildred Mayes

Shelbina
July 16, 1916 - June 4, 2004

SHELBINA - Mildred Mayes, 87, of Shelbina, died at 4:17 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 7, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Jim Bilbro will officiate. Burial will be at the Shelbina Cemetery in Shelbina.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mayes was born July 16, 1916, in Hunnewell to Elmer Claude and Julia Alice Megaffin Mayes.

Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth Mayes and Keith Mayes, both of Shelbina; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, A.C. Mayes and an infant, Harold Lee Mayes; and one infant sister, Phyllis Ruth Mayes.

Mrs. Mayes was a member of Hunnewell Methodist Church. She enjoyed flowers, music and working with people.

Memorials may be made to the Hunnewell I.O.O.F. Cemetery or Union Chapel Cemetery.

Carlene Gladys (Corky) Sawyer
Hannibal
July 25, 1933 - June 2, 2004

HANNIBAL - Carlene Gladys (Corky) Sawyer, 70, of Hannibal, died at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 7, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal. The Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sawyer was born July 25, 1933, in Quincy, Ill., to Carl and Gladys Tate Woltering.

She was married to Robert J. (Bob) Sawyer on July 28, 1951, in Quincy, Ill. He preceded her in death March 11, 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Sawyer of Hannibal and David Sawyer and wife, Terri, of New London; two grandchildren, Noah Sawyer and Timothy Sawyer; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marilyn Wagner, Dorothy Woltering and Sister M. Charles Lucille Woltering; her parents; and her husband's parents, L.J. (Tim) and Doris V. Enslen Sawyer.

She formerly worked at Sawyers Grocery Store and was a member of the First Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the First Christian Church Living Memorial Fund.

Dorbie W. White
Hannibal
June 27, 1923 - June 2, 2004

HANNIBAL - Dorbie W. White, 80, of Hannibal, died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at his home.

Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, June 4, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Mr. White was born June 27, 1923, in Sweet Springs to Arthur and Lillie Vedenhaupt White.

He was married to Eva Garrett on Aug. 15, 1942, in Oakwood. She preceded him in death Nov. 6, 2003.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Walker and husband, James, of Hannibal; one son, Mike White and wife, Nancy, of Warrensburg; one sister, Agnes Reddick of Hannibal; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara McNett; and eight brothers and sisters.

Mr. White was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked for the city of Hannibal Street Department.

Dorothy E. Baskett
Palmyra
May 11, 1921 - Aug. 16, 2004

PALMYRA - Dorothy E. Baskett, 83, of Palmyra, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. The Rev. Roger Lane will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Elmwood Cemetery in Linneus.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 18, at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Baskett was born May 11, 1921, in Linn County to Arthur and Katie McIntyre Griffith.

She was married to Eugene Baskett on Dec. 23, 1939. He preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1989.

Survivors include sons, Phillip Baskett and wife, Sue, of Kokomo, Ind., and David Baskett and wife, Debra, of Boulder, Colo.; and grandchildren, Angie Wesley, Kristin Winters, Sara Bryson and Dominique Baskett.

Dorothy was a secretary at Missouri Rural Electric Coop for several years. She was a graduate of Palmyra High School and was valedictorian of her class. She was very involved with the Palmyra Nutrition Center, serving on the board of directors, and also delivering Meals on Wheels. She was a former board member of the Palmyra Bicentennial Library and volunteered many hours in the library. She also volunteered at the Radiation Unit at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Hannibal Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to the Palmyra Nutrition Center or Palmyra Bicentennial Library.

Pallbearers will be Ron Finney, Carlos Finney, Jerry Finney, Blaine Thomas, Kenneth McIntyre and Cleo Munsterman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zack Wesley, Adam Bryson, Jeremy Winters and Donald McIntrye.

Daisy Fern Watson
Center
March 16, 1909 - Aug. 17, 2004

CENTER - Daisy Fern Watson, 95, of Center, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004.

Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Aug. 19, at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Center. The Rev. Hal Rogers will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.

Miss Watson was born March 16, 1909 in Frankford to William and Ethel Allen Watson.

Survivors include one niece, Patricia Evans of Clive, Iowa; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Watson; and four sisters, Florence Bailey, Lillian Spurling, Roberta Watson and Olive Stocks.

Miss Watson was a lifetime area resident and Methodist by faith. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Hannibal VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She loved being outdoors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fern Watson family, in care of Patricia Evans, 1550 NW 91st St., Clive, Iowa 50325.

James Edward Rueweler
Paynesville
July 3, 1945 - Aug. 15, 2004

ELSBERRY - James Edward (Slim Jim) Rueweler, 59, of Paynesville and formerly of Elsberry, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 18, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.

Mr. Rueweler was born July 3, 1945, in St. Louis to Frank and Francis Hobson Rueweler.

Survivors include his companion of 17 years, Sharon Williams of Paynesville; one son, Scott Rueweler of Troy; one daughter, Jennifer Ingrassia of Troy; his mother, Francis Solovic of Troy; two brothers, Jerry Rueweler and John Rueweler; one sister, Betty Cox and husband, Russell, of Troy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Rueweler served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam from June 1, 1965, to May 27, 1969.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
