Larry L. Dyer

TROY ­ Larry L. Dyer, 53, of Foley, died Jan. 10, 2000, at his home in Foley.

Funeral services for Mr. Dyer will be at noon Thursday at McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy. The Rev. Wes Denham will officiate. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Jefferson Barracks.

Mr. Dyer was born Oct. 29, 1946, in St. Charles to Dallas and Katherine Claggett Dyer.

Survivors include his mother of Troy; and two sisters, Joyce Ann Abbott of Tucson, Ariz., and Charlotte Morhaus of Warrenton.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1975.

Mr. Dyer had been a construction worker for L.E. Meyer Construction Co. in St. Louis.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the local American Legion Post.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and also from 11 a.m. until time of the services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Vietnam War Memorial Fund, in care of McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home.

Donald Eugene Tapley

ELSBERRY ­ Donald Eugene Tapley, 70, of Elsberry, died Jan. 11, 2000, at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Tapley will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. The Rev. Raymond Doussard will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Douglas McGlaughlin. Burial will be at Star Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Tapley was born Nov. 29, 1929, in New London to Arthur D. and Eva Decker Tapley.

He was married to Betty Howerton on Dec. 4, 1947, in Hannibal. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Dean Tapley and Dane Tapley, both of Elsberry; two daughters, Diane Hudnall and Donna Owens, both of Elsberry; two sisters, Marge Maupin of Columbia and Dorothy Johnson of Hannibal; one brother, Marshall Tapley of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Tapley and Thomas Tapley; and one granddaughter, Amy Hudnall-Silotto.

Mr. Tapley worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone installer for 39 years until his retirement in 1987. In 1985, he was recipient of the Missouri Rider Service Award. He was recognized for designing and maintaining an alarm system for the Elsberry Volunteer Fire Department. On July 4, 1987, Mayor William Waggoner presented him with an award for outstanding service to the Elsberry Fire Department and to the Elsberry community.

Mr. Tapley was a volunteer fireman, and belonged to the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs. He was a member of the Star Hope Baptist Church.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Great Rivers Home Care or the Star Hope Baptist Church, in care of the Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth St., Elsberry, Mo. 63343.

Harry LeMoine Greene

TUCSON, Ariz. ­ Harry LeMoine Greene M.D., 91, of Tucson, Ariz., died Jan. 6, 2000, in Tucson.

A private ceremony to honor Dr. Greene was held at the Saguaro National Monument in Tucson.

Dr. Greene was born Aug. 7, 1908, in Jamaica Plains, Mass., to Mellen and Lucy Seabury Greene.

He was married to Helen Louise Banks of Mount Carmel, Ill., on Dec. 25, 1935. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Carol Greene Helming of Tucson; two sons, Harry L. Greene II M.D., of Holden, Mass., and Jerry M. Greene M.D. of Newtonville, Mass.; and seven grandchildren, Bruce Helming of Guadalajara, Mexico, Brian Helming of Tucson, Heather Helming of Berkeley, Calif., Harry L. Greene III of Prescott, Ariz., Michele Greene of Boston, Mass., Jennifer Greene of Holden, Mass., and Daniel Greene of Newtonville, Mass.

Dr. Greene was a 1926 graduate of Hannibal High School. He received both his associate's and bachelor of science degrees from the University of Missouri in Columbia, graduating in 1930. He was a 1933 graduate of Washington University School of Medicine. After completing his internship and residency, he returned to Hannibal to practice medicine in 1937. His practice was interrupted while he served as lieutenant Commander, Medical Corps in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Guadalcanal and Bougainville.

Dr. Greene practiced medicine in Hannibal for 50 years before retiring and moving to Oro Valley, Ariz., in 1991. He and his wife had just celebrated their wedding anniversary on Dec. 25, 1999.

Feliesha Ann Ward

LIBERTY, Ill. ­ Feliesha Ann Ward, 17, of rural Liberty, Ill. died at 9 a.m. Jan. 10, 2000, as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Funeral services for Feliesha will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Liberty. The Rev. Charles Edwards will officiate. Burial will be at Xander Cemetery.

Feliesha was born July 14, 1982, in Omaha, Neb., to Rodney and Tamela Hayden Ward.

Survivors include her father, Rodney Ward of Superior, Neb., her mother and stepfather, Tamela and Chad Cole of Hannibal; grandparents, Jim and Barbara Hayden of Liberty, Darrell and Marjorie Ward of Nelson, Neb., Edith Ward of Nelson, and two brothers, Brendan and Joe Brand of Hannibal.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents.

Feliesha was a senior at Liberty High School and worked part-time at ShopKo. She was an active participant in her school and was a member of the Media Club, Eagle's Eye Art Club, Journalism Club, Scholastic Bowl, Marching Band Flag Squad, Speech Team, S.A.D.D., Teen Reach, Quiz Bowl, Tri-M Music Club, High School Choir, Science Club and the Soaring Eagle Newspaper. She was an office holder in many of the above organizations.

Feliesha received honors in the IHSA Vocal Contest, Who's Who Among American High School Students, the Society of Academic Achievement and the High Honor Roll. She enjoyed soccer, music and poetry.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy, Ill.

Memorials may be made to Liberty High School Music Department.

Mary Lou Green

HANNIBAL ­ Mary Lou Newkirk Green, 72, of Hannibal and formerly of Malden, died at 11:35 a.m. Jan. 12, 2000, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Green will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Fifth Street Baptist Church in Hannibal. The Rev. Gary Douglas will officiate.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Dexter Cemetery in Dexter.

Mrs. Green was born May 12, 1927, in Poplar Bluff to Arthur and Mattie McClain Newkirk.

She was married to Hutson S. Green Jr. on Aug. 15, 1948, in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1988.

Survivors include two children, Hutson S. Green III of St. Louis and Nancy Green Cuff of Tega Cay, S.C.; three grandchildren, Andrew Cuff, Alex Cuff and Adrienne Cuff, all of Tega Cay.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert Newkirk and C.A. Newkirk.

Mrs. Green was a retired school teacher. She taught in public schools in Chaffe and Clarkton, and retired from Mark Twain Elementary School in Hannibal. She was a member of Fifth Street Baptist Church where she was church organist for 20 years. She was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, received an associate's degree from Southwest Baptist University, attended Southeast Missouri State University and obtained a bachelor of science degree from Quincy University.

Mrs. Green was a member of Evening Etude, Federated Music Club and Hannibal Woman's Club. She and her husband, director of development at Hannibal-LaGrange College, had made their home in Malden for several years before moving to Hannibal in 1973.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Pallbearers will be Jamey Creech, David Dexheimer, W.C. Timbrook, James Baxter, Gerald Burkett and Russell Cull.

Honorary pallbearers will be William Tillitt, Dr. Michael Bukstein, Wayne Lewis and Willard Middleton.

Mabel Kennedy

CANTON ­ Mabel Kennedy, 93, formerly of Canton, died at 12:30 a.m. Jan. 12, 2000, at the Lancaster Manor Nursing Home in Lincoln, Neb.

Funeral services are pending at Davis Funeral Home in Canton.

Frank A. Vollmer

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Frank A. Vollmer, son of Lyn and Frank A. Vollmer Sr. of New Canton, Ill., is currently halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the fast-attack submarine USS Scranton, home-ported in Norfolk, Va.

The 1988 graduate of Barry High School of Barry, Ill., joined the Navy in July 1988.

Timothy E. Shreve

Air Force Airman Timothy E. Shreve has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs and received special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Shreve is the son of William L. Shreve of Omro, Wis., and Judy Reagan of Hannibal.

He is a 1999 graduate of Omro High School.

Ruth Lorraine Farrell Steinhoff

MONROE CITY ­ Ruth Lorraine Farrell Steinhoff, 86, of Monroe City and formerly of Jacksonville, Ill. died Jan. 13, 2000, at Monroe City Manor Care Center.

Funeral services for Mrs. Steinhoff will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Garner Funeral Chapel in Monroe City. The Rev. Steve Goughnour will officiate. Burial will be at the St. Jude Cemetery in Monroe City.

Mrs. Steinhoff was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Monroe City, to Joseph Watson and Nettie Durst Tuley.

She was married to Frank Farrell who preceded her in death. She was married to John Steinhoff in July 1969, in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death in March 1997.

Survivors include one son, Tom Farrell of Jacksonville; two daughters, Linda Fernandes of Jacksonville and Barbara Rawlings of Pagasa Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Diane Sutphen, Richard Rawlings and Mindy J. McMann; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Marlton Tuley.

Mrs. Steinhoff was a graduate of Monroe City High School and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Monroe City, later moving her membership to the Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. She had made her home in Jacksonville for some 40 years before moving back to Monroe City in 1995.

While living in Jacksonville, she was a secretary for MacMurry College and had been the bookkeeper for the Jacksonville Health Department. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and had played the piano for the Rainbow Girls DeMolay for some 50 years.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Monroe City, the Visiting Nurses or the South Jacksonville Rescue Squad of Jacksonville.

Oral A. Cole

HANNIBAL ­ Oral A. Cole, 85, of Barry, Ill., died at 6:37 a.m. Jan 12, 2000, at the Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill.

Funeral services for Mr. Cole will be at 11 a.m. today at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Pastor Brent Sanders will officiate. Burial will be at Quincy Memorial Park in Quincy, Ill.

Mr. Cole was born April 25, 1914, in Brown County, Ill., to George W. and Martha E. Akright Cole.

He was married to Ruby L. Dunker on Oct. 21, 1944, in St. Louis. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Bruce Cole of New Canton, Ill., and Bradley Cole of Bellflower, Ill.; one daughter, Jane Kelley of Jonesburg; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Eddingfield and Freda Kirlis; and one brother, Jessie Orson Cole.

Mr. Cole was a retired farmer and a Baptist by faith.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hull Community Church or the Barry Garden Club.

Pallbearers will be Chad Cole, Brian Cole, Jeremy Cole, Nathan Kelley, Tom Dunker and Wayne Cole.

David Wood

SHELBINA ­ David Wood, 61, of Shelbina, died Jan. 12, 2000, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. James Wood will officiate. Burial will be at the Shelbina Cemetery.

Mr. Wood was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Shelby County to Emmett Milton and Louise Murray Wood.

Survivors include three children, Zinna Legg and Lisa Timbrook, both of Columbia and Ronda Cooke of Shelbina; five grandchildren; four sisters, Margret Gilbert and Mary Ellen Dodd, both of Shelbina, Nina Smith of Monroe City and Geneva McCubbin of Auxvasse; and one brother, Murray Wood of Pilot Grove.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Mr. Wood was a graduate of Shelbina High School and was a member of the Loman Chapel Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Missouri Cancer Association, Suite 200, 105 Keene St., Columbia, Mo. 65201, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Bessie M. Elliott

HANNIBAL ­ Bessie M. Elliott, 89, of Hannibal, died at 8:05 p.m. Jan. 12, 2000, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.

A memorial service for Mrs. Elliott will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.

Mrs. Elliott was born Sept. 1, 1910, in the state of Kentucky to Mr. and Mrs. General Ketchum.

She was married to Charles L. Elliott on Sept. 4, 1926. He survives.

Other survivors include three grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, James R. Elliott; three grandsons, one great-great-grandson; and two brothers.

Mrs. Elliott was retired from the St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Hannibal. She was a Catholic by faith.
