Lawrence Kroencke
Oct. 12, 1917 - Jan. 3, 2002

HANNIBAL - Lawrence M. Kroencke, 84, of Hull, Ill., died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Hull Community Church in Hull. The Rev. Dean Collings will officiate. Burial will be at Quincy Memorial Park in Quincy, Ill.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Mr. Kroencke was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Durham, the fourth of seven sons of Herman John and Emma Augustus Mueller Kroencke. The family included two adopted sisters.

He was married to Opal Dunker in 1937. She preceded him in death in 1987.

Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Lee Ward of Hull and Shirley Jean Distlehorst of Springfield, Ill.; two sons, Lawrence John (Larry) Kroencke and Charles Michael Kroencke, both of Hull; three brothers, Ed Kroencke of Maywood, Carl Kroencke of Hull and Cecil Kroencke of Hannibal; one sister, Bonnie Tittsworth of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his close companion and friend, Rose Flick.

The family wishes to include as survivors his daughters-in-law, Janet Kroencke and Jane Kroencke; his grandchildren and their spouses, Mark Ward and Susan of Florissant, Michelle Ward Roberts and Todd of Lombard, Ill., Heidi Distlehorst Hampton and Todd of Chicago, Hans Distlehorst and Nicole of Riverton, Ill., Laura Kroencke Schwartz and Todd of Minneapolis, Larissa Kroencke Borrowman and Rich of New Canton, Ill., Jon Kroencke and Felicia of Bowling Green, Leah Kroencke of El Dara, Ill., Tammy Kroencke Depke and Dan of Hull, and Gregory Kroencke and Kristy of Houston, Texas; 17 great-grandchildren, Katy Ward, Jack Ward, Luke Ward, Reagin Ward, Schuyler Roberts, Benjamin Hampton, Sarah Hampton, Nicholas Distlehorst, Jacob Distlehorst, Natalie Distlehorst, Greta Schwartz, Ella Borrowman, Lexa Borrowman, Hannah Kroencke, Noah Depke, Joseph Depke and Zachary Kroencke; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Kroencke, John Kroencke and Earl Kroencke; and one sister, Betty Maddox.

Mr. Kroencke was a farmer, who had been honored by his community as Outstanding Farmer in 1978, Outstanding Citizen in 1999 and Conservation Farmer of the Year of Pike County in 2000.

Mr. Kroencke attended Smith School. He was active throughout his life, supporting his community in many activities. He served as chairman of the West Pike School Board in the late 1950s and early 1960s, as president and chairman of many committees of the Hull Lions Club, as chairman of the Hull American Legion, as chairman of the board of First Methodist Church and as chairman of the Federal Land Bank Board.

He was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge and the oldest member of the Goodfellows Club of Hannibal.

Memorials may be made to Hull Lions Club, Hull Community Church or Hull History Lives Inc.

Pallbearers will be Mark Ward, Hans Distlehorst, Jon Kroencke, Gregory Kroencke, Todd Hampton, Todd Schwartz, Todd Roberts, Rich Borrowman and Dan Depke.

Honorary pallbearers will be Heidi Hampton, Laura Schwartz, Michelle Roberts, Larissa Borrowman, Leah Kroencke, Tammy Depke, Susan Ward, Nicole Distlehorst, Kristy Kroencke and Felicia Kroencke.

Helena M. Reeder

BOWLING GREEN - Helena M. Reeder, 87, of Louisiana and formerly of Bowling Green, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Smith-Barr Manor in Louisiana.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Burial will be at Bowling Green Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made at Pike County Home Health and Hospice.

Roseanna Alexander
Jan. 1, 1937 - Dec. 18, 2001

LOUISIANA - Roseanna Alexander, 64, of Detroit and formerly of Louisiana, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at her home.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Alexander was born Jan. 1, 1937, in Louisiana to Jesse James Kerr and Luvenia Jackson.

She was married to Leon Alexander in Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include five sons, Leon Alexander of White City, Ore., Andrew Alexander, Michael Alexander and John Alexander, all of Trenton, N.J., and LaBaron Alexander of Osaka, Japan; four daughters, Patricia Johnson of Detroit, Theresa (Terri) Thompson of Vandalia, Faye Washington of Peoria, Ill., and Marilyn Alexander of Springfield, Ill.; one sister, Mary Burns of Springfield, Ill.; one brother, George Edward Davis of Detroit; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to include as survivors one aunt, Ida Wiser of East St. Louis, Ill.; and one uncle, Jimmie Wallace of East St. Louis, Ill.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara; and one brother, Joshua Alexander.

Anna M. Wilson

HANNIBAL - Anna M. Wilson, 94, of Hannibal, died at 1:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Smith Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Barkley Cemetery in New London.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Katherine Lowe

HANNIBAL - Katherine I. (Granny) Lowe, 91, of Hannibal, died at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at her home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

William Callaway
July 2, 1918 - Jan. 5, 2002

ELSBERRY - William (Tillman) Callaway, 83, of Robertsville and formerly of Elsberry, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at his home

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Elder Chuck Kittleson will officiate. Burial will be at Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Callaway was born July 2, 1918, near Old Monroe to William James and Sarah Madeline Sitton Callaway.

He was married to Evelyn Belle Mundell on Jan. 13, 1946, in Elsberry. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, David Callaway of Villa Ridge and Lloyd Callaway of Woodstock, Ga.; one daughter, Cheryl Haley of Robertsville; three grandchildren, Jason, Erin and Seth Callaway, all of Woodstock; two brothers, Oliver (Monk) Callaway and Richard Callaway, both of St. Charles; and one sister, Marjorie Sparks of St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Callaway; and one sister, Aletha Burkhart.

Mr. Callaway served on the USS St. Louis in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was employed for 22 years at Champ Dairy Farms near Elsberry, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sullivan.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Zelma B. McLelland

HANNIBAL - Zelma B. McLelland, 86, of Hannibal, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at her home.

Funeral services are pending at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal.

Evan D. Whaley
Aug. 25, 2001 - Jan. 3, 2002

ELSBERRY - Evan Dempsey Whaley, four months, of O'Fallon, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Pastor Steve Himmel officiated. Burial was at the Elsberry City Cemetery.

Evan was born Aug. 25, 2001, in St. Peters to Tricia Danielle Wommack and Brian Paul Whaley.

Survivors include his parents of O'Fallon; three brothers, Jacob, Cameron and Alec; maternal grandparents, Pat and Cynthia Wommack of St. Peters; paternal grandparents, Charlotte and Joe Ahart of St. Peters and Marvin and Linda Whaley of St. John.

The family wishes to include as survivors, two aunts, Julia Reyna and her husband, Rich, and Kerri Ahart, all of St. Peters; and three uncles, Keith and Kevin Ahart, both of St. Peters, and Joshua Barker of Fredericktown.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Frances Kay Wommack.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Charles E. House

TUCSON, Ariz. - Charles E. House of Payson, Ill., and Oro Valley, Ariz., died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Northwest Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.

No services are scheduled. A private memorial service will be at a later date. The Adair Funeral Home Avalon Chapel in Tucson, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; one son, Charles Grant House; one daughter, Beth Lane; and five grandchildren.

Mr. House was a local farmer and businessman. He served on the Payson High School Board when the new high school was built. He served on the Illinois Livestock Producers Board for 25 years and was a member of the Adams County Historical Society. He served on the board of the State Street Bank for many years and he developed Briarwood Subdivision in Payson and Carnoustie Lane in Quincy, Ill. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and was an avid hunter. He was a member of the Payson Congregational Church, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and was an Eagle Scout.

Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America and the Payson Congregational Church, 101 S. Park, Payson, Ill. 62360.

John Lineberry Sr.
July 25, 1934 - Jan. 8, 2002

SILEX - John L. Lineberry Sr., 67, of Greenville, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Three Rivers North Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Silex. The Rev. Gene Lineberry will officiate. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery near Silex.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lineberry was born July 25, 1934, in Wardell to Zelma and Alva Patton Lineberry.

He was married to Vauda Lee Hammett on May 14, 1951. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, John L. Lineberry Jr. of Goldwater, Dennis R. Lineberry of Foristell and Ronnie D. Lineberry of Greenville; one daughter, Tammy L. Schlichtemier of Foristell; one brother, Harold G. Lineberry of Advance; one sister, Carmen Harvey of Montgomery City; seven grandchildren; and a special family friend, Robin Voegtlin of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister

Mr. Lineberry lived in the Silex and Foristell areas for several years before moving to Greenville in 1980. He owned and operated Lineberry Excavating near Silex for several years and also owned and operated Skyline Motors in Foristell for many years. He owned and operated Lineberry Development in Greenville before retiring.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Pallbearers will be Johnathon Lineberry, Bill Hoskins, Tim Hoskins, Jamie Gannon, Justin Habeck and Rob Slack.

Beth Buzzard
Sept. 6, 1960 - Jan. 7, 2002

SHELBINA - Beth Buzzard, 41, of Shelbina, died at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at her home.

Private family services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Shelbina. Tom Plumb will officiate. Burial will be at the Shelbina Cemetery.

Ms. Buzzard was born Sept. 6, 1960, in Shelbyville, Ill., to Rodell and Elizabeth A. Houk Buzzard of Shelbina.

She was never married.

Survivors include her parents; one brother, Warren Ray Buzzard of Shelbina; one sister, Barbara Carol Bell of Edinburg, Ill.; five nephews, Dale, Dwayne, Brandon and John Buzzard, all of Shelbina, and Michael Bell of Taylorville, Ill.; one niece, Alecia Dvorsky of Naples, Fla.; two great-nieces; and three great-nephews.

The family wishes to include as survivors, one sister-in-law, Brenda Marcielle Buzzard; and one brother-in-law, Bob Bell.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence and Pearl Buzzard and Alva and Katie R. Houk; and a great niece, Nichole Raye Stade.

Ms. Buzzard graduated from Beecher City High School in 1978, was a Christian by faith and was a self-employed painter.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Walter S. Baer Jr.
March 3, 1919 - Jan. 8, 2002

LOUISIANA - Walter S. Baer Jr., 82, of Louisiana, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Earl Wood will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Baer was born March 3, 1919, in Waynesboro, Pa., to Walter and Georgia Cummins Baer.

He was married to Dorothy R. Robertson on June 11, 1943. She survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Judy Strum of Alberta, Canada, Dorothy Maxey of Eunice, Sandra Pauletich of St. Louis and Georgia Ditch of St. Charles; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Lang of Lansdale, Pa.; and one brother, Max Baer of Belmaur, N.J.

The family wishes to include as survivors, three sons-in-law, Eric Strum, Ted Maxey and Bill Pauletich.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Baer.

Mr. Baer was a U.S. Navy career man and served his country during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Masons and had received a 50-year pin.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
