Florence R. Hasty
Feb. 14, 1922 - Jan. 25, 2002

BOWLING GREEN - Florence Rose Hasty, 79, of Bowling Green, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Bowling Green City Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Amelung will officiate.

No visitation is planned. Kirks Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hasty was born Feb. 14, 1922, in St. Louis to Fred and Bertha Rose Hertzmann Reed.

She was married to Carl Hasty. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Iantha Shinn of Bowling Green; and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hasty was a homemaker.

Memorials may be made to the Pike County Home Health and Hospice.

Charles M. (Mike) Miller
Oct. 3, 1942 - Jan. 24, 2002

HANNIBAL - Charles M. (Mike) Miller, 59, of Blue Springs and formerly of Hannibal, died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at his home.

A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Blue Springs.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Holy Family Church in Hannibal. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Mr. Miller was born Oct. 3, 1942, in Altamont to Charles F. and Vera Stephens Miller.

He was married to Mary Fitzgerald on Feb. 5, 1977, in Manhattan, Kan. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Charles Miller of Hannibal; three sons, David Charles Miller of Westfield, Mass., Thomas Franklin Miller of Stafford, Texas, and Mathew Chester Miller of Blue Springs; one daughter, Marya Rae Drew of Blue Springs; three brothers, Stephen A. Miller of West Hills, Calif., Terry J. Miller of Hannibal and Gregory Lee Miller of Abingdon, Ill.; four sisters, Teresa Keller of Belle, Patricia Clark of Hannibal, Monica Harris of Moberly and Jean Marie Aldrich of Jefferson City; and five grandchildren, Robert Miller, Kaitlyn Miller, Meghan Drew, Mason Drew and Jesse Brown.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The family wishes to include that he was also preceded in death by one nephew, Colin Miller.

Mr. Miller graduated in 1960 from McCooey High School in Hannibal. He was an automotive parts manager for Keystone Chrysler in Mission, Kan., and belonged to the Greater Kansas City Parts and Service Guild. He enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Blue Springs and a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in the Missouri National Guard of Hannibal.

Memorials may be made to the Kansas City Hospice or St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be Chris Miller, Nathan Miller, Steve Rowe, Shawn Rowe, Trevor Rowe and Bobby Miller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Fitzgerald, Jeffrey Fitzgerald, Vikki Fitzgerald Lockhart, Michael Patrick Fitzgerald, John Paul Cummings, Robert Fitzgerald, Jessica Fitzgerald, Michael Mathew Fitzgerald, Ann Miller and Amy Miller.

Emery Icke
Sept. 26, 1906 - Jan. 27, 2002

CLARENCE - Emery Icke, 95, of Clarence, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Clarence Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Clarence. Jim Bilbro will officiate. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services today at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Icke was born Sept. 26, 1906, in Anabel to Zephaniah Robert and Alzada Jones Icke.

He was married to Nellie Shields in Clarence on Feb. 16, 1931. She survives.

Other survivors include nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Hutcherson; and three brothers, Hubert, Delmer and Gilbert Icke.

Mr. Icke was a member of the Baptist Church in Clarence and worked for Ellyson Salvage for a number of years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Memorials may be made to the Clarence Care Center.

Dorothy L. Tomei
April 3, 1916 - Jan. 27, 2002

SHELBINA - Dorothy Levon Tomei, 86, of Shelbina, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta, Ga.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Shelbina. Brother Jim Bilbro will officiate. Entombment will be at the Shelbina Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Tomei was born April 3, 1916, in Hagers Grove to Louis Willard and Lela Beryl Mahoney Copenhaver.

She was married to Dr. Joseph Tomei on June 18, 1942, in Mexico. He preceded her in death July 6, 1996.

Survivors include one daughter, Toni Tomei Vullo of Atlanta, Ga.; and two stepgrandsons.

The family wishes to include as a survivor, one son-in-law, Enzo Vullo.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Victoria Tomei.

Mrs. Tomei was a member of the Shelbina Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Haven House Hospice.

Bessie C. Hiles
July 5, 1905 - Jan. 29, 2002

LOUISIANA - Bessie Chapuis Hiles, 96, of Louisiana, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Maple Grove Nursing Home in Louisiana.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Earl Wood will officiate. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hiles was born July 5, 1905, near Louisiana to William and Mary Louise Benson Hallows.

She was married to Leon E. Chapuis on Nov. 2, 1929. He preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1971. She later married Tinsley Hiles on Oct. 18, 1976. He preceded her in death in March 1979.

Survivors include one son, Leon L. Chapuis of Louisiana; three daughters, Dorothy Lamberson of Frankford, Margaret Spotts of Henderson, Nev., and Virginia Penrod of Louisiana; one sister, Ruth Walker of Louisiana; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to include as survivors, one daughter-in-law, Donna Chapuis; and three sons-in-law, Paul Lamberson, Relton Spotts and Clyde Penrod.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, William Hallows, Carl Hallows, Fred Hallows, Luther Hallows and Victor Hallows; three sisters, Clara Belle Hallows who died at birth, Ruby Patrick and Mary Patrick Rodiquez.

The family wishes to include that her identical twin sister, Nettie Griffith Sisson, died in 2000; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Frances Chapuis, died in 1996.

Mrs. Hiles attended the Vine Hill Elementary School and Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green. She had been employed as a nurse's aide for Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for a number of years, then later at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana as a nurse's aide. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisiana and a member of the Ladies Quilting Club at the First Presbyterian Church in Louisiana.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund in Louisiana or the Pike County Home Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Kody J. Powell
Nov. 1, 2001 - Jan. 28, 2002

AUXVASSE - Kody Jonathan Powell, 2 months, of Stoutsville, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Maupin Funeral Home in Auxvasse. Burial will be at the Hydesburg Cemetery in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Kody was born Nov. 1, 2001, in Fulton to Eric Powell and Shannon Cooper.

Survivors include his parents; one sister, Lillian Cooper of Stoutsville; maternal grandparents, James and Julie Niekamp; paternal grandparents, Charmaine and Pedro Chavez of Stoutsville; paternal grandfather, Mike Powell of Hannibal; and great-grandparents, Danny and Patricia Powell of Hannibal.

The familiy wishes to include as survivors, five uncles, Mike and Nick Powell, Marc Milton, Jerry Cooper and Ryan Niekamp; three aunts, Elizabeth Niekamp, Chelsea Niekamp and Aurora Powell; other relatives; and many dear friends.

Memorials may be made to S.I.D.S. Foundation, 143 Grand Ave., St. Louis, Mo. 63122.

Jeanne D. Cleaver
May 29, 1926 - Jan. 27, 2002

LOUISIANA - Jeanne Demoss Cleaver, 75, of Louisiana, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Maple Grove Nursing Home in Louisiana.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisiana. Her remains were cremated. The Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Cleaver was born May 29, 1926, in Walt Hill, Neb. to Luther William and Genevieve Ruth Morgan Demoss.

Survivors include cousins.

Ms. Cleaver attended the Ward Belmont College in the state of Tennessee and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She was employed as a legal secretary for Bronson, Bronson and McKinnon in San Francisco, Calif., for a number of years. After returning to the state of Missouri, she was employed at a law firm in Jefferson City until her retirement. She was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisiana and Pi Phi Sorority. She was a member of PEO Chapter GH in Louisiana and a former member of the Louisiana Library Board.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, in care of the funeral home.

Jerry P. Sampson

HANNIBAL - Jerry P. Sampson, 80, of Hannibal, died at 3:22 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla.

Funeral services are pending at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Eldridge H. Smith
Nov. 27, 1908 - Jan. 18, 2002

WINFIELD - Eldridge Hadley Smith, 93, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Makin Memorial United Methodist Church in Winfield. The Rev. Sue Jackson will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul UCC Cemetery near Old Monroe.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 27, 1908, in Winfield to Clyde Eldridge and Daisy Myrtle Montgomery Smith.

He was married to Elfrieda Elizabeth Arnhold in 1942, in Foley. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Harold Smith of Winfield; one daughter, Barbara Coons of Winfield; five grandchildren, Tonya Roman, Perry Smith, Gail Degrendale, Debbie Clintsman and Hope Floyd; and five great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to include as survivors, one daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith; his daughter's special friend, Clint Bechtel; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Daserine M. Elston and Sylvia Krieg.

Mr. Smith was employed as a carpenter for Southern Cross for a number of years before retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Makin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the St. Charles County Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.

Carl A. Tallman
Feb. 9, 1935 - Jan. 17, 2002

PALMYRA - Carl A. Tallman, 66, of Emerson, died at 3:47 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Marion County.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Tallman was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Hester to David W. and Illa Mae Martin Tallman.

He was married to Helen M. Schafer on Dec. 29, 1956, in Quincy, Ill. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Cathy Jo Tallman of Emerson; two sons, Randy Tallman of Palmyra and Jamie Tallman of Emerson; five sisters, Alice Mahoney, Edna Smith and Betty McFarland, all of Keokuk, Iowa, Maxine Schrader of Plainville, Ill., and Diane Peterschmidt of Montrose, Iowa; and two brothers, Wayne Tallman of St. Francisville and Robert Tallman of Taylor.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Carl W. and Kelly R. Tallman; his parents; one sister, Leola Keonig; and one brother Wesley Tallman.

Mr. Tallman worked at Moorman's in Quincy for 19 years and retired in 1988. He also had farmed in the Taylor and Emerson areas for the past 14 years. He was a member of the Missouri Pork Producers and the Philadelphia Neighborhood Watch Program. He was a member of Hester Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to WTJR Broadcasting in Quincy or Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Pallbearers will be David Redd, Pat Snodgrass, Darin Griesbaum, Kyle Phillips, Marvin Bringer, Stan Peters, Glenn Griesbaum and Jack Sharkey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Fuller, Mac Miller, Russell Pindell, Don Redd, Andy Kaiser, Tom Kane, Paul Durst and Leo Hildebrand.
