David (Boy) Culp Jr.

MOUNT WASHINGTON, Ky. - David Edward (Boy) Culp Jr., 64, of Fairdale, Ky., and formerly of Hannibal, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Caritas Medical Center.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Kenwood Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

No visitation is planned. McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home in Mount Washington, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Culp was born in Hannibal.

He was married to Ellen Collins. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Randy Culp and Sam Culp; his mother, Charlotee Hardin; two sisters, Nancy Jackson and Pat Molles; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ramona Wood; and his father, David E. Culp.

Mr. Culp was a retired electrician with United Electric. He was a member of Local 369 and Kenwood Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

William Calvin
July 13, 1923-Jan. 26, 2003

QUINCY, Ill. - William (Rocket) Calvin, 79, of Quincy, Ill., died at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Allen will officiate. Burial with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 will be at Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 28, and Wednesday morning until time of services at the funeral home.

Mr. Calvin was born July 13, 1923, in Paris, Ill., to Carl and Mae Mohler Calvin.

He was married to Delores R. Lisenbee on July 30, 1942, in Paris, Ill. She preceded him in death Nov. 1, 1997.

Survivors include his companion, Mary Hefley of Quincy; two daughters, Linda Barry of Quincy and Sharon Wilson and husband, Mike, of Hannibal; two sons, Billy Joe Calvin of Hannibal and Robert Calvin and wife, Dorene, of Hutchinson, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Calvin of Coatsburg, Ill.; and one sister, Thelma Stortzum of Auburndale, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Patsy Barton and Debra Bradley; two sisters, Emaline Deivers and Betty Rhodes; and one son-in-law, Orville Barry.

Mr. Calvin was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 30-year member of the 12 Step Recovery Group and a member of Local Union No. 919. He was employed in construction for several years.

Bobbie G. Montgomery
Dec. 19, 1933-Jan. 25, 2003

LADDONIA - Bobbie Gene Montgomery, 69, of Laddonia, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Laddonia. The Rev. Keith Gordon will officiate. Burial will be at Laddonia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Montgomery was born Dec. 19, 1933, in Hannibal to Carl D. and Hattie Fern Montgomery.

He was married to Bonnie Knapp on Dec. 25, 1956, in Hannibal. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert Montgomery and Bradley Montgomery, both of Laddonia; and one granddaughter, Kellie Montgomery of Laddonia.

He was preceded in death by one infant sister, Dorothy Montgomery.

Mr. Montgomery was a lifetime area resident. He was employed by Galloway and Naysmiith for 16 1/2 years and was self-employed for the past several years. He was a member of Hannibal Coin Club and the NRA.

Memorials may be made to Laddonia Cemetery Association.

Sylvia M. Carroll
Dec. 22, 1909 - Jan. 22, 2003

MONROE CITY - Sylvia Maude Carroll, 93, of Monroe City, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Monroe City Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Monroe City. Dr. Milton Baumgardner will officiate. Burial will be at Ariel Cemetery in Ralls County.

Visitation was Sunday at Garner Funeral Home in Monroe City.

Mrs. Carroll was born Dec. 22, 1909, in Philadelphia to Charlie and Blanche Forner Brower.

She was married to Avery Carroll on June 29, 1929, in Palmyra. He preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1960.

Survivors include three sons, Ken Carroll and wife, Rheyma of Monroe City, Charles Carroll and wife, Loretta, of Chico, Calif., and Eugene Carroll and wife, Beverly, of Emden; 13 grandchildren, Becky Hanson, Brandi Laffins, Chuck Carroll, Todd Carroll, Kent Collins, Danny Carroll, Dale Wayne Carroll, Damon Carroll, Deanna Blickhan, Wayne Carroll, Janet Bourne, Connie Benson and Steven Carroll; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alta Sharp of Monroe City; one niece, Wanda Hanneman; one nephew, Richard Sharpe; and one daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Watson Carroll; one sister, Altah Brower Smith; and two grandchildren, Dean and Cynthia Carroll.

Mrs. Carroll graduated from Palmyra High School. For many years she lived in California where she was employed by Grant's Department stores. After returning to Missouri she came to Monroe City to make her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe City and enjoyed her Bible study with her church friends. She enjoyed her grandchildren and loved to travel when her health permitted.

Memorials may be made to Hannibal-LaGrange Mission Center, 2800 Palmyra Road, Hannibal, Mo. 63401.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Carroll, Steven Carroll, Dale W. Carroll, Damon Carroll, Pat Benson and Bill Bourne.

John C. Henry
June 21, 1925 - Jan. 23, 2003

LOUISIANA - John C. Henry, 77, of Louisiana, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the Moore-Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Earl Wood will officiate. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Henry was born June 21, 1925, in Louisiana to Ben and Clara Belle Boston Henry.

Survivors include two sisters, Genevieve Richardson of Louisiana and Emma Mae Spriggs of Little Rock, Ark.; one cousin, Henry Hueffner of Bowling Green; three nieces, Kathryn Donnelly of Louisiana, Clara Castle of Helena, Mont., and Florence Boyle of Rosamond, Calif.; three nephews, Bill Emmett of Medford, Ore., Billy Spriggs of Louisiana and James Henry of the state of Georgia; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. Henry had been a clerk for Missouri Edison Power Co. in Louisiana until his retirement.

Memorials may be made to Pike County Home Health Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Dolores N. (Dee) Gottman
Nov. 22, 1930 - Jan. 25, 2003

HANNIBAL - Dolores N. (Dee) Gottman, 72, of Hannibal died at 10:14 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Gerald Begley will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gottman was born Nov. 22, 1930, in Hannibal to Edwin L. and Goldie M. Webster Wilson.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Shanks and wife, JoAnn, of Hannibal and Louis (Butch) Shanks Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Cheri Barnes and husband, Oral, of Monroe City, and Brenda Bush of Hannibal; three brothers, Danny Wilson and wife, Gayle, of Cocoa, Fla., David Wilson and wife, Carol, of Canton and Dennis Wilson of Rensselaer; six sisters, Dorothy Ragland and Donna Russell, both of Hannibal, Doris Jean Mowen and husband, Bob, of Center, Dorita Chabak and husband, Bill, of Decatur, Ill., Diane Keshari and husband, Hossien, of Sylvania, Ohio, and Debora Adams of Libertyville, Iowa; and seven grandchildren, Jay Coons, Liz Hendren, Sheri Shanks, Stephanie Yohn, Robin Pallera, Todd Shanks and Natosha Russell; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard Shanks; and one granddaughter, Lynn Marie Yohn.

Mrs. Gottman formerly worked at Western Printing Co., and she also formerly worked in the cafeteria for Hannibal Public Schools. She was a Baptist by faith.

Pallbearers will be Derek Hendren, Bill Crenshaw, Bobbie Mowen, Chad McAfee, Rick Russell, Darrell Ragland and Billy Coons II.

Matthew Dean Knox
April 29, 1979 - Jan. 26, 2003

WINFIELD - Matthew Dean Knox, 23, of Foley, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, in a single vehicle accident near Winfield.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. The Rev. Denny Harrington will officiate. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery near Foley.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Knox was born April 19, 1979, in Big Bear City, Calif., to Dennis Dean and Carole Denise O'Rourke.

Survivors include his parents of Foley; one sister, Sabra Dianne Knox of St. Charles; his paternal grandparents, Billy C. and Hazel Knox Sr. of Wappapello; his maternal grandfather, Joe Howard O'Rourke of St. Peters; his maternal grandmother, the Rev. Carole Hendrickson of Neelyville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mr. Knox was employed for a number of years as a welder and was a member of Crossroad of Life Church near Foley.

Memorials may be made to his family, in care of the funeral home.

Elsie Helen Teague
Sept. 24, 1901 - Jan. 29, 2003

LOUISIANA - Elsie Helen Teague, 101, of Bowling Green and formerly of Whiteside, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Moore-Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Whiteside Baptist Church in Whiteside. The Rev. William Patrick will officiate. Burial will be at the Mill Creek Cemetery near Silex.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.

Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Teague was born Sept. 24, 1901, in Whiteside to Henry Allen and Ada Luck Rector.

She was married to Howard Teague on Nov. 25, 1923, in Bowling Green. He preceded her in death Jan. 29, 1981.

Survivors include two daughters, Grace M. Street and husband, Fred Jr., of Silex and Bonnie J. Street of Fenton; one daughter-in-law, Nora L. Teague of Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son; one son-in-law; three brothers; and two sisters.

Margaret Cole
March 17, 1915 - Jan. 15, 2003

MEXICO - Margaret Cole, 87, of Mexico, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico. Burial will be at Fern Chapel Cemetery near Perry.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Miss Cole was born March 17, 1915, in Perry, to Justin G. and Mary M. Bailey Cole.

Survivors include two nephews, Charles Cole and wife Linda, and Stanford Cole and wife Margie, all of Perry; one niece, Annette Raines and husband Steve of Riverton, Wyo.; two great-nephews; six great-nieces; and 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Gordon Cole.

Miss Cole was a graduate of Kirksville State Teachers College and had taught in the Mexico public schools until her retirement in 1976. Her teaching career spanned 41 years and touched thousands of lives. She taught seven years in rural schools in Ralls County, two years in Milan, and the remaining 32 years at Eugene Field School in Mexico. She was truly devoted to her profession and continually displayed commitment to educational excellence. In 1992, she was awarded the Pioneer in Education Award by the Mexico School District. She was a part-time pianist at Fern Chapel Church near Perry many years ago. She was currently a member of Mexico United Methodist Church and was active in the Bruce-Reed-Hopkins Circle of the church.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Fern Chapel Cemetery Association, in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, Mo. 65265.

Norma Jean Tapley
May 16, 1931 - Jan. 14, 2003

LOUISIANA - Norma Jean Tapley, 71, of Louisiana, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Earl Wood will officiate. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tapley was born May 16, 1931, in Louisiana to Thurston and Bessie Turnbough Pierce.

She was married to Thomas Franklin Tapley on June 1, 1951, in Paris. He preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Tapley of Sweetwater, Tenn., and Thomas Franklin (Tinker) Tapley of Louisiana; one daughter, Lori Schreck of St. Charles; and three grandchildren, Kristen Smith of Jacksonville, Ill., and Lindsey Schreck and Thomas Schreck, both of St. Charles.

Mrs. Tapley had been employed at the Louisiana Press Journal for a number of years.

Memorials may be made to the Hannibal Humane Society, P.O. Box 205, Hannibal, Mo. 63401.

MONROE CITY - Jean A. Baker, 78, of Monroe City, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at her home.

Funeral services are pending at Garner Funeral Home and Chapel in Monroe City.
