Thelma Ione Clark of St. Louis, formerly of the Fredericktown area, passed away on May 16, 2003, at the Manor Grove Home, at the age of 86 years. She was born on April 17, 1917, at Crossroads, MO, the daughter of the late Albert and Maggie (Tucker) Buckingham-White. She married the late Charles Alvin Clark in 1963. In addition to her parents and her husband, Charles Clark, she is also preceded in death by her four sisters, Ethyl Govro, Donna Bobbish, Pearl Smith, and Florence Revelle. She is survived by four children, Judith LaBruyere and Dennis Edward Green of Kansas City, Sandra Kyle of St. Louis, Elizabeth Schilling of Columbia, SC, one brother, Howard White and wife Joann of the state of Arizona, seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Kyle of St. Louis, Lisa Nordstrom of Oberursel, Germany, Andre LaBruyere, Randy and Tina Green, all of Kansas City, Mark Schilling of Columbia, SC and Chris Schilling of Frankfurt, Germany, and nine great-grandchildren from ... all over. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

After graduating from Mine La Motte High School, Thelma hitchhiked to California during the Great Depression, which was a statement to the independent and adventurous woman she was to become. She was an avid reader and loved learning. She was an honorable and hard working person who will be missed. For a few years, Mrs. Clark was Post-Mistress of the Mine La Motte Post Office, along with her mother, Maggie White.

Wilma Clair Zanker of Park Hills passed away on May 13, 2003, at Country Meadows Nursing Center at the age of 81 years. She was born on April 4, 1922, in Shannon County, MO, the daughter of the late Waldo and Effie (Barr) Breeden. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Zanker, four brothers, Paul, Lloyd, Leslie, and Dick Breeden, and a sister, Elsie Tallis. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Dunn and Barbara Ditz of St. Louis, two sisters, Laura Lucas of Park Hills and Billie Stevens of the State of Texas, five grandchildren, Scott Dunn and wife Courtney, Eric Dunn, Johanna Dunn, David Ditz, and Steven Ditz, and a great-grandson, Cooper Dunn. Nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Zanker owned and operated a resort with her husband. She enjoyed spending time with friends and discussing politics. She was also known for her sense of humor.

Dorothy Barker

Dorothy Barker of Glendale, formerly of the Farmington area, passed away on May 12, 2003, at her residence at the age of 87 years. She was born on August 12, 1915, at Paragould, AR, the daughter of the late Elbert and Hattie (Clary) Pigmon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Barker. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Tom) Quaite of Glendale, three sisters, Laverle Bowman of Malden, MO, Irene Hollowell of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Phyllis Johnson of Vandusen, MO, a brother, Harold Pigmon of Memphis, TN, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Barker worked at the Ruth Doll Beauty Shop as a beautician and was a member of the Webster Hills United Methodist Church in St. Louis. She enjoyed dancing and growing flowers.

William Thomas Wood

William Wood was born June 2, 1922, at Farmington, the son of the late Thomas and Lena (Chartrau) Wood. He was also preceded in death by brother, James Wood and sister, Doris Yeager. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (King) Wood, three daughters, Sue (Mrs. Art) Herrmann, of St. Louis, Linda (Mrs. Rick) Crawford of Incline Village, NV, and Donna (Mrs. Eric) Nations of Klamath Falls, OR, seven grandchildren, Matthew Herrmann and wife Heather, Ann Herrmann, Gregory Crawford, Jason Crawford, Andrea, Lauren and Erin Nations. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Wood served his country proudly in the South Pacific during World War II as a Marine Master Technical Sergeant in the MABS-1. He participated in the defense of Guadalcanal: New Georgia Operation.

Gerald Bay was born on November 6, 1921, at Boss, the son of the late John A. and Elizabeth (McCrory) Bay. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine (Stafford) Bay, a son, Gary Wayne Bay, and three brothers, Harold, Maurice, and Roy Bay. He is survived by two sons, Robert Bay of Eugene, OR, and James Bay and wife Evelyne of Farmington, four grandchildren, James, Jeanette, Jill and Matthew, a great-grandson, Nathaniel, a sister-in-law, Irene Bay of Farmington, and special niece, Marlene Reed of Hot Springs, AR. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Edna Ruth Gobble was born on October 9, 1930, at Morristown, TN, the daughter of the late Bill and Minnie (Bacon) Lambert. She was preceded in death by her husband George Gobble. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Gobble of Crocker, MO, by four sons, George Gobble, Jr. of Springfield, MO, Kenneth Gobble of St. Louis, Keith and John Gobble of Kansas City, MO and by a sister, Doris King. Other relatives and friends at the NHC Healthcare of Desloge also survive.

Truman Loness

Truman Loness was born on January 10, 1927, at Annapolis, MO, the son of the late Ervin and Nora (Bounds) Loness. He was also preceded in death by a son Allen. He is survived by wife, Sherry Loness, Desloge, two daughters, Debra and Teresa, four step-children, Richard, Julie, Jonie and Jenessa, four brothers, William, Leo, Charles and Edward Loness, all of St. Louis, and a sister, Gladys Schmidt also of St. Louis. Several grandchildren, other friends and relatives also survive.

Mr. Loness served with United States Army.

Nancy Scott

Nancy Scott of Fredericktown, formerly of Farmington, passed away on July 29, 2003 at Madison Medical Center at the age of 61 years. She was born on November 16, 1941, at Maryville, MO, the daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Bell) Wiget. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Scott, by one brother, Paul Wiget and wife Susan of Annada, MO, one nephew, Cliff Wiget, three nieces, Amber Wiget, Brandy Wiget, and Sabrina Wiget, and by aunt Betty and uncle George Brunner of Fenton, MO. Other relatives and friends also survive.

She worked at Southeast MO Mental Health Center for many years.

Minnie Lee Givens
January 24, 1919 - July 28, 2003
Farmington, Missouri

Minnie Givens passed away on July 28, 2003 at Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center at the age of 84 years. She was born on January 24, 1919, at Farmington, the daughter of the late Edward and Mattie Irene (Hill) Byington. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William G. Givens, a brother, Earl Byington, and two sisters, Bernice McClintock and Irene Bartlett. She is survived by a nephew, Richard Bartlett and wife Jeana of Martinez, GA and two great-nephews.

Mrs. Givens worked as a Clerical Supervisor for many years with the City of Corpus Christi, TX. After she moved to the Farmington area, she volunteered at the Thrift Shop of the Community Churches at Farmington. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington.

Ronald Dean Barnhouse

Ronald Dean Barnhouse was preceded in death by parents, Rosa (Chapman) and Theodore Barnhouse, sister, Bonnie Burch, and brother, Theodore Barnhouse. survived by wife, Verna Barnhouse, CA, two daughters, Vicky (Mrs. Jim)Findley, CA, and Carol Stroth of Colorado Springs, CO, grandson, Stacey Findley, VA, brother, Dan Barnhouse and wife, Mary Lou, OK, sister, Betty Hayes, AZ, six nephews, Ted Barnhouse and wife Vickie, Rod Barnhouse and wife Darlinda, all of Doe Run, Steve Barnhouse and wife Carla of TX, Joe Barnhouse and wife Kelly of Farmington, Mike Burch and Tim Burch, both of Sullivan, three nieces, Jane (Mrs. Bill) McDonald, AZ, Darla and Amy Barnhouse, both of OK.

Mr. Barnhouse served with the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War aboard the U.S.S. Kittyhawk and retired from the Navy in 1973.

He was a member of the VFW Post #5896, American Legion Post #416 and Amvets Post #113, all of Farmington.

Mary Fleck

Mary was born on December 13, 1945, at St. Ann, the daughter of the late Paul S. Polete and Glenda (Meador) Polete. She is survived by a son, Robert Fleck of Farmington, three daughters, Melanie (Mrs. Terrel) Hollinger of Farmington, Alice (Mrs. Jeff) Gregson of Marietta, GA, and Kimberly (Mrs. Tim) Richbough of Florissant, a sister, Margaret Barth of Farmington and two grandchildren, Wheeler Gregson and Lyndsay Hollinger. Numerous friends and other relatives also survive.

She worked as a nurse at SEMO Mental Health Center and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington.

He was born on July 2, 1951,at DeSoto, the son of the late Dora (Maness)West and Oral "Ole" Schrum. He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Hull) Schrum, a son, Chad Schrum of Farmington, three daughters, Melissa Schrum of Bismarck, Brandy (Mrs. Woody)White of Farmington, and Tara (Mrs. Erik) Mickelsen of St. Paul, MN, a brother, Ole Schrum of DeSoto, two sisters, Rose Womble of Bismarck and Tina Nelms of Cape Girardeau and two grandsons, Dillion and Brady White.

Mr. Schrum was an active member of the Farmington Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for 25 years. He worked as a Correctional Officer at Farmington Correctional Center and was also owner of 'Bob's Custom Striping.'

William Elvis Hardin of Farmington passed away on July 18, 2003, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, at the age of 72 years. He was born on March 24, 1931, at Thebes, IL, the son of the late Grethel (Hopkins) and James Monroe Hardin, Sr. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jackie, James Jr., Sidney, and Cecil. He is survived by his wife, Patsy (Sanderson), a son, Mark Wayne Hardin and wife Mary, a daughter, Cheryl McKelvey and husband Mark, four grandchildren, Rebecca and Sean Sullivan, Brian and Billy Hardin and great grandson, Drake Sullivan , all of St. Louis, four brothers, Randall , Gordon , Gerald, and Donald, two sisters, June Hendrix and Naomi Ruth Crawford, a very close friend, John McClary, and beloved companion, Fanci. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Hardin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired from McDonnell-Douglas. He was a member of the Farmington Masonic Lodge, Moolah Temple, ECMO Shrine, and the Three Rivers Shrine Club of Poplar Bluff.
