Betty Louise Clark of Farmington passed away on February 5, 2004, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center at the age of 69 years. She was born on January 16, 1935, in Houston, TX, the daughter of the late Algie Charlie and PairLee Albert(Turpin) Chandler. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles James, a daughter, Jo LaVonne Brooks. She is survived by two sons, Brad Clark and wife Toni of Park Hills, Stacey Clark and wife Terri of Farmington, a brother, three sisters and by seven grandchildren, Brandi, Jacob, Grayson, Jonah, Kim, Bobby and Frank James. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Betty was a homemaker. She also was a member of the First Church of God.

Alice May Grieshaber

Alice May Grieshaber of Farmington passed away on February 5, 2004, at Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center, at the age of 86 years. She was born on September 11, 1917, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Charles and Lena (Metz) Kimmel. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Kimmel and Louis C. Kimmel, grandson, Clint A. Grieshaber, two nephews and a niece. She is survived by daughter, Carol Soderlund of Farmington, three sons, Walter Miller and Allen Grieshaber, both of Farmington and George L. Grieshaber of Bonne Terre, five grandsons, four granddaughters, and eleven great-grandchildren. Several nieces, a nephew and other relatives also survive.

Martha Bernice Kennon of Farmington passed away on February 3, 2004, at Parkland Health Center at the age of 88 years. She was born on February 2, 1916, at Fredericktown, the daughter of the late Oscar A. and Bertha (Wood) Rion. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Kennon, son, Clyde Lynn Kennon, two brothers, Milton and Firman Rion, sister, Lorene Crites, and grandson, Jeffrey Emerson. She is survived by son, Glenn Kennon and wife Sharon of St. Louis, two daughters, Mary Ellen Emerson of Parrish, FL, and Margaret L. Kennon of St. Louis, brother, Ivan Rion and sister, Edith Rion, both of Nashville, TN, five grandchildren: Mark, Kathy, Charles, Sue and Donna, and six great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Kennon was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington. She worked for American General Insurance Company as an office manager and after her retirement she enjoyed being a homemaker.

Emery Lee Hoehn of Ste. Genevieve County passed away on February 1, 2004, at his residence at the age of 84 years. He was born on February 2, 1919, in Denver, CO, to the late Albert and Mrytle Hoehn. He was also preceded in death by his wife Edna, by two sons, Albert and Kenneth, and by a brother, John. He is survived by a son, Russell of Farmington, two daughters, Connie Hoehn and Patsy (Mrs. Roy) Steinc, all of Farmington, and by three grandchildren, Edward and Troy Steinc, and Cynthia Vaughn, by three great-grandchildren, and by cousins, friends, and other relatives.

During World War II he received the Purple Heart while serving his nation in the Pacific Theater of operations with the U.S. Army.

He was born on April 30, 1940, in the State of Arkansas, the son of the late Johnnie and Iva Mae (Goodman) Shelton. He is survived by two daughters, Betty Jo Gilmore of Birmingham, AL, and Robin L. Dillard of Plano, TX, son, John Lynn Shelton of Bay City, MI, five brothers, Edward, James, Billy, Ronnie and Ricky Shelton, sister, Carolyn Clark, and nine grandchildren.

Nadine Edith May Belken of Farmington passed away on January 26, 2004 at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 85 years. She was born on May 22, 1918, at Fredericktown, the daughter of the late John and Wilhelmima Caroline (Tawfall) Kessler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Shelby “Chuck” Belken, son, Paul Albert Belken, brother, Carl Kessler and two sisters, Iloe Hovis and Minnie Downs. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Copeland and husband Larry of St. Charles, and Margie Burnette and husband Terry of Farmington, son, Carl Belken of Fulton, sister, Rosina Osborne of Fredericktown, ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Belken was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Farmington. She worked at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center for many years.

Betty Lou Wood of Farmington passed away on January 25, 2004, at her residence at the age of 71 years. She was born on May 5, 1932, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Clarence T. and Natella (Hampton) Casteel. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Freta Atkinson and Hilda Giesler. She is survived by her loving husband, Earl Wood, two sisters, Thelma Warncke of Farmington and Doris Winheim of Hillsboro, MO, and two brothers, Rev. Clarence Casteel of Annapolis, MO, and Rev. Howard Casteel of Falls City, NE. Nieces, nephews, and numerous friends also survive.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Wood worked for the Mallinckrodt, Inc. She enjoyed camping with her husband Earl and family, projects around the home, and her friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Walter Franklin Hull, 79, passed away January 18, 2004 in St. Louis at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1924, in Iron County, the son of the late Houston and Mildred (Talley) Hull. He was also preceded in death by son, Walter Dale “Sonny” Hull, son-in-law, Robert S. Schrum, two brothers, Edward Hull, Vernon Hull, and two sisters, Rosalee Moser and Leana Montgomery. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Opal N. (Chapman) Hull, three sons, Kenneth Hull, David Hull and wife Becky, Wayne Hull and wife Trish, two daughters, Brenda Eudy and husband Tim, and Audrey Schrum, three brothers, Henry Hull, Cordell Hull and Stanley Hull, and three sisters, Ruby Jones, Shirley Jackson and Darlene Barnhouse, and seven grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive.

Mr. Hull was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 50 years and served as one of the overseers at the Kingdom Hall. He was a union carpenter for 45 years.

William Elmer Winson

William Elmer Winson of Farmington passed away on January 14, 2004, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, at the age of 86 years. He was born on January 10, 1918, at Jerseyville, IL, the son of the late Elmer E. and Maude Pearl (Pickerel) Winson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Lucille Weathers and a brother, Virgil Lee Winson. Before his retirement, Mr. Winson worked as an auto mechanic. He also served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Community Christian Church of Farmington. He is survived by his wife Martha Winson, a son, Richard Winson and wife Mary Alice of Terre Haute, IN, a sister, Mary Louise Thomas of Ridgecrest, CA, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joseph Lee Noll

Joseph Lee Noll of Farmington passed away on January 13, 2004, at Parkland Health Center at the age of 59 years. He was born on February 21, 1944, in St. Louis, the son of the late Peter and Dorothy (Poole) Noll. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Peter John Noll, III, and David Sylvester Noll, a sister, Patsy Magdalen Snyder. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Helen Mae (King) Noll, three sons, Joseph A. Noll, Richard D. Noll and James L. Noll, four daughters, Melody A. (Mrs. Steve) Govreau, Melissa Noll, Helen M. (Mrs. Steve) Pettus, and Rhonda D. (Mrs. Steve) Chitwood, two brothers, Richard A. Noll, Sr. and wife Charlene, Robert J. Noll, Sr., sister, Dorothy (Noll) Coleman, and eight wonderful grandchildren that he cherished. Several special nieces and nephews and friends also survive. Joe will be deeply missed by all who loved him, to have known him was to love him.

Wanda Beatrice Hafner of Farmington passed away on January 12, 2004, at NHC Healthcare, at the age of 68 years. She was born on September 14, 1935, at Farmington, the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (Williams) Crites. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Asa Hafner, and brother, Robert Gene Crites. Mrs. Hafner worked at Southwestern Bell for many years as a switchboard operator. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and going to yard sales. She is survived by son, Wayne Hafner and wife Susan, two daughters, Terri Hafner and Kimberly Hafner, all of Farmington, sister, Margaret Hafner of Park Hills, two brothers, Arthur Thomas Crites, Jr. and wife Carol of Ironton and William Crites and Glenda of Farmington, and three grandsons, Corey Hammers, Stephen Bradley and Justin Hafner, all of Farmington. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Imogene Matthews

Mary Imogene Matthews of Farmington was baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection on January 7, 2004 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, at the age of 91 years. She was born on November 5, 1912, in Ste. Genevieve, the daughter of the late Dewey and Ella (LoJie) Staten. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Dallas Matthews and Edward Matthews, and daughter, Gloria Frost, brother, Dallas Staten, and sister, Lerline Gray. She is survived by her husband, Lynn “Skip” Matthews, three sons, Bill Matthews and Dewey Matthews, both of Farmington, and Charles Matthews and wife, Sharron of St. Louis, daughter, Betty Burnett of Detroit, MI, three sisters, Lucille Bridges of Oklahoma City, OK, Ann Penny of Inkster, MI, and Corrinne Austin of St. Louis, twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends also survive.

Mrs. Matthews was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Post #5896 Ladies Auxiliary. From an article in the Daily Journal several years ago, she was known as “the lady who fed nearly everyone in town.” She was supervisor and head chef for the St. Joseph Catholic School back when they had kindergarten through the 12th grade. She also cooked for many Farmington families and helped with the baking and cooking for many of Farmington’s fundraisings and church socials. She later worked for Dr. Hoctor at State Hospital #4.

William Joseph Staffen of Perryville, formerly of Farmington, passed away on January 3, 2004, at the age of 76 years. He was born on December 7, 1927, at Libertyville, the son of the late Eddie J. and Rose (Steffan) Staffen. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Raymond, and sister, Ida Hahn. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Hail) Staffen, two sons, William Staffen, Jr. and wife Diane of Ste. Genevieve, and Dennis Staffen and wife Doris of St. Mary’s, two daughters, Bonnie (Mrs. Michael) Keir and Sally (Mrs. Greg) Roth, all of Ste. Genevieve, three step-daughters, Pamela Laws and Paula Gutierrez, both of the State of California, and Trish Thomas, of the State of Ohio, a brother, Gene Staffen of Ste.Genevieve, three sisters, Katherine Kennon of Farmington, Eleanor Porter of Ste. Genevieve, and Edna Hahn of Coffman, nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Staffen served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He owned and operated D. and B. Concrete Finishers and worked throughtout the state of Missouri for many years.

Howard Merle Fenimore
January 23, 1916 - January 02, 2004

Interment: Valhalla Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri

Howard Merle Fenimore of Farmington passed away on January 2, 2004 at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 87 years. He was born on January 23, 1916, at Findlay, OH, the son of the late Bob and Gladys (Starr) Fenimore. He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Fenimore. On June 18, 1938, he was united in marriage to Carol (Enghauser) Fenimore, who survives at the home. Also surviving are a grandson Brett Fenimore and wife, Michelle of Farmington, granddaughter Dawn Fenimore of St. Peters, sister Barbara Remmers of the State of Idaho, and three great-grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Fenimore served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He took part in the battle of Iwo Jima and was at the base of Mt. Suribachi when the American Flag was raised. An expert rifleman, he received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Fenimore was a Missouri Highway Patrolman from 1946 to 1976, and retired with the rank of lieutenant. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Farmington Elks Lodge #5896.
