Joe Henry Henderson, Sr. of Farmington passed away on January 2, 2004, at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis, at the age of 87 years. He was born on November 15, 1916, at Newport, AR, the son of the late Charlie and Alberta (King) Henderson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Esther Gross. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene (Price) Henderson, son, Joe Henderson, Jr. and wife Ruth of Florissant, and daughter Kathy Henderson of Farmington, and granddaughter, Brandy Henderson of Florissant. Numerous cousins and friends also survive.

Mr. Henderson proudly served his country with the U. S. Army, and during World War II fought in the Northern France Rhineland campaign.

Mr. Henderson was a member of the Farmington VFW Post #5896. He retired from the Missouri Natural Gas Co. of Farmington, and also served the Farmington Community for many years in several other jobs.

Ray H. Decker of Farmington passed away January 1, 2004, at Camelot Nursing Center, at the age of 84 years. He was born on December 29, 1919, in Ozark County, the son of the late Charles and Essie (Crain) Decker. Ray is survived by a friend, Florence Robinson, and friends at the Pine Valley Boarding Home as well as those at Camelot Nursing Center.

John William Walker of Doe Run passed away on December 30, 2003 at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 72 years. He was born on August 30, 1931, at Fredericktown, to the late William and Bertha (Cook) Walker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Walker, son, David Walker, and two sisters, Wilma Benlin and Rose Jones.He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Walker, son, David Walker, and two sisters, Wilma Benlin and Rose Jones. He is survived by three sons, Tony Walker and wife Martha of Farmington, Pete Walker and wife Robin of De Soto, and Steve Walker of Doe Run, six daughters, Linda (Mrs. Kenneth) Lawrence of Bismarck, Brenda (Mrs. Danny) Lunsford of Farmington, Barbara (Mrs. Jerrel, Jr.) Martin and Kathy (Mrs. Wade) Jones, all of Park Hills, Sharon (Mrs. David) Wheeler of Olathe, KS, and Janice (Mrs. Al) Guerrero of Thousand Oaks, CA, nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Donald Hawn
February 10, 1924 - December 30, 2003
Viburnum, MO

He was preceded in death by nine brothers, Robert, Irvin, Charles, Harry, Julis, James, Emmett, Lester, and Melvin, and by two sisters, Lura Gordon and Mildred Cupples. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Lee Smith Hawn, two children, Jeff Hawn of Farmington and Diane Hawn of St. Charles and a foster child, Earl J Miller (Dickie) of Arkansas. He will be dearly missed by grandchildren Jay and Curt Brewer. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Mr. Hawn served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, on the carrier, Fanshaw Bay. At age 19, he was in the “Battle for Leyte Gulf,” the largest naval battle in the Pacific Theatre which is considered the turning point of the war. He has remained actively involved with his WWII shipmates in the honoring their carrier by reunions and a memorial in San Diego, CA. The Hawn family has been recognized in the Farmington area as 8 of the brothers and sisters served at the same time in WWII.

Mr. Hawn was well known in the area for his church and community service. Through his childhood and early married life, he was active in Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. He has served as a valued member of First Baptist Church in Viburnum for the past forty years. At both churches he was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and song leader. Mr. Hawn was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. When people remember Joe Hawn it will be for his integrity and faithfulness. Every organization he joined benefited from his “behind the scenes” work. He did the hard, manual labor necessary for success without fanfare or praise. He was a kind and gentle husband. He was a good example to his children and grandchildren of how to live an authentic life.

Joe was a retired employee of Doe Run Lead Company with 42 years of service. He was an avid golfer at the company’s country club and did much of the maintenance of the facility so others could continue using the course.

Evelyn Ruth Boren

Evelyn Ruth Boren of Farmington passed away on December 29, 2003, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 69 years. She was born on January 14, 1934, in Tulsa, OK, the daughter of the late Harry J. Parmele and Minnie Vera (Swink) Armes. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Smith and Betty Milam, and brother, Edward Parmele. She is survived by her husband, Keith Boren of Farmington, three sons, Charles Hall and wife Janice of Elora, TN, Thomas Boren of Desloge, and Kenneth Boren and wife Judy of Aurora, CO, four granddaughters, three grandsons, two great- granddaughters, and three sisters, Vera (Mrs. Curtis) Martin of Thayer, Priscilla (Mrs. Robert) Walker of Bath, IL, and Marion (Mrs. Edward) Huff of St. Charles. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Boren was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated a restaurant in Chicago for many years. After moving to this area, they operated the Capital Café in downtown Farmington. The Boren’s then opened up Boren’s Upholstery and Evelyn worked for many years as an upholsterer in this area.

Gerald Paul Dulaney

He was born on August 1, 1934, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of the late Clarence Dulaney and Louise (Hannum) Robinson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ulla (Nillson) Dulaney. He is survived by daughter, Karin Ladd and husband Norman of Farmington, son, Anthony Paul “Tony” Dulaney of Arlington, TX, grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany Ladd, Baron, Audra, Roman, and Hunter Dulaney Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Dulaney proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired as a Lt. Commander with the U. S. Navy and throughout his career he received many medals and awards. Later he served as the State Auditor for Oklahoma. He was a loving dedicated father and grandpa.

William Currington

William Burton Currington of Farmington passed away on December 25, 2003, at the Mineral Area Regional Medical Center at the age of 81 years. He was born on October 4, 1922, at Flat River, the son of the late Wallace and Hattie Fitzwater Currington. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lester, Lindell, Clyde, and Glenn, and by two sisters, Hattie Lee and Bernice. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida Mae (McClanahan) Currington, son Rick Currington of Alamo, CA, by a sister, Nadine Giessing of Farmington, by grandsons Mark William Currington of Dublin, CA, and Scott Ross Currington of Alamo, CA. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Currington worked in the construction industry as a superintendent. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Betty Aileen Blades

Betty Aileen Blades of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, December 24,2003, following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 19, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, to Paul and Victoria Zadorsky, she was married on July 18, 1946 to Robert Blades. Betty was a kind, caring person and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1967. Studying the Bible and sharing God’s Kingdom message brought Betty much joy. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her as one who worked hard all her life to help family, her friends, and others in need. Betty is survived by four children, Robert S. Blades of Great Falls, Montana, Mary Harrison and husband, David, of Bourbon, MO, Shirley Valdez and husband Mark, of Farmington, MO, and Mark David Blades of Arnold, MO, three grandsons, John Blades and wife, Tiffany, of Billings, Montana, Mark Blades and wife Lisa, of Great Falls, Montana, and Nicholas Valdez of Farmington, one granddaughter, Andrea Valdez of Farmington, one great-grandson, Landon Blades and great-granddaughter, Kendal Blades of Great Falls, Montana. She is also survived by three brothers, Robert, Joseph, and Paul Zadorsky, and two sisters, Florence Parelli and Mary Slantic, all of the State of Michigan. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Zadorsky.

James William Morris

James William Morris (Bill) of Farmington passed away on December 18, 2003, at St. Francois Manor. He was born August 17, 1911 at Flat River, father of James W. (Jean) Morris of Ballwin, MO, brother of Adell Strickland of Tusla, OK, grandfather of Eric Morris of Toledo, OH, and Suzanne Raymond of Wildwood, MO, great-grandfather of Christopher, Katie, David, Hannah, and Stephen, and dear friend of Les (Ruth)McCord.

Bill was a skilled welder known for his expert work at refineries, atomic energy plants, pipelines, and shipyards throughout the U.S. and overseas. He was a 32 degree Mason, an avid hunter, and a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Jane Frances Mullich

Jane Frances Mullich of Farmington passed away on December 12, 2003 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, at the age of 50 years. She died peacefully surrounded by her children, mother and sister after an incredibly courageous 8 month battle with leukemia. She became a source of inspiration and awe to all who were involved in her care. She was born on March 1, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Clementine and the late Edward H. Mullich, Jr. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Patrick E. Johnson, M.D., a son, Thomas Edward Johnson, two daughters, Christina Nicole Johnson and Katherine Alyce Johnson, all of the home, two sisters, Patricia (Mrs. Michael) Pleimann and Karin (Mrs. Ronald) Hahn, all of Arnold, and a brother, Edward Mullich III and wife Diane of De Soto. Several nieces, nephews, a great-nephew, other relatives and many friends also survive.

Jane grew up in Arnold and was a 1971 graduate of St. Pius X High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, from Avila College in Kansas City. She was wed to Patrick E. Johnson, MD on April 19, 1980.

She attended church services at First Presbyterian Church and Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington. Jane was a totally devoted mother to her three children placing their health and welfare above all else. She worked tirelessly as a volunteer in the Farmington R-7 School District and constantly strove to improve the academic standards at all Farmington schools. She launched a letter writing campaign that helped to pass the most recent school bond issue. Jane’s true love was photography and her memory will live on forever in the thousands of photographs that she took of area soccer, volleyball and basketball players. Jane was also a true animal lover and she surrounded herself constantly with horses, dogs, cats, rabbits and even several ferrets. This kind and beautiful soul will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Florence Minnie Zimmerman of Doe Run passed away on December 13, 2003, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 76 years. She was born on March 15, 1927, in St. Francois County, the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Minnie (Mayes) Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Zimmerman, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by son, Patrick Zimmerman and wife Thelma of Doe Run, daughter, Fritzie Will and husband Jerry of Farmington, sister, Annabell Herzog, four grandchildren, Patsy Weddle and husband Jeff, Jerry Ray Will and wife Lori, Rick Zimmerman and wife Heather and Ben Zimmerman and wife Jessica, three great-grandchildren, Mitchell Weddle, Camryn and Trey Will, and two special family members, Susie and Emily Thomas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Zimmerman was a member of the Doe Run Church of God. Before retirement she worked for Trimfoot Shoe Company for 42 years.

Osa Muralene Walker of Fredericktown passed away on December 11, 2003, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, at the age of 84 years. She was born on May 1,1919, at Fredericktown, the daughter of the late James Enos and Maude (Bess) Lawrence. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ferman Walker, two brothers, Earl Hinkle and Buddy Scott, and sister, Virginia McCarty. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Farmington on Perrine Street. Before her retirement, she owned and operated the Sunset View Nursing Home. In her spare time she enjoyed listening to blue grass music, working with flowers, cooking, and being with her little dog, Poopsie. She was a good listener. A favored activity was attending craft classes at the nursing home. But most of all, she loved her church and being with young people, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Lee Walker and wife Donna of Knob Lick, four daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Jerry) Kay of Farmington, Peggy (Mrs. Robert) Benson and Bonnie (Mrs. Larry) Guinn, all of Fredericktown, and Frances (Mrs. Chester) Whitmer of Marquand, three sisters, Pauline Chapman of Savannah, MO, Lena Hinkle of Hillsboro, and Betty Scott of the State of Florida, twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Maxine Hazel Widmer of Farmington passed away on December 1, 2003 at Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center at the age of 82 years. She was born on November 2, 1921, at Desloge, the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Gold) Barnes. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Ed Barnes. She is survived by daughter, Peggy (Mrs. Nick) Porter of Farmington, two grandchildren, Matthew Porter of Farmington and Sergeant Christine Porter of the United States Marines stationed in Hawaii, niece, Ethel Donnelly of Farmington and nephew, Raymond Bader of St. Louis.
