Alma Ruby Bayless of Knob Lick passed away on November 30, 2003 at Parkland Health Center at the age of 90 years. She was born on November 12, 1913 in Madison County, the daughter of the late Peter A. and Laura (Canterberry) Jensen. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Jesse E. Jensen and Roy G. Jensen. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert L. Bayless, a son Edwin Dale Bayless and wife Minnie of Knob Lick, a daughter Patricia (Mrs. Charles Barty) Pirtle of St. Peters, two grandchildren, Randall Dale Bayless of knob Lick and Shelia (Mrs. Jason) Bickle of Sharon Hill, PA, and four great-grandchildren, Kenneth and Robert Bayless and their mother Sandy Bayless, and Duncan and Madeline Bickle. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Damion Patrick Dane passed away on November 30, 2003 at Parkland Health Center. Infant son of Jason and Michelle (Meyer) Dane, of Ellington, he is also survived by brother, Justin Anthony Black of the home, maternal grandmother, Linda Meyer of Ellington and paternal grandparents, Tom and Nancy Dane of Farmington, paternal great-grandparents, Ruth and Albert Lyman of Belle Plaine, IA and Jackie Sussel of the State of Ohio. Other family and friends of the family also survive. He was preceded in death maternal grandfather, Michael Meyer, maternal great-grandparents, Levoy (Mickey) Helen Meyer, John and Lore (Toots) Amsden, an uncle, Damion Dane, and an aunt, Patty Meyer.

John Edward Sumakeris of Farmington passed away on May 30, 2004 at the age of 36 years. He was born on March 27, 1968, in Cicero, IL, the son of Victoria (Grasse) Sumakeris of Crystal Lake, IL and Al Sumakeris and wife Ruth of Farmington. He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Lauer) Sumakeris, three sons, Marty Fox and Cory Fox, both of Huntsville, AL, and Chris Fox of Farmington, three daughters, Jessika Jones, Laura Fox and Grace Fox, all of Farmington, two sisters, Tammy DeSpain and Melissa Boyk, both of Crystal Lake, IL, three granddaughters, Calley and Amber Jones, of Farmington and Chelsey Fox of Huntsville, AL, nephew, David DeSpain and niece, Danielle Boyk. Other relatives and a host of friends also survive.

Memorials may be directed to his wife, Debbie Sumakeris and children.

Serenity Elizabeth Garrigus

Serenity Elizabeth Garrigus of Ste. Geneveive passed away on May 21, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident at the age of 23 years. She was born on August 11, 1980, in Festus, MO the daughter of Cheryl Robertson. Mrs. Garrigus was a correctional officer for the Bonne Terre Correctional Facility. She was a 1999 graduate of Farmington Senior High School. Serenity will live in the hearts of many, and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, Steve Garrigus of Ste. Genevieve, MO, by her mother, Cheryl Robertson of Auburn, WA, by two sisters, Amber and Chantel Robertson of Auburn, WA, by her grandparents, Paul and Rowena Pannebecker of Kirkwood, MO, and by her mother and father-in-law, Sharon and Michael Garrigus of Ste. Genevieve, MO. Several other relatives and numerous friends also survive.

Fred Babb Scaggs
February 28, 1942 - May 20, 2004

He is survived by his wife, Opal (Weaver) Scaggs, three daughters, Bobbie (Mrs. Rick) Leitz of Farmington, Billie Nozares of Austin, TX, and Terri Scaggs of Park Hills, three sons, Matt David Scaggs, Josh Scaggs and Bob Scaggs, all of the home, two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Bob) Gordon and Pat Reagan, all of Holt Summit, brother Wes Scaggs and wife Lynn of Farmington, two grandchildren, Rocky Leitz and Heather Leitz, two great grandchildren, Gage Leitz and Kolton Leitz, and by his mother Lois (Babb) Scaggs. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.

He served his country honorably with the United States Navy.

Mr. Scaggs worked for Sterling Lacquer Paint Co. in St. Louis for 30 years. He was a member of the Farmington Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the American Family Association Local Chapter and was very helpful with his work at the Thrift Store and throughout the community.

Ruth Ann Harris

Ruth Ann Harris of Bonne Terre passed away on May 19, 2004, at her residence at the age of 64 years. She was born on January 21, 1940, in Ste. Genevieve County, the daughter of the late Willard and Hilda (Underwood) Wright. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Harris, and a brother, Billy Wright. Mrs. Harris worked for SEMO Mental Health Center as a psychiatric aide and also ran Ruth’s Booth at Shoppers Paradise Flea Market for 15 years. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by a special friend and companion, Raymond Edgar, three sons, Robert (Betty) Wright of Fredericktown, Steven (Teresa) Harris of Farmington, and Kenny (Lisa) Harris of Desloge, a daughter, Diana L. (Mrs. Jackie) Umfleet of Bonne Terre, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four brothers, Tommy, Clarence, Donald, and David Wright, four sisters, Debbie Mesey, Sherry McClure, Patty Conners, and Mary Gordon, a close lifelong friend, Viola Faulkner of Farmington. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Lola Ruth Smith

Lola Ruth Smith of Doe Run passed away on May 18, 2004, at her residence, at the age of 64 years. She was born on September 16, 1939, in Jonesboro, AR, the daughter of the late Huley Haley and Eva Candise (Turner) Gray. Mrs. Smith was an Ordained Minister with Faith Ministries International. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Smith, daughter, Joyce Berry, two sons, Mel Brinkley and Michael Brinkley, sister, Agnes Walls and two brothers, Huley Gray and Fred Gray, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many cherished friends also survive.

Rosa Voneatta Looney
February 23, 1918 - May 17, 2004
Farmington, Missouri

Rosa Voneatta Looney of Farmington passed away on May 17, 2004, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 86 years. She was born on February 23, 1918, in Newton, KS, the daughter of the late Edward Charles and Rosa (Rodgers) Patterson. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lowell Eugene, Donald Charles and Melvin Edward. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Clyde Edward Looney, three daughters, Emily Burr of Bakersfield, CA, Margie Missey and Kathleen Hight, both of Farmington, by five grandchildren, Travis Hight, Cindy Lievanos, Julie Gamboa, Michelle Graves, and Shannon Howard, and by four great grandchildren, Hannah Hight, Sara and Audrey Lievanos, Dylan Graves, and Kate Rene` Howard.

Mrs. Looney retired from the Blue Cross Insurance Company, after having worked there for 14 Years. Rosa will remain in the hearts of many. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at Cape County Memorial Park at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 4207 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.

Frances Lavada Smith

Frances Lavada Smith passed away on May 14, 2004 at Country Meadows of Park Hills, at the age of 94 years. She was born on June 23, 1909, in Fredericktown, the daughter of the late Charles and Lula Villars. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Smith. She is survived by two sisters, Gerladine Villars of Mexico, MO, and Eva Parker of St. Louis. Also surviving are a niece, several nephews, and other friends also survive.

Jean Anne Williams

Jean Anne Williams of Farmington passed away on May 14, 2004, at the Camelot Nursing Center at the age of 75 years. She was born on January 22, 1929, in Ste. Genevieve County, the daughter of the late Rudolph E. and Georgia (nee Blanton) Field. Jean was a member of the Eastern Star, a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, and also a member of the Evening Women's Circle Group for over 30 years. She was a professional horse show judge, judging Missouri Fox Trotters, and Tennessee Walking Horses, and also an avid animal lover. She devoted many years to providing education and instruction in horsemanship to horse lovers of all ages. She assisted her husband in their business, H.E. Williams Termite and Pest Control for many years. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, H.E. Williams of Farmington, by her children, Ashley (wife Pamela) Williams, Bryan Williams, Melanie (husband Kevin) Bullard, all of Farmington, and Suzanne (husband Brad) Kittel of Gonzales, Texas, by her grandchildren, Lauren Williams, Adam Kittel, Kaitlyn Bullard, Ethan Bullard, and Salvador Williams, and by a sister, Virginia (husband Daniel) Thomure of Ozora, MO. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Kilo Diabetes and Vascular Research Foundation, or the Haney Cemetery Maintenance Fund.

Janice Faye Moutray

Janice Faye Moutray of Farmington passed away on May 12, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident at the age of 67 years. She was born on April 18, 1937, in Jackson, MO, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Opal (Hinkle) Varnum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Moutray, Jr., a sister, Millie Neukirk, a brother, Cletus Varnum, a granddaughter, Melissa Keller. Her granddaughter Monica Clark- Heit followed her in death. Janice was a homemaker, where she loved and cared for her family. She was very active in her Native American heritage, and pow wows. Janice will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She is survived by a son, Terry Larson and wife Bev of Union, MO, two daughters, Debra and (Jack) Southers-Howard and Kathy and (Darrell) Dwyer-Hammett of Grand Junction, CO, two sisters, Saundra Huddleston of Pevely and Ina King of Fredericktown, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel after 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2004. Funeral services will be held at the Cozean Chapel on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Rocky Good officiating. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.

Janet F. Ketring, formerly of Farmington, passed away on May 12, 2004, in St. Louis, at the age of 82 years. She was born on July 11, 1921, at Shipman, IL, the daughter of the late Howard R. and Jesse (Halbert) French. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. C. H. Ketring, and step-mother, Alice Waggoner French. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Nancy Ketring Kennedy and husband William F. Kennedy, granddaughter, Kimberly A. Kennedy, all of Wildwood, sister, Mary R. Wise of Farmington, nephew, William H. Wise of Jasper, IN, and special friend Mrs. Irma Tetley of Farmington. Many cherished friends also survive.

Mrs. Ketring was a retired teacher and a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington. She and her husband were residents of Farmington for over 50 years. Her husband Dr. Ketring practiced in the area for 35 years.

Eddie Cory Thompson of Farmington passed away on May 11, 2004 in Ste. Genevieve County at the age of 19 years. He was born on March 20, 1985 in Nuernberg, Germany, the son of Alton Thompson of Bowling Green, MO and Brenda Lee of Doe Run. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alton Thompson, June Russell, Pat Russell and Nina Spickerman. In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, Curtis Thompson and wife Jeri of Farmington and special niece, Samantha Thompson, grandparents, Eddie and Kay Willis of Bismarck, two aunts, Yvonne Halbert and Darla Young both of Bismarck, two uncles, Roger Thompson and Carlis Smith both of Farmington. Several other uncles and aunts, cousins, other relatives, and friends also survive.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing with his Dad, swimming, and the movies. He was well loved by his father, mother, and brother and will always be remembered and never forgotten.

Clarence W. Chambers of Farmington passed away on May 6, 2004, at his residence, at the age of 65 years. He was born on December 17, 1938, in Eldorado Springs, the son of the late Orville and Lois (Haynes) Chambers. Mr. Chambers last worked as a counselor for the Aquinas Treatment Center. He served his country with honor in the United States Navy for 20 years, which included 6 deployments to the Vietnam War. He was a member of the St. Joseph Church of Farmington. He was also a life member of the NRA. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Thelma (Caron) Chambers, three daughters, Suzette (Mrs. John) Morris of Honolulu, HA, Marilyn Shoumake and husband Kenneth of Farmington, and T. Germaine Brady and husband Jerry Kelley of Puerto Rico, four brothers, John Chambers and wife Sherry of Eldorado Springs, Gary Chambers and wife Mary Ann of the state of Kansas, Roger Chambers of Lamar, MO, and Larry Chambers and wife Estrella of Vandalia, IL, and two sisters, Janet (Mrs. Gerald) Jones of Eldorado Springs, and Melody (Mrs. Steve) Johnson of Independence, MO, four grandchildren, Laura, Jeffrey and Danielle Morris and Zachary Shoumake. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and cherished friends also survive. A Holy Rosary will be said the evening of visitation at 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.

Bobby L. Abbott of Farmington passed away on May 3, 2004, at Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center, at the age of 79 years. He was born on October 25, 1924, at Annapolis, the son of the late James Lacey and Lola Mae (Hunt) Abbott. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, James Lacey Abbott, Jr., Woodrow W. Abbott, Harold H. Abbott and Jack Abbott, and two sisters, Helen Merkley and Bonnie Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patsy Mae (Thomure) Abbott, two sons, Bobby Joe Abbott and wife Nancy of Kansas City, MO, and Randy Lynn Abbott and wife Brenda of Sarasota, FL, and five grandchildren, Eric Abbott and wife Meg of Sarasota, FL, Sara Abbott of Clearwater, FL, John Abbott of St. Petersburg, FL, Travis Smith and wife Diane of Bradenton, FL, and Rebecca Lockwood and husband Paul of Boston, MA. Numerous nieces, nephews and many cherished friends also survive.

He served his country proudly during World War II with the U. S. Army. He was a member of the AMVETS, VFW Post #5896, American Legion Post #416 and a member of the Knights of Pythias Home State Lodge.

Mr. Abbott worked for many years as the manager of Heck’s IGA in Farmington. He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington.
