Donald L Newland 71, Independence, MO passed away May 3, 2009.

Donald was born April 27, 1938 in Kansas City, MO. He retired from AlliedSignal in 1991 after 30+ years. Donald was a US Air Force Veteran. He was preceded in death by; son, Donald Newland; and daughter, Dawn Michelle Smith. Survivors include; wife, Jean Newland, of the home; son & daughter in law, David & Anita; son, George; daughter & son in law, Tracy & Larry; brother, Mike; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Friends may call 5-6 PM, Thurs, May 7, 2009 at Missouri Funeral Care, Raytown, MO. Memorial services will be held following at 6PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice

Earl McCarty

Earl McCarty, born in Mason City, Ill., on April 14, 1922, passed away May 6, 2009, in Branson enjoying the Moe Bandy Show. He lived his entire life in the Kansas City area and retired from General Motors Fairfax plant in 1977. He also belonged to the UAW Local 31. Earl serviced in the Navy during WWII where he was assigned to the engine room on the destroyer USS Huse. His travels included Nagasaki, Guam, Saipan, Casablanca, Pearl Harbor, and many more islands. His wife, Bertha Louise McCarty preceded him in death. His surviving children include Lester McCarty (Candy), Janet Moree (John), Jacqueline Hicks, Mark McCarty and Randy McCarty (Ramona); eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 11, with funeral service starting at 10:30 a.m. at Missouri Funeral Care, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Mo. There will also be a graveside service 1 p.m. Monday, at Freeman cemetery, Freeman, Mo.

Joe Edwards

Joe Charles Edwards, 92, of Raytown, passed away August 2, 2010. A visitation will be held 10 - 11am and funeral services at 11 am Thursday August 5th at Missouri Funeral Care 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to, City Union Mission, Kansas City Rescue Mission, Salvation Army or Harvesters.

Atha Maddix

Atha Victoria (Vicky) Maddix, 45, of Marshall, MO and formerly of Brunswick, MO died at her home on Sunday, August 1, 2010. She was born on March 17, 1965 at Columbia, MO the daughter of Mary Chapman. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1983. Vicky worked as a C.N.A. at the Rehabilitation Center at Marshall, MO.
She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church at Brunswick, MO. She is survived by one sister, Carlette Phillips of Marshall, MO; one brother, Ricky Maddix of Licking, MO; one grandson, Lorenz Moore, several half-brothers and half-sisters and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Vicky was preceded in death by her mother and one son, Zandon Maddix. Memorial services will be held at the First Missionary Baptist Church at Brunswick, MO Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be made to: Gibson Funeral Home, 207 West Broadway, Brunswick, Missouri 65236 for cremation arrangements.

Marjorie Evert Moore

Marjorie Evert Moore, 95, had her last prayer answered when she passed away August 4th 2010.

“Marge” as she was known to the great numbers of people she energetically served as co-owner of Evert’s restaurant was born March 1, 1915 to Edward and Ruth Runyon.

She was married to Elmer Evert July 14th 1936 and the continued to operate Evert’s until his death in September 1969.

Even in retirement, Marge enjoyed cooking and baking for scores of friends.

On July 30th 1972 she married William Moore and they ‘danced away their days’ until his death in March 1988.

Marge, is survived by her son Gary Evert and his wife Sherri of Kansas City, MO and 2 grandsons, Nathan Evert, Kansas City, MO and Bryan Evert, Overland Park, KS

She is remembered as one with boundless energy, a keen sense of esthetic and a giving heart.

A private memorial service will be held at a date to be determined.

The family requests recognitions of her memory be made to Preferred Hospice, Lexington, MO c/o Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Billy Bentley

Billy Jack Bentley, 74, of Brunswick, MO and a former Keytesville, MO resident died on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO. Funeral services will beheld at the Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick, MO, Friday, August 13, 2010 at
10:00 A.M. Reverend Ken Tounzen officiating. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Thursday, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Asbury cemetery at Keytesville, MO. Mr. Bentley was born on January 5, 1936 at Keytesville, MO the son of William and Louella Wright Bentley. He graduated from Keytesville High School in 1954. He was married to Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Littleton on September 21, 1956 at Moberly, MO. Libby survives him at the home. He was a retired Track Patrolman for the Norfolk & Southern Rail Road. He had also worked for the Wabash and Norfolk & Western Rail Roads. Earlier he operated the Bill and Bill’s Phillips 66 Station at Keytesville, MO and he had also been a Truck Driver for the Sommer’s Potato Chip Company at Salisbury, MO. He was a member of the Keytesville Baptist Church and had been attending the Brunswick Baptist Church. He is also survived by one son, Randy Bentley and his wife Becky of Keytesville, MO; one daughter, Connie Dickerson and her husband Brent of Brunswick, MO; two sisters, Wilma Weimer and Willis Leonard both of Keytesville, MO; four granddaughters, Holly Sorensen, Haley Linneman, Emily Elliott and Madison Dickerson and five great-grandsons, Corbin, Cade and Aiden Sorensen and Beau and Eligh Linneman. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Brent Sorensen, Matthew Linneman, Jason Elliott, Jimmy Westenkuehler, Clifford Littleton and Chuck Leonard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Grant Hendricks, Norman Bentley, LeRoy Smith and Jr, Bobby and Billy Littleton. Memorials may be made to: The Asbury cemetery and may be left at or mailed to, Gibson Funeral Home, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO 65236.

Arthur Junior Barker

Arthur Junior Barker, age 90, of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Hedrick Medical Center.

Arthur was born August 27, 1919 in Livingston County, Missouri, the son of Arthur and Maude (Corbin) Barker. He graduated from Norborne High School.

Arthur was married to Veva Lee Rose in June of 1941. She preceded him in death in 2000.

He married Virginia Lang on September 12, 2008 in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives at the home.

Arthur was a farmer in the Mandeville area. He was a member of the Mandeville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Wakanda Lodge # 52 AF & AM. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He used his skill as a carpenter woodworking and restoring antiques. Arthur was an honorable man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, Arthur is also survived by nieces and nephews, Ron (Okie) Rose, Trenton, Missouri; Pat (Ed) Bradshaw, Macon, Missouri; Stewart (Judy) Rose, Bogard, Missouri; Martha Kay (Norman) Burns, Braymer, Missouri; Bob (Beverly) Rose, Carrollton, Missouri; Jana (Glen) Burdge, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania; Linda (Ben) Fowler, Nashville, Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Dr. Melvin Faw; Nancy (Neal) Lecklider, Gary (Lisa) Faw, and David (Louisa) Faw, all of Evansville, Indiana; one step-son, Tim (Mary) Lang, Omaha, Nebraska.

His parents also preceded him in death.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with Pastor Bill Reese officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery, Bogard, Missouri.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Mandeville Methodist Church or the Livingston County Multi-purpose Center in memory of Arthur. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

George Edwin Hamblen

George Edwin Hamblen, age 78, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010 at his home.

George was born April 25, 1932 in Winthrop, Arkansas, the son of John R. and Ola Mae (Adkins) Hamblen. He attended school in Winthrop and in Bosworth, Missouri. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He married Rosa Lee Harman in 1950. She survives at the home.

George had worked at Con Agra and at the Marshall Habilitation Center. He was a Baptist.

George is also survived by two children, Gary Edwin Hamblen, Wichita, Kansas; Carolyn Louise Hamblen, Carrollton, Missouri; one sister, Dorothy Potter, Hale, Missouri; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His parents, one son, Dennis, and five brothers, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with Reverend Bert Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri, with Military Services provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Pence-Lovell-England Post #1773 of Carrollton.

The family suggests contributions be made to Ellis Fischel Cancer Research in memory of George. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Mary Bartels

Mary Lee Bartels, 63, of Triplett, MO died on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center at Marceline, MO. Memorial services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Brookfield, MO, located at Missouri Highway 36 & Highway FF, Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. Darrell Harris officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the Church. Cremation. Mary was born on December 20, 1946 at Chillicothe, MO the daughter of Ray and Sylvia (Frizell) Swagerty. She graduated from South West High School at Ludlow, MO in 1964. She was married to David Lee Bartels, Sr. on October 2, 1965 at St. Joseph, MO. David survives her at the home. Mary had been a home maker and had worked as a Clerk at Wal-Mart in Brookfield, MO. She was a member of the Brookfield Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She is also survived by her children, son David Bartels, Jr. of Overland Park, KS, daughter, Rachel Pandit of Georgetown, Grand Caymon British West Indies, and son James Aaron Bartels of Sarasota, FL; two sisters, Wanda Stottlemeyer of Chillicothe, MO and Sherry Handschin of Warner Robbins, GA; four brothers, Bob Swagerty of Havre MT, Dan Swagerty of Chillicothe, MO, Sam Swagerty of Flagstaff, AZ and Mike Swagerty of Buena Park, CA; and five grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harold Swagerty. Memorials may be made to: The National Breast Cancer Foundation. Cremation arrangements were by the Gibson Funeral Home at Brunswick, MO.

Mabel Brooke

Mabel Brooke, age 89, of Norborne, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer, Missouri.

Mabel was born September 27, 1921 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Ivy (Dye) Thompson. She attended Excelsior Spring's schools.

On January 2, 1940 she married Frank Henry Brooke in Hardin, Missouri. He preceded her in death.

Mabel was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norborne and the Homemaker Club.

Mabel is survived by three children, B. Elaine Miller and husband, David, Dawn, Missouri; Betty McDonald and husband, Danny, Long Point, Illinois; R. Ervin Brooke and wife, Twila, Hardin, Missouri; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Her parents and four brothers also preceded her in death.

The body will lie in state on Monday, December 6, 2010 from 1-5:00 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Norborne, Missouri, and on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until service time at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Fairhaven cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer, Missouri in memory of Mabel. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

John Woodman

John Woodman, 88, Independence, MO, passed away December 2, 2010. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m., Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Missouri Funeral Care, Raytown, MO. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Raytown, MO. John was born March 24, 1922 in Kansas City, MO. He was an Army Air Force, World War II Veteran. John retired from the Teamster Local #41. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #41, American Legion Post 596 Raytown, and a member of First Baptist Church of Raytown since 1935. John is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vera; sister; son-in-law, James Cary. Survivors include his daughters, Pamela Cary, Fair Grove, MO, Cynthia (Mike) Unruh, Independence, MO; son, Craig Woodman, Fair Grove, MO; sister, Evelyn DeHues, Raytown, MO; seven grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.

Rheaba Cox

Rheaba Eunice Cox, 93, passed away December 4, 2010. Rheaba was a resident of Raytown for 56 years before moving to Olathe in 2004. A visitation will be held 10-11 AM and a funeral service following at 11AM, Wednesday December 8th at Missouri Funeral Care 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO. Rheaba is survived by her daughters; Jeri Gore, Kathy McHenry and Gwynn Chambers, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Claire Barnaby

Claire Shirley Barnaby, 78, Raytown, MO passed away December 6, 2010 at her home in Raytown. She was born in Methuen, MA to Thomas and Emma Geary on August 17, 1932. Claire will be greatly missed by her loving children, William Barnaby and Linda Gifford; and everyone else who knew and loved her. Burial will take place on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Kansas City, MO.

Earl Whitt

Earl Marshall Whitt was gently lifted into the arms of Jesus on December 15, 2010. He was born July 11, 1914. He was the middle child of Paul and Lizzie Whitt of Gallatin, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James and Harold, and a granddaughter Mindi Whitt Bowen. He leaves behind his wife Sylvia of Whiteridge Care Center, his daughters Judi Jewell, Sandy Knight her husband Bill, and son Marshall "Sonny" Whitt and his wife Neila, all of Lee's Summit, Missouri. He is also survived by his grandchildren John, Jaie and Joyce, Kelly, Marshall "Skip", Ken and Dave, and eleven great grandchildren. Visitation services are scheduled for Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 9:00 a.m., with the funeral following at 10:00 a.m. at Missouri Funeral Care, 6113 Blue Ridge Boulevard. Graveside services will follow at Floral Hills, Gregory and Blue Ridge Boulevard. Memorial contributions should be directed to Odyssey Hospice, 800 E. 101st Terr., Ste. 150, Kansas City, MO 64131.

Anna Marie Hamblen

Anna Marie Hamblen, age 78, of Slater, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2011.

Born August 28, 1932 in Trier Reinlandfalz, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Matthiaes and Helene (Ulrich) Schrum. She attended schools in Germany.

On December 20, 1980 she married Frank Hamblen in Marshall, Missouri. He survives of the home.

Anna had lived in Saline County most of her life and had been employed with Cycle Enterprise in Marshall, Missouri. She was a member of the Salem Evangelical Church.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Reinholt Harkins and wife, Pamela, Gardner, Kansas; John Harkins, State of Georgia; and one daughter, Linda Irene Chandler, Kansas City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Tiffani April Lynn Harkins and Justin Lee Harkins.

Her parents, one brother, and four half-sisters preceded her in death.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with a graveside service following at Evergreen cemetery, DeWitt, Missouri. Tony Gallagher will be officiating.

The family suggests contributions be made to The Living Center, Evergreen cemetery or Salem Evangelical Church in memory of Anna. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Glen Harmon

Jack Harmon, 81, Raytown Mo., died on August 22, 2011. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at St. John Francis Regis Church, Kansas City, Mo., and followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. Graveside service to be held at the Leon cemetery, Leon, Iowa. Jack was born Dec. 18, 1929, near Sullivan in Moultrie County, Ill. He was the youngest of Dewey Frank and Elsie Belva Kirk Harmon, both of whom predeceased him. Jack earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bradley University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His successful career as an executive in direct sells allowed him to call many cities his home and was capped by his election to the board of Directors of the Direct Selling Association in Washington, D.C. Jack was married to 35 years to Alice Marie Akes Harmon, who passed away in 2009. He is survived by his brother, William K. Harmon and his brother's wife, Eleanor, and children and the grandchildren of Elaine and William Harmon. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society .

Harriet Amy Shouse

Harriett Shouse, 91, passed away August 22, 2011. Born near LaPlata, Mo. She was a former government employee during WWII and a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Temple. She leaves behind a brother, nephews, nieces and other relatives across the country. A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday Aug. 26, at Missouri Funeral Care, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown. Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Wilsontown cemetery, LaPlata.
