SHIRLEY ANN BILYEU

Shirley Ann Bilyeu, 64, Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Bilyeu, Independence; her parents, Claude and Erma Cooper, Independence; two daughters, Jackie Hack, Independence, and Tami Fullbright, Sugar Creek; one sister, Claudette Williamson, Kansas City; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services are 7 p.m. Monday at Worship Center, 2901 Missouri 291, Harrisonville, Mo. Cremation.

DOLLIE C. POTTER

Dollie C. Potter, 64, Odessa, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Potter was born Nov. 2, 1934. She was a homemaker and enjoyed making crafts. She was a Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrie Lou Potter.

Her survivors include her husband, Sidney Potter, Odessa; two sons, Rick Potter, Culleoka, Tenn., and Robert Potter of the home; a daughter, Terrie Taylor, Independence; a sister, June Hoy, Napoleon, Mo.; a brother, David West, Stockton, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

GAIL H. WILKERSON

Gail H. Wilkerson, 89, Kansas City, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Wilkerson was born Jan. 14, 1909, in Oak Grove and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a collector of Blue Willow china, and was a member of the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Wilkerson.

Her survivors include one sister, Kathryn Reed, and one brother, Charles Scott, both of Kansas City; and three nephews, Charles C. Reed and Kenneth R. Reed, both of Independence, and Marvin Reed, Lee's Summit.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

CHARLES E. "CHARLEY" CORNELL

Charles Ellis "Charley" Cornell, 67, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Mr. Cornell was born Feb. 14, 1931, in In-

dependence and was a lifelong area resident. Before his retirement, he owned and was president of the Cornell Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. in Independence. He was a former city councilman and a member of the City Planning Commission. He was an advisory director of the Sunshine Center, and a member of the Jaycees, St. Mark's Catholic Church and the Lakewood Golf Club, and a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 3430. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, and a graduate of William Chrisman High School.

His survivors include his wife, Lillian Cornell of the home; three daughters, Christine Winans, Cynthia Knoelke and Cathleen Jenkins; one son, Charles Cornell Jr.; four grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy King.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, 3736 Lee's Summit Road. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where a prayer services will be held at 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Sunshine Center, 607 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, Mo. 64050. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

BESSIE H. MULLEN

Bessie H. Mullen, 64, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at the Monterey Park Nursing Center.

Mrs. Mullen was born July 21, 1934, in Palestine, W.Va. She was a custodian for Blue Springs City Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Carl Mullen, and a daughter, Betty Yvonne Mullen.

Her survivors include two sons, Clarence David Mullen and Perry Mullen, both of Blue Springs; two daughters, Lucinda Bogart, Independence, and Bonita Hinsley, Lenexa, Kan.; a brother, Darrell George, West Virginia; four sisters, Eldean Copeland, Joann Allen, Bernice Geroge and Delphie George, all of West Virginia; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bethesda Baptist Church, Palestine. Burial will be in Bethesda cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

JULIUS "JOE" MIDDELSTADT JR.

Julius "Joe" Mittelstadt Jr., 52, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Middelstadt was born June 23, 1946, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. He was a member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Mittelstadt in 1995, a sister, Judith Hershberger in 1992, and a brother, John Mittelstadt in 1969.

His survivors include a son, William Mittelstadt, Raytown; his mother, Norma Mittelstadt of the home; two brothers, Gerald Mittelstadt, Blue Springs, and James Mittelstadt of the home; and a grandson, Ryan Mittelstadt.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the St. Mary's Indian Mission, Tohatchi, N.M.

WILLIS M. "JESSE" JAMES

Willis M. "Jesse" James, 61, Sibley, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. James was born May 26, 1937, in Wallace, N.C., and had lived in this area since 1957. He served in both the U.S. Army and Navy. He was a carpenter for Carson Construction for many years, and was a member of Carpenters Local Union 61. He was also a member of the Praise Tabernacle Church of God.

His survivors include his wife, Thelma James of the home; five children, Robert D. James, Turner, Kan., Mark A. James, Michael R. James and Dianna L. Lyman, all of Independence, and Ronnie L. James, Sibley; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and five brothers and sisters, Eloise Register, Dorothy Rivenrbark and Jesse Ray James, all of Wallace, D.L. James, Sumpter, S.C., and Mainor Sawyer, Roper, N.C.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

ORVILLE L. BARNETT JR.

Orville Leroy Barnett Jr., 58, Wellington, Mo., died Monday, May 31, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Barnett was born Nov. 22, 1940. He was a legal analyst for the Shook, Hardy & Bacon law firm, Kansas City. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Levasy, MenŐs Brotherhood of the church, Marriage Encounter group through the church, and the University of Missouri Alumni Association. He had been in the Army Reserves. His wife, Lois Barnett, died May 22, 1999.

His survivors include one son, James Barnett, Wellington; one daughter, Leanne Farrington, Independence; one brother, Harry Barnett, Carrollton, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery, south of Levasy. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Snow Funeral Home, Wellington. The family suggests contributions to the church or ChildrenŐs Mercy Hospital.

LILLIAN O. EDMISTON

Lillian O. Edmiston, 92, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Edmiston was born Sept. 4, 1906, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She was a charter member of the Berean Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan. Her husband, Eli Z. Edmiston, died in 1976.

Her survivors include a stepdaughter, Kittie Adee, Kansas City; five granddaughters, Patricia Stancil, Linda Springate, Carolyn Branch, Susan Gall and Peggy Chmelicek; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

SAMUEL F. DAWDY

Samuel F. Dawdy, 85, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Dawdy was born April 16, 1913, in Vincennes, Ind., and lived in Pennsylvania and Oklahoma before moving to Independence in 1967. He was with the Mercantile Stores Co. for 42 years and had managed stores in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Missouri, including The Jones Store Co. in Independence and Kansas City, retiring in 1978. He was active at St. Mark's Catholic Church and community organizations throughout his life, including Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus. He served as president of the Advisory Board of The Salvation Army. His wife, Mary C. Dawdy, died Dec. 10, 1998.

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam B. and Shila Dawdy, Overland Park, Kan.; and one granddaughter, Caitlin Dawdy.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Development Fund, 6400 Minnesota, St. Louis, Mo. 63111.

CAROLYN CRAWFORD

Carolyn Crawford, 53, Independence, died Saturday. Feb. 27, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Crawford was born March 14, 1945, in Shawnee, Okla., and had lived in Independence most of her life.

Her survivors include two daughters, Connie Crawford, Independence, and Carla Crawford, Arlington, Va.; her parents, William A. and Betty Pitcock, Russell, Kan.; and three brothers, John Pitcock, Russell, Art Pitcock, Salina, Kan., and Tom Pitcock, Cunningham, Kan.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

GLENNA A. ACKER

Glenna Ann Williams Acker, 65, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Acker was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Kansas City. She was a secretary for Dillard's and then became a medical secretary at Research Medical Center before she retired. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas, and a member of Blue Ridge United Methodist Church and the Blue Ridge Singles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Stevens Acker.

Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Harold Metzinger, Wichita, Kan.; a son, Brian Acker, Kansas City; and one grandson, Braden Metzinger, Wichita.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Blue Ridge Singles at the church or the Kansas City Hospice.

OLA F. TURNER

Ola F. Turner, 64, Blue Springs, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Turner ws born Sept. 21, 1934, in Stoney Point, Okla. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Assembly of God by faith and had attended the senior center at Vesper Hall.

Her survivors include a daughter, Teresa Faye Hurd, Liberty, Mo.; two sons, Kenneth D. Turner, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Steven R. Turner, Lexington, Mo.; two sisters, Debbie Carter, Blue Springs, and Donna Greene, Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Wendall Corley, Higginsville, Mo., and Willis "Bud" Corley, Elkton, Mo.; grandchildren, Kenna, Kenny, Maxey, Jessica, Steven II, Dustin, Paul, Krista, and Keith; and two great-grandchildren, Raven and Macey.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Washington.

GEORGIA M. MOFFETT

Georgia M. Moffett, 82, Lee's Summit, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Moffett was born Jan. 2, 1917, in Kansas City, Kan. She was a member of The Salvation Army Blue Valley Corps and a member and treasurer of the Ladies Home League. She was a secretary for the League of Mercy, co-founder and coordinator of the Forever Fifty Club, and a longtime volunteer for The Salvation Army, the Community Feeding Program and the Blue Valley Kiwanis Club. She was a 1997 recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award for the Central Territory of the United States. She was a member of ILEWU Local 274, and the Pioneer Club of Nelly Don & Co., where she was a seamstress for 36 years, and was a former den mother and pack leader for the Cub Scouts. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles W. Stroud in 1950, and Kenneth O. Moffett in 1992.

Her survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Charlene Stroud, Bakersfield, Calif., Jim and Shirley Stroud, Lee's Summit, and Kenneth and Mae Moffett, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbra and John Silvers, Odessa; two sisters, Billie Antry, Kansas City, and Hazel Conant, Glenview, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at The Blue Valley Salvation Army Church, 6618 E. Truman Road, Kansas City. Burial will be in the Pitts Chapel cemetery, Harrisonville, Mo. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Salvation Army Blue Valley Corps.
