BARBARA J. REISWIG

Barbara Jean Reiswig, 71, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Reiswig was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Detroit, Mich. She was a seamstress before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra, in 1983.

Her survivors include two daughters, Mary Varner, of the home, and Vicky Ludwig, Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Mary Roberts, Sierra Vista, Ariz., four grandchildren, Lora Parker, Ellen Reiswig, Michael and Matt Varner; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m., today, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oklahoma following cremation.

DONALD E. BARNETTT

Donald E. Barnett, 77, Appleton City, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in the Independence Regional Health Center.

Barnet had lived in Appleton City for about two years. Previously he was a chiropractor in Independence and Clay County until 1985. He also served a school bus driver for the Independence and Grandview School Districts.

Mr. Barnett was a member fo the First Baptist Church in Appleton City and the American Legion in Blue Springs. He was a World War II veteran of the 1st Infantry Division, the "Big Red One."

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin E. Barnett, in 1985.

He is survived by his daughter, Donalene M. Maynard, Orrick, Mo.; a sister, Violet Cole, Kansas City, Mo.; and two granddaughters.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Speaks Midtown Chapel, with cremation to follow.

The family suggests donations to the Salvation Army.

JON MICHAEL DAVIS

Jon Michael Davis, four months, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998.

He was born May 8, 1998 in Kansas City, Mo.

Surviving are his parents, Walter Craig and Julie Diane Howe Davis and his sister Emily, all of the home; paternal grandparents Walter J. Davis, Kathryn Davis and Marlena Davis; maternal grandparents Michael and Peggy Howe; maternal great-grandparents Mike and Amy Pritchett;paternal great-grandparents Arthur and Shirley Kurtz; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, in the Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to the donors' charity of choice.

BOBBIE WIKKE STEWART

Bobbie Wikke Stewart, 61, Independence, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Stewart was born March 30, 1937, in Tucson, Arizone. She lived in Independence most of her life. She was the women's editor of The Examiner from 1959 to 1961.

She was a past president and member of the Jackson County Historical Society and was editor of its newsletter. She was a member fo the Delta Sigma Upsilon sorority and the First Presbyterian Church of Independence.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh Stewart, of the home; three daughters, Heather Stewart, Holly Stewart-Joy, both of Independence, and Hayley Stewart Carter, Greenville S.C.; parents Ralph and Jewell Wikke, Lakeland, Fla.; a sister Bonnie W. Haldeman, Lakeland, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday before the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Stroke Foundation.

BRYCE A. EHMKE

Bryce A. Ehmke, 69, Willowbrook, Ill., died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Lagrange (Ill.) Hospital.

Mr. Ehmke was born July 12, 1929, in Independence.

His survivors include his wife, Marge Ehmke, and two children, Kris Ehmke, Columbus, Ohio, and Fred Ehmke, Chicago.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elliston Funeral Home, Hinsdale, Ill. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Gardens West cemetery, Elmhurst, Ill. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Hinsdale Hospital Foundation, 7 Salt Creek Lane, Suite 203, Hinsdale, Ill. 60521.

CAROLINA E. DUNNING

Carolina E. Dunning, 81, Lee's Summit, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at Lee's Summit Hospital.

Mrs. Dunning was born March 13, 1917, in Montrose, Mo. She was a member of the Lee's Summit Christian Church. She retired from Bendix in March 1982. She was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, Business and Professionals Women, the Navy Mothers, and the American Association of Retired People. She was a volunteer at the Lee's Summit Hospital and a Cub Scout den mother.

Her survivors include her husband of 60 years, Ray W. Dunning; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Janet Dunning, George and Meridith Dunning, Harold and Karolyn Dunning; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Evelyn Michel; four grandsons, Mike, Brad, Mark and Matt Dunning; four step-grandchildren, Beverly Lowe, Marcia Shami, Doug Stone and Pam Odeh; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Lee's Summit Christian Church, 800 N.E. Tudor Road. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery in Lee's Summit. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lee's Summit Christian Church.

ALVA E. GADBERRY

Alva E. Gadberry, 96, Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at the Blue Mills Rest Home.

Mr. Gadberry was born on July 12, 1902, in the Oklahoma

Territory, and had lived in the Independence area since 1945. He was a carpenter for local building companies and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as pastor in the Norton Heights RLDS church in Kansas City and at the Excelsior Springs RLDS church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Gadberry, in 1995.

His survivors include his son, George Harvey Gadberry, Sacremento, Calif.; two daughters, Lois Lundgren, Independence, and Bonnie Kroesen, Memphis, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel.

WILLIAM H. KAVANAUGH

William H. Kavanaugh, 66, Independence, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at the St. Joseph Health Center.

Mr. Kavanaugh was born June 7, 1932, in Kansas City, Kan., and lived most of his life in the Kansas City and Independence area. He worked as a civil engineer for the Missouri Highway Department, retiring in 1988. He then worked as a consultant to several contractors in the area. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the St. Mark's Catholic Church.

His survivors include his wife, Rose Mary Kavanaugh, of the home; two sons and their wives, William Thomas and Norma Kavanaugh, Fremont, Calif., and Brian John and Betty Kavanaugh, Independence; one daughter and her husband, Mary Jane and Michael Lamb, Olathe, Kan.; one brother, Robert E. Kavanaugh, Mission, Kan.; one sister, Therese Tuttle, Kansas City, Kan; five grandchildren, Christopher Kavanaugh, Seamus Kavanaugh, David Lamb, Renee Kavanaugh and Brigitte Kavanaugh.

A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. Mark's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Longview cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, at the church. A Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.

JOYCE I. RHOADS

Joyce Inez Rhoads, 86, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at St. Mary's Manor of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Rhoads was born April 8, 1912, in Newton, Kan., and had lived in Branson for more than 50 years, where she was the office manager for Continental Telephone Co. She had attended the American Business College in Wichita, Kan., and was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Branson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram R. Rhoads in 1966 and a son, Douglas Edgar Rhoads in 1933.

Her survivors include a son, Hiram Mikel Rhoads, Buffalo, N.Y.; two daughters, Carrol Rhoads Lauer, St. Louis, Mo., and Ann Rhoads Stock, Blue Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Following cremation, memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, Branson. Burial will follow in Ozark Memorial Park cemetery, Branson. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church.

SANDRA S. "SANDIE" BUTNER

Sandra Sue "Sandie" Kleuver Butner, 40, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at the University of St. Louis Hospital.

Mrs. Butner was born Feb. 17, 1958, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. She was an assembler with Calmar Inc. in Lee's Summit for 14 years.

Her survivors include her husband of 20 years, Victor Butner, a son, Joe Butner, and a daughter, Jessie Butner, all of Blue Springs; her parents, John and Wilma Kleuver, Kansas City; and a brother, John Kleuver, Seattle.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

MARY K. THIBAULT

Mary K. Thibault, 66, Belton, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Thibault was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a member of the Coronation of Our Lady in Grandview, and the Heart of America Tole Painters.

Her survivors include her husband, Ernest F. Thibault of the home; four daughters, Sister Mary Thibault, Independence, Helen McGown, Lenexa, Kan., and Michelle Langford and Denise Bickler, both of Littleton, Colo.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas Thibault, Grain Valley, and Paul and Marie Ngo, Belton; three brothers, Irving Fleming, Scottsdale, Ariz., Alex Fleming, Overland Park, Kan., and Stanley Fleming, Metarie, La.; a sister, Margaret Moken, Magnolia, N.J.; and 15 grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, 13000 Benington, Grandview. Burial will be at Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the church, where a rosary will be said. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Our Lady of the Angels School in Kansas City.

PEARL L. BEAL

Pearl L. Beal, 64, Kansas City, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Beal was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Stover, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City since 1981. She was self-employed and was the owner/operator of Pearl`s Cleaning Service. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Branstetter in 1992.

Her survivors include her husband, Sanford Beal Jr., Kansas City; three sons, Clyde Branstetter, Humansville, Mo., Eugene Branstetter, Stockton, Mo., and Michael Beal, Lexington, Mo.; two daughters, Fern Ricketts, Oak Grove, and Tammy Hartman, Kansas City; a brother, Calvin Branch, Stover; a sister, Nellie Roberts, Independence; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

RALPH O. BECK

Ralph Otto Beck, 80, Blue Summit, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Harrisonville, Mo.

Mr. Beck was born March 2, 1918. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Division 1, was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion, and a supporter of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Blue Summit Fire Department, having served for many years. He was preceded in death by a son, Otto Eugene Beck.

His survivors include his wife, Marriane Beck of the home; five sons, Leroy Joseph Beck and Leonard Alan Beck, both of Joplin, Mo., Nick Onen Beck, San Diego, Calif., Stanley Wayne Beck, Marshall, Mo., and David Lee Beck, Kansas City; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Sebbeto Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests no flowers, and donations would be appreciated.

ROBERT W. CARY

Robert W. "Bobby" Cary, 74, Blue Springs, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City.

Mr. Cary was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Carrollton, Mo., and had lived in this area since 1955. He was a barber and a member of the Assembly of God faith. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was captured in the battle of Cassino, Italy, in 1944 and was a POW for 16 months. General Patton`s 5th Army liberated him from his captors in 1945. He was discharged in 1946.

His survivors include his wife, Lorene Cary of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mickey D. and Kay Cary, Flower Mound, Texas, and Ricky R. and Lisa Cary, Blue Springs; a brother, Jeral H. Cary, Carrollton; five sisters, Aileen McDonald and Beverly Arnold, both of Independence, Velma Elliott, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Maxine Byers, Fargo, N.D., and Fanchion Bell, Carrollton; three stepchildren and their spouses, Brenda and Jerry Moorman, Pontotoc, Miss., Carol and Chris Younts, Kansas City, and Steven O`Neal, Independence; three grandsons, Michael, Christopher and Charles Cary; and nine stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions in his memory to the National MIA-POW Veterans organization.
