JAMES R. HOKE SR.

James R. Hoke Sr., 66, Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Hoke was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Tracy, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence area resident. He was a carpenter for many years, and was a member of Carpenters Local Union 61. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Baptist faith.

His survivors include his wife of 43 years, Virginia Hoke of the home; two children, James R. Hoke Jr., Independence, and Nancy Osburn, Mabank, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Sams, Platte City, Mo.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

ELSIE V. QUINN

Elsie Vivian Quinn, 83, Lee`s Summit, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at the Jefferson Health Center.

Mrs. Quinn was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Muskegon, Mich. She was a homemaker and a Catholic by faith.

Her survivors include her husband, Robert Leo Quinn, Lee`s Summit; one daughter, Karen McDonald, Blue Springs; one brother, Russell Anderson, White Hall, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in the Parklawn Crematory, Kansas City.

JEAN E. PRESTON STOLL

Jean Eleanor Preston Stoll, 84, Blue Springs, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Timberlake Care Center, Kansas City.

Mrs. Stoll was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Kansas City, and had lived in Blue Springs for the past 11 years. She was a homemaker and a volunteer at General Hospital and at the Independence Sanitarium from 1950 to 1987. She was a member of the Budd Park Christian Church. She had also been a member of the Card and Dinner Club since 1948. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene T. Preston in 1981.

Her survivors include her husband, Lawrence Stoll of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jim Schenck, Boonville, Mo.; a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Jan Preston, Shawnee, Kan.; a brother, LeRoy Thompson Jr., Kansas City; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

JAMES C. TIBBS

James C. Tibbs, 73, Independence, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Tibbs was born in Knoble, Ark.

His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Tibbs of the home; a daughter, Katherine Koon, Texarkana, Texas; two sons, Charles Tibbs and Daniel Tibbs, both of Grain Valley; a brother, Lyman; three sisters, Bonnie, Sarah and Opal; three grandsons; and three granddaughters.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

PATRICIA A. ETHRIDGE

Patricia Ann Ethridge, 58, Independence, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mrs. Ethridge was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a cashier at the Leeds Plant Cafeteria until its closing in 1988.

Her survivors include a son, Dale Ethridge, Houston, Texas; two daughters, Tina Wolfe and Lisa Larrimore, both of Independence; a brother, Warren Dale Stearns, Atlanta, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

RICHARD B. MANGELS

Richard B. Mangels, 47, Independence, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Mangels was born April 7, 1951, in St. Louis, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. He had worked as a maintenance man for Mid-Continent Public Library. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence. He was a 1969 graduate of Truman High School.

His survivors include his mother, Norma "Val" Mangels, and three brothers, Wayne K. Mangels, Mark R. Mangels and Roger Mangels, all of Independence.

Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

NITA L. SEARCY

Nita Lawane Searcy, 40, Independence, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at Truman Medical Center.

Ms. Searcy was born Nov. 5, 1957, and was a lifelong Independence resident.

Her survivors include a son, Greg R. Quinn Jr., Buckner; her parents, Wayne and Marilyn Searcy, Independence; two sisters, Randi Mashburn, Independence, and Ruth Molder, Lockwood, Mo.; two brothers, Bill Searcy, St. Louis, and Wayne E. Searcy, Independence; her maternal grandparents, Joe and Helen Boswell, Independence; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.

Jean Eleanor Preston Stoll, 84, Blue Springs, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Timberlake Care Center, Kansas City.

THEODORE "PETE" DELLEK

Theordore "Pete" Dellek, 71, Lexington, Mo., formerly of Blue Springs, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Dellek was born April 23, 1927, in Kansas City. He worked for General Motos Leeds Plant until his retirement in 1975. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Episcopal church, a life member of the VFW Post 5902, Gravois Mills, Mo., the Stanley American Legion Post 499, Blue Springs, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

His survivors include his wife, Bernice Dellek of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Riecke Dellek of the home, and Peter and Dana Dellek, Grain Valley; four grandchildren, Reicke Dellek Jr., Brian J. Dellek, Brent Dellek and Kristen Dellek; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at the Walker-Nadler Funral Home, Lexington. Burial was in Machpelah cemetery, Lexington.

MARCIA E. WILSON

Marcia E. Wilson, 86, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Wilson was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Independence, and was lifelong area resident. She was a secretary for many years for the city of Independence at the Power and Light building. She had also worked for Allis Chalmers. She was a member and first president of the Independence Junior Service League, and a member of the Independence Study Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma and the First Christian Church of Independence.

Her survivors include one sister, Brenda Nickson, and two nieces, Janice Simpich and Marcia Ann Davis, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one nephew, Bob Nickson, Connecticut.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

MARTHA L. BALL

Martha Louis Ball, 72, Independence, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at the Baptist Medical Center in Kansas City.

Mrs. Ball was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Willis, Kan. She was a graduate of Willis High School and St. Anthony Murdock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in hospitals in Seneca, Sabetha and Hiawatha, all of which are in Kansas. She moved to Independence in 1966.

She also worked as a private duty nurse and as a homemaker. She worked at the VA hospital in Kansas City until her retirement. She was involved in Eastern Star and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She sang with Sweet Adeline's for many years. She organized and was host for nursing school alumni reunions.

Her survivors include her husband of 50 years, Lynval E. Ball, of Independence; three daughters, Lynn and her husband, Charles Bain, Effingham, Kan., Deanna and her husband, Lynn Smith, Olathe, Kan., and Mary Lue Courtney, Independence; two sons, Lynvall Ball II, Independence, and Kerby and his wife, Julie Ball, Prairie Village, Kan.; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her brother, Owen Modeland, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, Kan. Burial will be in the Oneida cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

WILLIAM J. BLAND

William J. Bland, 76, Wheatland, Mo., died Thursday, March 4, 1999.

Mr. Bland was born May 24, 1922, in Chestnut, Ill. He worked at Lake City Army Ammunition plant before retiring in 1977. He worked as a private consultant for several years. He was a member of the Pomme De Terre United Methodist Church, Galmey VFW Post No. 9638, the Pomme de Terre Shrine Club, the Tin Lizzie Unit, Abou Ben Adhem Temple, Hogles Creek Blue Lodge and the York and Scottish Rite bodies of Masonry. He also was a member of the American Legion and an honorary warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal, with silver and bronze clusters.

His survivors include his wife, AnnaMae Bland; one daughter, Shari Miller; one son, William C. Bland, and two grandchildren, Todd and Jessica Miller, all of Independence; three sisters, Donna Janes and Julia Rose Ingram, both of Lincoln, Ill., and June Hale, McCleansboro, Ill.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m., Sunday, at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home Chapel in Wheatland. Masonic rites will be provided by the Hogles Creek Masonic Lodge No. 279. Burial will be in Dooly Bend cemetery. Galmey VFW Post No. 9638 will provide military rites. Friends may call from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

WILLIAM F. COLLINS III

William Floyd Collins III, 37, Independence, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Collins was born Aug. 19, 1961, in Independence. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked as a welder for Livers Bronze Company.

His survivors include his wife, Jenyfer; three daughters, Jenyfer Brianne, Savannah and Courtney; his father, William F. Collins Jr., Austin, Texas; his mother, Ora Lee Amos, Branson, Mo.; three brothers, Andy, David and Tom Collins; and one sister, Dana Ruth.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m., Monday, at the Park Lawn Chapel. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to an education fund for Mr. Collins' daughters; c/o Andy Collins, 622 E. Kansas, Independence, Mo., 64050.

ILIAS J. GIBSON

Ilias Jackson Gibson, infant son of Bruce and Belinda Gibson, Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

His survivors, in addition to his parents, include one brother, Lucas A. Gibson, and one sister, Mikalah D. Gibson, both of the home; his paternal grandfather, Arnold D. Gibson, Gilman City, Mo.; his paternal grandmother and step grandfather, Sandy S. and Larry Caldwell, Lincoln, Nebr.; his maternal grandmother, Lucia F. Brundage, Lee's Summit; his maternal great-grandmother, Norma E. Bishop, Bolivar, Mo.; and his aunt, "Kuzzy" Kristin Brundage, Lee's Summit.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Mo. Arrangements by Speaks Suburban Chapel. A memorial fund has been set up at the Commerce Bank in Lee's Summit, 1001 N.W. Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, Mo., 64081.
