F. ELIZABETH DOGLE

F. Elizabeth Dogle, 76, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Dogle was born July 28, 1922, in Bruce Mines, Ontario, Canada, and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Her husband, Joseph Dogle, died Sept. 28, 1988.

Her survivors include one son, William J. Dogle, Independence; two sisters, Anne Peeling and Edna White, both of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

MATTIE E. HARRIS

Mattie Elizabeth Harris, 73, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Research Medical Center.

Ms. Harris was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Independence. She received training as a nurse, and had worked for Wayne Minor Health Center, now known as the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Gregg Tabernacle AME Church for many years, where she was active with the Sunday school and Bible study. She later moved her membership to the Linwood Seventh Day Adventist Church. She received her early education in Independence.

Her survivors include one sister, Aurelia E. Johnson, Inglewood, Calif.; three brothers, Robert H. Harris, Henderson, Nev., Donzelle J. Harris, Palmdale, Calif., and Samuel A. Harris Sr., Independence; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were today at Woodlawn cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel, Kansas City.

DANIEL W. JACKSON

Daniel W. Jackson, 39, Lee's Summit, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Jackson was born Jan. 15, 1960, in Kansas City, and he had lived in this area his entire life.

His survivors include his father and stepmother, Samuel R. and Ruth P. Jackson, Lee's Summit; two brothers, Paul Kennedy Jackson, Edwardsville, Ill., and Paul L. Padgett, Minneapolis, Minn.; three sisters, Anita Herbers, Independence, Marilyn Cunningham, Lee's Summit, and Barbara Yawn, Rochester, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olivet cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.

ARTHUR E. CZESCHIN

Arthur Edward Czeschin, 79, Napoleon, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Czeschin was born April 20, 1919, in Wellington, Mo., and had lived in the Wellington/Napoleon area his entire life. He farmed row crops and had livestock. He was a 1937 graduate of the Lexington (Mo.) High School. He was a member, past trustee and treasurer of the Napoleon United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Wellington/Napoleon American Association of Retired Persons, and a former member of the Wellington/Napoleon Lions Club. He was also a former member of the Wellington/Napoleon school board and had been a board member of the Lafayette County SCS for 27 years.

His survivors include his wife, Lurrene M. Czeschin of the home; a son and a daughter-in-law, Earl A. and Cindy Czeschin, Napoleon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly S. and Arvel Kincaid, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Sandra F. and Marvin Stuenkel, Jefferson City, and Lavonna K. and Allen "Ike" Graham, Wellington; three sisters, Agnes Nieweg, Independence, Marie Turley, Tulsa, Okla., and Nadine Butler, Raytown; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Napoleon United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Napoleon Methodist cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the Napoleon UMC, Handicap Access Fund or to the Wellington/Napoleon Ambulance District.

THELMA "FAYE" WEBB

Thelma "Faye" Webb, 86, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at the Monterey Park Nursing Center.

Mrs. Webb was born April 27, 1912, in Bismarck, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 47 years. She was an electronics assembler for Bendix Corp. for 23 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Webb Sr., on Aug. 10, 1988.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Doris and Lloyd M. Webb Jr., Independence; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marion S. and Charles Sherrer, Lafayette, Calif., Jane E. and John Robertson, Independence, and Darlene F. and Joe McNeil, Kenner, La.; two brothers, Dr. Lloyd Chance and Dr. Oscar Chance, both of Kansas City; a sister, Lottie Danner, Independence; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Hospice, 155 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan. 66102.

ROBERT F. HILL SR.

Robert Forrest Hill Sr., 70, Independence, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Hill was born July 22, 1928, in Aurora, Ill., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He worked for the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a Marine Corps veteran, and was a major in the Civil Air Patrol. He was member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Vera Hill of the home; one son, Robert F. Hill Jr., Kansas City; two grandsons, Robert and Richard Hill; five brothers, David Beebe and Phillip Beebe, both of Independence, Myron Beebe, Delta Junction, Alaska, Steve Beebe, Anniston, Ala., and Carl Beebe, Kansas City; and four sisters, Dorothy Sanders, Kansas City, Lois Belt, Mountain Grove, Mo., Ruth Neel, Seattle, and Alice Green, Willard, Mo.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 tonight at the Speaks Midtown Chapel.

EDNA HOBBS

Edna Hobbs, 86, Independence, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mrs. Hobbs was born Feb. 21, 1912, in Grain Valley and was a lifelong Independence area resident. She was a member of the RLDS Stone Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Joe Hobbs on Jan. 14, 1982.

Her survivors include two sons, Wayne Hobbs, Independence, and Edward Hobbs, Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Beverly Boyd, Hamilton, Mo., and Jeanette Melton, Independence; a brother, Ret. Lt. Col. B.A. Snodgrass, Atlantic Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Cardiac Solutions Inc., 2800 N. 44th St., Suite 400, Phoenix, Ariz. 85008.

LUCY M. LAND

Lucy Marie Land, 82, Lamoni, Iowa, formerly of Independence, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at the Decatur County Hospital, Leon, Iowa.

Mrs. Land was born July 1, 1916, in Parnell, Mo., and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a registered nurse with the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital and later was an orthopedic and private duty nurse. She was a graduate of the Independence Sanitarium School of Nursing and was the second instructor in their nursing program. She also attended Columbia University in New York. She was a member of the Professional Nurses Association and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her husband, Helmut Land, died in 1993.

Her survivors include her children, Garland H. Land, Jefferson City, Jennifer Stabno, Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Dan Land, Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Nelson and Alma Nelson Jr., both of Guilford, Mo., and Norman Nelson, Lamoni; and two sisters, Mildred Smith, Lamoni, and Winnifred Negaard, Guilford.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Ridgewood RLDS Church, 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Professional Nurses Association.

WILLIAM M. "BILL" NICHOLS

William Muller "Bill" Nichols, 91, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Truman Medical Center-East.

Mr. Nichols was born June 25, 1907, in Cohoes, N.Y., and lived in Iowa and Detroit before moving to Independence in 1945. He worked for the Ford Motor Co. and the Bachman Electric Co. until opening his own business, the Nichols Electric Co. in 1951. He retired from electrical contracting in 1975. He attended Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and Lehigh University, where he studied electrical engineering. He was active in several community organizations and was an elder in the RLDS Stone Church congregation. After his retirement, he and his wife worked in Nicaragua with the American International Executive Service Corps, sharing construction technology with local contractors.

His survivors include his wife, Jeannette Burstrom Nichols of the home; two sons, Bill Nichols and Jim Nichols, both of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Memorial services were today at the Speaks Midtown Chapel.

ANNABELLE PRELL

Annabelle Prell, 90, Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Prell was born April 2, 1908, in Lin-coln, Neb., and moved to Independence in 1930. She worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. and taught violin and piano for 25 years, and was a member of the Independence Symphony. Her husband of almost 50 years, Frank Prell, died in 1978.

Her survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Bernie Durbin of the home; four grandchildren, Tom and Larry Waters, Michell Guyton and Allen Waters; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mound Grove cemetery with her grandchildren, Thomas and Joanna Waters, officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Cornerstone RLDS Church Building Fund.

MARGARET SATER

Margaret Sater, 77, Neosho Falls, Kan., died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Allen County Hospital, Iola, Kan.

Mrs. Sater was born May 22, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan., and lived in Kansas City until moving to Neosho Falls in 1979. She was a 1939 graduate of Wyandotte High School, and was a member of St. Martin`s Catholic Church and its Altar Society in Piqua, Kan., for a number of years. She was also a member of the Sunflower Quilt Club, E.H.U., Woodson County Election Board and TOPS of Kansas 880.

Her survivors include her husband, David E. Sater; one son, Randall Sater, Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Davalene "Davy" Wilbanks, Independence, Linda Lofton, Neosho Falls, and Jeanette Katzer, Osawatomie, Kan.; three brothers, Joseph Monslow and Pete Monslow, both of Kansas City, Kan., and David Monslow, Neosho Falls; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Martin`s cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7 tonight at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola.

LORNA E. SCHNAKENBERG

Lorna E. Schnakenberg, 88, Concordia, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Mo.

Her survivors include two daughters, Lora Mae Kempfe, Independence, and Vila Jean Deuschle, Sedalia, Mo.; one son, the Rev. Roger W. Schnakenberg, Cuba, Mo.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters; and one brother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Ernestville, Mo., where she was a member. Burial will be in St. Matthew Lutheran cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Berg Chapel, Concordia. The family suggests contributions to the church.

DANIEL B. BLANKENSHIP

Daniel B. Blankenship, 42, Independence, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, in Seoul, Korea.

Mr. Blankenship was born March 4, 1955, in Ardmore, Okla., and had been an Independence resident for four years. He was a certified public accountant for the U.S. Army Audit Agency in Seoul. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Independence First Church of the Nazarene.

His survivors include his wife, Linda Blankenship of the home; a son, Kevin Blankenship, Seoul; his mother, Carolyn Blankenship, Homestead, Fla.; a brother, Steve Blankenship, Homestead; two sisters, Debra Shepler, Denver, and Gail Smith, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and his maternal grandmother, Zaida Atkinson, Independence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Independence First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.

NICHOLAS E. "NICK" COOPER

Nicholas Ellis "Nick" Cooper, 56, Independence, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Cooper was born Aug. 1, 1941, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked for General Motors Leeds Plant for 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Red Bridge Baptist Church and UAW Local 93.

His survivors include his wife, Barbara Cooper of the home; a son, Nicky Dale Cooper, Raymore; a daughter, Karen Stigall, Kansas City; his mother, Marie Cooper, Kansas City; a brother, Tommy Dale Cooper, Kansas City; a sister, Debbie Hutsell, Independence; six grandchildren; Bambi, Noah and Adam Stigall, Michael Cornish, Nickale and Danyale Cooper.

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Red Bridge Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Cancer Action or to the Kansas City Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Park Lawn Funeral Home.

LAVERNE Z. BEDWELL HART

Laverne Z. Bedwell Hart, 85, Kansas City, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Hart was born in Ralston, Neb., and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She had worked as a file clerk for Commercial Union Insurance Co. for 10 years. She was a member of the King Daughters & Sons and was a member of St. Paul`s United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Milton Hart in 1964.

Her survivors include a son, John C. Hart, Creighton, Mo.; a daughter, Ida May Wilson, Kansas City; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Oak Hill cemetery, Butler, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Midtown Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or to St. Paul`s United Methodist Church.
