JOBE

Harold D. Jobe, 88,  Jefferson City, died Oct. 9, 1999, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

He was born Aug. 21, 1911, in Barnard, a son of Samuel and Eliza Byergo Jobe. He was married Feb. 26, 1959, in Caruthersville, to Frances E. Parnell, who survives at the home.

A 1929 graduate of Guilford High School, Guilford, he received a degree in education from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, in 1933. He attended the University of Chicago, where he did graduate work in public welfare administration.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for the Missouri Department of Social Services, Division of Family Services, from 1935 to 1977 when he retired as assistant chief at the Bureau of the Blind.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. He was active in the  Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department, coaching and managing Little League teams.

Other survivors include: one son, Steven H. Jobe,  Jefferson City; two daughters, Judith Ann Balian, San Diego, Calif., and Sharon Ford, Florence, Ind.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Wallace Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

SOOTER

Aleen Sooter, 76, Brumley, died Oct. 10, 1999, at Miller County Nursing Home, Tuscumbia.

She was born March 11, 1923, in Miller County, a daughter of Bert and Rhett Luttrell Strutton. She was married Aug. 17, 1960, in Kirksville, to Ercil Ernest Sooter, who died Nov. 4, 1979.

Survivors include: three sons, Norman DeGraffenreid and Frank DeGraffenreid, both of Eldon, and Harold DeGraffenreid, Tuscumbia; one daughter, Charlotte Carson, Kansas City; one brother, Dennis Strutton, Eldon; three sisters, Ruth Swortz and Bonnie McKee, both of the state of California, and Dorliss Strange, state of  Louisiana; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Charles Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Tuscumbia.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

SANNING

Otto P. Sanning, 97, Eldon, died Oct. 10, 1999, at Eldon Healthcare Center.

He was born Sept. 27, 1902, in Mary's Home, a son of William F. and Carolyn Mayens Sanning. He was married Sept. 4, 1926, in Mary's Home, to Prue Wright, who died Dec. 17, 1966. He was married Oct. 21, 1967, in Eldon to Veva Hicks Carrender, who died Oct. 3, 1997.

He was a farmer. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eldon.

Survivors include: one son, Ed Sanning, Rocky Mount; one stepson, Joseph E. Staley, Fort Worth, Texas ; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Clarence Wiederholt will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Snows Cemetery, Mary's Home.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Mary's Home.

MIMS

Margaret E. Mims, 69, California, Mo., died Oct. 9, 1999, at Moniteau Care Center, California.

Arrangements are incomplete at Weber and Sons Funeral Home, California.

WALKUP

MacKenzie Louise Walkup, a newborn, died Oct. 4, 1999, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

Arrangements are incomplete at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.

BASINGER

Frances E. Basinger, 90, California, died Oct. 10, 1999, at her home.

Arrangements are incomplete at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

WALL

The Rev. Evan D. Wall, 49,  Jefferson City, died Oct. 11, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at Freeman Mortuary.

PAYTON

John Ferguson Payton, 79, Fulton, died Oct. 10, 1999, at Columbia Regional Hospital.

He was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Fulton, a son of Walter W. and Sara Backer Payton. He was married March 16, 1940, in Palmyra, to Virginia Ruth Woodson, who survives at the home.

He attended Fulton public schools and the Baptist church. He retired in 1971 after more than 31 years as chief cook at Fulton State Hospital. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion in Fulton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Steven Dull will officiate. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Augusta Cemetery.

PLUMB

Thereshia Plumb, 69, Brumley, died Oct. 9, 1999, at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital, Osage Beach.

She was born July 17, 1930, in Caney, Okla., a daughter of Robert G. and Linniie Grant Ingram. She was married in October 1950 to Elbert Plumb, who died June 11, 1998.

She worked in the Wal-Mart deli department.

Survivors include: one son, Dawayne Plumb, Brumley; two daughters, Shana L. Herndon, Osage Beach, and Nora Jean Fellows, Byron, Calif.; one brother, Robert Ingram, Tioga, Texas ; two sisters, Barbara Miller, Aurora, Colo., and Wanda Tomaselli, Byron; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

REGISTER

Carol Jo Register, 62, Lincoln, died Oct. 11, 1999, at her home.

She was born March 5, 1937, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of George and Eleanor Fisher. Her mother, Eleanor Huddleston, survives in  Jefferson City. Her stepfather, Otto Huddleston, preceded her in death. She was married Feb. 11, 1956, in  Jefferson City, to Bill Register, who survives at the home.

She graduated from St. Peter's High School in  Jefferson City. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cole Camp. She was a supervisor at Interstate Studio, and was vice president of Laureate Beta Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Other survivors include: one son, Mark Register, Sedalia; three daughters, Jo Lynn Turley and Lisa Kelley, both of Sedalia, and Shelly Register,  Jefferson City; two brothers, Jack Huddleston Sr.,  Jefferson City, and George Fisher, Lancaster, Ohio; three sisters, Jewell Dean Wilbers,  Jefferson City, Delores Covert, Independence, and Judy Miller, Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sedalia.

Visitation will be from 5:30-9 p.m. today at Mclaughlin Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School Campaign for Quality.

TUCKER

Nan Tucker, 97,  Jefferson City, died Oct. 10, 1999, at  Jefferson City Manor Care Center.

She was born Feb. 15, 1902, in Montequma, Tenn., a daughter of James and Sammie Butler Hemby. She was married in 1920 to Crutcher Rucker, who preceded her in death. She was married May 21, 1932, in Fulton, to Melvin Leroy Tucker, who died in 1955.

She attended schools in Edith, Tenn., and was a seamstress. She owned and operated Capital City Upholstering Shop for 40 years until her retirement in 1972.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Wesley Service Group and the Amistosa Sunday School Class. She also taught children's Sunday school classes.

She was a life member of Capital Region Medical Center Auxiliary and volunteered for the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. She was active in the  Jefferson City bowling leagues for more than 40 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne Gordon,  Jefferson City, and one granddaughter.

One infant son died in 1925.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. E. Gene Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the Television Ministry of First United Methodist Church.

HASLAG

Herbert A. Haslag, 83, Loose Creek, died Oct. 12, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born June 7, 1916, in Loose Creek, a son of Martin and Theresa Backes Haslag. He was married June 7, 1938, in Westphalia, to Bridget M. Eichholz, who survives at the home.

He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek, and Holy Name Sodality.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Mary Ann Schollmeyer, Taos, Lillian B. Hentges, California, and Caroline H. Hentges,  Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

One son, Martin William Haslag, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Gregory Meystrik will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Church.
