ELSIE K. ROWE

Elsie K. Rowe, 90, Indepen-dence, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at the Rosewood Care Center.

Mrs. Rowe was born April 3, 1908, in Pittsburg, Mo., and moved to this area as a young girl. She was a member of the Independence Christian Union Church, a homemaker, an avid gardener and enjoyed quilting. She attended Antioch School and church when she was young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Edgar Rowe in 1953.

Her survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Retha (Rowe) and Glenn Mallott; one sister, Delta Tuttle; a sister-in-law, Ava Kincaid; three grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, George E. and Joan Lynn, Larry E. and Penny Lynn and Michael R. and Lynda Mallott; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

L'WANA J. RUSH

L'Wana Jo Rush, 62, Independence, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Rush was born March 19, 1936, in Cole Camp, Mo. She was a member of the East Independence Church of Christ. She retired from Lake City Ammunition Plant. She had previously worked as a secretary for 10 years for Paden, Welch, Martin and Albano Law Firm.

Her survivors include her husband, George Rush of the home; sons, Mitchell Rush and Keith Rush, a daughter, Christy Gardner, all of Independence; a sister, Brenda Crain, Jefferson City, Mo.; a brother, Fred Miles, Scribner, Mo.; four grandchildren, Amanda Rush, Miles Rush, Forrest Rush and Jordan Rush; five nieces and a nephew.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Weber and Sons Funeral Home, Russellville, Mo. Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the East Independence Church of Christ, 2020 Missouri 291, Independence; and may also call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Weber and Sons Funeral home, Russellville. The family suggests contributions to the Great Beginnings Preschool, in care of the East Independence Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons, Independence.

NELLIE J. MUNKERS

Nellie J. Munkers, 86, Kansas City, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Liberty Hospital.

Mrs. Munkers was born April 25, 1912, in Richmond, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City since 1942. She was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, T. Otto Munkers on April 21, 1979, one daughter, Virginia Frances, and one granddaughter, Sara Jane.

Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Loleda and Harry Keller Jr., Independence, and Phyllis and William D. Fultz, Kearney, Mo.; one sister, Eula Mae Outersky, Richmond; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 tonight at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Richmond Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

BETTY McCARTY

Betty McCarty, of Indepen-dence, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Kansas City.

Mrs. McCarty was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Buchanan, Mich., where she lived until 1974. She attended Graceland College in the early 1940s. She was a lifelong member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in which she was active in children's and youth work, until health impaired her. She then dedicated her energies to assisting her husband, an ordained minister, in their church work.

Her survivors include her husband, Leo McCarty of the home; one son, Douglas McCarty, Kansas City; and one sister, Wilma Gallway, Niles, Mich.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at 15000 E. 35th St.

DOROTHY M. SIMPSON

Dorothy M. Simpson, 81, Blue Springs, formerly of Sibley, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Simpson was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Sibley. She retired from the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant after 31 years of service. She was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church, and started in Lady Orion Shrine of North America in 1965 until 1970 when Missouri got a court. She advanced to high priestess of Tarrara Court from April 1972 to April 1973. She was the carrier of the Missouri flag in all of the parades. Her husband, Delbert Simpson, died in 1998.

Her survivors include two stepdaughters, Linda Harrell, Buckner, and Diane Nelson, Independence; two brothers, Joe E. Davis and Robert E. Davis, both of Sibley; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Buckner cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Ladies Oriental Shrine service at 10:45 a.m. The family suggests contributions to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.

DENNIS E. WORLEY

Dennis E. Worley, 51, Sugar Creek, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Mr. Worley was born Jan. 22, 1947, in Mexico, Mo., and had lived in Sugar Creek most of his life. He was an auto and diesel mechanic, then later became a computer technician for Wamego Sales. He was a member of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church, where he was a lay leader and a trustee. He was in the Air Force for eight years.

His survivors include his parents, Homer and Evelyn Worley, Independence; his wife, Ida B. Worley, Sugar Creek; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jason E. Worley, Sugar Creek, and Bruce W. and Stacy Worley, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise M. and Matthew Boyce, Lubbock, Texas; and four sisters, Sandra Childers, Cheryl Gondran and Connie Williams, all of Independence, and Karen La Martina, Tucson, Ariz.

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church.

HOWARD W. BOWLES

Howard Wayne Bowles, 73, Odessa, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1999, at the Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington.

Mr. Bowles was born May 4, 1925, in Norborne, Mo., and had lived in the Odessa area since the late 1960s or early 1970s. He had worked for the Odessa Laundromat from 1972 to 1976 and Vendo Corp., Kansas City, from 1943-1973. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the European Medal. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Odessa, where he was adult Sunday school director and was past financial secretary. He was a graduate of Rockingham Central High School, Hardin, Mo. He was a life member of VFW Post 5675 and a former member of International Brotherhood of Steel Workers, Kansas City local.

His survivors include his wife, Jaunita M. Bowles of the home; one son, DeWayne D. Bowles, Hiram, Ga.; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Linda and Mike Redden, Odessa; two sisters, Doris Wheeler, Gladstone, Mo., and Frances Dyer, Kansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Odessa. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Society.

JAMES "JIM" K. ROYETON

James "Jim" K. Royeton, 75, Odessa, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City.

Mr. Royeton was born May 11, 1923, in Largo, Fla., and had lived in Odessa since 1994. He had previously lived in Stover, Mo., and Great Falls, Mont. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1966 after 20 years. He had also worked at Boeing Aircraft, Great Falls, Mont., from 1966 to 1971, and Fasco Industries, from 1976 to 1986. He was a member of the Stover (Mo.) VFW and the DAV, Kansas City.

His survivors include his wife, Judy Royeton of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, James K. and Patricia Royeton, Mayview, Mo., and John K. and Mary Royeton; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Jeff Cooper, Stover; two sisters, Mildred Goodfellow, Alturas, Calif., and Eloise Royeton, Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services were today at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial was in the Countryside cemetery, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the Odessa VFW Post 5675 or to the American Heart Association.

ONA L. ANDREWS

Ona L. Andrews, 90, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Andrews was born in Carbon, Texas, and lived in Santa Rosa, Calif., before moving to Independence 134 years ago. She was a member of the Pleasant Heights RLDS congregation, and most recently attended The Groves congregation. She was a supporter of her husband, Alma C. Andrews, while he was a church appointee in England, Washington, Nebraska and several other places. He died in 1986.

Her survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Andrews Peck, and Roy G. Peck, Independence; three grandchildren, Stephen Peck, Debra Trefz and Lisa Peck; and seven great-grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, Rian, Bradley, Scott, Aren and Sarah.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund.

JOSEPH S. COOK

Joseph Stanley Cook, 65, Lincoln, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Cook was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Phillipsburg, Mo., grew up in Independence, and lived in Des Plains, Ill., before moving to Lincoln in 1987. He was a graduate of William Chrisman High School, received a two-year degree from Graceland College in Kansas, a bachelor`s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and his master`s degree in metalurgy from the University of Michigan. He was a chemical researcher for the Borg-Warner Co. in Des Plains for 27 years. He was a member of the Restoration Group in Chillhowee, Mo., where he taught elementary grades at a private school. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Launa in 1995.

His survivors include his wife, Ruth Cook of the home; two sons, Robert Thomas Cook, Chicago, and Joseph Stanley Cook, Houston; a foster son, Wallace Homeyer, Chicago; five stepsons, Jerry Andes, Independence, David Andes, Deepwater, Mo., Darel Andes, Lincoln, Ron Andes, San Francisco, and Brian Andes, Chicago; two stepdaughters, Linda Forsyth, North Kansas City, and Cheryl Chappell, Chillhowee; one brother, George R. Cook, Lincoln; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were today at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial was in Lincoln, Mo. cemetery.

OPAL D. HUTCHINGS

Opal Dean Hutchings, 78, Independence, died Jan. 12, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Hutchings was born Feb. 21, 1920, in Buckner, and was a lifelong Jackson County resident. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hutchings on April 14, 1990.

Her survivors include a son, John Evan Huchings, Olathe, Kan.; Jeannine Hutchings, Kansas City; a sister, Norma Jean Stevens, Wentzville, Mo.; and a granddaughter, Gabrielle Weeks, Los Angeles.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

WILLIAM "BILL" RAINES

William "Bill" Raines, 75, Odessa, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the Veteran Administration Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mr. Raines was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Kansas City. He was employed by Cobb Truck Lines, Odessa, from 1960 to 1972; Chief Freight Lines, Kansas City, from 1972 to 1980 and Johnson County, Mo., Road District from 1980 until retiring in 1993. He was an Army veteran. He was a former member of the Teamsters, Kansas City. He was a past president, treasurer and member of the West Central CB Club. He was a 1945 graduate of Raytown High School.

His survivors include his wife, Eleanor P. Raines of the home; a son, James Cannady, Mayview, Mo., six daughters and five sons-in-law, Twyla and Jim Schieber, Mayview; Betsy and Jacobia Payne, Odessa; Roxanne and Tom Stockdall, Warrensburg, Mo.; Janie Owens, Audrey and Rex Nelson, and Barbara and Mike Pyles, all of Odessa; a brother, Keith Raines, Centerview; 29 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

DORIS N. CLEMENS

Doris Nadine Clemens, 86, Lee`s Summit, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Lee`s Summit Hospital.

Mrs. Clemens was born in Tuscumbia, Mo., and had lived in the Eldon, Mo., and Tuscumbia area before moving to this area in 1953. In Miller County, Mo., she had been a teacher and principal in the primary and secondary school system, and had taught all eight grades in a one room school house. After moving to this area, she was an advertising manager for Macy`s department store in Kansas City, and then became the production manager for Valentine` Radford Advertising Agency in Kansas City. She attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg. She was an active supporter of the National World War II Memorial, and was a member of Longview Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta Janet Clemens.

Her survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Rebecca Clemens, Kearney, Mo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Harold Vaughan, Independence; one brother, Lloyd A. Wright, and one sister, Dorothy Nichols, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Cynthia, Ramona and Russell; and nine great-grandchildren, Holly, Ryan, Tabitha, Gretchen, Justin, Hillary, Brittany, Sean and Sara.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside inurnment will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tuscumbia cemetery.

JIMMIE C. DeLUCA

Jimmie Chris DeLuca, 53, Sugar Creek, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. DeLuca was born June 4, 1945, in Kansas City. He worked for Kansas City Power and Light for 30 years as central maintenance foreman. He was a member of St. Cyril`s Catholic Church, an Eagle Scout, Third Degree Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

His survivors include his wife, Lana J. DeLuca of the home; two sons, Chris DeLuca and Brian DeLuca, and one daughter, Kim Herrman, all of Independence; his parents, Vincent and Gladys DeLuca, Sugar Creek; one brother, Vincent DeLuca II, Kansas; one sister, Mary Gamblin, Sugar Creek; and three grandchildren, Anna DeLuca, and Cassie and Jacob Herrman.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 7:45 p.m.
