HATTIE V. THOMPSON

Hattie V. Thompson, 91, Grain Valley, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Thompson was boran Dec. 28, 1906, in DeKalb County, Mo., and had lived in the Grain Valley area for the past 60 years. She was a restaurant cook until her retirement in 1968. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grain Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy B. Thompson in 1955.

Her survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Frank Thompson, Grain Valley, Paul and Shirley Thompson, Grain Valley, Ken and Ginger Thompson, Edmond, Okla., and Wilbert and Dorothy Thompson, Harrisonville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Interment will be in Grain Valley cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

MABEL K. CARTMELL

Mabel K. Cartmell, 97, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Cartmell.

Her survivors include her daughter, Marietta, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Charter Funerals/Blue Ridge Chapel, 5000 Blue Ridge Cutoff, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice, 1625 West 92nd Street, Kansas City, Mo. 64114.

AGNES C. CUPP

Agnes C. Cupp, 94, Kansas City, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at her daughter's home.

Mrs. Cupp is survived by two daughters, Nadine Collins and Mary Keadle; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Sheil Independence Avenue funeral home, where rosary will be at 6 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the church.

WAYNE L. JAMESON

Wayne Leroy Jameson, 71, Lake Tapawingo, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Jameson was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been employed as maintenance supervisor for the City of Independence Power and Light for 20 years, retiring in 1987. He was active as a cub master and coached YMCA flag football and basketball. He was on the Board of Directors of the Public Utilities. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

His survivors include his wife, Marilyn Jo of the home; six sons, Ed Jameson and Timothy Jameson, both of St. Paul, Minn., Danny Jameson, Stillwater, Minn., Karl Jameson and Joe Jameson, both of Minneapolis, Minn., and Kevin Jameson, Lake Tapawingo; two brothers, John Jameson, Independence, and Dr. Robert Jameson, San Diego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces; and many other relatives.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the RLDS Stone Church. Burial will be in the Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel.

DONALD H. NUSSBAUM

Donald H. Nussbaum, 80, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Regency Care Center.

Mr. Nussbaum was born in Verdon, Neb. He had been a milk bottler for 15 years for Fairmount Dairies, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Mount Calvary United Methodist Church.

His survivors include his wife, Arlene D. Nussbaum of the home; two sons, Jerry D. Nussbaum, Oak Grove, and William J. Nussbaum, Buckner; a sister, Margaret Gerlt, Falls City, Neb.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary United Methodist Church, 700 Blue Ridge Boulevard. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Mount Calvary United Methodist Nursery School Building Fund.

JOHN T. SCOTT

John T. Scott, 66, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Scott was born July 16, 1932, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 76, Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine and Provost. He belonged to Eagles Club 385. He was retired from Amoco Oil. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Scott in 1994.

His survivors include a son, J. Thomas "Tom" Scott Jr., Liberty, Mo.; two daughters, Denise Coffman and Deanna Scott, three sisters, Betty Bollin, Wilma Peffer and Sandra Mullendore, and a brother, Clarence "Sparky" Scott, all of Independence; and four grandchildren, Jason and Keri Coffman, Nathan and Ashlea Scott.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where Masonic services will be at 8 p.m.

FLOSSIE SEEVERS

Flossie Seevers, 97, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Hidden Lake Care Center, Independence.

Mrs. Seevers was born Jan. 2, 1901, in Independence, and she was a lifelong resident of Independence. She was a homemaker. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence since 1908. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Seevers,

and a son, Chester Caswell.

Her survivors include a nephew, Richard Alan Richey, Kansas City.

Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

CLIFFORD P. SMITH

Clifford P. Smith, 79, Raytown, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. He was a master sergeant, serving in World War II and during the Korean War. He retired in 1981 from Southwestern Bell after 35 years. He was a 50-year member of McDonald Masonic Lodge 324 and the RLDS church.

His survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, Albert G. and Charlene Smith of Blue Springs, and Harry E. "Bud" and Caroline Smith, Lenexa, Kan.; two granddaughters, Cynthia Leitich Smith and Stacy Cohen; a grandson, David Gillespie; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Brooking cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

NANCY B. STEVENS

Nancy Beall Chiles Stevens, 54, Centerview, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at The University of Kansas Medical Center.

Mrs. Stevens was born July 31, 1944, in Independence, and had lived in Centerview since 1973. She was a 1962 graduate of William Chrisman High School and had attended the University of Arizona and Longview Community College. She was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church. She raised champion Rottweilers. Her interests included oil and water color painting, gardening and camping.

Her survivors include her husband, William "Bill" E. Stevens; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Michelle and Jim Schmitt, Jacksonville, Ark.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William E. Stevens II and Kelly, Lawrence, Kan., and Robert Stevens of the home, and friend, Valerie Feldman also of the home; a brother, Frank P. Chiles; three sisters, Joanne C. Eakin, Patricia S. Taylor and Deborah L. Riley; a granddaughter, Amber Schmitt; and a goddaughter, Kristen.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Tabor Methodist Church, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the Nancy B. Stevens Memorial Fund or to Mount Tabor Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph Jones Funeral Home, Odessa.

CLAUDE O. BARKER

Claude Oren Barker, 91, Lee's Summit, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee's Summit.

Mr. Barker was born March 31, 1907, in Warrensburg, Mo., and lived in Warrensburg, Washougal, Wash., and in Butler, Mo., before moving to Lee's Summit in 1979. He retired from Allis-Chalmers in Independence in 1972. He had owned a farm implement and welding shop in Butler until 1962, and worked in the shipyards during World War II. He attended business school in Sedalia, Mo., was active in the United Methodist Church, was a volunteer at the care center, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. His first wife, Ella Maslen Barker, died in 1989, and his second wife, Rose Ann Nivens Barker, died in July 1998.

His survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judi and Guy Barker, Blue Springs; a brother, William P. Barker, Warrensburg; three sisters, Ruth Stephens, Lee's Summit, Hazel Davison, Washington, Kan., and Dorothy Miller, Corvallis, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsey and Grant Barker.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lee's Summit United Methodist Church. Cremation, with graveside services to follow at 1 p.m. in Sunset Hill Cemerery, Warrensburg. The family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler.

JOHN W. PARMERLEE

John William Parmerlee, 8, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998.

John William was born March 20, 1990, in Merriam, Kan. He was a student in the third grade at Cordell-Mason Elementary School. He enjoyed Puma soccer, Buccaneer football team, Lake Lotawana baseball, swimming, YMCA basketball, KC Junior Blades ice hockey and Cub Scouts. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.

His survivors include his father, John Parmerlee Jr., Blue Springs; his mother, Hilary Parmerlee of the home, a brother, Benjamin S. Parmerlee, three sisters, Bethany A. Parmerlee, Jessica M. Parmerlee and Joanie L. Parmerlee, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Myrtle and John Parmerlee Sr., Kansas City; maternal grandparents, William and Joan Valentine, Sewell, N.J.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the John. W. Parmerlee Scholarship Fund.

LILLIE E. TABER

Lillie E. Taber, 92, Lee's Summit, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at the John Knox Village Care Center, Lee's Summit.

Mrs. Taber was born Oct. 25, 1905, in Sayre, Okla., and lived in the Independence area for 72 years before moving to Lee's Summit 11 years ago. She was a homemaker, a member of Mount Washington Order of Eastern Star 423, and was a Methodist by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Taber Sr.

Her survivors include a son, Maynard C. Taber Jr., Independence; a brother, Rudi Schwanders, Butler, Mo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

RENA CRISP

Rena Crisp, 92, Eldon, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, in the Eldon Health Care Center.

Mrs. Crisp was born Nov. 26, 1905, near Etterville, Mo. She was a teacher and instructor of music and worked for the Air Force during World War II. She was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Eldon. Her husband, William Crisp, died in 1977.

Her survivors include a brother, Wesley Harbison, Eldon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services were Monday at Mount Pleasant (Mo.) cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Capper's Foundation for Crippled Children, 3500 S.W. 10th St., Topeka, Kan. 66604. Arrangements were under the direction of the Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

BESSIE M. BANNER

Bessie M. Banner, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital in Kansas City.

Mrs. Banner was born March 15, 1926 in Camdenton, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist church.

Her survivors include her husband, Gerald R. Banner, of the home; two sons, Jerry W. Banner, Winter Park, Fla., and Guy Banner, Osage Beach, Mo.; two daughters, Beverly Houx, Blue Springs, and Linda Sturges, Independence; two brothers, Lewis Capps and Marvin Capps, both of Camdenton, Mo.; three sisters, Alveritta Leap, Camdenton, Mo., Martha Watkins, Canton, Ill., and Betty Bradshaw, Mankato, Kan.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home in Blue Springs. Burial was in Blue Springs cemetery.

RICHARD `DIGGER` DIGBY

Richard "Digger" Digby, 79, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Digby was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Dundas, Ontario, Canada, and lived most of his life in the Blue Springs area. He was a building contractor and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mimi Digby, in 1985.

His survivors include one daughter, Vicki Digby, Blue Springs; one grandson, Bill Mundy; and one sister, Grace Melchert, Archie, Mo.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery.
