MARGARET E. CHRISTOPHER

Margaret E. Christopher, 88, Independence, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Christopher was born July 15, 1909, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and lived in this area and in Riverside, Calif., before returning to this area in 1929. She moved to The Fountains at Greenbrier in 1991. She was a bookkeeper for the Hudson & Essex Motor Co. in California and in the Kansas City area for 15 years. She worked in the sales department of the Gernes Manufacturing Co., manufacturer of Gay Gibson dresses, from 1946 until 1957. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. Her husband, Herschell Christopher, died in 1987.

She is survived by one niece, Millie Lou Wilson of Costa Mesa, Calif.

Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home.

ANNABELLE COOK

Annabelle Cook, 82, Leesville, La., died Monday, July 13, 1998, in Sunshine Valley.

Mrs. Cook was born March 31, 1916, in Jasper, Ark., and lived in Sunshine Valley and St. Helens, Ore., before moving to Leesville. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Otto Leslie Cook, died in 1983.

Her survivors include five children, James Cook, Leesville, Loretta Reynolds, Moline, Ill., Eileen Payne, Oak Grove, Richard Cook, Okmulgee, Okla., and Arthur Cook, Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Florence Crowley, Gresham, Ore.; one brother, George Peake, Las Vegas; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

LILLIAN E. POWELL

Lillian Elizabeth Powell, 76, Independence, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.

Mrs. Powell was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Eros, La., and lived in Louisiana until moving to Independence in 1971. She was employed by the First National Bank of Independence and Noland Road Bank. She was a member of the RLDS Stone Church congregation, and served as a Temple tour guide until 1995. Her husband, Gordon Powell, died in 1970.

Her survivors include one brother, Calvin Carpenter, Santa Ana, Calif.; and two nieces.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. July 25 at the Rosewood Health Center Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association (Keith Worthington Chapter) or the Kansas City Hospice Chapter.

BRYAN E. RAMPY

Air Force A1C Bryan E. Rampy, 21, San Antonio, Texas, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, in San Antonio.

Mr. Rampy was born June 23, 1977, in San Antonio. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan.

His survivors include his parents, Erwin E. and Nora H. Rampy, San Antonio; one sister, Michelle M. Rampy; maternal grandmother, Petra Granados, San Antonio; paternal grandmother, Shirley O`Dell, and paternal great-grandmother, Eva Ellingsworth, both of Independence; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Helena`s Catholic Church, San Antonio. Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National cemetery, San Antonio. Friends may call beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

DONALD G. SMITH

Donald G. Smith, 64, Independence, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 30, 1933, in St. Joseph, Mo., and lived in St. Joseph and Wichita, Kan., before moving to Independence more than 30 years ago. He worked for Western Lithograph in Wichita from 1957 to 1964; Yearbook House in Kansas City from 1964 to 1978; and for Universal Publishing in Kansas City from 1978 to 1980. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Smith in 1968.

His survivors include his wife, Betty M. Smith, Independence; two sons, Gary G. Smith, Bellevue, Neb., and Larry D. Smith, St. Joseph; one stepson, Robert K. Kennedy, Independence; two daughters, Linda D. Snodderly, St. Joseph, and Janice M. Funchess, Oceanside, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth R. Newcomer, Belton, Mo.; three sisters, Helen Palmer, Hawthorne, Nev., Frances Ashworth, St. Joseph, and Norma Yount, Bethel, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

JAMES A. VAN WORMER

James Albert Van Wormer, 56, Independence, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Kansas University Medical Center.

Mr. Van Wormer was born in Kansas City. He was president of University Diagnostics Systems. He previously worked for the University Hospital as a technical lab supervisor for 20 years. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 228 and was an honorary warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was also a member of the Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church. His wife, Doris E. Van Wormer, died in 1996.

His survivors include one son, Jim L. Van Wormer, Lee`s Summit; one daughter, Denise Leabo, and his parents, Albert A. and Margaret M. Van Wormer, all of Independence; one brother, Don L. Van Wormer, Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Donna M. Williams, Independence; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 9 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City; cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

LAWRENCE "LARRY" R. THOMAS

Lawrence "Larry" Ray Thomas, 69, Wheatland, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Thomas had retired from the Independence Fire Department and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He had moved to the Wheatland community from Independence approximately 11 years ago.

His survivors include his wife, Julia Marie Thomas of the home; a son, Lawrence Mark Thomas, Hawaii; three stepsons, Larry Cecil Green and George Wayne Green, both of Elkton, and Chris Edward Green, Michigan; a stepdaughter, Kathy Marie Harris, Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Gardner cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home, Wheatland, Mo.

JUDITH K. WEYEMETH

Judith K. Weyemeth, 53, Blue Springs, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Truman Medical Center East.

Mrs. Weyemeth was born May 23, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wis. She was an insurance agent for All American Insurance company. She attended Trinity Ministries and Lee's Summit Bible Church.

Her survivors include a son, Tim Brown, Kansas City; a daughter, Beth Frazier, Blue Springs; and a grandchild, Sean Frazier.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Webb-Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemtery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

GARY A. SCOTT

Gary A. Scott, 43, Odessa, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Mr. Scott was born Feb. 25, 1955, in Odessa and was a lifelong resident. He had worked for the Norfolk Southern Railway, North Kansas City, for 23 years. He was a union member of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees AFL & CIO Local 662 and the Missouri State Legislative Director of BMWE Union. He was a 1973 graduate of Odessa High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University from 1973 to 1974. He was a member of the Odessa Booster Club. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Odessa; Odessa Little League Football, coach of the Blue Devils for several years with his father. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Odessa.

His survivors include his wife, Janice M. Scott of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry R. and Kathy Stebbins, Odessa; a daughter, Rhonda M. Bowman, Odessa; a brother, David Scott, Seabrook, Texas; four grandsons and one granddaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Odessa Ambulance Fund or the American Heart Association.

ELEANOR A. STOWELL

Eleanor Arlene Gammon Stowell, 62, Lake Tarsney, Oak Grove, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Stowell was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Travers City, Mich., and had lived in the Odessa area since 1982. She was a graduate of the Traverse City, Michigan, High School. She had worked for Acutek Manufacturing, Odessa, from 1988 to 1995. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Odessa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.W. "Bill" Gammon on Oct. 31, 1991.

Her survivors include her husband, Seith S. Stowell Sr., of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brian Humphrey; two stepsons, Seth S. Stowell Jr., Fort Smith, Ark., and Arthur Stowell, Springfield, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Kathy Stowell, Waukegon, Ill.; two brothers, Carl Norcross, Petoskey, Mich., and Ken Norcross, St. Johns, Mich.; six sisters, Flora Ostrander, Lake View, Mich., Phyllis Landsberg, Bates City, Diane Hickman, Susan Cranston, Janet Wilson, all of Traverse City, Mich., and Beverly Tuller, Rapid City, Mich.; and a grandson, Keith.

Services were today at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. Burial was in the Odessa cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Eleanor A. Stowell Memorial Fund, Odessa.

MARQUIS W. BROWN

Marquis W. Brown, 77, Shawnee, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Brown was born Dec. 26, 1920, in LaCygne, Kan. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of William Jewell College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

His survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lonnie L. Crim Brown; a son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Carol Brown; a sister, Alma Garoutte, Palm City, Fla.; two grandsons, Randy and Carl; and one great-grandson, Ryan.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1915 N. Liberty St. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Lancaster cemetery, LaCygne. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Amos Family Chapel, Shawnee. The family suggests contributions to Calvary Baptist Church, 1915 N. Liberty, Independence, Mo. 64050, Blue Valley Baptist Church, 8925 W. 151st St., Overland Park, Kan. 66221, or the Olathe Hospice, 20375 W. 151st St., Suite 405, Olathe, Kan. 66061.

MONTY M. BUSH

Monty Myrth Bush, 74, Kansas City, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at the Veteran`s Administration Medical Center in Kansas City.

Mr. Bush was born July 1, 1923, in Worland, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City since 1953. He was a heavy equipment operator before he retired. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion.

His survivors include his wife, Julia Bush of the home; seven daughters and five sons-in-law, Marie and Robert Simpson, Neeah, Wis., Diana and Clayton Tippins, Florida, Pamela and Donald Gibson, Kansas City, Debbie and Rick Hunsaker, Hamilton, Mo., Faye and Dan Hunsucker, Independence, Paula Hockensmith, Grandview, and Donna Carter, Kansas City; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Wright, Independence, and Jerry Wright, Merriam, Kan.; his mother, Pearl Fultz, Osawatomie, Kan.; two brothers, Jim Bush, Independence, and Leon Bush, Worland, Mo.; four sisters, Vina Mae Cox, Osawatomie, Ardell Hearn, Parker, Ariz., Mavis Kennedy, Williamsburg, Kan., and Marjorie Hobbs, Montrose, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

KENNETH C. DUDLEY

Kenneth C. Dudley, 82, Independence, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at The Groves.

Mr. Dudley was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Calwood, Mo., and grew up in Auxvasse, Mo. He graduated from Auxvasse High School and attended Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. From 1937 to 1943, he managed Kroger food stores in St. James, Mo., and in other Missouri towns. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church, and attended Birchwood Baptist Church. He was interested in steam and gas powered engines, including locomotives and antique cars.

His survivors include his wife of 37 years, Gladys Eileen Dudley of the home; a daughter, Sharon K. Swaney, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a sister, Doris Bunch, Lee`s Summit; two grandchildren, Evan and Robyn Swaney; eight nieces and nephews.

Services were today at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial was in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

BETTY J. ERBE

Betty Jean Erbe, 77, Lee`s Summit, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Erbe was born Jan. 13, 1921, in Tulsa, Okla., and had lived in Liberal, Kan., before moving to this area in 1986. She was an office manager for Liberal School District 480 from 1959 to 1975, and was a member of the Liberal Episcopal Church. She was very artistic in rug weaving and tapestries, and had been recognized for her artistic abilities at several art shows in Independence.

Her survivors include her husband, Charles B. "Chuck" Erbe of the home; a daughter, Candace E. Carlisle, Lee`s Summit; a son, Charles B. Erbe Jr., East Lansing, Mich.; and two grandchildren, James C. Carlisle and John C. Carlisle, both of Lee`s Summit.

Private graveside services will be at the Marionville (Mo.) cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer`s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

WILMA GREGG

Wilma Gregg, 81, Aurora, Colo., formerly of this area, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at the Life Care Center in Aurora.

Mrs. Gregg was born April 18, 1917, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian church. She received a bachelor`s degree in education from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, and a master`s degree in education from the University of Missouri, and was a member of the American Association of University Women. Her husband, Robert Quinley Gregg, died Jan. 23, 1995.

Her survivors include three sons, James Gregg and Jim Gregg, both of Aurora, and Wallas Gregg, Whitehouse, Texas; two daughters, Susan Stevens, Temple, Texas, and Louise Williams, Los Alamos, N.M.; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

VICTORIA C. MARULLO

Victoria Carolyn Marullo, 46, Independence, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Marullo was born June 4, 1952, in Camp Roberts, Calif., and lived in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to this area in 1979. She received a bachelor`s degree in education from the University of Texas, and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence.

Her survivors include her husband, Lawrence M. Marullo, and two daughters, Vanessa Carolyn Marullo and Suzanna Kathryn Marullo, all of the home; her mother and stepfather, Norris and Carolyn Yates, San Antonio; her father, Roy A. Downey, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Rebecca Elizabeth Bird, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a half sister, Laura Downey, Durango, Colo.; a brother, William Spencer Yates, San Antonio; and her grandmothers, Thelma Rogers-Cook, Independence, and Maggie Curry Yates, San Antonio.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, and 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio. Entombment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, San Antonio. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Speaks, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.
