FLOYD L. MATHEWS

Floyd L. Mathews, 53, Independence, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Mathews was born June 16, 1944, in Kansas City.

His survivors include three sisters, Mary Rogers, Kansas City, Cappy Manley, Blue Springs, and Barbara Cook, Las Vegas, Nev.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

HELEN M. WALKER

Helen M. Walker, 61, Independence, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Walker was born Aug. 5, 1936, in Olney, Pa. She had worked as a bookkeeper for P.H. Sales in Edison, N.J. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence and was an honorary member of the Ladies of the Scottish Rite in Kansas City.

Her survivors include her husband of 33 years, Howard Wayne Walker of the home; a daughter, Cynthia "Cindi" Donohue, and her mother, Helen L. Coleman, both of Independence; and three grandchildren, Crystal, Kelli and Ashley Donohue, all of Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

CLIFFORD L. COBB

Clifford Lee Cobb, 74, Odessa, formerly of Grain Valley, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Cobb was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Mayview, Mo., and had lived in Grain Valley before moving to Odessa nine months ago. He worked for General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant, Kansas City, for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Mount Hope Masonic Lodge, Odessa; American Legion Post 268, Odessa; and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 25th Division, 89th Field Artillery Battalion, with the rank of Tech. 5. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grain Valley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Gail Cobb in 1961.

His survivors include his wife, Marjorie Florene Cobb of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee Edward and Margaret Elaine Cobb, Odessa; a brother, Hubert Allen Cobb, Ansonia, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Michelle Leigh Cobb, Odessa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Husman-Sparks-McDowell Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

RUTH F. STUBBLEFIELD

Ruth Florence Stubblefield, 90, Overland Park, Kan., died Friday, June 19, 1998, in Villa St. Joseph in Overland Park.

Mrs. Stubblefield was born July 24, 1907, in Barry County, Mo., and had lived in Cassville, Exeter, Kansas City and Springfield, all in Missouri. Following her retirement she lived in Shell Knob and Ozark Methodist Manor, Marionville, Mo., before moving to Overland Park. She was a graduate of Monett (Mo.) High School and Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. She taught school for several years. She had been employed as supervisor for Greene County Welfare office until retirement. She had been active in the Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, Rebekah Lodge, Silver Leaf Club, Garden Club and Missouri Association of Social Welfare. She was a member of Presbyterian Church of Stanley, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earle Stubblefield on Jan. 31, 1995.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Nancy Stubblefield, Blue Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Robert Bare, Overland Park; five grandchildren, Michael Bare, Mark Bare, Ross Stubblefield, Amy Sell and Susan Pankey; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew Pankey, Alexander Stubblefield and George Thomas Sell.

Services were Sunday at the Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial was in Maplewood cemetery, Exeter.

VELMA A. BAKER

Velma Agnes Baker, 83, Independence, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mrs. Baker was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Effingham, Kan., and lived in Kansas City most of her life before moving to Independence 14 years ago. Her husband, Joseph L. Baker, died in 1993.

Her survivors include one daughter, Patty Jo Howard, and one grandson.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

FLOYD E. DICKERSON

Floyd Eugene Dickerson, 73, Independence, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Park Lane Medical Center.

Mr. Dickerson was born July 29, 1924, in Roodhouse, Ill. He was a 50-year member of Plumbers Union Local 8, and a longtime member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette J. Dickerson, and a son, Bradley A. Dickerson.

His survivors include one son, Donald E. Dickerson, and two daughters, Patricia D. Love and Debra S. Dickerson, all of Independence; five grandchildren, Jason P. Love, Kelly P. Cypret, Kris E. Dickerson, Albert Russell McClure III and Marlaine S. Dickerson; and one great-grandchild, Tyler Love.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Moriah South cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheil Colonial Funeral Home, Raytown.

ROBERT S. GROVE

Robert Stanley Grove, 83, Independence, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mr. Grove was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong Independence resident. He was a farmer/carpenter and had worked for Folbert. He was a member of the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church.

His survivors include three sons, Robert K. Grove, Grandview, and William S. Grove and Richard L. Grove, both of Independence; one sister, Margaret Butcher, Independence; one brother, James Grove, Canyon Lake, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

ALPHA G. SANDERS

Alpha Glenn Sanders, 86, Independence, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Pleasant Hill (Mo.) Health Care.

Mrs. Sanders was born Oct. 11, 1911. She was a homemaker and a member of Rockwood Baptist Church.

Her survivors include one son, Jerry Sanders, Pittsfield, N.H.; one sister, Bernice Gosney, Pleasant Hill; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer`s or Diabetes associations or the American Cancer Society.

KENNETH D. ANDERSON

Kenneth Duane Anderson, 71, Independence, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Mr. Anderson was born March 6, 1927, in Kansas City, and had lived in Independence for the past 20 years. He was a shop manager for Yellow Freight Truckline. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

His survivors include a son, Jeffery D. Anderson, Independence; three daughters, Lisa J. Anderson, Austin, Texas, Kendra D. Minnick, Rayville, Mo., and Laura L. Mineo, Independence; his mother, Viola M. McGovney, Oak Grove; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Newcomer`s Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.

THOMAS F. BOUTROSS

Thomas F. Boutross, 69, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in Kansas City.

Mr. Boutross graduated with a bachelor`s degree in philosophy from Bonaventure University in New York. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He then attended the University of Southern California School of Cinema working toward his master`s degree in communications. He was a member of the Director`s Guild of America and the Film Editors Guild. He worked on Disney`s wildlife shows on the Wonderful World of Color and Hanna-Barbara`s Banana Splits.

His survivors include his three brothers, George Boutross, Oak Grove, John Boutross, Independence, and Pete Boutross, Comanche, Texas; three sisters, Rosebud Welker, Colorado Springs, Colo., Lucille Bergin and Agnes Walters, both of Independence; and many other relatives.

Visitation and rosary were today at St. Ann`s Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann`s Catholic Church, 10109 E. Lexington, Independence. Internment will be in St. Mary`s Catholic cemetery.

EVA G. HOPKINS

Eva Grace Hopkins, 71, Wellington, Mo., died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at the home of her son in Wellington.

Mrs. Hopkins was born April 13, 1927, in Purvis, Mo., and had lived in Wellington for the past 47 years. She had worked as a machine operator at S&K Industries, Lexington, Mo. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Hopkins on Jan. 11, 1977.

Her survivors include three sons, Randy E. Hopkins, Independence, Ray Hopkins, Wellington, and Aubrey E. Hopkins Jr., Linn Creek, Mo.; a daughter, Laura Mullins, Odessa; three brothers, William F. Fields, Kenneth E. Fields and Henry L. Fields, all of Versailles, Mo.; 29 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Snow Funeral Home, Wellington. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Conway cemetery, Osage Beach, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the Snow Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

FLORENCE "FLO" I. KING

Forence "Flo" I. King, 78, Eastgate Village, Peculiar, Mo., died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Mrs. King was born April 23, 1920, in Kansas City. She worked for many years for Waids and Hoopers Cafe and later worked for Electronic Business Equipment and Danka Industries, retiring from Danka Industries in 1990 after 12 years of service. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 18. She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Her survivors include a daughter, Judy Surls, Peculiar, Mo.; a son, James F. Anthony, Yuma, Ariz.; a brother, Bruce R. Copenhaver, Grain Valley; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

JACK C. HEFTER

Jack C. Hefter, 92, Independence, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Hefter was born April 17, 1906, in Mill Valley, San Francisco, Calif., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He worked for Armco Steel for 35 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence, where he served as usher for many years, and also a member of the DeMolay. His wife, Dorothy L. Hefter, died in 1995.

His survivors include two sons, Bill Hefter, Independence, and Jack Hefter Jr., Stevensville, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

LETA P. LARSEN

Leta P. Larsen, 52, Independence, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Larsen was born Sept. 30, 1945, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., moving to this area in 1970. She worked for the federal government for 18 years, five with the Internal Revenue Service, and 13 for the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of Calvary Sounds Church, where she served as a youth leader for several years.

Her survivors include her husband of 33 years, Ed Larsen of the home; two sons, Edward Sean Larsen and Daniel Shane Larsen, both of Independence; two daughters, LeAnn Funk, Milo, Mo., and DaLeta McClain, Grain Valley; her mother, Leona Lyle, El Dorado Springs; two brothers, Bill Brower, El Dorado Springs, and Rupard "Art" Brower, Oceanside, Calif.; two sisters, Jerri Ellfrits, El Dorado Springs, and Linda Dines, Appleton City, Mo.; maternal grandmother, Velma Simpson, El Dorado Springs; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the El Dorado Springs Nazarene Church. Burial will be in El Dorado Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the New Salem Funeral Home in Independence.

BILLIE D. ROBINETT

Billie Daniel Robinett of Osburn, Idaho, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Osburn.

Mr. Robinett was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Jackson County, and lived in Independence before moving to Osburn in 1954. He was a miner for the Bunker Hill Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1981, and was a member of the Bunker Hill 20 Year Club. Earlier, he worked for the Sunshine Mining Co., and was a Maritime veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Robinett.

His survivors include his wife, Roberta L. Osburn Robinett of the home; six sons, Christopher Robinett, San Antonio, Texas, Noel Robinett and Skip Robinett, both of Pinehurst, Idaho, Vince Robinett, Lawton, Okla., Walt Robinett, Coeur d`Alene, Idaho, and Billie E. Robinett, Moon Gulch, Kellogg, Idaho; three daughters, Randy Lee Evans, Smelterville, Idaho, Debra Watson, New Port, Ore., and Charla Slimmer, Alvarado, Texas; two brothers, Freddie L. Robinett, Portland, Ore., and Roy Lee Robinett, Washington; a sister, Dorothy Gilispie, Independence; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Washington cemetery.

RICHARD W. "RICK" ROLLET

Richard William "Rick" Rollet, 30, Oak Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Mo.

Mr. Rollet was born Feb. 17, 1968, in Richmond, Mo., and lived in the Wellington, Mo., area before moving to Oak Grove seven years ago. He was a school bus driver for Ryder Student Transportation in Oak Grove and Odessa. He was a 1986 graduate of Wellington High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.

His survivors include his wife, Lori Rollet, two sons, Allen and Christopher Rollet, and three daughters, Elizabeth, Hannah and Savannah Rollet, all of the home; his mother, Iris Rollet, Wellington; two brothers, Roger Bushell, Wellington, and Randy Rollet, Cole Camp, Mo.; four sisters, Rhonda Stoddard, Sugar Creek, Raylene Bushell, Lexington, Mo., Rose Mansell, Corder, Mo., and Robyn Butler, Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Wellington City cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.
