JAMES A. YOUNG SR.

James Albert Young Sr., 78, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Young was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Finey, Mo., and had lived near Clinton before moving to Independence in 1964. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Union UAW Local 93, Windsor Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Ararat Shrine. He had worked for General Motors, Leeds Plant, for more than 20 years before retiring in 1984. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, James Richard Young and Donnie Dean Hudson.

His survivors include his wife, Gladys Young of the home; a son, James Young Jr., Blue Springs; two daughters, Judy Hudson, Kayenta, Ariz., and Sharon Church, Clinton, Mo.; two sisters, Cleo Lutes, Blue Springs, and Peggy Smith, Independence; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Masonic graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Englewood cemetery, Clinton. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association.

FRED J. EBERT

Fred J. Ebert, 79, Blue Springs, died Saturday, June 28, 1997.

Mr. Ebert was born May 5, 1918, in Loose Creek, Mo. He was a retired bus driver for the Area Transportation Authority, a veteran of World War II and a former member of St. Michael`s parish. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Ebert, and a son, William J. Ebert.

His survivors include six children, Richard Ebert and Carol Ebert, both of Independence, Nancy Hutchison and John H. Ebert, both of Blue Springs, Marilyn Moore, Bates City, and Charles L. Ebert, Oak Grove; one sister, Hilda Sharp, Montrose, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St.John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Charter Funerals/Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City.

WILLIAM W. FAVROW SR.

William W. Favrow Sr., 78, Kansas City, Kan., died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Mr. Favrow was born in Sayre, Okla., and had lived most of his life in the Kansas City, Kan., area. He worked for Armco Steel Inc. for 31 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Walker.

His survivors include his wife, Daisy "Holladay" Favrow of the home; a son, William Favrow Jr., Independence; a sister, Ruby Quinn, Bolivar, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Maple Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Maple Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the chapel.

FRANK G. HEAVNER SR.

Frank G. Heavner Sr., 64, Independence, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at his home. Mr. Heavner was born April 5, 1933, in Sheldon, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area most of his life. He was retired from the Claycomo Ford Plant and was a Navy veteran.

His survivors include one son, Frank G. Heavner Jr., Kearney, Mo.; one daughter, Cheryl Mitchum, Independence; two brothers, Harrol Heavner, Raytown, and Bobby Heavner, Rockville, Mo.; one sister, Ellen Engle, Kingston, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Graveside services will at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Leavenworth National cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Northland Hospice.

JAMES A. HOOD

James Arthur "Sneezy" Hood, 80, Independence, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Hood was born July 4, 1916, in Bolivar, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He worked for the Phillips Petroleum Co. for 18 years, retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired from the Navy. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000, American Legion Post 21 and Fraternal Order of Eagles 385.

His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hood of the home; two sons, James Michael Hood, Lone Jack, Mo., and Paul E. Hood, Independence; two daughters, Dorothy Celso, Independence, and Robin Nolen, Lowry City, Mo.; one sister, Ida Cameron, Santa Rosa, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army.

CLEO C. LAME

Cleo C. Lame, 84, Trenton, Mo., died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at the Wright Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Lame was born Aug. 10, 1912, near Spickard, Mo., and lived Livingston and Grundy counties. He worked for Penney and Merservey, McCarty Truck Lines andTrenton Foods before retiring in 1977. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Trenton.

His survivors include his wife, Beulah Lame of the home; one daughter, Barbara Perry, Independence; two sons, Ronald Lame, Chillicothe, Mo., and Richard Lame, Trenton; two sisters, Loriene Johnson, Trenton, and Grace Davidson, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Trenton. The family suggests contributions to the Dream Factory in Mr. Lame`s memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitaker-Eads Funeral Homes Inc., Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton.

NAOMI S. NEWTON

Naomi Seth Newton, 77, Independence, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Newton was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Pocahontas, Iowa, and had lived in Independence for more than 45 years. She was a bank teller for the Commerce Trust Co. in Kansas City, retiring in 1960. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, the VIP Ararat Shrine Club, and a past president of the Ararat Needle Guild and the Chanterettes. She was a 25-year member of Mount Washington Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 423.

Her survivors include her husband, Bernard A. Newton of the home; two sisters-in-law, Opal Young, Coldwater, Mich., and Audrey Ohl, Allen Park, Mich.; several nieces and cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel.The family suggests contributions to the elevator fund at the church.

LUCILLE L. SHAW

Lucille L. Shaw, 87, Independence, died Friday, June 27, 1997, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mrs. Shaw was born March 31, 1910, in Gilbertsville, Ky., and had lived in Independence for nine years. She had been a waitress and cafe owner and was a member of the Mount Washington United Methodist Church.

Her survivors include one son, Ed Collie, Colorado; one daughter, Freda Cowen, Independence; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services were today at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Graveside services will be Wednesday at Stice cemetery, Tatumsville, Ky. The family suggests contributions to the memorial fund at the church.

CARL M. BAIRD

Carl Matthew Baird, 87, Independence, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Baird was born July 4, 1909, in Independence. He was a truck driver for Remington Arms for 20 years and retired in 1973. He was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church of Independence and a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 385. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pansy Faye Baird, in 1984.

His survivors include two sons, David W. Baird, Flemington, Mo., and Paul J. Baird, Kansas City; one brother, Kenneth S. Baird, Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. Mary`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Lee`s Summit cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, at the D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. A rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m., Sunday. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mary`s Catholic Church of Independence.

MARY H. CROWDER

Mary Helen Crowder, 51, Independence, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Crowder was an electrical mechanical inspector for Allied Signal for more than 16 years.

Her survivors include her husband of 35 years, Richard R. Crowder, of the home; one daughter, Tracy Christie, Independence; two grandchildren, Whitney Robinson and Jacob Christie; her mother, Pauline Gregory, Independence; two sisters, Nadine Pace, Belton, Mo., and Janice Schmidt, Westminster, Colo.; and one brother, David Gregory, Independence.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, at Newcomer`s Floral Hills Chapel. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice of the Northland.

N. JEAN SEARS

N. Jean Sears, 68, Bates City, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, at her home.

Ms. Sears was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Boynton, Mo.

Her survivors include two brothers, Marvin P. Sears, Bates City, and Richard D. Sears, Berea, Ky.

Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

WILMA R. TOOMBS

Wilma B. Toombs, 90, Bethany, Mo., died Thursday, June 26, 1997, in Blue Spring.

Mrs. Toombs was born Aug. 2, 1906, in Albany, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Toombs. Her survivors include two children, Martha Hendren, Independence, and Jack Toombs, St. Charles, Mo; 15 grandchildren, including Jo Beth Herrick and Becky Dudley of Independence; 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at the Roberson-Polley Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial will be in Foster cemetery in New Hampton, Mo. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

LESLIE E. WHITE

Leslie E. White, 80, Pleasanton, Calif., died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at his home.

Mr. White was a retired auto executive and a real estate broker. He was a longtime resident of Kansas City. He lived in Tucson, Ariz., and Rochester, Mich., until 1987, when he moved to Pleasanton, Calif.

His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marjorie; one daughter, Janice Pegler, Pleasanton, Calif.; four grandchildren, Michael, James, Jayson, and Melinda; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Mount Washington cemetery. A reception will follow at the Parkway Towers, 4545 Wornall Road, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to your favorite charity.

HAZEL M. BRANT

Hazel Marie "Sue" Brant, 68, Warrensburg, Mo., died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital, Kansas City. Mrs. Brant was born May 23, 1929, on a farm south of Warrensburg. She was employed by Oliver Oil Co. and assisted in running Airway Service Station. She attended Chilhowee (Mo.) High School. Her husband, Gale Edward Brant, preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1994. She was a charter member of the Centerview First Baptist Church.

Her survivors include a daughter, Shirley Storck, Blue Springs; a son, Donnie Brant, Centerview, Mo.; a brother, Melbourne Easterwood, Raytown; four grandchildren, Jason and Ryan Brant, and Stephanie and Teri Storck; and a great-grandchild, Tyler Storck.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Williams Funeral Chapel, Warrensburg. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Gale & Sue Brant Memorial Scholarship Fund.
