ROSS W. BAKER

Ross Willis Baker of Independence died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Baker was born in Caraway, Ark., and was a lifelong area resident. He attended North Kansas City High School. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Baker, also known as Carol Dawn.

His survivors include his father, Irston Baker, also known as Stony Dawn, of the home; one daughter, Crystal Zambowski, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three brothers, Chester Baker, Benny Baker and Clay Baker, all of Independence; three sisters, Jaslynne Baker, Independence, Ann Grubbs, Moran, Kan., and Linda Baker, Plainville, Conn.; three grandchildren; and 18 nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Friday at the Earp & Sons Chapel, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions, in his memory, to your favorite charity.

DONALD F. BEVERSTOCK

Donald F. Beverstock, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Beverstock was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Lamoni, Iowa, and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was a maintenance mechanic for Independence Power & Light for more than 20 years, retiring in 1978, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union. Earlier he was a fireman for the city of Independence for five years. He was also a member of the Eden Heights RLDS congregation and an Army Air Corps veteran.

His survivors include his wife, Renee V. Beverstock of the home; one son, Rod Beverstock, Independence; one daughter, Toni George, Kimberling City, Mo.; one sister, Peam Johnston, Independence; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Entombment will be in the Mound Grove cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

KATHRYN M. HANDS

Kathryn M. Hands, 94, Raytown, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at the Edgewood Manor in Raytown.

Mrs. Hands was born March 20, 1904, in The Plains, Ohio, and

lived in Willoughby, Ohio, most of her life, moving to this area 34 years ago. She was a member of the Bannister Ridge RLDS congregation. Her husband, Floris Hands, died in 1996.

Her survivors include one daughter, Lorna Conoley, Raytown; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

LOETA L. KEISTER

Loeta Lillian Keister, 85, Lee`s Summit, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit.

Mrs. Keister was born Feb. 6, 1913, in Macon, Mo., and lived in Hannibal and Shelbyville in Missouri and Blue Springs before moving to Lee`s Summit. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbina, Mo. Her husband, Alvin L. Keister Sr., died Sept. 1, 1996.

Her survivors include two sons, Jerry Keister, Blue Springs, and Alvin L. Keister Jr., New York City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel.

ALICE F. WADE

Alice Frances Wade, 79, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Wade was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Sugar Creek, and was a lifelong Sugar Creek, Independence and Blue Springs resident. She had been active in the Young Matrons, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mary Paxton Reading group. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs.

Her survivors include her husband, Earl R. Wade, two sons, Charles Wade and David Wade; two sisters; a brother; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

ANNABELLE COOK

Annabelle Cook, 82, Leesville, La., died Monday, July 13, 1998, in Sunshine Valley.

Mrs. Cook was born March 31, 1916, in Jasper, Ark., and had lived in Sunshine Valley in the early 1940s, then moving to St. Helens, Ore., before moving to Leesville. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Leslie Cook on Feb. 10, 1983.

Her survivors include three sons, James Cook, Leesville, La., Richard Cook, Okmulgee, Okla., and Arthur Cook, Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Loretta Reynolds, Moline, Ill., and Eileen Payne, Oak Grove; a sister, Florence Crowley, Gresham, Ore.; a brother, George Peake, Las Vegas; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

HILDA N. SEXTON

Hilda Nadine Sexton, 83, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Blue Springs Care Center.

Services were today at Charter Funerals Blue Ridge Chapel, 5000 Blue Ridge Cutoff, Kansas City. Burial was in Lee`s Summit cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge 385, 124 S. Main, Independence, Mo. 64050.

LEO B. SMITH

Leo Benton Smith, 57, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 7, 1941, in Dadeville, Mo. He was employed by Pro Source District Service, Lenexa, Kan. He was a member of the Blue Springs Assembly of God.

His survivors include his wife, Vivian Smith of the home; three sons, Jeff Sargent and Russell Sargent, both of Blue Springs, and Bruce Smith, Kansas City; a daughter, Karel Batres, Kansas City; his mother, Lois Smith, Springfield, Mo.; three brothers, Allan Smith, Springfield, Harold Smith, Republic, Mo., and Warren Lee Smith, Stafford, Mo.; three sisters, Janice Barnett, Kansas City, Janet Lange, Blue Springs, and Judy Wells, Springfield; and seven grandchildren, Jessica Batres, Lauren Batres, Brandon Sargent, Hunter Sargent, Katelyn Sargent, Kyle Sargent, and Bruce Smith Jr.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Blue Springs Assembly of God. Burial will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the church.

BLAINE G. STONER

Blaine Gailard Stoner, 83, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Stoner was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Colorado and had lived in the Independence area most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a past commander and member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 10. He was also an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000 and its Last Man Club, a member of American Legion Post 21, and a life member of the National Order of Trench Rats, Dugout 44.

His survivors include a brother, Harley Stoner, Arlington, Texas; a sister, Rozella Breshears, Adrian, Mo.; and several nephews and nieces, including Larry Stoner, Reginald Stoner and Kenneth Stoner, all of Independence, Alan Breshears, Adrian, and Grace Wanbaugh, Kansas City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Hospice Care of Mid-America, 3435 Broadway, Suite 104, Kansas City, Mo. 64111.

DECIUS W. TAUL

Decius Wiley Taul, 87, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Taul was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Lansford, N.D., and had lived in Independence since 1930. He was retired from Midwest Mechanical Contractors. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Amanda Taul of the home; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 9 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to St. Lukes United Church of Christ.

LETHA J. WOODS

Letha Jane Woods, 97, Odessa, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at New Haven Nursing Home, Odessa.

Mrs. Woods was born Aug. 8, 1901, in Missouri City, Mo., and had lived in the Independence/Blue Springs area for 67 years before moving to Odessa a few years ago. She was a homemaker. She loved to piece quilts and crochet. She was an active member of Anchor Point Baptist Church, Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Fred Woods, and two children, E.J. Woods and Elmo Woods.

Her survivors include a son, Ernest D. Woods, Buckner; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, 300 Adams, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Anchor Point Baptist Church, 25501 East Bundschu Road, Independence, Mo. 64056.

LAWRENCE S. BISHOFF

Lawrence S. Bishoff, 84, Raymore, Mo., died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Bishoff was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Independence and lived there for 62 years. He moved to Raymore in 1983. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma.

His survivors include three children, Allen Bishoff, Eagan, Minn., Janice Giachino, Poulsbo, Wash., and Carol Howery, Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Monday, at Cullen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Stockton cemetery.

ANNA B. BODKIN

Anna Belle Bodkin, 96, Warsaw, Mo., died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Golden Valley Hospital.

Mrs. Bodkin was born in Marshall, Mo. She retired in 1967 with 16 years of service as a cosmetics representative for Katz Drug Store. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orace "Jack" Bodkin in 1976.

Her survivors include a son, James Virgil Rogers, Freeman, Mo.; three daughters, Edith Miller, Warsaw, Polly Adams, Independence, and Evelyn Morton, Sibley; a sister, Alberta Williams, Independence; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Muehlbach Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

DAVID L. BOOKOUT

David Lynn Bookout, 34, Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Monday, April 13, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Bookout was born Jan. 14, 1964, in North Kansas City. He was a truck driver for many years.

His survivors include three daughters, Daelynn Renee Bookout and Brittany Rose Bookout, both of Independence, and Breeana Green, Blue Springs; his mother and step-father, Carol and Harry Willis, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; his father and step-mother, James and Janet Bookout, Milan, Mo.; maternal grandmother, Zelpha Cunningham, McAllen, Texas; two brothers, Mickeal Becker, Green Bay, Wis., and Jeffrey Bookout, Belton, Mo.; two sisters, JoDeana Houston, Columbia, Tenn., and Jo An Jeffers, Forest City, Mo.; two step-brothers, Charles Willis, Harrisonville, Mo, and Gene Downen, Milan, Mo.; three step-sisters, Gwen Jacos, Warrensburg, Mo., Susan Newill, Harrisonville, Mo, and Tammy Fielder, Kansas City.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Cullen Funeral Home. Burial was in Wills cemetery.

FELIX E. BUSSARD

Felix E. "Gene" Bussard, 80, Raytown, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mr. Bussard was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Mulholl, Okla. He was a machinist for Missouri Pacific Railroad for 30 years. He retired in 1982.

His survivors include Glenda Bussard, of the home; four sons, Ronald C. Bussard and James C. Bussard, both of Kansas City, Rudy T. Bussard, St. Charles, Ill., and Charles Joseph Bussard, Roseville, Calif.; three brothers, two sisters, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two of the grandchildren live in Blue Springs and two live in Independence.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Monday. Burial will be in Norfolk cemetery in Norfolk, Ark. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m., tonight, at the Carson Funeral Home Blue Ridge Chapel.

JOHN R. LEWIS

John Robert "Jack" Lewis, 70, Independence, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Lewis was born June 22, 1927, in Freeport, Ill., and lived most of his life in Independence. He was retired from the City of Independence Water Department. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Dororthy M. Lewis, of the home; three daughters, Joanne Means, Warrensburg, Mo., Cindy D. Lewis, Lee`s Summit, and Becky Lewis, Blue Springs; one sister, Ruth Milford, Lubbock, Texas; one grandson, Quentin Means, and one granddaughter, D.J. Lewis.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Mr. Lewis will lie in state from noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel. The family requests no flowers. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the R.A. Block Cancer Foundation, 4410 Main Street, Kansas City, Mo., 64111.
