JOHN W. LANE

John Wesley Lane, 86, Kansas City, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the Cedar Valley Health Care Center, Raytown.

Mr. Lane was born Aug. 4, 1912, in Tarkio, Mo. He was onwer/manager of Lane`s Standard Service Station for 50 years. He served in the Aleution Islands for four years.

His survivors include his wife, Jeanette Handley Lane of the home; and one sister, Ruby Johnston, Overland Park, Kan.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

RAYMOND C. LOHSANDT

Raymond Charles Lohsandt, 84, Wellington, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Lohsandt was born March 8, 1914, in Napoleon, Mo., and was a lifelong Wellington resident. He farmed all of his life, retiring in 1976, and was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Napoleon.

His survivors include one daughter, Janis Winkler, Independence; two sons, Richard Lohsandt and Allen Lohsandt, both of Wellington; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Snow Funeral Home, Wellington. The family suggests contributions to the cemetery fund or the Wellington Lions Club Scholarship Fund.

ELSIE M. RICHARDS

Elsie M. Richards, 86, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Richards was born Dec. 24, 1911, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and lived in Wyandotte, Mich., before moving to Independence in 1942. She was a bookkeeper for Midwest Properties for many years, retiring in 1991. She was a volunteer at Resthaven and Independence Regional, and a member of the RLDS Stone Church congregation.

Her survivors include five children, Lewis Richards and Gerald Richards, both of Independence, Roland Richards and Maxine Lorenze, both of Michigan, and Wilbert Richards, New Jersey; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Fund.

RUTH J. BARRETT

Ruth J. Barrett, 83, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Omaha, Neb.

Mrs. Barrett was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Marseilles, Ill., and had lived in Blue Springs for the past 21 years. She was a homemaker, and a member of Timothy Lutheran Church, the Dorcas Circle and Pairs and Spares at the church. Her husband, Charles P. Barrett Sr., died June 21, 1980.

Her survivors include one daughter, Anne L. Linn, Omaha; one son, Charles P. Barrett Jr., Long Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kristofer Barrett, and Michael, Jeffrey and Carole Linn; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Blue Springs Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

JAMES W. "J.B." BARTON

James W. "J.B." Barton, 63, Independence, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Barton was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Independence, and was a lifelong Independence resident. He was the owner/operator of J.B.'s Auto Parts in Independence from 1977 to 1994. He previously worked for many years for Jack Swall's Auto Parts in Independence. He was an Army veteran, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 3717.

His survivors include his wife, Barbara Barton of the home; two sons, James "Kurt" Barton, Clarinda, Iowa, and Lucas George Barton, Independence; one daughter, Melissa Clouse, Ohio City, Ohio; one brother, Gary J. Barton, Independence; two sisters, Toni Stephens, Colorado, and Janice Barton, Florida; and three grandchildren, Magen, Monica and Jesse Barton.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

SHAUGN MASSIE

Shaugn Massie, 34, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Mr. Massie was born Dec. 1, 1963, in Independence, and was a lifelong Independence resident. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.

His survivors include his wife, Carla Massie, and one daughter, Katlyn Mae Massie, both of the home; one son, Colten Shaugn Massie, Odessa; his father and stepmother, Dennis and Bonnie Massie, Osage Beach, Mo.; his mother and stepfather, Carroll and Gary Fisher, Wellsville, Kan.; one brother, Douglas Massie, Independence; three sisters, Michelle Hale, Wellsville, Heather Polarmo, Overland Park, Kan., and Gloeta Massie, Maryland; and his paternal grandmother, Alice Massie, Blue Springs.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

EMMETT J. JOHNSON

Emmett J. Johnson, 65, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Salina Regional Health Center.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Windsor, Mo. He was a driver for Greyhound Bus Lines for 31 years before he retired. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Zella Lou Johnson of the home; one daughter, Quintah Lou Mann, and one son, Terry Wayne Johnson, both of Independence; three grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.

Per his request, Mr. Johnson will be cremated with no services. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

SHAUGN MASSIE

Shaugn Massie, 34, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

JOAN A. BERGMANN

Joan A. Bergmann, 73, Lee's Summit, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Bergmann was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Syracuse, N.Y., before moving to Lee's Summit 12 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Bergmann in 1986.

Her survivors include a son, Bill Bergmann, Lee's Summit; a daughter, Doreen Bergmann, Brooklyn; a sister, Dorothy Gioggia, Tom's River, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Perkins, New York City; two grandchildren, Jean Homer and Bill Bergmann; and six great-grandchildren, Lance, Samantha, Jacqueline, William, Lucas and Courtney.

Services will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley; cremation. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

LYNDELL C. FULKERSON

Lyndell Clyde Fulkerson, of Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Fulkerson was born Aug. 3, 1937, in Sikeston, Mo. He was a retired Navy veteran, and a 30-year member of American Legion Post 499 in Blue Springs. He was also a member of 40/8 Voiture Trois Jackson County.

His survivors include his mother, Audrey Fulkerson, Henson, Kan.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kathy Lewis of Blue Springs.

Cremation. Military memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at American Legion Post 499 on South Missouri 7. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, with Veterans Field of Honor.

IRENE H. LOWRY

Irene H. Lowry, 81, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Lowry was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Worthington, Minn. She was a beautician, and attended Good Shepherd Christian Church. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Junction City, Kan., Wa Tan Ye, NARF, and Eastern Star Lodge Melita Chapter 116 in Junction City.

Her survivors include two sons, Charles Lowry, Wichita, Kan., and Craig Lowry, Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Janet Sawyer, Blue Springs; a sister, Vera Osberg, Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Sac City (Iowa) cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

THOMAS H. WILLEY

Thomas Harold Willey, 50, Blue Springs, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Miami County Medical Center, Paola, Kan.

Mr. Willey was born Nov. 3, 1947, in New Rockford, N.D., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a superintendent for Pearce Construction Co. He was a 1965 graduate of William Chrisman High School, and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War era. He was an avid fisherman, was active in Blue Springs Little League, and a member of the East Independence RLDS congregation.

His survivors include his wife, Susan Willey of the home; four children, Chad Willey, Adam Willey and Eric Willey, all of Blue Springs, and Kimberly Taylor, Kansas City, Kan.; his parents, Kenneth and Ava Willey, and a sister, Carolyn Barnhard, all of Independence; and two brothers, Richard Willey, Independence, and Steven Willey, Blue Springs.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family will have a private graveside service following the funeral. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 366, Jefferson City, Mo. 65102, the Humane Society or Powell Gardens.

GRACE E. KOGER

Grace E. Koger, 95, Kansas City, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at Truman Medical Center-East.

Mrs. Koger was born May 1, 1903, in Orrick, Mo., and lived in Orrick and Atherton before moving to Kansas City 50 years ago. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess E. Koger, and two sons, Elmer and Donald.

Her survivors include four sons, Albert Koger, Snowflake, Ariz., John J. Koger, Cameron, Mo., Ben Koger, Wetumka, Okla., and Emmit J. "Bruce" Koger, Sibley; five daughters, Pauline Lesley, Cabool, Mo., Mary L. Sloan, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Alice M. Miller and Karon K. Wolfe, both of Sibley, and Betty A. Kelley, Lathrop, Mo.; 41 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Cremation will follow the services. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to Children's Mercy Hospital.

KATHRYN MAY

Kathryn Ryan May, 76, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998.

Mrs. May was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Independence, and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a 1940 graduate of William Chrisman High School and attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her husband, Lawrence J. May, died in 1981.

Her survivors include her children, Michael Lawrence May, Patricia Elizabeth May, Laurie Anne Cremillion and Anthony David May; a daughter-in-law, Beth McCandless May; a son-in-law, Dennis Jude Gremillion; and three grandsons, Matthew Allan May, Dennis Lawrence Gremillion and Ryan Patrick May.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the St. Mary's section of Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The family suggests contributions to St. Mary's Parish library. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

JUANITA NEILL

Juanita McDowell Neill, 68, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Neill was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Osage Beach, Mo., and lived in Bolivar, Mo., before moving to Independence. She was a member of the Bolivar First Christian Church.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Blane and Terry Neill, Bolivar; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gloria Neill, Kansas City, and Brenda and Merle Hadlock, Grandview; a brother, Clyde Eli McDowell, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a sister, Betty Holt, Independence; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Jesse and Amanda.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Buckner Hill cemetery, Buckner. Friends may call from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner.

ETHEL M. PEED

Ethel M. Peed, 78, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at Ashton Court, Liberty, Mo.

Mrs. Peed was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Topeka, and had lived in Independence for the past 16 years. She was an inspector for the American Can Manufacturing Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1975.

Her survivors include two sons, Harlan Finn, Lee's Summit, and Edward Stephens, Colby, Kan.; a daughter, Pat Chaffee, Independence; two brothers, Joe Hargis and Tom Hargis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at New Salem Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Fund.
