JAMES H. ROBBINS JR.

James H. Robbins Jr., D.P.M., 55, Independence, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998.

Dr. Robbins was born April 8, 1943, in Alton, Ill., and moved to Independence in 1967. He graduated from the Illinois College of Podiatry in Chicago in 1967, and practiced podiatry after moving to Independence. He became a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1965, and had served as an elder since 1975. He had attended the Parkview RLDS congregation in Blue Springs since 1984.

His survivors include his wife, Lora Robbins, and one son, Matthew D. Robbins, both of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tamela J. Smith, Independence, and Atalie M. and Daniel G. Brown, Blue Springs; two brothers, Jay L. Robbins, Roxana, Ill., and Robert C. Wohlert, Kansas City; four sisters, Mary Ruyle, Alton, Ill., V. Sue Farache and Jami E. Headrick, both of St. Louis, and Mary Kay Dunham, Godfrey, Ill.; and two granddaughters, Ashley Marie and Sydney Christine Brown of Blue Springs.

Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at

the church, 801 S. 19th St., Blue Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Truman Heartland Community Foundation (Hospice Fund), 300 N. Osage, Independence, Mo. 64050, or to the assistance fund at the church.

JANICE E. ROSS

Janice Eulene Ross, 57, Kansas City, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Ross was born Nov. 19, 1940, in California and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a waitress most of her life for several area restaurants. She was a member of the Sheffield Family Life Center.

Her survivors include her husband, James Ross of the home; one daughter, Jeneane R. Mullins, North Kansas City; her mother, Wilma Eastep, and a sister, Vickie J. Richardson, both of Independence; four grandchildren; and 15 stepgrandchildren.

Services were today at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial was in Mount Washington cemetery.

RUTH G. SAVAGE

Ruth G. Savage, 78, Independence, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Savage was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Dix, Neb., and had lived in Independence since 1943. She was a member of The Church of Christ with The Elijah Message of Independence. She was also a member of the Mothers and Daughters of Zion. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James W. Savage in 1989.

Her survivors include five sons, Gerald L. Savage, Caledonia, Miss., James C. Savage, Grandview, Paul D. Savage and John E. Savage, both of Independence, and Timothy L. Savage, McKinney, Texas; three daughters, Lucille R. Savage, Holden, Mo., Laura J. O`Keefe, Delta, Colo., and Lola M. Brown, Dawn, Mo.; two brothers, Harlan Foskett, Lorraine, Kan., and Warren Foskett, Raymore, Mo.; a sister, Emma Brooks, Cedar Hill, Texas; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

WILLIAM F. SMITH

William F. Smith, 60, Kansas City, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 14, 1937, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a pipefitter for General Motors.

He had been a member since 1974 of Calvary Sounds Church, where he served as elder.

His survivors include his wife, Millie N. Smith of the home; two sons, Terry Michael Smith, Independence, and Shane Lee Maxwell, DeSoto, Kan.; a sister, Pearl Ann Pyclor, Lee`s Summit; two brothers, LeRoy Smith, Lee`s Summit, and Paul Smith, Smithville, Mo.; and four granddaughters, Jessica Smith, Kayla Smith, Shania Smith and Angel Smith.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

JAMES M. WATKINS

James Monroe Watkins, 83, Odessa, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Watkins was born June 8, 1914, in Decatur, Ala., and lived in Osceola, Ark., from 1917 until moving to Odessa in 1956. He was a custodian for the Higginsville State Rehabilitation Center in Higginsville, Mo., from 1975 until his retirement in 1983. Earlier he was a custodian for the Odessa Junior and Senior high schools, worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, was a construction laborer for Local 664 in Kansas City, and worked for Jungerman Farms in Mayview, Mo. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, and had been a deacon since 1957. His wife, Ella Gertrude Mosley Watkins, died Aug. 6, 1996.

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Frances Watkins, Odessa; one sister, Lucille Richmond, Harvey, Ill.; two granddaughters, Shea Watkins Williams and Salora Watkins of Odessa; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa.

NELLIE C. BLANKENSHIP

Nellie C. Blankenship, 85, Independence, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Blankenship was born March 3, 1914, in Weston, Mo. She was a member of Trinity Nazarene Church. She had worked in nursing for 12 years at The Independence Sanitarium. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Blankenship, in 1942.

Her survivors include four sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Blankenship and Don Blankenship, both of Independence, Jerry Blankenship, Gladstone, Mo., and Jack and Shirley Blankenship, Independence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sadie and Don Holman and Pearl and Jerry Wiser, both of Independence; four grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Coventry Estates Baptist Church. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. The family suggests contributions to Coventry Estates Baptist Church, 17133 East 39th St., Independence, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

DAISY F. FORREST

Daisy F. Forrest, 73, Hermitage, Mo., formerly of Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. John`s Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

Mrs. Forrest was born Sept. 2, 1924, and had lived in Hermitage for the past 10 years. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Forrest, died in 1986.

Her survivors include six sons, Leroy Stickley, Howard Stickley and David Stickley, all of Independence, Harry Stickley, Odessa, Orbie Stickley, Bolivar, Mo., and Tommy Forrest, Lake of the Ozarks; three daughters, Janette Tolen and Glenda Lile, both of Hermitage, and Janie Noland, Bolivar; 31 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

LELA E. JUSTUS

Lela E. Driskell Justus, 71, Independence, died Monday, June 8, 1998.

Mrs. Justus was born May 3, 1927, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a hairdresser from 1957 to 1997, and was the owner/operator of the Englewood Beauty Salon from 1964 to 1991. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000 Auxiliary.

Her survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ross and Marcia Justus, and Ralph Justus, all of Blue Springs; three brothers, Virgil Driskell and Joe Driskell, both of Independence, and David Driskell, Lee`s Summit; two sisters, Marie Purvis, Independence, and Bea Burnes, Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; and six grandchildren, Eric, Roger, Tamera, Christopher, Chad and Matthew.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

HERMAN C. NAUGLE

Herman C. Naugle, 69, Independence, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Naugle was born July 23, 1928, in Rockbridge, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 11 years. He was a self-employed tool and die maker before he retired. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ava, Mo., and served in the Army from 1946 to 1947.

His survivors include his wife, Sharlene F. Naugle, and two sons, Kevin I. Naugle and Kelly J. Naugle, all of Independence; a brother, O.W. Naugle, Mansfield, Mo.; a sister, Coeata Fry, Seymour, Mo.; and six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

LeROY STAPLETON

LeRoy Stapleton, 91, Windsor, Mo., died Monday, June 8, 1998, in Windsor.

Mr. Stapleton was born March 25, 1907, in Lexington, Mo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a checker for P.I.E. trucklines for 20 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Oak Grove Restoration Branch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Stapleton in 1984, and a son, Danny Ray Stapleton in 1998.

His survivors include a son, Robert Stapleton, Milan, Mich.; two daughters, Beverly Aker, Windsor, and Joyce Barton, Lee`s Summit; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

KENNETH C. DUDLEY

Kenneth C. Dudley, 82, Independence, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at The Groves.

Mr. Dudley was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Calwood, Mo., and grew up in Auxvasse, Mo. He graduated from Auxvasse High School and attended Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. From 1937 to 1943, he managed Kroger food stores in St. James, Mo., and in other Missouri towns. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church, and attended Birchwood Baptist Church. He was interested in steam and gas powered engines, including locomotives and antique cars.

His survivors include his wife of 37 years, Gladys Eileen Dudley of the home; a daughter, Sharon K. Swaney, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a sister, Doris Bunch, Lee`s Summit; two grandchildren, Evan and Robyn Swaney; a niece; and a nephew.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

DAISY F. FORREST

Daisy F. Forrest, 73, Hermitage, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. John`s Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

Larry G. Kisner, 45, Independence, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at St. Louis University Hospital.

Mr. Kisner was born Oct. 10, 1952, in Kansas City. He was a self-employed carpet layer.

His survivors include his wife, Anita Kisner; two sons, Dennis and Phillip Kisner; two daughters, Elena Hunsaker and Amy Kisner; his parents, Richard and Donna Kisner; two brothers, Michael and Gary Kisner; and six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City. Contributions are suggested to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

JAMES L. LUSSO

James L. Lusso, 54, Independence, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Lusso was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for the Agco Corp. (formerly Allis Chalmers) for 30 years, and was a member of Steel Workers Local 1958. He was an Army veteran.

His survivors include two daughters, Stacy Fonte, Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Jennifer Lusso, Independence; his father, Buster Lusso, and a brother, Gary Lusso, both of Independence; two sisters, Vicki Luttrell, Independence, and Nancy Morrison, Lake Waukomis in Platte County, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Cody and Dominic Fonte.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
