ROBERT L. STUMFOLL

Robert Lee Stumfoll, 67, Hickory, Mo., died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital, Kansas City.

Mr. Stumfoll was born June 20, 1929, in Pittsburg, Kan., and had lived most of his life in the Independence area. He was a truck driver for Bowen Construction of Independence before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a volunteer fireman for four years at Bentree Harbor, Warsaw, Mo. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 541.

His survivors include two sons, Robert Wayne Stumfoll, Blue Springs, and Edward Lee Stumfoll, Independence; five daughters, Diana Renee Teter, Independence, Melissa Kay Stumfoll and Norma Jean Stumfoll, both of Sugar Creek, and Denise and Pamela; his mother, Lena M. Stumfoll, Independence; two sisters, Betty L. Costigan, Blue Springs, and Norma J. Douglas, Independence; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday at the New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial was in New Salem cemetery, Independence.

WARNER G. STUMPENHAUS

Warner G. Stumpenhaus, 83, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Stumpenhaus was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Concordia, Mo. He lived in Independence since 1938. He was an assembler for General Motors for 28 years before retiring in 1975. He was a member of the UAW Local No. 93 and the VFW Post No. 1000. He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife Lucille Lundquist Stumpenhaus, of the home; two sons, Larry Stumpenhaus, Friendswood, Texas, and Gary Stumpenhaus, Independence; one brother, Stanley Stumpenhaus, Concordia, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Speaks Midtown Chapel; Burial is in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

NORMAN T. CARLSON JR.

Norman T. Carlson Jr., 76, Independence, died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Carlson was born May 9, 1921, in Michigan City, Ind., and had also lived in LaPorte, Ind., from 1952 to 1964 and Milwaukee, Wis., from 1964 to 1967 and the last 29 years in Independence. He had worked for Allis Chalmers in LaPorte, Milwaukee and Independence, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the McDonald Masonic Lodge 324, Independence, Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, and American Legion Post 21, Independence. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Gladys Grieger Carlson of the home; a daughter, Karin Timko, Independence; a son, Kurt Carlson, Oak Grove; and five grandchildren, Corey, Daniel, Vida, Samuel and Mary Carlson.

Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Odessa Restoration Branch, 2 mile north of Missouri 131. Burial will be in Michigan City, Ind. The family requests no flowers.

GLEN H. HELM SR.

Glen H. Helm Sr., 58, Gravios Mills, Mo., died Sunday, April 5, 1998, at University Hospital, Columbia, Mo.

Mr. Helm was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Kansas City. He was a cement finisher.

His survivors include a daughter, Sheri Lancaster, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; two sons, Glen Helm Jr., Lee`s Summit, and Roy Glen Helm, Marshall, Mo.; his mother, Mary Saunders, Roeland Park, Kan.; five brothers, John Helm and Donald Helm, both of Independence, Billy Helm and Roy Helm, both of Kansas City, and James Helm, Roeland Park; five sisters, Barbara Holtgrewe, Osceola, Mo., Kathryn Harmon and Judith Green, Blue Springs, Mary Banister, Kansas City, and Janice Klassen, Mountain Lake, Minn.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

EDNA M. VANBIBER

Edna Maxine Churning VanBiber, 77, Independence, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. VanBiber was born Nov. 11, 1921, near Fortescue, Mo., and

had lived in Wichita, Kan.; Chicago, Detroit and Kansas City. She attended the Fortescue branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a 1939 graduate of Fortescue High School, where she was active in the girls` glee club, softball and volleyball teams and was elected senior queen and class secretary. She attended what is now Northwest Missouri State University and then taught school in rural Holt County. She also worked as a secretary for the Boeing plant in Wichita. She was a member of the Walnut Park RLDS Church and then the Liberty Street RLDS Church. She and her husband then became charter members of the South Crysler RLDS Church. She helped to organize the Stake Women`s Department and also served as the first Santa Fe Stake Women`s leader. She was also active in Orioles, Orioles` Light of the Life Program, Cub and Boy Scouts, Zioneers, Zion`s League, Stake Older Youth, PTA, Graceland Mothers` Club, Young Matrons, Mothers in Israel, hospital auxiliary and Good Government League.

Her survivors include her husband of 54 years, James Taylor VanBiber; four sons, Dr. James T. VanBiber Jr., Independence, Dr. John C. VanBiber, Reno, Nev., Dr. Joseph R. VanBiber, Blue Springs, and Dr. Jeffrey M. VanBiber, Butler, Mo.; two daughters, Judith C. Meikle, Lee`s Summit, and Janet S. McCully, Independence; a brother, Fred Chuning, and two sisters, Edith Derr and Marjorie Spease, all of Independence; 13 grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Blue Springs Restoration Branch, 5555 Valley View Road, Blue Springs. Friends may call from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Gift of Hope Hospice Fund, 300 N. Osage, Independence, Mo. 64050.

NANCY R. ANDERSON

Nancy R. Anderson, 80, Independence, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit.

Mrs. Anderson was born April 9, 1918, in Camden, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1950. She was a gradaute of Richmond (Mo.) High School, and was a member of the Good Shepherd Christian Church in Blue Springs, where she had served as an elder and a volunteer secretary. She also was a volunteer library aide at Sycamore Hills Elementary School in Independence and served as an election judge in Jackson County. Before retiring in 1982, she was an administrative assistant for the Bayer Corporation`s Agricultural Division in Kansas City, where she had worked for 22 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert Finis Anderson.

Her survivors include three daughters, Nancy Ann Anderson, Nashville, Tenn., Victoria Jean Earl, Blue Springs, and Margaret Jo Blankers, Diamond Bar, Calif.; one brother; four sisters; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a fund for children`s education set aside to honor Mrs. Anderson, in care of the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home.

ELIZABETH J. "BETTY" BROWN

Elizabeth J. "Betty" Brown, 63, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City.

Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Marshall, Mo.

Her survivors include her husband, Philip J. Brown of the home; two sons, Philip A. Brown, Lee`s Summit, and Robert J. Brown, Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Denise Blessing, Indianapolis, and Paula Berberich, Overland Park; her father, Elwood Moore, Kansas City; two sisters, Mary Ann Easley, Baldwin City, Kan., and Sue Williams, Kansas City; one brother, Michael Moore, Independence; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery, Lee`s Summit. Friends may call from 6 to 7 tonight at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee`s Summit, where a rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m.

CLYDE D. GREENE SR.

Clyde D. Greene Sr., 70, Independence, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Greene was born March 22, 1928, in Valley Falls, Kan. He was a self-employed painter and was a member of the local Painters Union. He was formerly a police officer for Kansas City, Kan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iona G. Greene, and two sons.

His survivors include six daughters, Tina Blumenshine, Blue Springs, Dorothy Kay Campfield-Perez, Kansas City, Ida Mae Beachner, Osceola, Mo., Carolyn Sue Abernathy, Carrollton, Texas, Leata Nell Greene of the home, and Letta Bell DuBois, Litchfield, Mich.; one son, Clyde D. Greene Jr. of the home; three sisters, Kay Irene Barker, Midwest City, Okla., Velma Helmick, Topeka, and Wanda Kruger, Raytown; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

EVELYN L. BLY

Evelyn L. Bly, 78, Independence, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Mrs. Bly was born May 4, 1919, in Pamona, Calif., and had lived in Independence most of her life.

Her survivors include her husband, Ernest Bly; one daughter, Margie Craven; two sons, David Bly and Tim Bly; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

DORIS E. CAVEN

Doris E. Caven, 54, Independence, died Friday, April 10, 1998, in Lincoln, Mo.

Mrs. Caven was born Oct. 20, 1943, in Wheatland, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 50 years. She was self-employed with her own cleaning service.

Her survivors include her husband, Norman L. Caven, one son, Jeff Caven, and one daughter, Pam Caven, all of the home; her parents, John and Betty Wilson, Independence; and two brothers, Dennis Rogers, Olathe, Kan., and Daniel Wilson, Independence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Entombment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Norman Caven family, in care of Metcalf State Bank, 7840 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan., 66204.

VIRGIL FLOOD

Virgil Flood, 82, Independence, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Flood was born June 26, 1915, in Vendor, Ark., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Raytown Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Lea Flood of the home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

BEETY J. BEYERS

Betty J. Beyers, 70, Grain Valley, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, in Warsaw, Mo.

Mrs. Beyers was born Nov. 13, 1927 in Independence.

Her survivors include two daughters, Pam Johnson, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. and Barbara Coleman, Kansas City; one brother, Al Burkhardt, Texas; two grandsons and two granddaughters.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial is in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the chapel.

PATRCIA ANN NOVAK COOPER

Patricia Ann Novak Cooper, 56, Sugar Creek, died Thursday, May 14, 1998 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mrs. Cooper was born March 20, 1941 in Kansas City. She was a lifelong resident of Sugar Creek. She was a member of the St. Cyril Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie F. Cooper, in 1993. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.

Her survivors include her father, John Novak, Jr., Sugar Creek; one brother, Robert Novak, Sugar Creek; and six nieces and nephews.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial is in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

PEARL N. FOLSCROFT

Pearl N. Folscroft, 95, Independence, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Folscroft was born Feb. 8, 1903, in Oak Grove. She was a homemaker and a member of the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Odd Fellows and The Rebekah`s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis W. Folscroft in 1955.

Her survivors include two sons William "Bill" Folscroft, Kansas City, and Truman Folscroft, Independence; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Trading Post cemetery,

Trading Post, Kan. Friends may call from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

CLARA JANE JANES

Clara Jane Janes, 65, Bates City, died Friday, May 15, 1998 at Independence Medical Center.

Mrs. Janes lived in Independence from 1963 to 1964, the Kansas City area from 1965 to 1970, and the Buckner, Levasy, Atherton, Mo. area from 1955 to 1965. She was born Sept. 21, 1932 in Lexington, Mo. She was a homemaker.

Her survivors include her husband, Wilbur K. Janes, of the home; six sons, John K. Janes, Steven E. Janes, Joseph L. Janes, Delbert J. Janes, Richard R. Janes, all of Odessa and Terry L. Janes, Holden, Mo.; six daughters, Carol A. Barker, Merry F. Janes, Connie M. Janes, all of Odessa Elizabeth J. Curtner and Patty L. Bartlett, both of Butler, Mo., and Pamela L. Brown, Holden, Co.; three sisters, Irene Woodward, Liberty, Minnie Bok, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Mamie Tombleson, Lexington; 37 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God in Odessa. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
